I remember when this came out. Nothing like it then and nothing like it now. Best live album ever. A very talented group of individuals that came together like no other.
Schenker is my favorite. Classical training, fluid scales and shred with the best. Tone, speed, and feel!!!! Check other tunes by UFO. Criminally overlooked! "Only you can rock me", "Too hot to handle", Doctor Doctor, "Lights out" "Too much of nothin", "Shoot Shoot". Many more! Michael was the GOAT
You can have your Vanhalens and Malmsteens this solo has more feeling and emotion than any hard rock solo I have ever heard and I have been to over 300 shows in my life and Schenker is still at the top !!!!
I saw him live, then I learned who Eddie’s father was! I thoroughly love my EVH, Michaelgets faster and cleaner as the night goes on! In an interview w/Cream magazine after Michael left UFO, They asked Eddie about the offer to play with them, he said Michael’s boots were too big to fill!👍🏻🤟🏼👊🏻💯
I was at the Rush, UFO and Max Webster concert at Will Rogers auditorium in 1977. I was 17, drove my '68 Camaro and blasted a UFO eight track with a nickle under it to make it track right. Yep.
Lights Out is a must. Actually the whole live “Strangers in the Night” album is Amazing and the “greatest live album ever” according to Slash….and just about everyone who has ever listened to it.
UFO had a huge influence on Iron Maiden. UFO's 'Doctor Doctor' is always the last track that's been played before Maiden's live show starts. You should check out this song, then you'll certainly hear the influence.
You picked my favorite live album... check out Love to Love, Lights Out and Doctor Doctor.. btw, I was at that concert at the Amphitheatre in Chicago, 1978 for that performance. They still had their green lasers for the show, before they were outlawed... Michael Schenker was in rare form that evening... thx for having the taste to react on it... nothing I have, that I play louder than that 5 minute solo RIP Pete Way 2020
Such a great band, Michael was a guitar genius from such a young age. Never saw him with U.F.O. but did with MSG and in this you can definitely hear both his own talent and the influence he had on Randy Rhodes. U.F.O. Lost a couple of members this last year, RIP. Michael is alive and well and living in Brighton, England. Uli Jon Roth, who replaced Michael Schenker in the Scorpions, is also a phenomenal guitarist.
This is the song that caused me to beg my dad for a guitar, when I was 12. I just knew that I'd be a Rock Star by the time I was 18, today I'm 54, and I work for the railroad, but we've got a pretty tight bar band. We cover this, with my wife on vocals, she handles 90% of the vocals for us... Things could be worse
Guitar God Michael Schenker, hell yes!! 🤘🤘He's your guitar hero's guitar hero! The guy influenced even Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads even they were all the same age!! This guy shredded in the early 70s like nobody did before! He's top five lead guitar players ever. This live performance from 1978 (he was just 23) is legendary, a lead guitar playing masterclass...German perfection! The list of the guitarists he has influenced is infinitely long! This album "Strangers in the night" has been often voted as the greatest live album ever! He's currently celebrating 50 years of incredibile career, check out his latest release, it's amazing!
Fantastic reaction guys. It's been so much fun watching you experience this amazing song. UFO were soooo good in their prime, and Michael Schenker is one of the greatest rock guitar players of all time, and maybe the most underrated, considering he didn't make it on the Rolling Stone's top 100 which simply is a crime. Thanks a lot for this reaction, man. 👍
I was worried for a second at the start of this, because I thought we were gonna have a problem. Thankfully, you guys put proper respect on Michael Schenker's name. My favorite guitar player, and one of the greatest ever. Check out "Lights Out" from the same live record. It's one of the best recorded live leads I've ever heard.
Hey TT's great reaction to UFO, I don't know why Michael Schenker wasn't recognized in the 70's. I've seen them 7-9 times since the mid-70's. After a concert Michael Schenker and Pete Way walked up to us and we got autographs, talked, showed him pictures from a previous concert. We had an awesome time. I recommend a song from the Strangers in the Night album called "Let it Roll". You won't be disappointed!!!
Anyone who is seriously into hard rock/heavy metal knows UFO. They were and are criminally underrated by mainstream rock! They are also more then just Michael Schenker. Even without him they put out killer music!! Anything from the same live album, Strangers in the Night is killer! Check out: Lights Out, Only You Can Rock Me, Doctor Doctor, Love to Love.
