Been watching your channel for a while now and it's very useful stuff, so thank you. I'm starting training this year so I'm taking as much in as I can! I've got a 5 hour car journey next month, and having the ability to avoid trips like them and instead fly, would be a life changer. Look forward to the next videos =]

Thank you for the kind comments. How are you getting on with your training? Yes, hopefully I will release some more videos soon!

Doesn't take long does it by air. And I never knew there was a microlight strip at Water Eaton!👍😊 Thanks for sharing 👍😊

It's literally a 20 minute flight, but takes almost 2 hours in the car! Thanks for watching

@@CJThePilot Flying is amazing isn't it. But takes a lot of prep and, of course, us wx dependant 🤔😊😊

Enjoyed that Chris, the air looked super smooth and lovely landing. I was based at an international airport for over 20 years and although it could be a pain as we always seemed to get put to the back of the queue whenever there was commercial traffic it also had lots of benefits one being confident dealing with ATC, that showed in this video. Thank you for the share.

Thanks Terry, really appreciate the comments. It was very smooth that day, just a bit dreary with the cloud. Yeah to be fair I'm used to operating alongside the commercial traffic and that has definitely helped me in a lot of ways. I always attempt to plan and conduct my flights looking for decent gaps in the arrivals, but most of the time you just accept the flow as it happens!

Very good … beautiful example of how to fly the trip! Two small builds on your radio for when you do your CPL: it’s “Roger” not “Wilco” when responding to Kemble’s requests to you when airborne … they’re a FISO and as such can not give you instructions when you are in the air ! When you contact Bristol Tower the correct standard phrase is to “request join.”

    • @CJThePilot

Ha! It's funny because literally the second I replied "Wilco" I was really annoyed with myself and could hear your voice in my head correcting me!

If a FISO asks you to report leaving the frequency, report crossing the M4 or to report final etc, the correct response is 'Wilco', it is only a request and not an instruction. CAP 413 confirms this!

@@jetsetJon I only recently came across this on re-reading CAP413 as this very question is now asked in the PPL Comms exam. You are quite right as to what is in CAP413. I do think CAP413 needs amending.
My original advice came from an ex BA 747 training captain with forty years experience. He was particularly concerned with RT at Kemble where pilots were requesting particular joins and the FISO appeared to be “granting” them. Clearly this is not safe as pilots can be lulled into a false sense of security on the service they are receiving.
This is where his contention, with which I agreed, stemmed from. Wilco, means “I will comply with an instruction “. It therefore places the FISO in a position of authority that they don’t have over airborne traffic. They can request aircraft makes a report but they can’t order it.
I completely agree that CAP413 is written to suggest the opposite.
I believe CAP413 should be amended for the reasons above.
However you are quite right to call this out and you are of course correct in what you say as to how CAP413 is written.

Do you fly with SD? If so is it on knee board or mount?

    • @CJThePilot
      @CJThePilot  Рік тому

Yes, I do indeed fly with SkyDemon and I use it on a mount.
