Indeed. They're a top-15 all time band, IMO. They sit comfortably with the Zeps / Sabs / Stones / Maidens / Priests / Beatles / Floyds / Lizzys / Halens / Tulls / Yes' of the world.
ty so much for reacting to this song. I am 63 yrs old and I was a very young when I first heard about u.f.o. and I am so happy that ur generation is getting into this era of music! keep it going .listen to this era of music , there are soooo many bands from that era that I think you will love. I will send u names of bands of that era soon.
UFO is the most underrated band of that era imo. Michael Schenker is a huge influence on many current guitarists. He was 18 when this was recorded. Listen to Strangers in the Night all the way through. It is U.F.O as in unidentified flying objects. Schenker has a lot of great solo material as well. #Michael Schenker Desert Song
I like when studio version is done 1st so you can understand a song. Then when you got that base established then listen to the live where you can see how accurate it is or how they expanded the song in new directions.
Exactly! There's a guy who does videos with album version followed up with live. That's the best format in my opinion. Most of the time live doesn't come close to studio but there's some exceptions where they're really, really good.
I love seeing people's reactions to songs that I've loved forever. It makes me think what I looked like 1st hearing them. UFO is retiring after this tour and 50 years in the biz. I saw them 3 years ago and they kicked ass.
Saw UFO 4 times back in the day and they did not start any of those concerts with Doctor Doctor, they started each one with Too Hot to Handle. This was long after the release of Doctor Doctor. Each of the four shows was in the UK. One of those times they were support to Iron Maiden, because an accident had prevented the advertised support from appearing and UFO happened to be in the area and available.
#UFO TRY ME Keith Newcastle England. 13 year old in holiday and the hotel owners son said "so you like rock listen to this", must have played this song 30 times over the next 3 days. One of the best guitar solos I've ever heard.
Probably my favorite solo... It even loses me for a minute there in the middle, and then when it drives right back... THAT'S what gets me EVERY time. And it got you two, too! STEAMIN'! (even evh thought so 😉)
Your UFO (yup, as in U.F.O.) energized reactions have really forced me to go back and re-visit my entire old catalog of their stuff instead of just the highlighted massive tunes. THANK YOU!! Totally reminds me of my 1970's High School years.
Watch the video of Kirk Hammett (Metallica) meeting Michael Schenker (Scorpions ,UFO , MSG) on That Metal Show . Like a kid at Christmas. UFO had such an influence on so many.
A legend is born. Michael Schenker at 18 years old, after playing on The Scorpions Lonesome Crow album. A huge influence on hard rock and metal guitarists for decades to come. Check out #ThinLizzy Emerald from Live And Dangerous. Another of the greatest live albums ever.
The has to be the best reaction video you all have done. Rich, your genuine reaction to something so awesome that you’ve never heard before... the riff, the solo the bass line you totally enjoyed the song... like the first time you listened to band maid... keep em coming!
#UFO I'm A Loser (Alexandria, VA) - So glad you're discovering UFO...belatedly, just like I did! Look up the album (not live) version of this song. I appreciate this song more every time I hear it. Michael Schenker layers the electric guitar on top of the acoustic and the keyboards. Great melody....Great solo too!
I loved this song and live album “ Stangers in the night” used to listen to this album when I was in high school and play air guitar. Had every note of the album memorized. Just listening to it remembered every note like I was back in high school. Still have the album and listen to it 5 or so times a year. Another band same era was Y&T and Dave Meniketti. His guitar playing and their songs were very similar to UFO. Songs with soul and passion with flawless playing, loud & melodic. Grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area saw them play up to 50 times in my life. Saw Y&T several weeks ago. Dave Meniketti is 65 and still sounds the same and plays guitar as great as ever. Hard to believe they can play 2 1/2 hour shows. Anyone that loves UFO will love Y&T. I would recommend for anyone wanting to check out Y&T to listen to these 4 songs in this order to start. Guaranteed you will want to hear more. #Y&T Forever Sacramento CA, #Y&T Meansteak , #Y&T I Believe in You , #Y&T Rescue Me.
thanks for this. I've gotten so used to listening to live versions, I'd forgotten how right to the point this studio version is. that is to say the live versions extend all the sections, which I really like, but hearing the original without the extensions, was really good.
Kel and Rich: the best UFO album by far is their live album Strangers in the Night. Rock Bottom is a 12 minute powerhouse of Michael Schenker's superb playing. Highly recommend it. All us us rockheads who grew up with 70's rock have that album.
Guitar God Michael Schenker, he never ceases to amaze me!Can't wait for his new album next January 2021! The kid was just 18 when he wrote and recorded this immortal song and all the other gems on Phenomenon album !
Just saw Michael on the latest 'Schenkerfest' tour last week. Fourth time I've seen him in 6 years. GO if you get a chance. During Rock Bottom he always does a 20 minute solo...always awesome! Thanks for doing these ufo videos!
U.F.O. is taken from a venue the band played at, and was signed to a record deal there so they named the band in tribute to. Try the live version just for your own pleasure, it's an extended version, so bad ass!
The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushin' That's what I said The looser the waistband, the deeper the quicksand Or so I have read Big bottom, big bottom Talk about mud flaps, my girl's got 'em Big bottom drive me out of my mind How could I leave this behind? Purest art.
One of the most underrated bands in rock music. I bloody love UFO, and this is my favourite song of theirs (along with Lights Out). Sad to hear of Paul Raymond's passing a couple of weeks ago.
I have an Original gold stamp promo double vinyl of "Strangers in The Night"... One of, If not the best live album ever. I really wish they could have stayed together. Master class in hard rock...
Michael Shenckner is a great guitarist so is his brother Rudolf played with Scorpions Listen to Doctor Doctor from Ufo it's always played at Maiden shows before band goes on. it's UFO as in unidentified flying object but that's not the meaning of the name...its def not UFO (ooo-fo) lol guitarist Michael Schenker was a virtuoso guitarist at 15...played with Scorpions alongside his brother Rudolf....his solos are legendary
When I used to go the highlands in summer...and the roads really open up...I used to play rock bottom, full blast...it instantly added another 500 horsepower to my car...
# KingDiamond SleeplessNight Rafa PortugalMelody, great guitars, unique singer, great changes of rhythm, fantastic solos and a great story. From the 1989 "Conspiracy". album.
Michael Schenker was on tour with is brothers band Scorpions when Phil Mogg the vocalist in UFO spotted him and ask him to join his band. He have just turn 18 couldn't speak any English and the rest is rock history. Michael Schenker is a true guitar hero and a legend armed with a Flying V.
#MichaelSchenkerGroup Assault Attack #Fastway Say What You Will Michael Schenker is the UFO guitar player and Pete Way is the bass player for UFO. Walt from Wisconsin.
If you like UFO, their bass player formed a band after leaving UFO called #Waysted.. great band... you'll love em. Check out "Crazy Bout the Stuff", "Dead on your Legs" or "Manuel"
Gotta hear "Love to Love" or anything UFO Live...Lignts Out "Rock Bottom" is a good choice! "Strangers in the Night" is a vinyl that still blows me away! Michael Schenker ( whose brother Rudy is co-Guitarist in Scorpions), and Bassist Pete Way and the lead singers voice, always make me smile, and melt! It's U...F...O... Great live in 1980 when I saw them with Johnny VanZandt Band, and Blue Oyster Cult!! Love the Tee Shirts!! ✌💖😎🎹🎸🎧🇺🇸♾
U-F-O. Unidentified Flying Object. Yes you got it right. One of my favourite bands. See my comment on your "Doctor Doctor/Lights out vid. Love this song as well. Great stuff.
Originally taking the name Hocus Pocus, the group changed their name in October 1969 to UFO in honour of the London club where they were spotted by Noel Moore, who signed them to Beacon Records label (Wikipedia)
one of the most underrated bands of all time. RIP Paul Raymond who died a few week ago
13th of April.

