Brad & Lex, you'll love their "Hold On, I'm Comin' " and "I Thank You" !!!
All great ones.
Those are all awesome 🎵 tunes
Dan Akryod and John Belushi's version is the one you might remember as The Blues Brothers. 💙🎼🎵🎼🎧
Oops. I meant that to be my comment for Brad and Lex. Old people problems 🤣🤣
the original studio versions
Originally a skit on SNL with Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi, it was expanded into a movie. The Blues Brothers was a cool movie, but I prefer Sam and Dave’s original song. 😎
Originally?
@@brachiator1 I think he means the Blues Brothers was a skit.
90% of Gen X (including me at one point): "Wait, you mean someone who wasn't the Blues Brothers did this first?"
@@josephgilbert3632 thank you sir for clarifying my post. You are a gentleman and a scholar!👍😎
These ARE THE ORIGINAL ARTIST. Written by Dave Porter and Isaac Hayes (Dave from Sam and Dave)
Stax Records and their slate of session musicians are almost unmatched. They are so good. Lots of great Memphis Soul for y'all to get into if you want more of this. Booker T and the MGs, Otis Reading, Isaac Hayes, The Mar-Keys, Carla Thomas, the Bar-Kays. So much great music came out of that studio in the 60s.
Totally agree! Stax and Muscle Shoals was the soul of the south. ♥
I have a Stax Records t-shirt.
Good point. In this case Sam and Dave are backed up by what would become half of the Blues Brother's Band.
"Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story" is so good!
This is the second reaction I've seen to Sam and Dave, but covers to their songs get praises that are only imitations to the real soul of Sam and Dave.
The guitarist is the great Steve Cropper! He n bassist Duck Dunn later revived this with The Blues Brothers for fun. GREAT ALBUM. See the skit on SNL. Then it became a movie.
This is when great backing musicians were affordable!
The Blues Brothers Band were full of AUTHENTIC blues musicians making them completely legit, aside from the fact that they pretty much debuted on a comedy show.
I don't know of too many cover versions of a song that have some of the original backing musicians playing in the cover version.
@@ffjsb agree! Fully authentic.
Note that the band had played n recorded the album over the summer. So they didn’t technically debut on SNL, n contributed to how tight the act was.
It was SUCH a welcome jolt out of the blue(s)!! 👍🏼👍🏼
And They Played Totally Live and None of The Fake Stuff Like Today's Music ?? LOL Agree With You 100 %
@@loudog2326 Not everything digital is bad. Sometimes you could never do things live that you do in the studio like ELO or 21Pilots.
And Autotune has it's place. Cher's "Believe" is a good use of it, but there's a lot of crap out there too.
Also, Cropper is the co-writer of Soul Man, and co-wrote many of the Stax classic R&B songs.
This was a HUGE hit in 1967. Made it to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Still a staple on oldies radio.
Now this is the R & B I grew up hearing played on the radio. You may be thinking of the Blues Brothers’ cover in the movie. Great tune! ✌️❤️🎶
The guitarist here is Steve Cropper, played in the Blues Brothers as well as also performing with Aretha Franiklin and Otis Redding among others.
Some of the greatest studio musicians backing them up ie. Steve "The Colonel" Cropper on lead guitar Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass, Booker T Jones on piano, Isaac Hayes on organ, Al Jackson Jr on drums, Wayne Jackson on trumpet, Charles "Packy" Axton on tenor saxophone and Don Nix on baritone saxophone.
How could you go wrong?
@@markallan5484 , Exactly ! The only thing better than listening to this would be to have been there in the studio while they were recording.
These 60s "Soul Brothers" are the original singers of cool. Dance Music supreme!
These guys were so good back then, and their music still is.
The Sultans of Sweat
I’ll never understand how anyone can grow up to adulthood in America and not be totally 100% familiar with a song like this. It seems like you’d have to be born and raised in an underground cave. I mean, just walking around in any town or city for 20+ years you’d have to have heard it hundreds of times even if you don’t own a radio yourself!
