    What’s always fascinated me about the rusty junk yards like this is that every vehicle there has a story. Maybe that tow truck rescued your grandfather from the side of the road once when his old dodge broke down; or that station wagon that once took your parents on beach trips when they fell in love and got married; or that car your favorite aunt who passed in the early 80s got for her 18th birthday. They all have a chapter in someone’s life. It’s just pieces of us scattered about and forgotten.

      I was thinking about how all those were once brand new at one time, coming off the assembly lines and in show rooms across the country.

    • @sierrawhiskey5155
      @sierrawhiskey5155 5 місяців тому +9

      I was thinking similar! Each car is a fusion of engineering and Art. A talented artist sketched and teams sculpted every one of those vehicles, inside and out. A huge room full of Draftsmen standing at their Drawing boards documenting parts and assemblies. Sheet metal Die-makers puzzling over how the panel can be formed. Passionate debates in smokey Boardrooms in the 70's discussing which layout of the Headlights will maximise sales. Accountants shaking their heads at suggestions of more chrome or trifles like seat belts.

      Well you are looking at a snap shot in time of what cars you would have seen in the area at certain times in history, who knows how many times those cars passed each other on the road, and somewhere in someone's photo album could be a picture of one of those cars.

    I grew up in Indian Mills NJ.... the school bus at 11:41 is my school bus from when I was a little kid (Mid- 1970s). Mrs. Brown drove that bus for many years, and I rode it for many years. The bus is Meredith Bus Services, Number M122....It should be an International Harvester.... my dad worked for them too and drove M119.... That really took me back.... Cool it still exist, sad that it's going to be crushed.... bought back lots of memories.

    When I moved to TN and into the country I was getting eat up with ticks and chiggers. An old farmer told me to just spray my shoes, socks and pant legs up a little higher than the weeds I was walking in and it keeps them off. Worked great. I keep a can of OFF in the door of my truck and in my shop. Saves a lot of itching and aggravation.

      OFF is the WD-40 of lubricants. Permithrin if you actually want to keep ticks and chiggers from getting you. PB Blaster and Kroil if you need a good penetrating fluid.

    As a kid in the 1960s I went on dog trading trips with my dad. Many of his hunting buddies had garages and junkyards. I used to pester him asking what kind of car something was. I just knew one was different than another. Being 6 years old and having an empty and growing brain I learned and remember everything. Still have that knowledge to this day. Few people care, but I do. If I were to win the lottery, I would buy a huge warehouse, hire the best restoration people and rescue as many as I could afford.

    $185,000 for all that scrap? Absolutely insane. He's going to end up crushing it all for $250 a ton. The pick n pull around me also thinks their junk is worth solid gold - wanted $150 for a non-powered mirror off a 2006 uplander.

      @@MattsRageFitGarage Still, you aint going to find rare gems unless you climb through some dirt & rust.
      Seems like a lot of those cars head lights, grills, & bumpers could get cut off as a whole & welded onto a swing gate property entrance for a lot of rural people with properties like this one.
      Often the address & similarity of the lots in rural areas, makes it difficult for friends & family to find the place.
      And even with GPS it can be a pain for them, if their cell provider doesnt have a local tower.
      So for Example "drive into Ding Dong, coming from W. Route 66, take a left on BFE road, and drive til you see the blue 56' Ford Fairlane front end." Could be helpful directions & money maker. Also let guests know, by comparison, if their truck or car will fit through gate. Might get fancy and add a house remote or motion sensor with switch & battery to light the headlights, when your friends get close, cause their aint no street lights out in the country.

I knew it as soon as I saw the S&S tow truck within the first 2 minutes of the video . Great guys there, motorcycle enthusiasts. Place looks a lot more grown over than I remember. Thanks for the nostalgic tour of these beauties; as others have stated, the small car near the beginning is a Crosley, built narrow to fit thru doors at hardware stores, where they were originally sold. Model CC, as someone has pointed out...The later engines, the CIBA (Cast Iron Block Assy.) replaced the CoBra engine, and later became the basis for a line of outboard motors (Fageol "44", Crofton, Homelite, and finally Fisher-Pierce)...
    Indeed, "Jennings" would have a ball here! "We've got a nineteen-something so-and-so; this ol' girl's been sittin' (40, 50, 60, 80) years..." And he'd have most-all of 'em running by the end of the video!

    Thanks for the Jennings Motor Sports nod. Funny, I just thought of his channel as you scanned the oldies. Be cool for you two to shoot a video together.

    A walk through history is what I call this one Chris. Where do you find these places? Imagine what it must have been like walking through used car lots in the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s
