The Golf R vs WRX vs Audi awd systems conversation is legitimately one of my favorite automotive convo's I've heard in years

RE Paper food wrappers: I live in an apartment in San Francisco, CA and we have different bins depending on what you're discarding: Trash, Recycling, Compost. A lot of times, the main trash-can for the entire building will fill up, while the compost bin will only be 1/4 full. I haven't seen any paper candy bars, but I will tailor my purchasing habits based on what's easier to throw away. Especially since the trash collector can opt to blacklist your building if they repeatedly have to pull things like styrafoam or compost out of the recycling bins, etc.
I randomly had my Unicorn Circuit shirt on today, hello from California.

Audi S3 owner here. I love it 😊 €750 tune and dsg remap and it has 400hp. Great daily.
Ahaha Mike with the micra is one of my best mates 😂 He rang me to tell me about him being featured.
I’m the guy who got him the Shitbox sticker 😂
To all reading this, he loves that car more than his wife and kids.
Yes it's good to know they're brining it back ;)
love it when brining back is a podcast topic
I hope they're using galvanized steel.
I love the very subtle reference / nod to Tavarish.
Rotaries and turbo inline 6's? Mazda is quietly becoming badass!
Oh, so the rotary is a generator. We've been talking about why don't they do this for years. Glad someone is finally doing it. Best of both worlds.
Ohh they've been bad ass for years. Look up their rally sponsorship....
Mrk 1 GTI only came in 3 door and was the bomb.
long live the king of hatches!
One thing I miss about the old days of MCM is once upon a time, by the time you could upload them from Australia, I'd find them in my morning here far away. ;)
The Honda S2000 Type V was the first of a few different cars produced with variable gear ratio steering.
Australia, F*ck Yeah, coming again to save the mf day yeah...
also can we get those missing 10 minutes of car discussion as a seperate video?
Norway - Helmets is the only required safety gear. Love the show guys! Get your awesome show to Norway ASAP!!
I love Koenigsegg, bonkers company making bonkers cars, Christian seems like a good dude.
he always tries to build the most ridiculous thing simply to see if he can. and i LOVE that.
Excited to hear about the truck market from the best off road channel in the world
The best show i've seen in ages lol. So funny, keep it up guys lol 😂🤣😂
Clutch pedal and cheezels.... 🤤
22:00 I think we do in the US but I'm not sure if its State to State or country wide. Best is when it changes you have to find out from one of your mates 5 years later or whatever so we can give out as many tickets as possible to peeps
Yep, in W.A. you have to wear a bicycle helmet when riding an e-scooter. E-scooters are also required to be limited to a maximum speed of 25 km/h.
I own a 7.5 GTI and I agree with Marty. In terms of the steering feel of the GTI, I do love the handling but the steering is a little numb. It is definitely due to it being electric and a system which basically when stopped, lets go full lock in one turn. Great for daily stuff but it takers away from the driving experience and pleasure.
finally i can relieve the pressure building in my turbo,....
Hello from Thunder bay
Marty's, but it's an auto statement, that's just how my wife, daughter, and I feel, living here in the U S. I grew up around them, was riding a manual by age 7, and almost every vehicle I owned was stick. My classics and muscle that were worth more original, stayed as it was, fun stuff gained a pedal.
Taught both of them to drive stick, early on, at a mate's farm for the daughter and our surrogate daughter. We were bailing that afternoon, perfect place to teach a tall 11 year old, and 12 year old
Wife learned while we were dating, as her car broke down, and had poorly done frame straightening, making it unsafe for her and her daughter.
Ended up teaching her on the 73 F 250, as it had a granny low 5 speed. Took right to it, and had her driving the Dakota Shelby, and Spirit R/T by the end of the week.
She also wanted to get her M endorsement. I refused to buy her a bike, until she could drive a manual car, first.
Now, If you can find one, manuals are more expensive new, but still cheap, unless it's something special, when you can find them.
Hell. I still drive them as a double amputee, legal if you use prosthetic legs or feet. Same with biker, snd even mopeds.
My daily is a wherlchair. No way I can do a full day on my AK prosthetic yet, still working on that, every day. Can't avoid that. 16 years as a BA, below ankle, on the shift side, custom shoe orthotic.
My toy is a 2018 Honda Ruckus, when the leg lets me. And yes.
I ride it with the metal leg showing.
I build steering gears for a living. There are variable gear ratio steering systems available. The system uses two pinions. One is the input from the steering wheel. The other is an assist pinion that is connected to an electric motor controlled by the car's computer; effectively changing the ratio of the steering on the fly depending on driving conditions, selected mode, and so on.
my honda CR-Z has electric steering rack that gets heavier in sport mode. the steering is my favourite trait of the vehicle. it feels so nice
Lol, still the greatest waste of interballs ever! Thanks so much for continuing to share lads. Love it.
I had a crash 24 years ago with my motorcycle. Had I not worn a helmet, that would have been it. I will always use a helmet when I go for a ride with my motorcycle.
helmets are mandatory in Nebraska, but next door in Iowa, they aren't. and i cannot believe how stupid those people are when they elect to be dangerous. thinning the herd comes to mind.
