Part of the reason why I loved the character of Cristina Yang so much was because a lot of her most emotional scenes weren't about relationship drama so much as they were about a woman reckoning with her goals and dreams and realizing that some people were holding her back (lovers, teachers) and she had to let go of them. Cristina never lost sight of her goal of being a kickass heart surgeon - that was her driving motivation throughout the series and all her relationships took a back seat to that. And she wasn't shamed for it or painted as this weird unnatural woman! I think I'm just now realizing how meaningful that is to me. In a world where women are still expected to have nothing but marriage and children as their ultimate goals, we need characters like that.
Here's the thing it was nothing wrong with her decision to just be about her career. In Christina mind both Owen and Burke was supposed to be just about sex. She never loved Burke the man, she loved Preston Burke the surgeon. She was willing to marry him but not have his kids. She told him in the beginning that all they had in common was medicine. He fell in love with her anyway and wanted to marry her and overlook her flaws and ambitions. Owen she actually loved him and told him that she loved him more than she loved Burke. She told him that she didn't want to love Owen because she knew what all that entailed and she wanted to stay focused. If she was honest here and told Owen listen I don't want kids and I don't see a future with you outside of this hospital having the nice house and kids and dog then their relationship wouldnt have been a waste.
Because it wasn’t true? This speech fell flat to me. Lying for Burke was HER idea. If anything- she took little pieces of Burke during their relationship. I love Cristina but she’s difficult to love and Burke tried his hardest. So did Owen.
Lanae Dailey i think she meant she wouldnt have done that but her love for burke made her do it, and now she realizes how wrong that was. not that burke had her do the lying on purpose
@@drlanae you clearly missed the part where he also wanted her to be more like the 1950s bride and have a big wedding and his mother and her mother chipping away at everything she wanted. And as the other person said she was lying FOR him and he went along with it. As her teacher he didn't encourage the right thing and he didn't have the balls to speak up. This is all coming from someone who actually loved burke and cristina, their relationship was flawed in the worst ways.
Burke was- He took something from me. He took little pieces of me, little pieces over time, so small I didn't even notice, you know? He wanted me to be something I wasn't, and I made myself into what he wanted. One day I was me Cristina Yang, and then suddenly I was lying for him, and jeopardizing my career, and agreeing to be married and wearing a ring, and being a bride. Until I was standing there in a wedding dress with no eyebrows, and I wasn't Cristina Yang anymore. And even then, I would've married him. I would have. I lost myself for a long time. And now that I'm finally me again, I can't. I love you. I love you more than I loved Burke. I love you. And that scares the crap out of me because when you asked me to ignore Teddy's page, you took a piece of me, and I let you. And that will never happen again.
No character in the history of Grey's Anatomy has ever been written better than Cristina Yang. She never sold Owen a dream, she made it clear that she didn't want to be a mother. Not that she wouldn't be an amazing mother but that's just not the life she wanted. I always loved that after Burke she never let her love life supersede her goals "Don't let what he wants, eclipse what you need. He's very dreamy, but he is not the sun. YOU are!"
She isn't saying that she never loved Burke. She isn't saying that what they had wasn't real or doesn't mean anything but hindsight really is 20/20 and once you have been out of a situation long enough you begin to look back and see all the cracks in the foundation you missed at the time. She slowly changed everything she was trying to be what he wanted, not because he forced her to, but because she wanted him to want her. Him letting her go was his way of showing his love. He saw what she couldn't; that she was becoming someone she didn't really want to be, and so he walked away. Honestly she and Owen wound up having the same problem in the end only he didn't have the strength to stay away so Cristina was the one who set him free. That freedom is always bittersweet because it aches and you feel so lost without them because you don't know who you are without that person anymore. She didn't trash the relationship. She was just honest about its flaws. Also love the way she mentioned the having no eyebrows.
I can see what Cristina meant about Burke taking pieces of her in Season 3, especially when she was lying for him and doing his surgeries. But in Season 2, it felt that Burke had to drag her kicking and screaming through just basic relationship stuff. Giving her a key to his apartment, asking her to move in, having Thanksgiving with her friends, even just having breakfast as a couple. Every time Christina would complain and gripe about all of it. Its one thing to compromise yourself for someone, which I think she did for Burke in Season 3. But throughout most of Season 2, she refused to open herself up to Burke beyond sex, hence why he had to push her into opening up even a little.
