      The collective disappointment of the knife community hearing that probably almost gave him a nosebleed. I'm not even much a steel snob but Chinese 7Cr really? Is 420HC too expensive, or even 8Cr?

    I dont understand how buck stays in business. The classics are great (love my 119 and 112) but every time they're like "we have something new and exciting" it's always something that everyone else has been doing for years in an outdated steal and they charge an arm and a leg for it. They're like the Windows Explorer of knife companies

      I've heard people who are knife reviewers actually rave about certain knives done in 7cr, I think it all comes down to the heat treatment. I highly doubt Buck which is known for their heat treats would put a blade that doesn't hold a edge on a $60 msrp knife. I don't care for the knives but they have to pass QC to get the Buck name.

    I’m seeing a lot of complaints about the 7cr, what about 420HC on a $800 buckmaster??

  • @Rruns26
    @Rruns26 7 місяців тому +5

    As a Buckmaster owner and huge fan, I’m disappointed in what they are calling a Buckmaster. It’s nothing like the original Buckmaster. If I saw that knife sitting on a table, the word Buckmaster would not come to mind. Either bring back the 184, or do something that truly pays tribute to the knife. Something that resembles the original, other than the name. And price it reasonably. What I see with fixed blades (this is why the Topps table is always busy), prices above $200 start running off a lot of buyers. I’ve bought a lot of Topps knives in the $120 to $140 range.
    I saw someone posted the 2.0 price is $800. LOL! No thanks. A nice looking tribute, maybe $400. And he kept calling the knife a dive knife. The original was never marketed as a dive knife. I have a collection of vintage and new dive knives, none of them look like the new Buck. It’s very confusing what Buck was trying to do here… And very disappointing.

    • @charliedontsurf7360
      @charliedontsurf7360 7 місяців тому

      Yeah, they should've just re-released the 184, if they were going to re-imagine it the least they could've done to pay homage to it is utilize the exact same blade shape/design, cross guard, and make it full tang this time around in a modern steel.
      Should've made 3 models.
      One limited run EXACTLY like the old ones, but in updated blade steel.
      And a re-imagined version as I previously described, same blade shape, cross guard, but full tang handle.
      One new re-imagined model smoothe, with flat spine.
      And one new version with sawback spine.
      Whatever that abortion they are calling a "Buckmaster" is a travesty.

  • @geico1975

    Oh yeah, I've been anticipating DCA's take on Buck 2024:) I will already say this the newer EDC's with 7CR steel is a jaw dropper IMO, why not 420HC? JEEZ! I'm more excited about Buck's fixed blades myself.

    • @fancyhitchpin8675

    • @John5.56
      @John5.56 6 місяців тому

      420 is a bottom of the barrel steel as well. I can’t understand why such a legend of a knife maker continues to put out such garbage. If they sold their popular knives in 420HC as a budget option that would be one thing, but the majority of their blades are garbage as far as modern knives go and if it’s anything better than 420hc it’s ridiculously expensive just because of the name. But to each their own I suppose.

    Proud Buck owner here; (105, 119, 124, many 110 and 112's) Gotta say, the Buckmaster was and is a joke. In the 80's a friend bought one with the intent of serious use. He found the saw back ineffective as a saw. When he dropped his knife, the tip broke off. Buck replaced the knife. Gee thanks, I'd rather have a serious knife, not a fantasy knife. The replacement sat on his shelf until he sold or lost it.. The grappling hook is farcical. Get out of mommy's basement, Buck designers.

      Its 60's predecessor, the 122 Nemo shipped with a card explaining that 440c was used because softer, higher chrome steel like isn't tough enough.
      Nearly 60 years later that soft steel is almost all they use.
      I'm sure Mr Bos is as good as it gets, but saying you've got the best 420hc heat treat for a hard use high dollar knife is a lot like saying you're the healthiest person in the ICU. It isn't impressive.

    Give me the Alpha Guide 663 in 420HC with the G10 scales and the Kydex sheath. 420HC is the best steel for field use. It's cheap, tough, highly corrosion resistant, and dead easy to sharpen. You can keep the expensive exotic crucible steels.

    • @ynniv333
      @ynniv333 6 місяців тому

      I can tell you've never used Mangnacut. If you're cutting up your big game, your 420HC will get dull before you're done... Mangnacut will stay sharp. It also can be easily resharpened in the field unlike other CPM steels.

    Buck is huge part of what felt me up with the love bug..... falling in love w knives!!!!
    But today.... unless you just love the 119 110 etc... so many other companies offer better for less.
    I still own and use acouple nithawks.... but they're so behind on times. Any brand w out A NAME like buck or case... just would not be a conpany.
    Read comments buck... make changes. Or be the change.... which is sadly gonna be change as in GONE

    That updated Buckmaster is a major disappointment! Buck obviously doesn't understand the appeal of the REAL Buckmaster. It's not supposed to be practical. Think, Rambo knife replicas, or better yet, the legendary and still, extremely popular and sought after, Randall Made Knives, Model 18, Attack Survival. It has a round, hollow handle. A modern day, REAL Buckmaster, with improved steel and some minor tweaks, would have been a best seller. Buck Knives, YOU BLEW IT!

    That new Buckmaster should not share the same name with the original.
    It should be named Mallmaster.
    It looks like something out of a BudK catalog.

    They never said the 7cr knives where they are made. I smell imports. Buck needs to step up the steel in those flippers. No reversible pocket clip on the stainless steel give me a break.

    Just bring back 184. For a company whose bread and butter are 110 and 119, they sure don't get what the majority of consumers want from them.