@@ghomerhust some want the Darwin award.
Marty, you can have a variable ratio steering rack. Imagine you have the standard tooth bar going back and forth but the gear on the steering shaft is cone shaped. So when it goes in it effectively becomes larger and when it goes out it effectively become smaller. This can give you a variable ratio steering.
There are a few cars, mostly German, that have come with variable ratio racks. I'm not a fan of them as they are just another thing to go wrong but if you're buying a brand new car I suppose it's a neat option.
Lexus lx/LC 100 and 200 series have vgrs with the typical low failure rate of land cruisers.
Steer by wire is probably cheaper to build and easier to package.
I'm twelve mentally, "as it goes in, it gets larger"...
MCM TV2 is the best show to put on when you working on your car
Lmfao. The tasty slot is mine. I'm so glad you guys posted it. Great commentary
id have my old wrx as it was a "wagon" with all the STi goodies ahahahahah......this was a fkn magical episode 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the code!
man im glad i live in the USA
True story - This is exactly what I needed tonight. Cracked me up. Also, this is the best 4WD sub-channel on the internet
I have two GTIs (mk5 and mk8) 2(3) door and 4(5) door respectively. I've always thought 4 door GTIs were meh, but eventually grew on me.
The correct orientation for an engine at the front is transversally, and the right set of wheels to drive is the front ones.
FWD SUX!
I loved this episode so much! So funny xD
Also I'll just take the BRZ and you can have the rest :P
Hahahaha
Marty repeating “hey siri” made my phone start talking 😂
36:18 Hes right Moog. 2 door Turd beats 2 door fridge all day everyday.
Fun fact: I was hungry for Ice Cream and the Macca’s one was broken. There was a Safeway nearby but all of the ice cream was expensive. Never got any. However, I did manage to Fank “Hump Slo” before leaving.
It should’ve been “Hump Slo Cream” but I was alone.
Also, Koenigsegg’s V8? It’s actually a variant of Ford’s OTHER great engine: the Modular V8 which is shared with the Mustang, F-150 and the Ford GT from the early 2000’s.
Patiently waiting for another puppet show 😊
Anyone catch the typo in the title?
Absolutely love the heated discussion 😂 Best episode in a long time!
2 door Cuore! Love it
I've got them exact IKEA stools in my kitchen here in the UK. Modded as well took about 35mm off all the legs to fit under the breakfast bar. Haha
Our biweekly unicorn dose
The steering feel in VAG is the best imo
In regards to Variable Steering Ratio, Check out Honda S2000 VGS Steering system. Other method to implement this on the cheap would probably be flyby (in this case steering by??????) wires.
I actually would watch more of them talking about Audi vs Subs......
The future of infotainment is going to be one screen (gauge cluster) with wireless Android Auto or Car Play embedded. We went from touch screens for radio only, to touch screens for radio / car settings, to two screens next to each other, to one big screen across the middle. Next logical step is just one screen for the gauge cluster, radio, and car settings together. Mazda has the right idea to disable touchscreens in motion and put it out of reach but easily within line of sight.
Also, yes there are a few variable ratio steering racks. Some of them work like a drill where it uses planetary gears, and some of them just change the angle of the pinion.
Yes you can have a variable ratio rack and your Golf R has/had one
the idea of using a tiny lightweight rotary as the charging unit for an EV is really clever. much less space needed vs a piston engine, and less added weight.
i MADE a 5 door GTI VR6 because i wanted to haul my kids. we didnt get the vr6 in a mk3 5 door in the US.
Helmets here in south Australia on all bikes scooters roller blades etc.
It's the electric motor that's Dark Matter in Gemera. Also, I'd pronounce the model name like "yemera" because it looks like "ge mera" in Swedish, which means "give more".
Excellent argument! 10/10!
28:49 Facts.
Totally with you Marty. Manual STI over any slushbox car. Don’t get me started on the whole paddles argument. You use them for 2 mins before you realise you are kidding yourself.
I love that #9 on your sheet isn't even spelled right. "Radom eat bag" 🤣🤣🤣
Brining!!!!!!! 😂
Clutch pedal wins, no matter what car.
You guys are the best
if electric steering is completely disconnected from the electric motor, it is possible to make a variable ratio electronically, it would just be mapping degrees of the steering wheel to angle of the tires, you could have a switch to add a multiplier to act as though your steering wheel was turned 90 degrees as opposed to the 60 degrees the wheel was actually turned, effectively changing the steering rack ratio.
Rotory now, Sweet.😊
Ahh time to tune into my weekly dose
weekly?

5:48 central USA, I purchase drinks based on packaging. I will purchase an aluminum can I know I’ll recycle over a plastic bottle that I can only try to recycle. I hate single use plastics and will totally choose what product I buy with consideration of the packaging.
5:50 Ive not seen a single one of these in america yet. Still normal plastic/foil like wrappers everywhere on everything.