C.C. Ekeke I’m not blaming Burke in any way, and neither is she. Cristina was an incredibly guarded individual who came into Seattle Grace determined to be on her own and it took a lot of consistency on Preston’s part to make her understand he loved her and had no intentions of being pushed away. He didn’t *ask* her to change who she was. She just didn’t know how to be in a relationship and still be her. Honestly, I think she had the same problem with Owen. When it comes down to it, Cristina is drawn to men who want things that she does not want and that always seems to be their undoing.
Thissss. I loooved Burke and Christina together but he wanted a more conventional woman, and tried to make her into that. And Isaiah Washington is gross but was truly amazing as that character. Owen is cool too though.
I hate Owen. Especially later when they divorce because of her not wanting kids. She made her goals clear. U agreed, u just thought she would change and when she didn’t you got mad
exactly she told him no kids later he kept pushing it and made that the reason why they divorced no its because you didn't listen to her and respected her boundaries of not wanting kids.
Both Burke and Owen said "Why won't you let me love you" to Cristina and the meaning of the words were that their egos could not stand the fact that she refused to let them turn her into something she wasn't and put herself aside for them and their needs. I always liked Cristina, a strong woman who refused to play the second violin and searched and found her own way!
The chemistry between these two is unreal. And Sandra - she blows my mind. Her acting dexterity is limitless. Owen and Cristina are, in my opinion, the most versatile and heated, not to mention passionate couple Shonda has ever created. And she was able to do this with two amazing Actors. Grey's won't be the same, never.
this guy is not that good of an actor Isaiah is way better actor and you can see the unbelievable chemistry he and Sandra had just look at seasons 1.2 and 3
Ed Myles - i agree, he horrible. Kevin Mckidd sucks as an actor and it got to the point I wouldn't watch a scene if he was in it which ruined Christina for me and she was my favorite character.
She's Christina yang. She's really really hard to love and when she does she doesn't want to lose herself during it. She pushes people away when she starts to love because she doesn't want to lose that one thing in her.
Both men have this image of having a strong minded woman as a wife but they still have to be The Man and Cristina doesn’t fit that world view bc neither Burke nor Owen could ever accept her choices
C Goriah that's pretty sad they seem to ruin all the good relationships Mark and Lexie,Stephanie and Jackson,Callie and Arizona,Christina and Owen they were all wonderful couples and they were destroyed the only couple I have now is Meredith and Alex
1montrealfan Mark and Lexie got together in death in the end I suppose. I hated Stephanie and Jackson but adored Callie and Arizona and was so upset that they had to break it off given the fact that they had a child and were happily married until Arizona kissed another woman and Callie ended up with the woman who in my eyes killed Derek. Cristina and Owen I loved however I admire Cristina for doing what was best for herself, and even though Owen has moved on with Amelia, I believe Cristina will always be the love of his life.
I know how this feels, having someone that takes parts of you without noticing because you love them so much that you would change yourself completely to the point of not knowing who you are just because of them... And then they leave you...
I think that's why she's so hard to love, and to love back. Because she knows what it feels like to love someone and them leaving. She doesn't want that. That's why she is the way she is. Reasons why she is my fav character.
I think the "taking away of pieces" went both ways in their relationship. There were many times when Cristina made Burke compromise his principles - when he made him question Sydney Heron in the OR, when he covered Cristina for erasing Bailey's name, when he allowed her to operate for him to cover his tremor, etc.
Exactly. I am surprised at how the interpretation of their relationship is so one dimensional. Except for the last couple of episodes of S3, which made the actor's exit evident, I never felt Burke tried to change her. The last few episodes were really off, for Burke's character. There was no point in ruining his character. If there is no give and take in a relationship then what is the point of being in a relationship!? He was okay with her no wearing the ring, getting married in the city hall and suddenly he thinks she was joking!!?? Sad way to ruin the story, they could have killed him instead.
Agree, both of them adjusted and that's my definition of perfect couple. It's just in the S3 I felt like they ruining the character of Dr. Burke. There love for each other is forever.
@@rinidmoronit was so strange cause Burke is a man of his word. So, for him to agree to Cristina’s request to have a small wedding then go ahead and do the complete opposite was so out of his character!! Then laughed in her face when he thought she was “joking.” I was in disbelief.
The difference between Owen and Burke was that no matter if Burke didn’t agree with cristinas decisions, he understood her, especially when she wanted to get an abortion. And he loved her enough to let her go, Burke LOVED Cristina. Edit: I also didn’t like how he forced her to talk about Burke. She should not have to talk about anything she wasn’t comfortable talking about
@Lucy Armstrong I mean yes there are things that you should tell your partner. However that doesn't mean they are entilted to know every detail, ever thought, ever secret in your life. For example there is a big family secret in my mom's side of the family that I wouldn't tell my partner not because I don't trust that said partner but because that said partner doesn't need to know the stuff that mom and her family have gone through.
