    thanks for the showing. I made holes in a can with push pins, then I took sharp point end scissors and put them into the push pin holes and moved the scissors in a circular motion to make holes. it worked

    Greetings from England. Love the simplicity of this stove, much more stable than beer can stoves and that you can simply place the pan/kettle on top. Genius. Nice no-frills presentation.

    Thanks for the idea. Have made many Cat Can, and aluminum beverage can stoves. Impressed by the way that you've adapted the cat can concept to tuna cans. I believe that the principle can be carried a bit farther by using a canned chicken, or potted meat tin if an even greated diameter is required, for larger pots ... thanks for the useful video ... Cheers.

    I’ve watched a lot of these videos and I like yours the best. Its better than just a cat food can and alcohol but not as complicated and difficult to make as many “garages engineers” make them to be.

    This is so much easier than the "precision engineered" Foster beer can or soda can stoves. IOW, this stove is not only sturdier, but within the limits of my patience to make. Thanks.

    Was wondering what if you make the holes After insertion of the cans? And you won’t need to worry about alignment and redoing the drills.

    so if the holes have to line up don't drill the side holes until after assembly. that way they will line up with no duplication of effort and the assembled stove will be a more sturdy thing to drill into.

    • @All_Things_Out_Doors
      @All_Things_Out_Doors  7 років тому +13

      George B. Wolffsohn your right but when you try that the inner can folds because of being flimsy tin when the drill bit hits it. I'm sure someone who uses a drimmel or maybe more skilled could have managed that but for me the effort really wasn't that strenuous. :-)

  • @rosewood513

    You can just drill the holes after they are compacted together, it will be stronger to drill through. I also put some cotton balls or any 100% cotton fabric in side. That works great if you will be traveling so it doesn't spill... Nice video thanks.

    Hi a little tip,pack some fibre glass will inside of the stove,that way the alcohol will be absorbed into the fiberglass wool,and stop it from slushing about inside the stove on the move,and also saves the alcohol that is left inside the stove after use by not wasting it trying to pore it back into a container after being in use.

    • @IronHexacyanoferrate
      @IronHexacyanoferrate 2 роки тому +1

      Actually your tip is even better than just preventing the fuel from sloshing, since it’ll also prevent a potential explosion caused by alcohol vapours combusting very quickly.

      you can also use the rope that you sometimes find for sealing the doors on wood burning stoves. It won't burn, can handle the high temperatures and will absorb the alcohol so it will not slosh around.

    • @xenaguy01
      @xenaguy01 4 роки тому +2

      However, it also prevents you from recovering unburned alcohol fuel. You can't pour alcohol back into the bottle if it's soaked into some kind of filler.

    Search for penny stove they make them out of soda cans. It’s really easy it’s got alcohol in it. You can put insulation in them to hold the alcohol. They tend on leaking if they fall over. It’s an easy fun way to make one.

    Interesting design but as another commenter suggested. Drill the holes, at least for the inner can after it is inserted. Also the obvious question. Most backpackers, which honestly is the biggest reason for using an alcohol stove, are concerned about weight. Why on earth would you want to carry an over sized and in the case of the one shown, very heavy pot?

    Very creative use of tuna cans for a more stable base. Just wondering two things and please bear with me, as I am New to making these: 1) if super cat 🐱 stove is open on top, is the advantage of being closed on top top aid in stability? 2) what is the smallest size diameter pots can this stove accomodate ? Thank You very much for sharing this information

    • @All_Things_Out_Doors
      @All_Things_Out_Doors  7 років тому +1

      Bradley Mann I don't know that there is any advantage on Burn time. The main cause of putting the can inside as a top lid was really strengthened up the side walls; Tin bends extremely easy. If you look at the pot I put on top of the stove at 55 seconds I've actually used that stove and pot combination it works pretty well. But for wider pots that are out there a wider base seems to be way more stable.

    An alternative would be a Fancy Feast type tuna can stove - that's the one where you insert a somewhat smaller and taller can inside to act as the stand, and fill the gap between them with wicking material. The Fancy Feast is a good balance between efficiency, safety and ease of use, and it works exceptionally well in the cold. So it's become a favourite of many experienced users.

      I imagine it could work. I'm not sure how well. You may want to try a few test runs with it....maybe use a grill top for a safer test area. I would recomend seeing how long (and how much fuel) it would take to boil water in your test.

      @@All_Things_Out_Doors . Thank you for the reply. I have since found a video where someone demonstrates the danger of using lighter fluid. So I'll have to use the lighter fuel for what it was designed for lol.

      Any alcohol stove will take 6-10 min to boil 2 cups (475 ml) of water. Depends on outside temp, wind, etc.

      Sounds similar. I don't know the exact formula for denatured alcohol so I dont want to commit to its description. I primarily get a gallon of it from any local hardware store. It does work well and burns super clean

    • @ARCSTREAMS
      @ARCSTREAMS 5 років тому

      @@All_Things_Out_Doors how much do you pay for it? one time several years ago i bought a gallon of methyl hydrate(ie methanol) at home depot for around 8 buck if i remember right or could have been less,im looking it up now and its $10.29 but i think its a good deal at 8 cents an ounce and it works great for my soda can stove and other needs but maybe pure ethanol(if that is what denatured alc is) might be better or safer to use indoors,,but i still got most of the stuff left after all this time too,,have a look at this video for stove fuel comparison ua-cam.com/video/Mt69fbNhCgs/v-deo.html

    • @xenaguy01
      @xenaguy01 4 роки тому +2

      ARCSTREAMS
      Yes, denatured alcohol is ethanol with methanol and/or other compounds mixed in to make it undrinkable. You can use straight ethanol (Everclear), straight methanol (yellow bottle HEET is 95-99% methanol), or any mixture of the two (denatured).
