It is not difficult sir... it is simple. Burke is not here. He's gone and he's the better for it. He's winning the Harper Avery award and being celebrated all over the world. That is not difficult. He's out there and I'm here where everything is the same. I still live in his apartment, I walk the same halls of this hospital, I wear the same scrubs. It is not difficult. This is where I chose to be. But sir, when his hand was shaking, I performed the surgeries, I kept his secrets, I nursed his pride... you know it and I know it, he knows it. He knows it and yet nowhere in that newspaper article does my name appear. I am the unseen hand to his brilliance. And yet while everything is the same it is very, very different. Now I'm lucky if I get to hold a clamp. Hahn treats me like... I was his hand and now I'm a ghost. That is not difficult... it's unbearable. Everybody is proud of him... but I'm not... I do not wish him well.
I will never understand how Sandra Oh did not win Emmys etc. every single year she was on the show. Every year, no matter what the rest of the season was like, she delivered flawless acting like this.

I felt that too. There are those unspoken connections sometimes in the show that make the acting so brilliant.
I can’t explain it, but something about her saying “I do not wish him well” makes me feel better about feeling that way sometimes, even though it makes me feel kind of petty

This hits so hard, I cried when I first watched it, she was the backbone of his surgeries for so long and she never got credit! And when he left she got treated like crap from Hahn and it’s so relatable

She should have won. She was great as Christina.
The best actor on Grey's without a doubt was Sandra Oh. It blows my mind that she never got an Emmy for her work on Grey's.
It also seems to me that after 10 seasons on the show, Cristina never loved a man like she loved Burke, not even Owen. It's a shame that he broke her because he was the only one who understood her.
there is always that person you love the most, the person you do everything for, the person you compromise the most with, and that's the person who will break you the hardest. You never love anyone like that again, it's not a bad thing, it's just you learn how to protect yourself.

I can't believe this had happened to me in real life. The unseen hand [brain] to his brilliance [success]. I couldn't resonate with this scene, with Cristina any more than I already do.
What makes the scene better is the fact there's no music. Grey's is notorious with choosing the perfect song for the scene but I'm glad there wasn't any here.

i’m coming back to this after a year and my god, cristina was running around the hospital trying to keep his secret, almost abandoning her own career for the sake of his, even marrying him. but NOT ONCE, have i heard burke said ‘thank you’ from any surgery. his ego was too big for her. he could not accept that it was what had become of him and he probably never saw her be the same level as him until a decade later when he heard she was nominated for the harper avery.
by the time he was doing okay, cristina was losing her identity, forgetting who she should be instead of another man’s hands.

One of Christina's best scenes
First time I ever watched this scene, I HAD TO replay it 4, maybe 5 times. I said, "Maaaan......... Sandra Oh is just stellar."
In the episode, the nurses strike Dr. Sloan because he had one-night stands with each of them. It started to get out of hand when they refused to work with him and it impacted his ability to do surgery. The hospital's board required everyone to sign a paper listing any sexual relationships with any other hospital employee.

their whole relationship was so toxic. him pushing her over and over again to do things she clearly didn’t want to do and her being so in love with him that she couldn’t speak up for herself. he asked her to marry him after a few months, not years, months. just a horrible character and i’m glad he left.

Unpopular opinion: Christina saying “I am the unseen hand to his brilliance” confuses me. Preston Burke was already great long before Christina came along. Sure, she helped him during the phase of his tremors and she deserved credit for that. But to say that she is the reason behind his brilliance makes me feel infuriated for some reason. Even when they were in a relationship I felt that she treated him like a child. I don’t know, this whole things just does not sit well with me.
She was right to never sacrifice herself for men again like what did that ever get her? Not even a Fucken thank you from him or a mention in his speech ?
She dated men in power for the exact reason of getting ahead.