I don't like Owen, but I do think he was better for Cristina than Burke. Burke was never willing to let Cristina flourish the way she wanted to. You can even argue what we saw with Owen/Cristina's marriage would have happened with Burke since Burke did want kids. The difference is Burke wanted Cristina to hold her career back for family whereas Owen wanted her to want both. Owen also knew how much Cristina's career meant to her and wanted her to succeed in it. IMO Owen will probably always be the love of Cristina's life, not Burke.
@@haileyparsons3844 does the secret have anything to do with you? Will it impact your relationship with your partner? If not, then you have no reason to tell your partner. If the answer is yes, then you should. You need to know about your partners past relationships, especially those that alter who you are as a person. How will you judge how this person will be in a relationship... Burke was a pivotal moment in Cristina's life and shaped how she views and does relationships. It's only right he knows...
@@sadiyahg-n3101 she did care to an extent, she didnt break down in tears for nothing. i just think she felt guilty about it and feeling relief that she didnt have to have an abortion
One of my all time favorite scenes. The acting is fantastic, the music is perfect. Christina's delivery was perfect- the determined, tear-choked voice at the end, the little pauses, the slight slurring together of words - it's so clear that it's hard for her to talk about, that she just wants to be done talking about it but that she will thorough even if it hurts because she doesn't do anything half way. The almost-smile in her voice when she says "Burke?" suggests that she's handling the situation with just a hint of the dark amusement that she carries within her, that she uses later to handle Owen's betrayal after he trips in the bathroom and she can't stop laughing. Even though Owen doesn't speak for the second half of the video, his facial expressions speak volumes, especially the way his eyes continue to soften. When he hears Christina say "he took something from me" his face begins to slacken, concern replacing frustration - and perhaps regret too, realizing that he is getting what he asked for at the price of making Christina dig up painful memories. He looks almost like he wants to take it back, not only to relieve any pain of hers but as if it just occurred to him, from the thoughtful tone of her voice, that he may not want to hear this. Because she has put a lot of thought into the risk of getting hurt again - and she may still be weighing whether or not love is worth the risk. His face really shows his slow realization that Christina has just cause to be afraid of her love for him. What a scene.
As someone who knows that feeling all too well, there’s nothing more terrifying than realizing you are capable of doing it again...that giving pieces of yourself away is the only way you know how to love...
She is a human with feelings. She isn't a robot. She loves her partners and her career but just chose her career. She is strong and nobody can change her but her
I can relate to Christina, soooo much. She knows what it's like to have someone take something from them. You change when you're with someone and I don't think she wanted that anymore. She didn't want any of it. But she fell in love. That's what love does to us. So she lost herself and she doesn't want that. And now that she is back to herself, she loves Owen but she doesn't want what happen with Burke happen with Owen. Because you can see by her emotion it broke her, it really broke her & she really did lose herself. That is the reason why she is hard to love/pushes people away and the way she is. She's an amazing character and I hate that she left because she made the show honestly. She made it with her sexiness with her emotions and with her honesty. Sandra oh, I hope to meet you one day.
this makes the scene where she finds out burke had left their apartment in season 3 so much more meaningful. when I saw that scene the first time I just thought she was having a emotional reaction but now I went back and realized she said "I'm free" and immediately wanted to get the jewelry and wedding dress off of her like she was really setting free from what he wanted her to be. amazing
Christina is my favourite character by far!! She has always the best lines. She can seem cold harted, but actually she's very aware of her feelings, and she can be very empathetic. And she's funny too ^_^
@Merrylikechristmas I agree. What Burke and Christina had was real. I like her with Owen better but they don't have to trash her previous relationship. No lie though, despite what the actor said, he did a great job as Burke and I miss him on the show.
Its 2 in the morning and i am watching this because i realized today that someone is taking something from me just like Cristina and tried to remember who sad that and where and now i watching this, this is so real for a woman that loosing little pieces of yourself without noticing and you look back you cannot recognize yourself anymore, such a powerful scene
I think that every person that has fallen in love has given pieces of themselves... we let them take those little pieces without notincing it... we just lost ourselves eventually...
