So any happy memories of these games. Can’t remember the names of some, but off the top of my head, Super Cobra, Caveman, Sub Chase, Blip!, Scramble, Missle Strike, and the DADDY that was Astro Wars! Happy times
I first saw this at school in 1981 Australia and just had to have it. That Christmas my mother got it for me. In Australia it was released by a company called Gakken. I still have it today as well as my brothers. They both work perfectly. Recently I was lucky to find a couple brand new in the box unopened and just had to buy them as I never kept my original box from back in the day. I have them displayed in my study with another 80 or so vintage electronic games. It's just amazing how I was so facinated by these games as a 10 year old and now in my 50's I still love them. Simple games with a little imagination and they beat the latest games for me.
I got the white CGL Galaxy Invader version of this in the early 80's and loved it. My brothers also got the Bambino UFO Master Blaster and Entex Space Invaders. The Entex game quickly became my favourite though as it was the closest thing to the real arcade Space Invaders and I was always trying to sneak into my brothers bedroom to borrow it without him knowing. I still have all 3 of them and they all still work perfectly!
A lovely trip down memory lane. I never had one of these, but I do remember them. I personally had Astro Wars, which looked a bit more like a cabinet. I played on that thing for hours and hours.
I vaguely remember wanting a 'Space Invader' game to play at home, and this was what I got. I've played an Astro Wars but never actually owned one. I need to get round to buying one - they're really popular so would probably make for a good video.
Thanks for bringing back so many happy memories! My first game was Invader from Space, followed by (in no particular order) Munchman, Scramble, Caveman, and 3D Thundering Turbo .. I still have them! I remember my friend having a Bandai game called Gunfight which was awesome .. one day I'll get around to tracking one down.
I'm familiar with Scramble (had the pocket version in the 80s), and I think I may have played Gunfight when I was in hospital on the children's ward back in 1984. As for Tundering Turbos .. I still have that and four other Tomytronics. Have you seen my other video on the Tomytronics? Lots of demo gameplay footage in there.
@@petejames1000 Ah! All good, then! 😆 I'm planning to do a look-back as classic TV show for the next RetroSpective. It'll be interesting to see what kind of response that gets.
how wonderfully nostalgic , my sister bought me one of those for my birthday a million years ago, i played it until it finally packed up. i alternated between that and my Munchman !
I've just looked up Munchman as it was ringing a few bells & now I remember - I think I had the Mini Munchman version. As I remember, the mini/pocket versions of some of these electronic games were quite affordable at the time.
These were rich kid toys back in those days! I had a friend who had one. Astro Wars was the Holy Grail! I had to save all my pocket money up for the one trip a year we'd get to go play on the seaside arcades which I was obsessed with as a kid. The best pubs were the ones with sit down 2-player game cabs 😉
Yearly holidays were my Mecca for arcades too - all those seaside amusements! The only sit down / cocktail cabinet I've played on was an obscure cops & robbers game at the local working men's club in our town.
Haven't heard of that but just looked it up. Does look like a Scramble/Defender type game. Best video I could find: ua-cam.com/video/TN8eafpRb7I/v-deo.html but I'd recommend skipping to about 3 minutes in.
Another fun Star Wars show, it won’t change your life but I’m enjoying and it looks pretty! Laughed out loud when I saw the Galaxy handheld being repurposed and came looking for your video! Thanks again. M
My power adapter connector broke off so I stripped the wires and attached them to the battery terminals. I have one now with the power adapter soldered on inside.
My mate had one of these and a puck monster (pac-man rip-off). I used to borrow them sometimes but my parents wouldn’t get me one. I bought puck monster a bought 10 years ago cheap on eBay. Didn’t realise that £20 which was how much they were at the time was so much money. £20 is still quite a lot of money now.

Astro Wars! Yes, I really must get holf of one of those. Lots of people keep mentioning it.

I have come across the Gakken brand, and seen it on pictures of this machine. The original boxes are quite a find. I don't have one for mine.
I had this and loved it so much. Thank you for some wonderful memories.
A great interpretation of Space Invaders for the time, and for the price.

I'm a little envious, to be honest. I got rid of EVERYTHING I had as a kid. The stuff I have now is all re-purchased on eBay! 😆

Loved this back in the day! I need to get one!.... this and Demon Driver.
Best get in quick before they get too expensive, I'd say. 👍
Mine was £19.99 in a Rumbelows Sale back in 1981/2. Great game, loved it. Cheers
Still plays well today. Great fun.

@@RetroSpectives It was your Tomytronics video that initially came into my feed and first caught my attention/subscription. Brilliant video 👍☺️

Fantastic...rem this as a kid...great channel buddy👍👍👍
Cheers. Definitely a memorable little game machine.
My first hand-held game. 😍
Do you still have one now?
@@RetroSpectives If only. I suspect I'll be looking for one, along with Astro Wars at some point.
@@JagHiroshi I had Astro Wars too. Awesome game :)
I was tempted by an Astro Wars on eBay earlier today, for £45. Didn't quite cave. 😬
I’m sure I had a game from Tandy called Super Cobra. It was a helicopter game based on the Atari game, Defender. Absolutely loved it

Oh I love this..got one for my brothers 40th bet he's sold it now lol....takes me back.thank you for sharing 👍
You're welcome. They are rising in value, like a lot of retro stuff right now.
@@RetroSpectives I got one of those yellow grandstand pacman games just nice to reminise
@@mousecharger I bought one of those about 10 years ago on eBay. Sold it on, though. Wish I'd kept it, tbh.

I had a similar game called Race 'N' Chase around this time. Wish I still had it.
I think there might be an advert for Race 'N' Chase on my other channel. I'll have a look later when I'm on my computer.
Just seen one of these used in episode 2 of Ashoka which bearing in mind it dates back to around the time of the original Star Wars!
That's very odd. I've been meaning to get around to watching Ahsoka. I'll keep my eyes peeled during episode 2. 🙂

Gotta love a good tech hack.

Definitely a keeper!

I had a Puck Monster a few years back, bought on ebay, but I got rid of it with a lot of other games when I trimmed down my retro collection.
