This started as an act on Saturday Night Live. Garrett Morris gave the introduction and he was on of the regulars on the show. The amazing thing was how good they really were. Not too shabby for a couple of actors.
Garrett Morris is a New Orleanian who graduated from Dillard. He's still alive today.
A watershed and seminal moment for SNL.
@@dinellewatson1507And he was a great singer himself. The bit from the first season where he sings “Winter Wonderland” with the rest of the cast and Candice Bergen is one of my favorite things ever. He’s just so goddamn joyful throughout it.
Like everyone has or will say: watch the movie!!!!
You MUST see the movie Blues Brothers. Most of the older rock n roll stars are in it with cameo appearances. Get someone as old as me (71) or older to tell you who everyone is. The sound track is phenomenal!! Enjoy!!
I love it when dude tells Aretha to "shut up, woman!"
The Blues Brothers is my favorite movie.
@@loriwiggins9354And the fact that Aretha’s last line in the movie is “Shit.”
That MC was Garrett Morris. Comedian. He was part of the first alumnus of the SNL TV show.
Darn good for a couple of comedians!
You gotta watch the movie. Some serious musicians involved here
Hall of Fame musicians, too!
These are characters from Saturday Night Live. The movie is hysterical.
We have to remember these two are some of best comedians ever! They are hilarious on Saturday Night Live! They are genius in The Blues Brothers with a movie packed full of legends of the Blues/Soul music! A must see movie!
2 of the OG’s of Saturday Night Live. The show was great back then. Oh, I can’t forget Mr.Bill lol
The SNL OGs were the best. Few who came after could even compare. Loved Mr Bill -- and Land Shark ... Cooking With Ganja .... Point/CounterPoint w Jane Curtain and Dan Akroyd. Man those WERE the days!
Oh noo!
The Blues Brothers are an American blues and soul revivalist band founded in 1978 by comedians Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as part of a musical sketch on Saturday Night Live. There was a movie titled, The Blues Brothers in 1980 ~ check it out ~ it's classic for us "old folks" LOL!
Let's not forget some band members who laid down the sound: Matt "Guitar" Murphy; Steve "The Colonel" Cropper, Guitar; Donald "Duck" Dunn, Guitar (Bass); Tom "Bones" Malone, Sax (Baritone), Sax (Tenor), Trombone, Trumpet; Alan "Mr. Fabulous" Rubin, Trumpet; Steve Jordan, Drums; "Blue" Lou Marini, Sax (Tenor); Tom "Triple Scale" Scott, Sax (Tenor); and of course, Paul "The Shiv" Shaffer {The Late Show w/ David Letterman}, Hammond B3, Keyboards.
Paul was the one who put the band together. His contract kept him from being in movie.
@@shawnyoung8752Boy, what a shitty contract.
John and Dan were serious about the music. That's what made them so good. They wanted to get a band together, and so they tried it out with the SNL "house" band during a "Killer Bees" sketch (their original song was the Willie Dixon song "Backdoor Man", recorded by Howlin Wolf as well as The Doors and The Stones). It had a very positive response, so Dan and Paul Schaffer started calling up some big names in the R&B industry and "getting the band together", and this was their second outing, with the full band and with John and Dan as the front men, "Joliet Jake and Elwood Blues." (Btw Dan could really play the harp. They weren't dubbing him in.) They went on to have a hit movie, a double-platinum album and a very successful world tour.
This movie is great. ❤❤❤❤❤
Dan Akrroid AKA,Elwood Blues was a big Blues fan and introduced John Belushi to the Blues. The rest is history. They are credited with helping to keep Blues alive. Check out the movie.
They were indeed a real band and would have gone onto greater things.....I really don't know that for sure, but they were funny as hell. Probably be on "Blues Brothers 25" by now if John could have got clean. R.I.P.
These guys were hysterical!!!! They sang but they were comedy legends!!!
I want to disagree that this is not a real band, since they did gigs and a movie and the band is the original band on the original recording. But very nice to see they still get the love. Intro dude was fellow comedian Garrett Morris. Peace.
If you wanna hear the real artist that sings this classic listen to Sam and Dave sing this song. This is their song.
Loved Sam & Dave I'my high school years
Much respect to Dan and John, Blues Bros
It seemed to me he was checking out The Blues Brothers, Not Soul Man.