Maybe its just my opinion but I think ppl stress too much about how people change in a relationship for each others too much...everyone of us change around people we like, we change for many reasons and many aspects in life. Yes she changed for Burke, but she also changed for Mere, she also became softer and caring because having friends required her too do so. I do know about wether Christina's change was good or bad, but I know people change not only for others but for themselves too, and this self determined part is often being neglected.
I like the the indication that she was suddenly wearing a ring as one of the things that wasn’t “her” cause if you go back to the first seasons when burke proposed, christina specifically said that she doesn’t do rings and even gave back the ring to burke
Christina might've ended up loveing Owen mkre then Burke and stuff... but to all you who are saying Burke was bullying Christina Intl stuff and all that...like really? did you watch the show? I agree that in certain times of their relationship it would've been considered toxic (like When Christina dis his surgeries for him) but that was on both of them. they both loved eachother SO much yet they wanted different things in their relationship... even Derek had to do some pushing with Meredith because she was a little iffy with that stuff too. the difference, Derek stuck around to work it all out. and if it wasn't for the actor I wonder if Burke would've too. I actually liked Burke's character a lot, outside of Christina and his relationship. and I wish that even if that hadn't ended up together they wouldn't have fired him. But back to the point, they did love eachother, and people change people, its a good thing, not a bad thing and with love you have to sacrifice what you want sometimes... Burke should've sacrificed mkre for her I agree.. but I don't think he was "bad" for her. I think they could've easily made things work and have a fantastic relationship if they hadn't fired the actor and they chose that path. cuz I like Owen, I do, and I like their relationship, but I'll always ship her with Burke more
The problem with burke for me is that burke had more power in the relationship. Back then christina was not as experienced both in her job and emotionally. Burke had most off the power in the relationship. Like she said she lost herself to him. At this stage in her life she knew when to draw boundaries. She knew when to put her foot down. I knew burke loved her but at that time in her life it wasn't for the best in my opinion. Derek was very different with mer. I didn't feel the imbalance so much with them. Maybe because both der/merwhere very different people. But in any case I have always loved theae different relationships.
I love Christina Yang . There is a talented ambitious woman , who is scared of compromising her career because of love life in all of us. It's relatable because no one likes to pick up the shattered pieces of your own persona. Soul-work is the most difficult.
Its sad how the writers potrayed Cristina and Burke's relationship in this scene. And after she said she did this for him she did that for him, making her say she loved him is even more sad. Now I feel, she never loved him.
I agree. Anyone who watched Greys knows that Christina was crazy in love with Burke. The fact that the writers tried to say she didn't love him that much seems like an f *** you to Isiah Washington.
despite how tragicly beautiful this scene is, i cant help but smile when she says 'standing there in a white dress with no eyebrows' she needs to win an emmy :-)
@royallly What Jerry meant to say was that Cristina had taken a huge risk for her career to help Burke. And what hurt her most was when Burke got the Harper Avery Award, he did not even mention her in it. Even though it was her idea, Cristina gambled her career (something she valued more than life itself) to help the man she loved. It was probably the most noble thing she has ever done. ANd I'm not badmouthing Burke; IMO, he made Cristina grow into a much better person.
I agree with her to a point...after the whole TR thing they started writing burke a bit differently as if to make us not miss him when he left and yes then he took pieces of her...but their original relationship was more a battle of wills (refusing to talk first; that really funny one where she holds his scrub cap hostage) so i agree overall but i wish they hadnt change burke's character
Burke also compromised on many things for Christina.. "Took pieces of me" that thing was from both sides in their relationship but unlike owen he loved her enough to set her free instead of fighting everyday for babies that she made clear in the beginning she'll never have..
I know damn well Cristina loved Owen. Believe me, telling someone that another person took small pieces of your soul and admitting that you’re rebuilding yourself is one of the hardest things you can ever admit. So for someone like Cristina Yang to do that is the epitome of vulnerability.
“Im trying to love you why wont you let me.” I can still vividly remember that Burke also said this to Yang When he learned that Yang didn’t really give up her apartment
This speech hit home for me. Despite being a strong, ambitious woman, I am a doormat in a relationship. I love people so deeply that I will do anything for them and it does feel like losing pieces of yourself. The worst part of it is that you don't notice it when it first happens and it is not the man's fault. It is so natural to want to please someone you love that it often happens naturally, to both men and women.
I can totally relate to giving little pieces of yourself up. I did that with my ex. And I only barely noticed. I'm glad he had enough sense to break up with me. Although the way he did it was not ok. Then 6 months later he apologized for all the wrong reasons. And I'm still healing from that relationship still finding myself, like Cristina had to.