I know. I’m old.
Imo they pretend not knowing lots of these songs
Who hasn't seen (or heard) the Blues Brothers?
@@manuelmdemarco some reaction channels do for sure, but Lex is pretty upfront when she recognizes something, like she did here. The funny thing is that she just recognizes the one little horn part, whereas you’d think the whole song would be completely familiar to just about everyone, especially the title itself. Hell, they even used it for the title of a famous (and controversially awful) movie.
@@keef7224 True. But there's no way they didn't know about Insane in the brain
I grew up with this music in Ireland and i love this song its just happy.. good memories dancing with my ma as a kid :)
I’m from Memphis and grew up with so much great music being made in my hometown. Stax was amazing!! Lex, your mom probably played Sam and Dave. You both have likely heard this sung by Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi in the Blues Brothers movie, and they used some of these fabulous Stax musicians, too. I’m sure others have named them.
I grew up a metalhead in the 80's & 90's, but this is real music. Sam & Dave had hits. Motown & Stax produced the best music ever. Those 2 record companies influenced everybody, even rock stars.
Sam & Dave are criminally underrated in my opinion.
Not by anyone who truly appreciates great soul music. These guys were a couple of the all time greats of live soul. No 'AutoTune'. All live and totally real. This is what great soul music sounds like. Absolute legends and masters of their craft.
Sam and Dave had several hits in the late 60’s, backed by Stax records house band. They were the inspiration for “The blues brothers “ Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi.
classic awesome tune.. Donald 'duck" Dunn keeping it funky on the bass - respect and RIP
Need to do more soul, R&B, and Motown music on your channel!. Its very good music for the '60s, '70, '80s. These kinds of songs are always on movies too jaja.
John Bulushi and Dan Ackroid remade this as the "Blues Brothers '.Made into a movie because it was so successful.
They were one of the most influential artists of the sixties/seventies. Watch the video again and you'll see that they each sing separate verses. Next up should be their incredible "Hold on I'm comin"
Soul! My Sam and Dave story is when their drummer dropped a drum stick I picked it up and gave it back to him. I made History!
jaja nice!
And I overlooked Donald Duck Dunn on Bass who was also in the Blues Brothers.
Fun Fact: Issac Hayes, Chef from South Park and Duke of New York from Escape From New York plays the keyboards on the studio track.
See Stax Studio
Brings back memories of high school band. The one year we did a "themed" marching set was "Blues Brothers". One of my all-time favorite soundtracks!
Thank you guys for putting a huge smile on my face with this one. Pure class.
Absolutely love Soul Man ... it was played at every dance and party! Thank you for the memories!
Brad, I saw you luving this, don't deny it!!! good memories.😂😂😂😂😂
Terrific R&B / Soul ! Miss the days when everytime you turned on the radio you could here great music like this.
The last part of this vid is a pastiche of another of their songs "I Thank You". Sam Moore has a great voice 👌
More Stax please with that superb brass sound 🙏
"Was it in a movie?
The Blues Brothers baby. The Blues Brothers. Must watch!
Love this and love Sam and Dave! Do yourselves a favor and catch a great blues or soul band that has a horn section in a small venue. Live horns in a small venue are incredible! It'll blow your hair back!
Cheers!
We had a little Christmas snowman decoration that sang I'm a Snowman to this when you pressed it's thumb. My grandson was a toddler at the time and couldn't get enough of it. I played the real song for him, and everytime he came over that's what he wanted to hear.
"I think he loves it when you are doing it with him" Lex you legend!
An absolute classic! Great job 👏
Steve Cropper on guitar. He also played guitar on this song with The Blues Brothers. Duck Dunn on bass. He also played with the Blues Brothers. I can't see the full band here but suspect that most of the musicians here also played The Blues Brothers.
It was in The Blues Brothers movie.