@@malcolmdrake6137 Somebody recommended the Blues Brothers instead of the originators Sam and Dave
Jake & Elroy! Better known as Dan Akroyd & John Belushi. Like the others said, please check out the Blues Brothers movie
Jake and Elwood
@@aviatom1 yes! My baddd! 😉
I saw this LIVE when it debuted on SNL... Big Blues Brothers Fan.
I was on High School in the late 70s and early 80s in L.A and remember how on Mondays we would all talk about the Saturday Night Live episode that just aired....good times
Not a real group. Comedians Dan Akroyd and John Belushi. The movie is also the Blues Brothers.
Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi were just actors on Saturday night live and revved up the blues across America back then. That was awesome Adog.
They came on stage at the palladium in NEW YORK CITY DURING A ALLMAN BROS. CONCERT🤗
I used to have cats named Jake & Elwood!
Blues Brothers = Awesome!
Please tell me you know that's the late GREAT John Belushi & Dan Aykroyd, both original SNL cast members with successful acting careers after moving on as Blues Brothers proves?
YOU MUST WATCH IT. I've seen a lot if older movies that just seem dated now, but Blues Brothers is truly timeless! ITS FUNNY AF!
The gentleman on guitar was Steve Cropper of Booker T and MGs from Stax Records in Memphis. He co-wrote Sitting on the Dock of the Bay
The man on guitar is Steve Cropper from Booker T and the MGs at Stax records. He also co wrote Sitting on the Dock of the bay
This was Saturday Night Live. They were comedians on the show.
You have to see the movie!
Akyroyd turned Belushi onto the blues; John Belushi came out in a bee costume and sang 'Im a King Bee' and that's where it all began.
If you add Al Jackson on drums (pre-stabbing), and Booker T on the piano and Hammond B3 to Steve Cropper and Donald 'Duck' Dunn, you get the fabulous Booker T and the MGs!!
If you are interested in listening to another harmony band, give this one a listen. "Pablo Cruise - Love Will Find A Way (1978)" I really miss John Belushi he was really talented (😥RIP: John) and Dan Aykroyd went on to have an amazing acting career. He played in movies like Ghostbusters, The Great Outdoors, Trading Places, My Girl, My Fellow American and the list goes on. Nice reaction, thanks great memories👍💖
The tall guy is Dan Akroyd who played Ray Stanz in Ghostbusters.
Carrie Fisher was the host this night, and she would eventually join them in the movie.
Gosh I'm old. I remember watching this live on tv.
He must have wanted to laugh at Dan Aykroyd's goofy dancing but didn't to be respectful. That's cool.
Original SNL (Saturday night live) cast - the late John Belushi & Dan Aykroyd, may know them from Animal House & original Ghost Busters respectively
Dan and John weren't just geniuses, they were fans.
I remember watching this the night it aired, lol.
Back in the day The Blues Brothers singing those songs. We had beautiful music back in the day.
Nothing was like snl and a joint back in the day good times
Such a fine time to grow up.
I gotta love the SOX hat.
John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, legendary, you have to see the movie Blues Brothers and they were legendary in the first SNL and making it a great sucess!
This is an SNL skit that is as well performed as it is funny.
Musical genius
❤
Check out the movie from the 70's. Man... The Blues Brothers!
Dance dance dance
this is when SNL was awesome.
Find the movie of the Blues Brothers and the live recorded concert name briefcase full of blues they will not do you wrong
🎶🎶🎶🔥🔥🔥🔥
Belushi was the man!
😂☮️💜
Sadly almost all of the band member have now passed away. The announcer is Earl,, on 2 Broke Girls. And so many people don't know that Paul Shaffer (David Letterman Show) was a major part of this band, behind the scenes.
I think the announcer was Garret Morris?
@@jamiemitchell8281yes and he played earl on 2 broke girls.
I'm on a mission from god
Watch the movie it will tickle the funny bone
John Belushi was GOD
First time huh
If you don't know old school you don't know music
Please react to Kelly Clarkson any song from her. I love all her work but if you need a starting point - "A Moment Like This" was her winning song from American Idol.
This has James dean rotten all over it lol
Fix the cigarette lighter.
Those are comedians original SNL line up not full time musicians
