    In this video I will show you a popular and fun method in order to grow an Avocado seed into a tree! You can get seeds from store bought avocados! In this video we cover how to extract the avocado seed, process it and then prepare to root. I have footage covering multiple months of growth so you can see it from start to finish. If you follow these how to steps, you will end up growing a nice avocado plant from seed.

    I know it’s kinda late to comment but pls read this. I found that if u just soak the seed in 2-3 minutes the skin will come easy of and you’ll be able just to use ur nails in then it takes about 30 sec to get the skin off

    I just peeled an Avocado for a salad and it was not only already cracked, but there was a small, half in root growing from the seed and into the flesh! I looked up this video and am following the rest of the instructions. I hope this plant is as strong as the seed! ;)

    Some avocado seeds take a little longer to germinate. I start mine in water just like you have but they don't always sprout in over a week or two. I had one that took about two months until it decided to crack open and send out a root so it was NOT dead but slower in germinating. So far it's doing well. I have it in a south-facing window as my florescent tube lighting fixtures are as high as they will get. NICE plants btw and I wouldn't mind getting the lights that you have. What wattage are they? Great presentation and thanks for sharing your plant knowledge! ;-)

    I started my avocado tree about a year ago now and its gotten pretty big. My only word of advice it that even though they need lots of sunlight, heat can be a bit harsh on the plant if they aren't given enough water. Since my tree has gotten bretty big i spray it every other day with the hose generously because the leaves started turning brown when i put it outside for the summer. also, the thing about the light is important too if you dont want it to lean awkwardly to the side. I had to keep rotating mine at the window sill during the winter because it leaned toward the light and now it has a funny looking, twisty bottom. I think it looks fine but if you're picky then maybe a light scource directly above is better. (also as a side note, lemon trees dont need as much water especially when they're small. i lost 6/8 lemon sprouts/saplings because i didnt know this)

    By accident, because I had left the avocado seed out too long before planting it, I found that the brown outer skin will dry up. That actually made it easier to peel off. However, I do not know if that compromises the seed, by letting it dry first (usually seeds can go through a dry period so it would seem like it's ok, but who knows about avocado). Perhaps there can be a test of dry and without dry period and see.
    The other thing I found out is that the dry skin helps the seed stay moist/not dry up too much. I had a set of seeds with and without the skin, all while still not being planted yet. The ones without the skin had become soft and felt compromised, but the ones that had dried up but still had the skin on, still felt like hard seeds just like when it was fresh.
    Anyway, after all this, i see now that there is a sticky post saying just to soak the seeds for a few minutes and the brown skin layer can come off easily. I guess that will make it moot to let the seed dry out for fast peeling, hehe!

      This may be late but I recommend putting them in a pot with soil and just forgetting about them before winter. However, it may not root so I recommend doing this a few times or with a bulb flower in the same pot just don’t forget to take the avocado out once it does sprout as they don’t do well afterwards in crowded pots. It’s worked for me so you can give it a try if you still want to grow them and even if the avocados don’t sprout you’ve still grown flowers! (Still water it don’t completely forget)

    • @TechplantChannel
      @TechplantChannel  6 років тому +1

      this is hard, the water should be about at the "base" of the sprout, but sometimes its a fine line because too much water can cause the sprout to be too wet and die. but too low and the exposed root dries out.

      probably 5 years, and thats if you are lucky. If you are serious about growing an avocado tree for fruit then its best to buy a good cultivar. becasue any seed you plant is playing the genetic lottery. When you buy them you are buying a clone of a known good fruiting tree.

Same with the other one.. I don´t know what is going on, I water them a lot, they are on window where they have a lot of sunlight - I thought that they were burnt so I put them on my shelve and nothing really happened, so I put them back on window.. don´t you know what is going on, or where is the problem? They were both really big, i had them for like 7 months and then suddenly this happened. I am really upset about it and I don´t know if I should start new ones. • @TechplantChannel

      This depends on what kind of plant you want. If you want a nice strong bushy one, then id suggest pinching back the plant. But if you want a tall more tree like plant then just leave it be. Its up to you, both are good ways to grow it!

      those were 30watt panels, Dont get confused by amazon posts they claim 200 watts and stuff but you gotta look at the true wattage they draw from the wall. Anyways. the square ones i have were about 30Watts. So here in USA we get charged 13cents for 1 kilowatt hour. so
      1000 / 30 = 33, so every 33 hours its on costs 13 cents. if its on for 12 hours a day 360 hours a month.
      360 / 33 = 11 (because 33 hours is our 1 kilowatt hour) So 11 x $00.13 === $1.14 per month!

    • @TechplantChannel
      @TechplantChannel  6 років тому

      3-5 Years sadly, if you want it faster you'd have to get a scion to graft onto your root base. its a nice ornamental plant though!

  • @jamesaust3272
    @jamesaust3272 6 років тому

    I've tried this with 4 different seeds, 2 have cracked open but never fully developed their roots... It's been over a month since I initially started them.

    • @TechplantChannel

      maybe they are too cold? sometimes if they are in a cold environment it keeps em from growing, Im planning on doing some experiments on how to root them easier and faster!

      Only flip it so the bump looking thing is in the water, ive had a seed start cracking from the top before, so the crack is not always an indication.

    • @TechplantChannel
      @TechplantChannel  4 роки тому

      All seeds have a possibility of not producing a fruiting plant, If you want to grow avocados for sure then it is best to purchase a plant with grafted branches so you can get the best fruit possible