This is music that makes your day a little bit better 😊
The Genius of the LEGENDARY Iconic musical Genius Mr Isaac Hayes aka Black Moses 💯
God, did I love Sam & Dave as a teen, we hit Fri nite teen dances
And danced our asses off. Loved those days. Motown was soooo good. Might remember from Sat
Night Live and the Blues Bros
Makes you want to move!🕺
You should check out the snl blues brothers version next it’s probably the best snl I’ve ever seen
Covered by the Blues Brothers (John Belushi & Dan Aykroyd from SNL) Featured in the Blues Brothers movie.
It was also in the movie Soul Mn with C Tomas Howell wearing black face to get into college on minority scholarship
@@ArgonTheAware tanning pills
@@ArgonTheAware I never saw that movie so was unaware.
@@wcgcapone advanced black face using tanning pills instead of make up to last longer
Being young in the 60's from England I remember my older brother playing all the Stax ,Atlantic and Tamla Motown records, and today soul and RnB is all I listen to, best education I ever had.
This was Stax at its very best Quality 👏👏👏👍💥💥
Stax records, Memphis Tennessee for the younger viewers. Many great artists recorded at Stax, including Otis Redding.
Booker T and MGs were the studio musicians for Stax records, they also played on the Blues Brothers movie. their song Green Onions got back lot air play back in the day. Steve Cropper was the guitarist
I love this song, your guys Reaction and Brad smiling
This takes me way back. Thanks.
Well everybody mentioned the Blues Brothers, but dropped the ball on the fact that the Guitarist here is Steve Cropper, who plays guitar for the Blues Brothers.
Thanks I noticed him and wondered what else he did.
Steve is one of the MG’s which is the band. Stay studio band. Both Steve and the Duck had cameos in the movie.
Stax
Notice how he said "Play it Steve!" at one point. That was later echoed by The Blues Brothers when they covered this, as it was the same guitar player, Steve "The Colonel" Cropper.
Sam and Dave rock the house!
This song was featured in The Blues Brothers movie. Excellent movie. This is a great version right here. Love it! Thanks, cats.
I just picture you guys dancin around to this with your new addition! 🙂❤❤❤
Great reaction! Thanks that was enjoyable.
The song is a prime example of how old school r&b and rock and roll are roots of the same tree.
The song was used by the Blues Brothers also there was a movie Soul Man in the 80's. Where a white kid went black face to get free tuition to go to Harvard. Lol yea that was a real movie.
Dave Prater was from my home county. We have the Prater music festival in Ocilla, Georgia (Irwin County) each year: a three day festival. Different local musicians perform at a local outside venue plus arts and crafts. We give away a scholarship to a student going into music. The idea to honor Prater was from myself and another local gentleman, Reggie. It was presented to our local chamber several years ago and has grown each year. Stax Records was approached a few times but, but they seemed ambivalent. Oh well, we still have our music festival, scholarship and great memories of Dave Prater whose family still resides in our small community.
Nice! I bought the 45 rpm single of The Blues Brothers version of this back in 1979. Then I saw their movie. Then I moved on to the original. The drummer, bass player, guitar player on this were also members of Booker T. & The MG's at Stax Records. They played on numerous Stax hits back in the sixties. For more from Sam & Dave, check out "Hold On, I'm Comin'", "I Thank You", and "You Don't Know Like I Know" among others. PS. Check out Booker T & The MG's "Green Onions" too!
I always loved this.
Can’t hear this without wanting to watch The Blues Brothers. Fantastic soundtrack.
S&D are the Bosses, a legendary performance.
👍👍👍👍👍 💫
Duck Dunn on the bass!!!!!!!! Duck Dunn on the pipe!!!!!!!!!
🤘 🤘 It was covered in at least a couple movies, Soul Man and the Blues Brothers where most of Sam & Dave's band mates like Steve Cropper guitar & Donald Duck Dunn bass where also band mates of the Blues Brothers.
Love Sam and Dave. Great dancing music.
I love your laughter together
The best! And accompanied by my favorite movie starring the Brothers Jake and Elwood Blues.
I grew up listening to Sam and Dave. What great memories this song brings back. They were played constantly on the radio. 1967 was the year.