Thx, bringing great Memorys back from my Youth, another Great Song From U.F.O named "Love to Love" off course live with Schenker on the Live Album "Strangers in the Night"
' Wonderful to see you lads enjoying this Biblical sized EPIC track from my youth & THE best live album ever Many thanks to Y'all from 'across the pond' / Atlantic Ocean & remember , it WAS recorded over in the U.S.A "Hello Chicago, would you please welcome from England.......U > F > O !!!!!!!!!!!!!" (how the album starts off)
This is freaking bananas. I just watched this video last night and now I'm driving home from work and I'm thinking to myself what was that song, I'd like to hear the guitar solo through the car stereo. As I'm thinking it it came on Ozzy's boneyard on Sirius XM
They had a guitarist called Mick Bolton originally, then two guys who never made it onto a UFO album, Larry Wallis, then Bernie Marsden. Marsden wasn't allowed into Germany, where they were about to tour, so they borrowed Schenker from the band they were touring with, the Scorpions. His first show with them was a tv broadcast, he'd only been shown the songs a few hours earlier, by four guys who couldn't speak German, and Schenker being unable to speak English.
I saw UFO in 1976 ! I was 13yo my 19yo stepbrother took me to the show (Dixon Myers North Hall Memphis TN October 76'). It was also the 2112 tour for RUSH ! My first concert ! My stepbrother is now a Master Luthier (stringed instrument maker) for PRS Guitars in Maryland. He had to sign a non-compete to work for Paul. I have done music off and on over the years (guitar, sing etc) This recording has left an indelible mark upon my cerebral cortex where my love for music is concerned !! I now listen to a lot of Symphonic Metal (Nightwish, Therion etc) I boughyt Schenkers 2 newest recordings that came out during the pandemic. He is KICKING ASS at 65yo !!
'Strangers In the Night' is one of my favourite live albums, ever. Michael Schenker was a huge influence on English guitarists at the end of the '70s (despite being German!). I was one of those. The tragedy is, this album was a huge success but Schenker left soon after the release because of bad dynamics in the band. He is known for his beautiful melodic solos. He played on one Scorpions album (his brother Rudolf is the rhythm guitarist for them). He has since played in the Michael Schenker Group (MSG). Incidentally, Michael Schenker still tours and plays this song. He is, if anything, even better than this now. See him if you can! He turned down many opportunities to join bigger outfits, like Ozzy's. He is a very enigmatic individual. I finally met him in 2018.
Tone, taste and technique and perhaps the least stated but most important, phrasing. Few have it all like this guy. But Schenker's phrasing is beyond sublime.
One of my dad's favorite bands. My dad has seen them many times and has taken my brother to see schenker play. Wasn't expecting this but I'm glad you did it. Speaking of my dads favorites, he's always been a fan of a band called savatage that is pretty underappreciated just like ufo. I think you guys would love a song they have called "edge of thorns". Its not the frontman they are probably most synonymous with on that track but even still, it's one of my favorite songs of all time. Just phenomenal.
If you're looking for another blow away song from UFO, listen to "Love to Love". It's a power rock ballad with melodic guitar lines, then ends with a killer guitar solo. Must hear!
I don't mess with trying to get reactors to do anything. UFO had a large fan base but most of us were happy to have them to ourselves. Michael Shenker is one of the most influential guitarists because of his work on Strangers In The Night. To this day, for my money, he's the best who has ever lived at playing melodic lead guitar and nobody has ever transitioned runs like he did. He goes from one lead into another into another seamlessly. It's more a shifting of gears throughout a lead instead of stopping one pattern and starting another.