I recognized that line as well. I was wondering why the writers didn't incorporate the deja vu into Cristina's monologue so it was clear that the line triggered something in Cristina leading to what she told Owen.
Old comment, I know, but IMO, it didn't need to be emphasized. The monologue is all about explaining to him how what he did was just like what her ex did. I think that was all the emphasis it needed. If the viewers remembered the connection, great! If not, the scene still worked.
Because it was obvious. Owen mentioning Burke before saying that line makes the parallels very clear. Even if the audience doesn't remember, they can see that Cristina is struggling with the same things...
You know, I'm gonna get a lot of backlash but why is the man always the damn villain? He took pieces of her, but honestly, she kinda gave them freely. How many times did Burke ask Christina if she wanted to end things? How many times did she SEE what Burke was? Oh and she wanted to cover for him, it was her IDEA. Yes, Burke did shitty things, he didn't give Christina credit when he won the Harper Avery, he sometimes pushed her away when he didn't understand her, or her ideals on spirituality, veganism, or her constant need to be the best. Those are things Christina didn't give him, or atleast things she thought he wouldn't care to know. Burke, mostly took Christina as is. And in the end, he did the BEST thing for her and let her go. Owen didn't. He drug things out, he knew she didn't want kids, but tried to con her into having them. He blamed her, cheated on her. So, who really took pieces? Idk. Maybe I'm just tired of the victim mentality. Take responsibility, it takes two to make a relationship.
Wonderful writing beautiful scene... After Yang tells him she loves him and that she is not going to sacrifice herself for love they are both still there looking each other in the eye conforting... Very special
He was... he took something from me. He took little pieces of me - little pieces over time, so small I didn't even notice, you know he wanted me to be something I wasn't, and I made myself into what he wanted. One day I was me, Danu, and then suddenly I was lying for him and agreeing to be in a relationship with him and starving myself. I couldn't recognize myself I didn't know who I was. Until I was standing there in the middle of the room with no clothes on and agreeing to be intimate with him, because i was afraid of how he is going to feel if I didn't do it. And I wasn't Daniela Dragu anymore. And even then, I would've stayed with him. I would have. I lost myself for a long time, and now that I'm finally me again, I can't. I love you. I love you more than I loved him. I love you. And that scares the crap out of me, because when you asked me to act like a normal person, to stop stressing about stuff or to feel love towards other people you took a piece of me, and I let you. And that will never happen again.
This is why I loved this season so much. Christina was well and truly Christina again. I liked her relationship with both Burke and Owen, however the relationships were both toxic in different ways. With Burke, he truly understood Christina's passion and die hard love of surgury and that's what made their love so intoxicating they both are the most passionate people they know. Ultimately, Christina nails it when she says that Burke took little pieces of her and in later seasons she realises that the best thing Burke did was leave. For me Burke and Yangs relationship always seemed to have Mentor/Mentee feel to it which meant Burke always felt like the boss in the relationship. Then Owen comes around and he and Christina for the most part are on equal fitting as far as dominance in the relationship. I always felt like Owen understood Christina as a person and her emotions as well as their relationship being a lot more emotional despite the fact that both of them are hesitant to show emotion. Owen understood and listened to Christina and took the time to at least try and figure her out. He was was quick to understand Christina and Meredith's relationship and embrace it instead of getting mad about it like Burke did, he even embraced it quicker than Derek did too. But Ultimately, Owen couldn't get the fact that Christina's true love was always and will always be surgury. Ultimately, no one could truly and completely understand Christina apart from Meredith. Christina was such an important character for me to see in my teenage years. An independent woman who loved her job and didn't apologise or feel guilty for putting it first and never doubted herself.
sandra oh is a temendously talented actress. i loved how she explained why burke wasn't right. i feel like so many shows there are these epic couples and then they are just done even though they loved each other. i'm really glad she explained with a good reason. great writing and an excellent performance.
TheSmartds27 actually the other way. Burke accepted Cristina the way she was but Cristina loved him so much she was willing to change certain habits of herself for him. However Burke never tried to change her or her nature. Owen on the other hand did since the very beginning and that's why their relationship was far more disastrous
LoL Owen doesn't like anything about crisitina. He has been trying to change her since the beginning and he guilt trips her for not changing. Burke tried to change her too but he gave her space to make her choices. Owen wants Cristina to not be Cristina.