Another great duo, McFadden and Whitehead - Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now - great groove that will get you boppin.
Great duo, voices, songs all good for me. 1960s were the best!!! Woohoo 🎉 🎉
DAYUM! Even had Brad bobbing and weaving!!! LOL
the guitarist is steve cropper. the bassist is donald "duck" dunn, both members of MG (the Memphis Group).
SAW THEM LIVE, A GREAT SHOW...
See...we were right!
Love the shirt Lex...my favorite band!!
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST KNOWN SONGS IN MUSIC HISTORY.
Soul is a (mainly) black urban music style with elements of Blues and Gospel traditions, funky bass lines and often jazzy horns. On labels such as Stax and Motown, it was at its peak in the 1960s and 70s. Sam and Dave were just celebrating the music and its accompanying lifestyle.
Oh yeah, the real thing! 🤩 yes to watching SNL Blues Brothers cover
Steve "The Colonel" Cropper on guitar and Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass. Both were in the (Gold Ole) Blue Brothers (Boys Band) from Chicago. If you know, you know ;-)
This was The Midnight Special...arguably the best music show ever!
Brad had a smile listening
Great song - can’t fail to make you smile 👍
Totally solid!
The guy playing the guitar is Steve Cropper and the bassist is Donald Duck Dunn. They backed Sam and Dave on this and later were in the Blues Brothers and SNL band.
The Blues Brothers version of 'Soul Man' from the SNL cold open is on youtube and the video is very entertaining. Can't get over Dan Akroyd's dancing :-)
This song......you gotta move....I saw buddy guy in Springfield mass. Last nite.....85 year old man lit it up!
Both guys sang verses and split the bridge. Soulman was euphemistic for black man.
I grew up on this! I love it!
I would have been surprised if Lex hadn't known this song.
The Blues Brothers movie. The guitar player is the same one in the movie
Don’t get more soulful and fun than that 🎷🎷🎷🎸
So much love for Sam & Dave. I don’t know if anyone else mentioned it. Sam Moore is CeeLo Green’s uncle too.
The Blues Brothers movie (Jake & Elmore) sang this, but Sam & Dave are the ones that I remember the best.
Elwood.
El! Wood! 😁
Back in the day this was a great song to dance to!
So many movies to include "The Blues Brothers"
Great song!!
There was a movie called Soul Man, it was on that soundtrack as well.
@UCsE9NZ-MLpipAbJjeinXy4A it's more relevant now than in the 80's tbh.
Legendary music from Stax... this song was co-written by Isaac Hayes... he, Booker T. Jones and Steve Cropper are all Stax legends and all played on the original recording... If you're ever in Memphis, visit Stax... it's great fun and so musically significant.
Cool video. I grew up hearing this song, but I never saw Sam Moore, the lead singer, as a young man. I first saw him around 1992 or so when he did a duet with country singer Conway Twitty. They did a good cover of the song Rainy Night in Georgia.
Love this song
Great song... a classic.
Shout out to Steve “The Colonel” Cropper on guitar & Donald “Duck” Dunn on bass!
My two favorite Blues Brothers!!!
It may have already been mentioned, but the white guy playing guitar, Steve Cropper wrote this song!
The Blues Brothers. It's a comedy with singing, dancing a couple of car chases. Pretty good.
I believe the Guitarist was Steve Cropper from Booker T and the MG’s ( another band worth looking at) he wrote ‘Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay’ , made famous by Otis Redding.
Hold on I'm coming !!!! Another great song 🎵 🎶✌❤
Sam Moore 86 years young and still performing put out a 2022 version of his original 60’s song Soothe Me with Jimmy Barnes, well worth a listen and reaction 👌
Nothing wrong with being 86 years old!
This song was featured in the movie "The Blues Brothers", with John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as the brothers. Two members of their band, at least, appear in Sam and Dave's backing band, Guitarist Steve Cropper and Bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn, with the smoking pipe, the rhythm section at Stax Records and part of Booker T and The MG's, a premier band of the day.