Strangers in the Night is regarded as one of the greatest live albums of all time. The entire album is fire and Michael Schenker shows why he’s one of the greatest of all time. You should go through the whole album. I’m pretty sure I suggested you include him in the 70’s competition but who’s counting 😉
This rocks!! Although I grew up in this time period I really didn't listen to these guys but there were soooo many excellent bands back then. Rush toured with them through England back in the mid 70's with their second album. Rush tells some funny stories about touring with them. If you haven't watched Rush Beyond the Lighted Stage I would highly suggest it. Not only will it answer a lot your questions about Rush but it will also give you insight to the music scene back then and what you had to do to succeed. Cheers 🇨🇦
The first song I Heard by UFO was “Too Hot to Handle “ off of Lights Out in 1977 and was hooked . Bought that album , Obsession and Strangers in the Night live album . Bought their back catalog from the early years which is great but I will say lights out and Obsession are the two best studio produced albums with Schenker i.m.o. Schenker left and they replaced him with Paul Chapman , who , I find to be an incredible guitarist as well (maybe not the virtuoso Schenker was ) but I love the four albums he was on and Mechanix and The Wild Willing and the Innocent are incredible albums Anybody that followed rock back then probably is aware of UFO and even love them all my friends did and have no idea why they weren’t bigger. There are probably numerous reasons Schenker leaving etc. one that I’ve heard is chrysalis, their record label, did not promote them and promoted a band called “ The Baby’s “more. Interesting theory and may have some truth if you listen to a song off Obsession called “Ain’t no baby” which is supposedly the genesis of the song
There's so much good to say about Michael but I'll just limit it to suggesting that you explore the first five UFO albums that he played on. They speak for themselves. His tone and his phrasing are superb.
Definitely “Strangers In The Night” one of the best Live Albums Ever‼️💯🔥🤯 Awesome Reaction‼️👊🏼 Gotta do more‼️ “Lights Out” The Whole Album is 🔥‼️ Seen them several times in the 70’s Shenker was awesome every time‼️
Great choice and reaction> I have been waiting for this band.I grew up listening to them way back in the 70's and loved them then and I still listen to them. Michael Schenker is a guitar god. The band as a whole is so underrated. You should check out songs like "Lights Out", "On With The Action - LIVE Audio" and a newer offering a song called "Venus". Schenker influenced so many great guitarists like Kirk Hammett, Dimebag Darrell and Randy Rhoads. Again glad to see this reaction!
Glad you guys were considering all of the things I suggested I was actually kind of just changing it didn't expect you to think about all them but they're all good so now I'm real excited
Mick Bolton was the UFO guitarist before the GREAT Michael Schenker! Michael joined UFO, and wrote this song, when he was 19 years old! Schenker went on to form his own band, The Michael Schenker Group, and their first 4 albums are hard rock gold! Check out Lost Horizons, Looking For Love, or Into The Arena. Other UFO greats, try Love To Love, Lights Out, or Venus!
this album ,for a live album had not 1 not 2 but an unprecedented 7 tracks to go on the radio. the story is the band from england was at a gig in Germany. their lead guitar missed the flight so they had no one . schenker was playing w the opening band . they heard him. using an interpreter asked if he could sit in. he went in cold ,not knowing the songs and killed it. they immediately offered him the job.
All that superb playing with crystal clear tone and not distorted. Michael Schenker was an amazing guitarist in the 70s. Even second division rock back then would smoke the likes of foo fighters today
recommend "Cherry" and "Electric Phase" by UFO. They have many other really great ones. The albums are great to listen to all the way thru. You might find gold. "Try me" is a good ballad.
You got it. No one can touch Michael Schenker. The guys you got givin you names are elitists; they are wrong. They're probably also not tellin you about the dual guitarists from Thin Lizzy either. UFO is LEGENDARY. Classic rock radio missed them.
Michael Schenker was a member of the Scorpions along with his brother Rudolf Schenker and another absolutely overlooked guitar virtuoso Uli Jon Roth in the 70s before they settled on Mathias Jabbs for their biggest albums of the 80s such as Blackout and Love At First Sting. Michael Schenker played with UFO and then went on to a solo career with MSG. Check out Michael’s virtuous guitar on the Scorpions album Lovedrive, just awesome! Also it’s worth listening to Uli Jon Roth on the Scorpions “ Sails of Charon”, mind blowing opening guitar solo.
He's around 67 and is touring.- Rock Bottom going strong. There's a video from 2021 (he was around 66) He started Scorpions with his brother and their first album came out when he was 16 (called Lonesome Crow). He's been one of my favorite guitarist for decades. If you ever watch him live, he usually just uses 3 fingers on his left hand - rarely the pinky. Love to Love is a great song. Lights Out too
Michael Schenker is originally the lead guitarist of The Scorpions. He joined UFO at 16, because UFO opened for the Scorpions in Germany and their guitarist was ill, they borrowed Michael. Michael stayed with them for several albums till 1980, when he started Michael Schenker Group(MSG) The dude is the German version of Eddie Van Halen.
