  • So kids, what have we learned from today's history lesson? Well, Britain's relationship with its colonies and dominions had all the signs of an abusive relationship if it were between humans. Here's our friend Riz Ahmed beautifully developing this theme. • Riz Ahmed - The Breaku...

      @@WhiteCamry He does. Which is a truly impressive feat. I think it's that the actor playing King George III gets to go full villain reveling in his villainy for the song.
      I mean, we can take a historical perspective and say George had mental problems, and also, having never been to the colonies, had no clue or understanding about the practical conditions the triangle trade and the taxes were creating, and that lack of understanding is why he acted as he did. But in the end, this is probably one of the most accurate bits in Hamilton.

      @professorbutters 11 місяців тому +2

      @@jenniferhanses7064Well, and also Parliament was responsible for most of the really crappy stuff. New York actually put up a gilded statue of him, which shortly thereafter was melted down for bullets. Also, he was pudgy, interested in farming, and never dressed like that except for his coronation portrait, but other than THAT, totally accurate.
      It doesn’t matter, because George III, the tyrannical mad king who wears silk and eats babies for breakfast is a powerful part of American mythology. It’s a way a young country defined itself: what we are is not like that. Also, it’s really funny, but accurate, no.

    This King George 🤴 has a better grasp of the character and that the song was intended to be a break up letter to America than some of the other actors, but it doesn't have the charm and dramatically kinky subtext of obsession like Groff's version. Nor does it have the sass and playfulness. Groff's portrayl is just so amazingly perfect. Like clearly Groff really understands the meaning of the song and connects with the character on a whole other level to all the other actors. You feel that obsessive, crazy love when Groff sings it. Groff also just has such amazing vocal technique that he manages to make seamless and look natural but is actually very highly technical and tricky.
    It is a wonderful song that has so much history, culture and meaning in it with such a boppy catchy tune. While other actors do great performances of it, Groff just absolutely nailed it to perfection.
    It is my absolute favourite of all the songs in Hamilton.

      @@nancyhallatr You are missing the point...in concert a performer can bring their own stamp ... in a show the performer has to bring the performance that the author director and sometimes the originator of the role brings ..yes they can add to this when then can and they do... my point is that its a live and ongoing process and the negativity as many do on You Tube can be damaging and missing the point - also frankly a display of arrogance that a single point of view has to be agreed to and not open for discussion . To me he is not "Imitating Groff" he is performing the role as the author -director - etc want in the show.