+queenlandings B. I totally agree with you and may I add the other guy played Cristina and the other doctor against one another Burke gave Cristina a chance to walk away from the relationship three Times
Everything that she says about her relationship with Burke is true. How she talks is really how people talk about their exes. They downplay the relationship or talk trash about their ex so they can feel okay about the fact that its over. Burke bullied her all through the relationship and kept giving her ultimatums. Watch the episodes, you'll see. I think he would have succeeded where Owen hasn't. He would have bullied her into having kids. Their breakup made her stronger.
I never saw bullying I saw a man who knew he was with a strong woman who put her to the test. I think it was more of a thing where Burke wanted Christina to be like him, so he was as hard on her as he was on himself. In their final scene together Christina tells Burke that she wanted to "be him". She just didn't have enough time with him to learn how to do that, if she had she would have begun to push and challenge him as much as he was challenging her.
But he let her go so I don't think he would have bullied her if he knew she didn't want it deep down. Burke's love for her ultimately was stronger than what he wanted.
Ok frist of all bruke didn't ask christian to lie for him...she wanted him to be ok n she was getting in on all the surgery...she wanted to keep it a secret
Burke said: Why won't you let me love you". So when Owen says: I'm trying love you, why won't you let me, there..... Christina burst into emotion the talk about it.
I agree with you too I miss those two as a couple but I am sick and tired of people saying that her and me and only character hadn't got more chemistry that is total bull this guy is one of the worst actors I've Seen On TV Isaiah Washington is a way about it and it showed in season 1 2 & 3 that the two of those people had unbelievable chemistry between the two of them and everybody that system. Say is that they didn't of people that just don't like them and because of some that he supposed to say it to another active and got fired from when from what I understand the fight was between him and Patrick Dempsey from what I heard he didn't call the other guy that there was a fight between him and Patrick Dempsey and the other was nowhere around they wanted to best actors on the show and those were the two best characters on the show and they was acted by two actors that are real good at what they do for a living and it shows in all three season that he was on there alongside her
I love this scene, makes me cry. I don't want her to be with Owen, honestly, I feel as though he only brings her down. Cristina is driven by her career; he loves her, he should see that. But he doesn't.
@chikki323 it wasn't for a stupid reason, even if I agree there´s no need to "punish" the character. But I do think Owen´s love for Christina is more genuine than Burke´s was, and vise versa
Hermione Wilson 💙💙💙
Goodness! This is everything!
And we need less characters like Owen...
Girl you’ve nailed it
Here's the thing it was nothing wrong with her decision to just be about her career.
Sandra’s acting was incredible! She did an interview saying that this scene was one of the hardest to film because she couldn’t connect to it.
Ay do you have a link to the interview? :)
I want the interview too
Because it wasn’t true?
And that scares the crap out of me because when you asked me to ignore Teddy's page, you took a piece of me, and I let you. And that will never happen again.
TheBlondeBanana I love this!

I have never felt a speech more than I felt this one.
@@juliiouus96 I liked reading along while watching, this was awesome Debbie downer
YOU are!"
THE ACTING! SHE'S OUT OF THIS WORLD!
Very welcome. :)
TheCjma88 m.;. Aaaa?aaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I agree but im pretty sure the main reason for the divorce was the lawsuit.
exactly she told him no kids later he kept pushing it and made that the reason why they divorced no its because you didn't listen to her and respected her boundaries of not wanting kids.
I hated them as a couple, Owen was an ass and being with him ruined my enjoyment of Christina.
@@gaiainbar2851 he still slandered her for the kids part, and even if it was just bc of the lawsuit he should have said something.
Exactly. Can't stand him.
Grey's won't be the same, never.
this guy is not that good of an actor Isaiah is way better actor and you can see the unbelievable chemistry he and Sandra had just look at seasons 1.2 and 3
Cherlyn Van Der Weele I feel this in my soul!
Ed Myles Kevin and Sandra are unbelievable together!
Ed Myles - i agree, he horrible. Kevin Mckidd sucks as an actor and it got to the point I wouldn't watch a scene if he was in it which ruined Christina for me and she was my favorite character.
i literally hate owen
"I'm trying to love you, why won't you let me?"
I just realized, Burke said to her the exact same thing on the second season!
Burke said i love you, why wont you let me? He was sure that he loves Christina
Burke: i love you. What the hell is wrong with you that you wouldn't let me?
Owen: i'm trying to love you. Why you wouldn't let me?
😭😭😭
She's Christina yang. She's really really hard to love and when she does she doesn't want to lose herself during it.
