I just picked up a 158.16012 in mint condition! It's very similar to the machine I learned to sew on and grew up using. I definitely needed a refresher course to make sure I remembered how to thread it correctly, it's been at least 40 years since I've done it! Thank you very much!
The one thing I admire about you is that YOU TELL IT LIKE IT IS. I'll take my 158-1941, 158-1802, and 158-1430 over anything, including my Singer 500a.
Indeed. The hardest thing to accomplish is to convince the machine buyers of today that flashing lights and beeping sensors aren’t inevitably necessary to have a good sewing machine. They often have to find out for themselves. 😎👍🏼
I'm using larger spools from Wawak so I have them set on a thread stand behind the machine. When I initially thread the machine 158.14001, all is good going thru the thread guides on the top, but after a bit of sewing, the thread jumps around and comes out of the front thread guide and loops around the thread guide neck, not going through it any longer. What causes this? Not enough tension on the thread?
I had to google what a 15x1 needle was (I'm a newbie) and found out it is now called a style 2020. Thank goodness, because my used machine came with a whole boatload of style 2020 needles hahahaha. Just checking that they were the right type.

Thank you, I just discovered your channel and was watching your video on the 158s and you seemed to favour some more than others. I appreciate your very detailed information. Funny, my mom's 158 13510 is mine now, she passed away this year and can't show me anymore how things work on it.

My thread take up doesn't move and the needle doesn't show any signs of life. Is there a way to fix this? Like a knob to turn or wd40? Everything else seems to work?
@@Alex-zp4pb if your thread take up assembly moves up and down, the needle has to move, as they are attached. The needle actually coordinates with the take up assembly movement. Maybe you’re referring to some other part or assembly.
Ya, the needle shows no signs of life and the thread take up is almost welded into place. Like on other machines I can move it and the needle goes up and down with it but not on this machine? Also sorry, I did put does. It was a typo but I fixed it.

Hello, I don't know if model numbers vary from USA to Canada, where I live, but I'm wondering what you think of the Kenmore 158 17012. Thank you
If it’s a :
1) front load
2) 15 class
3) Kenmore 158 series
The 158.17012 fits all those requirements.