I've always had the impression that Michael Schenker and UFO were criminally underrated.(Heard of them long ago but have never heard any songs) The thing is because the criteria for those competitions is "Vote for the discography, not the song" I really doubt they would have made it very far. Of course, it does help Michael and his brother Rudy went on to form Scorpions...
Their albums were musically and structurally superior to many main stream band like Van Halen of whom outside of their 1st LP got rather poppy and commercial. Of course still good but commercial. UFO's 1st LP, Lights Out, Obsession and Force It. don't kneel to the music industry. They are phenomenal. First few Scorpion albums are also true artistic meanderings. They're not attempting to create a radio hit which later they did all the time. Yes UFO did have their more radio friendly songs too.
Michael replaced Uli Roth in Scorpions as well. (Joining his older brother Rudolph in that band) Of course, without the sonic clarity of the "LumberTron Microphone Array... none of this would have been captured with such pristine Burrell. As Hollywood mentioned Progressive music as we know it, was always full of wood.
All UFO from 1974 to 79 and all Michael Schenker Group and McCauley Schenker Group. He the greatest guitarist IMHO. Try Coast to Coast off Scorpions Lovedrive
“I hope this guy gives us a big solo” said Smokey at the beginning of the video…I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself and say out loud…”oh snap!..you’re about to get a big solo that you won’t soon forget all right!!” 😅
Great Kokina was Yokozuna's first ring name when he wrestled in Japan. His uncles were Afa and Sika, the Wild Samoans. He is related to Roman Reigns, Rikishi, Umaga and of course, the Rock, in fact were all cousins. And I think the reason he wasn't in the running was because UFO was more popular in Europe than here in the States.
I have the CD of this concert, called “Strangers In The Night”….if you’re only going to have one release from UFO, this is it…..so that’s what I did! Michael started with The Scorpions, along with his brother Rudolph…who stayed with them.
Best live album...The Rock Band's band....They are Rock and Roll...Fun watching young people discover great bands. Go see them live; they're in their 70's still rocking!
First concert: summer after 9th grade, 1979. Afternoon/evening concert with Pat Travers, UFO, Cheap Trick, and Blue Oyster Cult. Talk about a 15 year old's wet dream.
If you really want to be up on your history of metal/Hard Rock U.F.O. is essential especially those early days with legendary guitar maestro Michael Schenker, the flying V viking too many classic tunes to mention. They are one the early often over looked bands who along with bands like Thin Lizzy form the very D.NA.of metal but for a real deep dive you have to check out fellow German virtuoso guitarist Uli Jon Roth from the early Scorpion days an original super legendary classical shredder.
Bands that toured in those days played up to 330 dates a year live. They got to be extremely good at what they did. Ted Nugent, Skynyrd, AC/DC, UFO, Bad Company, ZZ Top, Foghat, Allman Bros.......all amazing
UFO had an equivalent guitarist to Michael Schenker when they did their first two albums and then he quit and UFO went through a couple of guitar players before picking up Schenker while on tour in Germany. Both Schenker and his older brother played for the Scorpions too.
Michael Schenker is one of the greatest guitarists in the world. Also check out Frank Marino & Mahogany Ruah .... Something's Coming Our Way, Requiem For A Sinner and He's Calling from the Agora Ballroom. A 6 hour, 3 set show of blistering playing. Also Johnny B Goode from the Live album. His version of Voodoo Child and Red House from Real Live. Frank Marino and Schenker are in my top 10 best list. Also Fleetwood Mac I'm So Afraid from the 82 Mirage Tour. Watch Lyndsay Buckingham shine. You'll leave with a different perspective of Mac. The clip where he's wearing the white cowboy hat. That whole show is smoking hot. I appreciate your appreciation.
All true hard rock and heavy metal fans know this is the greatest live album of all-time. 😉
It's quite likely....its an insanely amazing album....
Great album! I have it second to Deep Purple Made in Japan.