She pushes people away when she starts to love because she doesn't want to lose that one thing in her.
What episode was that
The first time i saw that i was like OMG
Both men have this image of having a strong minded woman as a wife but they still have to be The Man and Cristina doesn’t fit that world view bc neither Burke nor Owen could ever accept her choices
That’s the thing. They’re not trying to love HER. They’re wanting to love what they want her to be.
1:13 Owen says he'll be irrelevant in 3 years. which is what basically happened.... 😭😭😭
C Goriah that's pretty sad they seem to ruin all the good relationships Mark and Lexie,Stephanie and Jackson,Callie and Arizona,Christina and Owen they were all wonderful couples and they were destroyed the only couple I have now is Meredith and Alex
+1montrealfan Alex and Mer arent a couple xD (and hopefully never will)
1montrealfan Mark and Lexie got together in death in the end I suppose.
LOL Reading this 3 years later after you commented
@@1montrealfan they destroyed that too 😁😁😆😆
I know how this feels, having someone that takes parts of you without noticing because you love them so much that you would change yourself completely to the point of not knowing who you are just because of them... And then they leave you...
I think that's why she's so hard to love, and to love back. Because she knows what it feels like to love someone and them leaving.
She doesn't want that. That's why she is the way she is.
Reasons why she is my fav character.
Gaslighting at its finest. Sadly to say I've lived this too.
Burke had to leave Christina she was toxic.
@@Jannbright24 like he wasn’t lol
That's me, lol 😅
Owen's love life is soooo exhausting. Be single please.
Sandra was brilliant i miss her so on the show
I think the "taking away of pieces" went both ways in their relationship.
Exactly!!
She should not have to talk about anything she wasn’t comfortable talking about
Ya I also think that too. Your partners past should
Just stay in the past.
@@keniaumana7220 How can you possibly bond with your partner if you don't share the details of your life and emotional experiences?
Christina should of told Owen about losing her baby with Burke here. Maybe the topic of children could've been handled alot better.
no cause she ain’t care about that baby she was gonna abort it anyway
Oooh yes would've been interesting

This is to the point
As someone who knows that feeling all too well, there’s nothing more terrifying than realizing you are capable of doing it again...that giving pieces of yourself away is the only way you know how to love...
This is so poetic. You really have a way with words.
So true her acting was incredible and she made this show so realistic
I love how Sandra consistently plays Christina as an ugly cryer.
this makes the scene where she finds out burke had left their apartment in season 3 so much more meaningful. when I saw that scene the first time I just thought she was having a emotional reaction but now I went back and realized she said "I'm free" and immediately wanted to get the jewelry and wedding dress off of her like she was really setting free from what he wanted her to be. amazing
Owen and Cristina were really toxic. The trauma bonding angle really messed with them.
The acting, 100
The dialogue, 100
The music, 100
nah dude some people just don't want kids and that should be ok
fr
"i'm trying to love you! Why won't you let me?" oh my god ... owen and burke said almost the same thing to her!!
That's right 😃. There were like magical spells to summon Cristina's inner heart.
What a great actress!!
Actually, I think she still loves Burke by saying this
I think she will always have a place in her heart for him. Same with him, he admited that he still loves her but is not in love with her.
what a great christina moment
I think that every person that has fallen in love has given pieces of themselves... we let them take those little pieces without notincing it... we just lost ourselves eventually...
I love how she explained everything to him.😊
Bring Preston Burke back to the show.
they did for like two episodes
Maybe its just my opinion but I think ppl stress too much about how people change in a relationship for each others too much...everyone of us change around people we like, we change for many reasons and many aspects in life.
Yes she changed for Burke, but she also changed for Mere, she also became softer and caring because having friends required her too do so.
I do know about wether Christina's change was good or bad, but I know people change not only for others but for themselves too, and this self determined part is often being neglected.
+amoyer c if the person wanted to change, fine. She clearly didn't.
I think they could've easily made things work and have a fantastic relationship if they hadn't fired the actor and they chose that path. cuz I like Owen, I do, and I like their relationship, but I'll always ship her with Burke more
Victoria George .
But in any case I have always loved theae different relationships.
exactly
I totally agree.
Definitely. Dr. Burke and Dr. Yang They are like the Yin and Yang they balance each other.