Kel - you so funny. Can't tell how many road trips I've been on with this blasting.

Got to see them pre-pandemic this spring. First time since 1975. One of my all time favorite bands!
Saw UFO 4 times back in the day and they did not start any of those concerts with Doctor Doctor, they started each one with Too Hot to Handle. This was long after the release of Doctor Doctor. Each of the four shows was in the UK. All worship Michael schenker😎
Mike m. Greatest guitarist on the planet
🙌🙌🎸🤘
...and Phil Mogg !
My favorite band since 1980 when I was 14 and heard UFO strangers in the night that was it Addicted !
First band I ever saw live (‘81). This probably ranks as my favourite song. By anyone.
#UFO TRY ME Keith Newcastle England. 13 year old in holiday and the hotel owners son said "so you like rock listen to this", must have played this song 30 times over the next 3 days. One of the best guitar solos I've ever heard.
Totally agree, I have very fond memories from this song :)
Probably my favorite solo... It even loses me for a minute there in the middle, and then when it drives right back... THAT'S what gets me EVERY time. And it got you two, too! STEAMIN'! (even evh thought so 😉)
Absolutely the most underrated rock band ever. It blows my mind that they were playing in bars and very small venues 20 years ago.
The great Phil Mogg. 71 yrs old and still rockin.
Brilliant band live great to see your reaction to them so many great songs across their back catalogue. Thanks
Not many guitarists have a tone that can compete with that of the immortal Michael Schenker!!!
After Bon Scott, Phil Mogg and Phil Lynott are the best front-men ever. HAIL!
Too good to handle! #1 in my opinion!!!!!!!
The has to be the best reaction video you all have done. Rich, your genuine reaction to something so awesome that you’ve never heard before... the riff, the solo the bass line you totally enjoyed the song... like the first time you listened to band maid... keep em coming!