@@stevefitzgerald5183 SITN pisses all over MIJ
My #1 is Made in Japan by Deep Purple, but this is my 2nd favorite. Great album!!!
Tokyo Tapes-Scorpions
Their live album Strangers in the Night is one of the most satisfying albums to rock out to.
I remember when this came out. Nothing like it then and nothing like it now. Best live album ever. A very talented group of individuals that came together like no other.
You got it 💪👍
One of the first albums I bought
It is one of the greatest live albums produced.
Im gonna write that onto my list for records that i have to check out.
Schenker is my favorite. Classical training, fluid scales and shred with the best. Tone, speed, and feel!!!!
Check other tunes by UFO. Criminally overlooked!
"Only you can rock me", "Too hot to handle", Doctor Doctor, "Lights out"
"Too much of nothin", "Shoot Shoot".
Many more! Michael was the GOAT
no classical training just played when young the classic standarts timing an note choice
You can have your Vanhalens and Malmsteens this solo has more feeling and emotion than any hard rock solo I have ever heard and I have been to over 300 shows in my life and Schenker is still at the top !!!!
He is actually better now!
Hell yeah! And I ain't even heard the song yet!
MICHAEL SCHENKER IS THE MOST UNDERRATED LEAD GUITARIST IN THE PAST 4 AND A HALF DECADES BAR NONE.
Best Rock Guitar Solo of all time. AC-DC live gigs of The Jack have also awesome Guitar solos
I was at the Rush, UFO and Max Webster concert at Will Rogers auditorium in 1977. I was 17, drove my '68 Camaro and blasted a UFO eight track with a nickle under it to make it track right. Yep.
you da man
I used a pack of Tops
Lights Out is a must. Actually the whole live “Strangers in the Night” album is Amazing and the “greatest live album ever” according to Slash….and just about everyone who has ever listened to it.
Cherry is another amazing song. I cannot remember which release it was on though.
Clearly, Slash is a huge fan of Schenker. If I do say so myself, he's got good taste.
Michael is your favorite guitar player’s, favorite guitarist! One of Kirk Hammet’s main influences
Damn right!
Sadly for hammet, didnt got any ideas from him
@@ibaiarmendariz2780 Kirk is cool, I consider him a friend, but he is no Holt or Skolnick
UFO had a huge influence on Iron Maiden. UFO's 'Doctor Doctor' is always the last track that's been played before Maiden's live show starts. You should check out this song, then you'll certainly hear the influence.
Nothing more exciting than waiting around at an Iron Maiden concert and then you hear doctor doctor start to play

RIP Pete Way 2020
I was also at the concert at the Amphitheater in Chicago.. Awesome show!! Michael is most definitely one of my top 10 GUITARISTS of all time 🤘
In the USA.....UFO was so underrated, "Obsession" is still one of my favorite albums still
Exactly - no real solo's but Mogg and Schenker seem to meld into one.
Cherry!
Such a great band, Michael was a guitar genius from such a young age. Never saw him with U.F.O. but did with MSG and in this you can definitely hear both his own talent and the influence he had on Randy Rhodes. U.F.O. Lost a couple of members this last year, RIP. As posted above, the Strangers In The Night is probably the greatest live album ever.
One of the greatest live performances in rock history .... keep it alive so all the generations to come will know UFO and Michael Schenker.

Michael Schenker is one of my top 3 guitarist. Seen him 20 times in Concert. He should of been on your list. He's a LEGEND !!!!
Got into this band after listening to “Space child” by them. Got recommended on Spotify and I loved it instantly!
Quite possibly the most melodic rock guitarist of all time.
“Love to Love” is my absolute favorite by these guys, you guys should check it out if you get the chance!
In case you didn't realize, this is a LIVE performance!
We ancient Rock fans fondly remember these boys. That guitar was unique and powerful. These blues were blues based for sure.
Also, guys....he's still rocking like a madman
"Doctor, Doctor" is one of my favorite riffs of all time.
Schenker was the equivalent of a high school senior when he recorded this song. He is a true prodigy and his work in the 70s is legendary
Epic solo... takes you to outer space and brings you back to earth. Love it.
I had the same reaction 50 years back love seeing you keeping it alive

Another great guitarist from the 1970s was Rory Gallagher.