She never said she didn’t love Burke
That was clearly throwing shade at the actor. That line was unnecessary.
despite how tragicly beautiful this scene is, i cant help but smile when she says 'standing there in a white dress with no eyebrows' she needs to win an emmy
:-)
@royallly What Jerry meant to say was that Cristina had taken a huge risk for her career to help Burke. And what hurt her most was when Burke got the Harper Avery Award, he did not even mention her in it. Even though it was her idea, Cristina gambled her career (something she valued more than life itself) to help the man she loved. It was probably the most noble thing she has ever done. ANd I'm not badmouthing Burke; IMO, he made Cristina grow into a much better person.
Such an intense scene. Truly heart-wrenching and incredible.
He pushed her way to far..In the end she lost her brows and nearly her identity too..
My heart didn’t sign up for this and yet I’m still here watching
Burke also compromised on many things for Christina.. "Took pieces of me" that thing was from both sides in their relationship but unlike owen he loved her enough to set her free instead of fighting everyday for babies that she made clear in the beginning she'll never have..
I know damn well Cristina loved Owen. Believe me, telling someone that another person took small pieces of your soul and admitting that you’re rebuilding yourself is one of the hardest things you can ever admit. So for someone like Cristina Yang to do that is the epitome of vulnerability.
“Im trying to love you why wont you let me.”
I can still vividly remember that Burke also said this to Yang
When he learned that Yang didn’t really give up her apartment
Whenever I wanna see any scene/clips/video about Cristina Yang. THIS IS PROBABLY MY FAVORITE OF HER.😁😁😁👏🏿.
I love her. I miss her. ALWAYS! 😄😄
This is one of my absolute favourite scenes ever. I love this. So strong and deep, amazing. I get goosebumps. Thank you for sharing this here!
'that... will never.... happen.... again'
The fact that I resonate so much with Christina right now... This hurts
As a gay man, I guess I can relate to Cristina, the fear of intimacy.
That will never happen again. -There. You’ll know how painful Burke hurt her with that line.
Bien dit

My fav scene in GA.
cristina and burke will always be my favorite
He was... he took something from me.
This is everything.
The most heartfelt crying I've ever seen!!
This is why Cristina (and Bailey) are my favorite characters!
God this scene is so beautiful
sandra oh is a temendously talented actress. i loved how she explained why burke wasn't right. i feel like so many shows there are these epic couples and then they are just done even though they loved each other. i'm really glad she explained with a good reason. great writing and an excellent performance.
Owen is better than Burke. Owen let her be her self.
and then accused her of killing his baby. twice.

Almost 15 years.. Cristina Yang will always been an ICON. Oh God I love her so much! ❤
this scene always amazed me.. but every time i watch it i cant take it seriously when she talks about having no eyebrows.. 😂
Eu amoo Cristina Yang, Sandra Oh é extraordinária! Merece, não só um Emmy, mas um um Golden Award, perfeita! Owen é muuito Gatoo!
Burke and Cristina FTW.
This is one of the most powerful scenes in all 8 seasons of Grey's Anatomy, in my opinion.
Ok frist of all bruke didn't ask christian to lie for him...she wanted him to be ok n she was getting in on all the surgery...she wanted to keep it a secret
I love this scene
Christina and Burke will always be my top ship
I cried so hard when I first watched this bc I related to what Cristina said of someone taking pieces of you...
Burke said: Why won't you let me love you".
So when Owen says: I'm trying love you, why won't you let me,
there..... Christina burst into emotion the talk about it.
Burke and Cristina...I miss them.
Say is that they didn't of people that just don't like them and because of some that he supposed to say it to another active and got fired from when from what I understand the fight was between him and Patrick Dempsey from what I heard he didn't call the other guy that there was a fight between him and Patrick Dempsey and the other was nowhere around they wanted to best actors on the show and those were the two best characters on the show and they was acted by two actors that are real good at what they do for a living and it shows in all three season that he was on there alongside her
Crhistina Yang, you queen
i felt that it was a big mistake when Burke left his chararecter was vital in this show anyone agrees
Background song ??? Would anyone let me know ?
I love this scene, makes me cry.
I don't want her to be with Owen, honestly, I feel as though he only brings her down. Cristina is driven by her career; he loves her, he should see that. But he doesn't.
@chikki323 it wasn't for a stupid reason, even if I agree there´s no need to "punish" the character. But I do think Owen´s love for Christina is more genuine than Burke´s was, and vise versa
This scene touched me so bad
@Grrrstin I couldn´t agree more, she is absolutely amazing! this scene still makes me tearfull!
What is the background music name?
Nothing will ever top her and Burke. I wish things would have worked out
One of the best scene of cristina yang !!! great job sandra !!!