The live version from Strangers in the Night is the holy grail \m /!!
@Alfred Hernandez Great comment
#UFO love to love strangers in the night, phenomenal solo Tim Fort Mohave AZ
Dang you guys literally knocked out my 3 fave UFO songs in a matter of hours
The best rock song written EVER \M/. Also listen to on with the action from UFO, it will blow you away.
I have too add that Phil Mogg in the 70's had one of the best voices in Rock !
I loved this song and live album “ Stangers in the night” used to listen to this album when I was in high school and play air guitar. Had every note of the album memorized. I love this track and band! Michael Schenker (the lead guitarist) was 18 when he came up with this riff and solo!
I have seen Michael speaking on his technique. And what he did mostly was work his way up and down the strings whereas most others went across.
thanks for this. I've gotten so used to listening to live versions, I'd forgotten how right to the point this studio version is. that is to say the live versions extend all the sections, which I really like, but hearing the original without the extensions, was really good.

You should listen to the live version on Strangers in the Night...all tracks
UFO unidentified flying object. Michael Shanked one of the best riffs ever.
Oh no. Has to be the live version from Strangers.
Indeed you get a very nice cut through most of their songs.
This is one of those bands that the live versions of their songs tend to have more impact.. this song being one of them.
It's U....F.....O. I believe they took the name from a live music venue in London. Pink Floyd played there in the early days too.
Just saw Michael on the latest 'Schenkerfest' tour last week. Fourth time I've seen him in 6 years. GO if you get a chance. During Rock Bottom he always does a 20 minute solo...always awesome! Thanks for doing these ufo videos!
i ve seen Michael Schenker live...he has an incredible positive aura believe me !! ))
Should have been from strangers in the night. The guitar solo from that version is mind blowing
Damn I haven't heard this in a LONG time. Thanks to all who requested it and to KnR for playing it.
U.F.O. is taken from a venue the band played at, and was signed to a record deal there so they named the band in tribute to. Try the live version just for your own pleasure, it's an extended version, so bad ass!
The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushin'
That's what I said
The looser the waistband, the deeper the quicksand
Or so I have read
Big bottom, big bottom
Talk about mud flaps, my girl's got 'em
Big bottom drive me out of my mind
How could I leave this behind?
Purest art.
This song feels like running through a brick wall. Michael Schenker (guitarist) is underrated af
Michael Schenker is the Guitar God! Many consider his solo on Rock Bottom the best ever.
One of the most underrated bands in rock music. I bloody love UFO, and this is my favourite song of theirs (along with Lights Out). Sad to hear of Paul Raymond's passing a couple of weeks ago.
Need to listen to the Live version.
You also NEED to hear the UFO albums Obsession, and Walk on Water.
Steve Harris from Iron Maiden is a UFO fan!! Look the bass line 🤟🏻
I saw UFO several times in the 80s, always a great show
Strangers In The Night is one of hard rock's ultimate live albums

# KingDiamond SleeplessNight Rafa PortugalMelody, great guitars, unique singer, great changes of rhythm, fantastic solos and a great story. From the 1989 "Conspiracy". album.
Let's recognize it, w/o Michael Schenker, Iron Maiden would not be what they are today.
Many metal bands were influenced by him
Wow...and older video that I never ran across before........surprising that you'd never heard of UFO before this, Rich!
You should hear him play it even better today in his 60's.
Michael Schenker just played a show here the other day. I couldn't go :(
Kel n' Rich should see if he's going to be in Florida soon :)
I have all of UFO's cd's as well as MSG (Michael Shenkar Group's ) as well as all of his solo stuff.

Let's face it without Iron, Iron Maiden would just be another Maiden.
