I NOTICED SOME OIL CONSUMPTION ON MINE THIS WEEK… I MADE A TRIP OF 1700 MILES AND WHEN I CAME BACK I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AND IT NEEDED IT A QUART… IM GOING TO REPLACE THE PCV VALVE AND I’LL KEEP ON CHECKING THE OIL LEVEL…I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL BEFORE THIS TRIP AND IT WAS LOW BUT JUST UNDER THE FULL LEVEL LINE … NOTHING SERIOUS…I HAVE 89300 MILES ON IT…
I bought my car used with 100k miles .i drove 72k miles in 4 years. My oil consumption has been the same for all this time. About 1qt /1500-2000ml(more in winter ). My recommendation: change the PCV valve and check the oil level every 1k ml.
Did replacing the PCV valve help with oil consumption or performance? I have a 2012 MDX and a 2011 MDX; the 2012 consumes some oil (roughly a quart every 3-4,000 miles) - not too bad but the engine doesn't have the power or torque of my older 2003 MDX or my wife's 2017 MDX (I have 4 of them total, but this generation is my least favorite due to the lack luster power).
@@noleksandr I'm super familiar with MDXs - I've been dirving nothing but MDXs since 2003 and currently own 4 of them. My wife drives a 2017 MDX and it's a rocket. My daughter is still driving my '03 with nearly 300K miles it has more torque than the 2011 or the 2012 (gen 3 models) even though the Gen 3's have a larger engine and reported to have 300hp (more than any other MDX). I replaced the airfilter with a K&N a few months ago and it seemed to help with the power at first, but quickly tapered off. This has me wondering/hoping if replacing the PCV valves on those 2 vehicles would help - maybe a bad PCV is causing it to suck up too much oil and dirty the air filter and or screwing with the fuel mixture sensors. If memory serves there was a good bit of oily residue in the air box when I changed the air filter. That's why I was curious if anyone else had noticed a performance difference from changing the PCV valve on one of these. Thx Tim
how is the oil consumption now? mine don't have oil consumption (yet) still have 56k miles on mine. changing my oil every 3k miles and just changed the pcv valve
That is a lot… Right now I have 216k miles and car using 1qt on 1000 miles. Switch to regular Use 5/20 oil. Replace pcv valve. Are you considering selling?
@@mortgagesdmv9205 Yes, it’s a hell of a lot of oil. I was thinking it was the piston rings, but the car absolutely does not smoke. Do you really think it’s the PCV? I’m using Quaker state 5/20 high mileage at the moment. I’m considering blowing it up, this truck is horrible.
@@mortgagesdmv9205 Will a bad PCV really cause that much consumption? It must just slurp it right out of the engine 🤦♂️ I put a quart in yesterday @ 3/4 tank of gas and now the oil is reading just above the low oil line. This is crazy. Yeah, I’m seriously considering selling it. If your friend is in Denver, I’d be happy to let him have a gander at it.

@@Crashe62 yes. Oil consumption went down. Mdx are fast suv. Check spark plugs, air filters, engine codes

Looks like it’s time for pistons and rings 😝

My 153k mi ‘10 MDX is using a quart at every fill up, about 350mi🤦♂️ I hate this car

@@nicknick9081 I think it’s pcv.
I replace pcv every 25-30k miles. It’s only $25.
I’ve honda mechanic friend who may buy the car if you decide to sell

@@nicknick9081 most likely pistons and rings need to be replaced. Cylinder walls damaged
How much would you like for the truck?
