Very nice job Arun! You make maintenance on my 2007 Bluetec so much easier! I just did my front brakes after I watched one of your UA-cam videos on front brake replacement ... and it was a snap! I went ahead and changed the rear brakes and the first one was a total bitch because it has a Tork bolt that cannot be seen. Once I figured that out, and got the tool, it was pretty easy. In fact, the first rear brake pad replacement took me 3 hours and the second rear wheel took me about 10 mins.

Arun, Thank you for this video, it is most helpful. The bolts actually require an E type socket. Most tool companies make them, they are a torx but internal instead of external. If you do a search, they are readily available and if you encounter a stubborn bolt, they will be required for removal. Thank you again for your efforts!

    Hi,
Thanks for the video. One comment: The sensor is water sensor, not the the water separator.
"Many fuel filters contain a water sensor to signal to the engine control unit or directly to the driver (lamp on dashboard) if the water reach the warning level."

I have, but didn't make a video of it. The trick is that you have to pull the entire filter box upwards (after removing a couple of screws, I think), and it just comes out. I struggled for hours trying to get the lid off with the box still in place, and then realized that it was quite easy. HTH.

You're most welcome. Good to know about the rear brake -- I'll keep that in mind when I do mine!

Thanks. The service DVD says "water separator" in at least one place, but water sensor makes more sense.

Hi Arun, your video was very well done and greatly helpful as a result. I wonder if you have replaced the engine air filters as well, and whether that is something an amateur should even attempt. I do have experience in successfully changing air and oil filters on BMW, Toyota and Subaru.

Glad to help. Replacing the air filters is easier. I forget the details, but the thing to remember is that the plastic filter boxes pull up and out entirely after you remove the couple of fastening screws on each side. It takes a fair bit of force to get them out, but they do pull out.

I don't, but I do have the Star Service DVD and would be happy to look it up for you.

Hi Arun, thanks for posting your videos on the E320 CDi. I've got a C320 CDi with the same OM642 engine. Dont suppose you've changed the air filters yet? I'd love some instructions on how to. I've looked everywhere! Cheers, Dave.

Fuel filter on my '98 e300 takes less than 5 minutes... Looking at your engine bay makes me worried about doing any work myself if i was to buy a newer diesel.

Do you have anything on how to change the air filters on the same bluetec car? thx!

I don't have a video, but I did do it once. If I remember right, there's just one or maybe two easily accessible screws that you have to remove. At that point, it looks like the filter box won't budge, and you'll be tempted to reach down and try to remove the lid screws. But you don't have to. The box has two plastic pegs at the bottom which sit tightly in rubber grommets, and all you have to do is to pull upwards on the box quite firmly and it just comes out. And (of course) there are two filter boxes, one for each cylinder bank.
      Hope that helps.

I imagine that you got your filters changed already, but in case your car has been sitting for 3 years, Check this out: Now, I only know the diesel filter for the R320 but my motor looks very similar to this one. Try find this UA-cam clip: ua-cam.com/video/qUQydxbE7hY/v-deo.html

I did this job today and it was fairly easy. To me the nasty part was to put back the air ducts. Does someone knows an easier way to do thi?

It's worth a shot. My Bluetec has been gone for 9 years now, so my knowledge is quite blurry.