Why did she have to give her sexual relationship with Burke to them again?
Because despite him having left, the hospital would still be liable if any legal issues were raised regarding their relationship. So anyone in the hospital who had a relationship with a coworker had to declare it on the form to clear the hospital from any legal liability.

this show went seriously downhill after they let go of burke and the way they did it was sad as heck. all the burke and christina fans till this day still hurt by that shit i couldn't even get pass season 3... they were the BEST actors on that show not even grey, THE STAR could compare to them! she couldn't stand a chance! i liked them more than her and mc dreamy, their chemistry was on FIREEEEE makes me wonder if they messed around behind scenes as well. i love them.....
True, but much drama happened behind the scenes and they decided to let Isaiah Washington, the man who played Burke go. They did ruin his character, his and TR Knights's, the man who played George.
Bullshit!!!after all these years I stumble upon this scene and it makes me so mad.In this particular scene Cristina is a very bitter and jealous woman who was dumped at the alter.Everything that happened between Burktina was mutual.He never forced her to keep his secrets or lie for him.As a matter of fact she was the one one that said to him"no one has to know "when she found out about his tremors.Everything she is...Burke thought her..She is a badass surgeon because of Burke.Forgive me I don't agree with Cristina on this one,she blew it with Burke and he dumped her,even though he loved her so much.i am a Burktina fan.💔😡
Constance Nwaokobia I think something you didn't mention was that Burke was trying to mold Cristina to be something that she wasn't. Every step of the way in their relationship he kept pushing her to give up little pieces of herself until she found herself standing in an alter with shaved eyebrows because she was trying to please him. She was trying to be what he wanted and that's incredibly demoralizing when you think about it. You're dating someone who doesn't love you for you but for who they think you should be. She lost herself in that relationship and then he leaves her as if she meant nothing to him. And to add insult to injury he goes on to do successful things and be celebrated while she's left there feeling like a nobody. She's resentful of him and because of that she can't feel anything for him but contempt. Maybe she thinks he got everything from me but he will not get my congratulations. He won't take that from me too. It's very deep what she's going through here. Very poignant performance by Sandra Oh.
Constance Nwaokobia I agree. Christina is good because she had an awesome teacher who gave her oppurtunities to learn. She was above the curve, however, with another tutor she may have been great, but not extraordinary. She kept his secret for her benefit, so that she can perform the surgeries that HE would have walked her through. True, she is the unseen hand that aided his success, but it was a brilliant mind that guided thise hands. Even without Christina's help, Im sure that he would have been very successful, probably a little later after his tremor was corrected. Christina's problem is that she has always kept pace with Burke, a surgeon who could teach her at her pace and her level. Now that he's gone, she back in the slow lane, ahead of anyone else, but still with limits. And it is driving her nuts
Constance Nwaokobia Burke was manipulative and idealistic, everything she learned that made her the amazing doctor she is came from Teddy, she was her best teacher, not to mention Cristina was amazing for her level way before Burke. Manipulation isn’t consent. You must truly hate women to be this cold hearted and judge mental. Not all of us like to take it lying down and let our husbands control us, Burke was an asshole who much like Owen didn’t accept Cristina but created a version of her that he wanted and expected her to bend to his wants and become that, to sacrifice her self worth and who she is as a person to become who he wants. Stop romanticizing Burke. He was manipulative and a prick.
Christina is only at the level because she sleeps with all her attendees. Notice how with when Burke left she rained off all the lady Cardio surgeon. Then alone came Owen. Then she expacts them to put her in on all the surgeries they are in.

When his hand was injured she preformed all of his surgeries for him and let him take the credit so nobody would know. If she hadn't done that, his career might have ended either waiting for his hand to recover or he would make a fatal mistake in surgery on his own. Cristina is right.
He didn’t give her a small gesture of “thank you” at all. You may say that he gave the Institute to her as a “thank you” but doesn’t excuse him for the unfair treatment of Cristina. Also Cristina is not the type of person to ride the “cocktail” of another Doctor to success. She wanted to be the best, Burke was her role model. We see that during the time she left Seattle Grace to work at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. We see her do that when she decided to leave own to pursue her dream to become great.
