Hey! Wait a min!.... With the EPA and the age of EVs....You mean to tell me that Toyota didn't spend 100s of millions of dollars in r&d on a low volume car that in the end wouldn't make them any money!!???!!?!........... This is why that guy is not in charge of a multi-billion dollar corp.

lol - How much money would it have cost to take the Lexus badge off of an LC500 and change it to a Toyota badge ? That was my suggestion. 😄 I did mention that in the video.

It’s not the first time that manufacturers collaborate with each other, Audi and Porsche, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari are all doing this. Many great cars get to exist because of collaboration. Otherwise, we can only buy dumb SUVs now.
As for the Supra, I don’t believe Toyota currently has the resources and capacity to produce a better inline 6 than the B58. (Not saying they can’t, I mean realistically considering the time, money and resources that they can put into develop a new engine)
and BMW didn’t just give a random engine to the Supra, I don’t think I need to reiterate the good reputation of B58 in 2024.
You guys are privileged and spoiled by the fact that you can still buy a Supra.

The thing is, it’s a BMW engine, it doesn’t matter how good you think it is, Toyota guys don’t want it Period. We’ll see how reliable it is in about 8 to 10 years. Repair bills are going to be astronomical.
Furthermore, it doesn’t even have to be an in-line six engine to begin with. The GTR was in line 6 and now it’s a V6 turbo but people still love it because it’s a Nissan. You don’t see Nissan going and asking Porsche to make an engine for the GTR do you?
I think my plan would have been best if they simply re-badged an LC 500 and use that V8 engine. They could have just upgraded some of the internals to make it easier to modify.

I super hated it from the beginning especially because they said no manual, I hated it less when it finally got manual but not enough to ever buy one. I mean I don't have a problem with collaboration on chassis but that's where it should stop. If it had been the same chassis as it came out but sporting a Toyota driveline. Engine, Gearbox, loom ecu, switches, Gauges all thing electrical like if we knew the reliability was going to be there. This is coming from a guy that doesn't hate BMW I'd love to own an E36 M3 but if I purchased one I would know what I'm getting myself in for (unreliable electronics) you know Euro trash sh!t.

Exactly…. Another problem is: Repairs are unfamiliar and more difficult than a typical Toyota. Even Toyota dealership techs may not have expensive special tools required for some repairs.

It’s not the only way… They make the GR Corolla and an GR Yaris. Lexus RC Lexus IS and the LC500.
Also I think if they have to partner up, it’s better to partner with another Japanese company… Many Toyota fans don’t like the partnership with BMW because it’s a German company with questionable long term reliability.

@@MJ100k most of the reliability issue of bmw's are from old model or simply because of how they are driven ofc a sports car always pushed for no reason and not taken care of is gonna be unreliable those engines are complicated and they need way more oil change than your average car the way the germans make car is a really different mindset than japan

Toyota should’ve given us the FT-1 concept as the new Supra people would’ve paid whatever it took and if they just had to collaborate it should’ve been with Porsche then they would’ve had sometime truly special but they gave us a small stubby yet capable M2

@@MJ100k yeah. I’d accept that. They were working on an LCF that was an LC500 with a twin turbo V8 but they scraped it now that would’ve been the perfect engine for a new Supra but for some reason Toyota was obsessed with making it affordable even Jay Leno told them please make the FT-1 as close as possible to production but they didn’t listen. Supra is supposed to be a competitor to the Nissan GTR like you said.

I'd been saying the e92 335i was the unofficial replacement for the mk4 Supra for years.
Fact is, BMW are just about the only company on earth now that build straight 6 turbo engines. Toyota don't. The 2JZ was an anomaly not the norm. Anyone buying a Supra wants a turbo 6 and it would cost a bomb to build one.
Also, the Supra isnt an M4. It's qma Z4 40i so very little M4 parts. Engine is not the same. Gear box etc is not the same. And the price is nowhere near the same.

    • @MJ100k

I think Toyota guys would have been a lot happier if they made the Supra - a Toyota version of the v8 Lexus LC500. Also, this would have saved a ton of money, not having to develop a straight 6 engine from scratch.
The difference between a straight 6 and a v8 - is not as drastic as the difference between a Toyota and a BMW. Also, the LC500 looks WAY better than the BMW Supra. 👀

    • @matthewnicholas6365
      @matthewnicholas6365 7 днів тому +1

@MJ100k you don't know Supra guys then. It's all about the modding potential. You have literally nothing on a V8 NA and literally no limit on an already great B58 turbo lump.
If you tried to market an NA to Supra fans, they'd turn their back on you immediately.
I bet if they offered both a B58 and an NA V8, they'd sell more B58's
Another problem with the Supra fans is that they don't actually know why the 2JZ was a great engine. Because of that, they're convinced nothing is as good.
They don't understand that the B58 has many commonalities with the 2JZ, but on a far more modern scale so it meets all the regulations and minimum standards. And people are already easily getting 700+ horse power from them. It's a great engine. I have an M4 with the S55 but I doubt the B58 is particularly inferior at all and is safer to modify well past my 430hp

@@matthewnicholas6365 Bro - It’s not about engine vs engine.. There are plenty of engines out there that are more tunable than most Toyota engines. It’s about the fact that it’s a BMW - Most Toyota guys don’t want anything associated with BMW - no matter how tuneable, or how good you think it is. Period
I’d venture to say most BMW guys wouldn’t want a rebadged Toyota. There’s really no way around that 🤷‍♂️

@MJ100k I think you underestimate how wedded to a 3.0 straight 6 turbo Supra fanbois are.
And not many, if any, make those. Especially not on the scale of BMW.
If you asked 100 self proclaimed supra fanbois what type of engine a Supra should have they'd all say inline 6 turbo. None would vote for an NA.
It would literally alienate the lot of them.