To help you visualize it a bit with those audio engineer brains I'll make a signal flow chart. (Fuel tank -> Rotary generator)/Charger Port => Battery -> electric motors -> wheels. Selection of 2 inputs of power summed at the batteries and outputted from the electric motors to the wheels.
That works for the Chevy Volt (Opel Ampera etc) but not for Honda IMA or Toyota/Lexus HSD. With IMA the motor is sandwiched between the engine and gearbox, producing positive torque to help the engine, or negative torque to charge the battery. HSD pairs the engine with a motor with a planetary gear set, and the output is paired with another motor in a second planetary, the output of which drives the diff. The control of the two motors gives you a CVT for the engine and lets you drive electric only or charge the battery while not moving by having a motor providing a negative torque that balances the torque output of the engine. With the "gearbox" of the GS and LS hybrids, you can lock the engine input shaft, drive the two motors using aftermarket controllers and get 300kw/411hp to the diff.
@@EmyrDerfel Thanks for writing a paper on a topic that wasn't requested. They wanted to know how THIS particular hybrid works... with the rotary generator... but thanks for the Chat GPT write up.
I think the illusion of faster steering is due to the DCC firming up the dampers which gives sharper response. It needs less input to make the car react and the car is more capable of getting round the corner. A softer car will have a greater tendency to oversteer and require more input.
@Moog Talking about voice control, after buying the Chasing Midnight album whenever I say "Play Moog" my Ford Sync plays AC/DC. No idea why.
Talking shit about a JZX100 is sacrilege! Grandpa spec is life.
Also, listening to Moog fap on about how good RS3s are after selling one for a Golf R hurts alot.
Yep, Chasers are amazing cars, these guys just don't seem to like anything large, except Subie wagons lol.
Though tbh, Subie wagons are awesome.
Toyota (Lexus in the states) has an electric steering car with steering yolk (not a wheel) that has variable ratio based on speed. It also has electric feedback motors like a high end sim racing wheel... and since it's a yolk you keep your hands on it and only rotate like a half turn in each direction like an F1 car.
the delightful art of recontextualizing content and wasting the internets
Lexus have VGRS "Variable Gear Ratio Steering" on some cars, I liked how it felt on my GS450H, other people who drove it hated it - no idea how it actually worked !
Make a photocopy of the torn sign (segment list) and make that the new sign :D
Front wheel drives are cool as ,my Nan's got one
Fun fact(or not): Gemera is a sort of play with the swedish words Ge and Mera meaning ”Give More”. Now you know if you didn’t already.
They open the loud packages at the quiet part of a movie so that they don't interrupt the dialogue. At least that's my thinking, but I don't get loud foods at movies lol
omg my eyes burned when i saw that micra. why why why
12:40 FREEDOM COSTS A BUCK O' 5
It's about fanking time.😂
I look forward to the next dream/grandpa/puppet mashup mini series featuring a Jeep and a landrover for all the grandpa's and puppets out there. Well suited to the world's best 4x4 channel! 😂
That cannot possibly be the most powerful v8. Maybe gas v8, but there must be more powerful massive diesel V8s in ships and trains.
its a rotary generator...its just a range extender. Can't say powered by unless it can solely power the car without a closed system. If the car needs to be plugged into a charger to refill batteries then its electric powered.
MK2 Golf GTi has to be 3 door
We need an episode of unicorn where M&M just go off the chain 😂
Oh and manual gearbox always for the W
Marty had an RS6 Avant!
like 20 years ago my supervisor at work was trying to regrow his foreskin with a complicated system of weights and tape, it took him forever to take a leak because he had to take it all apart and put it back together
I figure it's Moog wearing the unicorn costume head, can't be Marty
I've always found the helmet law an interesting one. Firstly its interesting because the way its written includes bikes and scooters but not skateboards, because scooters fall into the definition of a bike (2 wheeled, manually propelled vehicle) whereas a skateboard is a wheeled toy as it has 4 wheels. Secondly from a public healthcare point of view it makes sense that helmets are mandatory. If helmets reduce enough brain injuries that would otherwise be burdening the healthcare system, then annoying a few people that don't want to wear one makes monetary sense. I often look at a lot of safety related laws through this lens and a lot seem to make more sense.
5 door golf gti ftw
The Infiniti Q60, Lexus RZ450e, and Toyota BZ4X have steer by wire and with that you can make steering curves with expo etc
mmm, salty rotary goodness!
there is no easy way to change steering ratio, but there is an easy way to create an illusion of it, by varying the power on the power steering
A 5-door VW Up looks better than a 3-door Up aswell :D BMW's with active steering have a variable rack, pretty sure more cars have that aswell.
Audi represent! This is the most professional car show on the internet
😂 no 5 (4) door golf looks limp , 3 (2) door looks boss 😎
Is the brined rotary a marine engine?
a Hybrid powertrain where the Rotary just powers the generator. Not the Car.
The Cybertruck looks like it's out of a Vectrex game.
You need to invite Doug Demuro to the show. He likes chocolate chip cookies too! 😆
