This is the best tutorial of this etude, and I would say your is one of the best channels for piano technique.Great biomechanique and musical approach. Thank you!
My teacher gave a good clue on the difficult last line. Each drop in the left hand is an octave. Each advance In the right hand is an octave. Loved this piece first time I heard it. Still play it.
This lesson is over six years old, but your insight, that the Études need BALANCE, is forever. The RH part is often so busy that the LH naturally out-muscles it, unless there's conscious restraint. Without LH restraint the RH part becomes a mere embellishment of the LH part, instead of an equal melodic compliment.
Fantastic Video Josh. Thank you for the great tips. the clarity of the video and the effects of the hands rolling, and flattening the hands are a great tip.
I'm self teaching myself to play and theres obviously some things you can't learn on your own, and basically everything you talk about is near and around what i'm missing... Thanks for this!! I'v watched alot of tutorial videos and most of them are the same and completely skip on these little tips you talk about! Great Job!
I followed your tip and my teacher said it too, but when I watched Kate Liu, she used all fingers! Her hands barely even rotate and hers were shaking yet she played it perfectly. I would suggest your method with the rotation but just wanted to point it out if ever people are wondering. Kate is a whole another level. Her hands never appeared to stiffen
that's Kate, she is a master and a on a whole another level, people just starting this etude will have a HARD time playing without rotating, then with time and experience movements can be minimized and look as effortless as possible
Elijah Kim 김기성 I don’t think it’s really that bad, but all of my teachers have corrected it if they caught me doing it. Probably because it creates tension
can you post a tutorial video on how to play Frédéric Chopin - Polonaise Op. 53 (Heroic) in A Flat Major for the piano. That is one of my all time favorite piano pieces and would really appreciate it if you could.
Hi josh! I would like to request one of thef following: Sonata 3, 1rst mov. by Chopin or Suggestion diabolique by Prokofiev. Im learning both of them and i would like some tips like arm weight, or important things to practice etc in general. Thank you!
Do you have any advice for small-handed folks? I can barely get an octave on white keys (black keys is a different story, but the right hand is not the problem for me). The left hand feels impossible for me in the chords.....especially those pedaled ninths.
Hey Josh I have a melody in my head which I believe is a Chopin piece, but I can't figure out its title. It goes :MI LA FA _ MI RE mi LA. CI RE DOU _ CI _ dou LA. (every upper case note has the same value and lower case notes have half the value; space bar indicates a rest the same value as an upper case note and a period is a dot). Your help is much appreciated!
Wonderful Josh. But this sound recording is killing you. You really are giving... great advice. Have you listened to Ivan Moravec? He really is the authority. Understatement... in relation to Chopin is the key. Just when one might think ff it's mf. That's Chopin. One must never strike the keys. I call it playing deep within the keys. Keep up the good work. Take your time. Sent with love. CVD
Tips and tricks won’t work. This is not a restaurant. Instructor didn’t say anything about importance of F sharp arpeggios . It’s excellent instruction for somebody who alreadyplay the music perfectly. Preparation is important scales arpeggios …
The touch is too heavy and the notes are sticking all together. There is no phrasing as well. Etude is a piece that requires techniques and there is NO way you can make it “easier” by rotating wrists, using arm weight, etc. that will only make the music sound NOT CORRECT.
"make it a bit shaky" thats why i fatigue so damn easily in this pieces. Thanks Josh!!
Hanafi Maulana You're welcome Hanafi. I hope it was helpful! Have a great day

I've missed not having my piano instructors anymore. This helped a great deal! Thanks for the tips!!!
Hi Josh, I really like the different camera angles. It's much easier to see exactly what you are doing.

Etude. Thank You!
Ive noticed you play a note with your pinky and 4th finger. Does thst make it easier?
No and it’s usually seen as a bad habit.

3:38 the right hand is difficult for me
Can you please do winter wind? How do you what movements to do like the arm weight and rotations? how do you know where to iuse it?