And another great Irishman Gary Moore !
i agree so much with both of these comments
Rory Gallagher. The G.O.A.T..
Check out anything from the Assault Attack album. His solo project MSG Michael Schenker Group

'I wonder if he just riffed that?' Nope, he plays it exactly the same, note perfect to this day.

Schenker left and they replaced him with Paul Chapman , who , I find to be an incredible guitarist as well (maybe not the virtuoso Schenker was ) but I love the four albums he was on and Mechanix and The Wild Willing and the Innocent are incredible albums
Anybody that followed rock back then probably is aware of UFO and even love them all my friends did and have no idea why they weren’t bigger.
Definitely “Strangers In The Night” one of the best Live Albums Ever‼️💯🔥🤯 Awesome Reaction‼️👊🏼 Gotta do more‼️ “Lights Out” The Whole Album is 🔥‼️
Seen them several times in the 70’s Shenker was awesome every time‼️
Schenker brothers are who badass guitarists listen to for inspiration.
One of the greatest rock guitar players ever
Wow, one of the best reaction i've seen. You guys are hillarious!!
🦋U.F.O's ''Doctor Doctor'' Is Also A Stellar Classic Jam.🤘😉
You can pretty much always tell which one is Schenker, he's 99% of the time only playing a Flying V guitar!!
So glad you guys picked the live Strangers in the Night version over the studio one
This is for your grandma!!!😂😂
All that superb playing with crystal clear tone and not distorted. Michael Schenker was an amazing guitarist in the 70s. Even second division rock back then would smoke the likes of foo fighters today
recommend "Cherry" and "Electric Phase" by UFO. They have many other really great ones. The albums are great to listen to all the way thru. You might find gold. "Try me" is a good ballad.
Studio version guitar solo is one of the best solos ever. Builds slow, layer upon layer.
You got it. No one can touch Michael Schenker. The guys you got givin you names are elitists; they are wrong. They're probably also not tellin you about the dual guitarists from Thin Lizzy either. UFO is LEGENDARY. Classic rock radio missed them.
UFO- Lights out
Love to Love
Are other GREAT songs from UFO.
Strangers in the Night is one of the greatest live albums of all time!!!
You need to do "Lights Out" and "Love To Love", also from the Strangers In The Night album.
Mike wrote this when he was 17. He still nails it in his 60's.
Michael stayed with them for several albums till 1980, when he started Michael Schenker Group(MSG)
The dude is the German version of Eddie Van Halen.
Before evh, so the other way round... if evh could compare,
Captain Nemo by MSG is an epic guitar instrumental
I've always had the impression that Michael Schenker and UFO were criminally underrated.(Heard of them long ago but have never heard any songs) The thing is because the criteria for those competitions is "Vote for the discography, not the song" I really doubt they would have made it very far. Of course, it does help Michael and his brother Rudy went on to form Scorpions...
Ufo was better than the big time bands. Screw the big time band's. They take a back seat to UFO!!!
Wrong he was in Scorps before UFO and has occasionally drifted back and forth over the years as well as on his own.
Perhaps the greatest guitar solo in rock history.
Guy's he is still crushing it here in 2023. You can find it again live in 2023 under MSG (and think about how much older Michael is)
His lead tone was unreal.
Jerry Jones came up via Oil and Natural Gas Exploration.
Btw, Need some more Steely Dan up in this piece :)
The Blonde Bomber. Amazing! Thanks for reacting to UFO! My all time favorite band.
First concert: summer after 9th grade, 1979. Afternoon/evening concert with Pat Travers, UFO, Cheap Trick, and Blue Oyster Cult. Talk about a 15 year old's wet dream.
One of the most Bad Ass Hard Rock Songs on the Planet
Michael Schenker and Rudolph Schenker from the Scorpions are brothers
It's a 'kick you in the nuts' song,,,, and probably the most underrated riff of all time...
Good job, you picked the right version too !
Those two first UFO álbuns are incredible but kind of progressive rock. Nothing to compare with later hard rock UFO songs
When Michael entered this band's lineup he changed it completely. Totally different sounding band
Put Michael on stage with Eddie Van Halen. Schenker will wipe up the stage wirh him.
