The only thing that the 2010 movie did better than the new series is the look of the characters. Water Benders are known for their blue eyes, Ang had grey eyes, and I like that they used Southern Asians (Indians) for the Fire Nation. Other than that, it looks like the new series will be awesome.
@@user-ux7hd3jb2mSouthern Asians aren’t accurate to the original material, everything about the fire nation is East Asian based. Water benders (inuit and native americans) having blue eyes would be unrealistic and too cartoonish in live action. The Netflix casting also look and sound way more accurate to the original if you aren’t blind. Extremely L take.
@@mythrin If any Asian should play the Water tribe its Russians. They look closer to the Water tribe than any other Asian. The Earth Kingdom is definitely East Asian, and Ang would be Tibet or anything dealing with the Buddhist Monks. As for the Fire Nation, There are no Asians with amber eyes, which is why I liked Indians (Southern Asians) as a better pick.
But its a fantasy story with fantasy characters, none of which are real.

The best part is that it has a 5% on rotten tomatoes with an audience score of 30%. The animated show has a perfect 100% and 98% audience score. Possibly the best tv show to ever exist.
Just finished watching the Netflix’s Avatar and I’m very happy with the result! Definitely much much much better, grander, crisp with script as well as characters. 👌🏻✨
Water Tribe were inspired by Ethnicities like American Indians, Inuits, Aleuts, Eskimos, Udeges, Various Siberian Peoples, Evenys, Yakuts, Evenks, Altaians, Teleuts, Ainu People of Japan and Russia, Shors, Khakas People, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, Nenets, Khantys, Mansis, Komis, and the Sami Peoples of Scandinavia.
Air Nomads were inspired by Ethnicities like Tibetans, Nepalese, Ladakhis, Yugurs, Mongols, Buryats, Kalmyks, and even Tuvans.
Earth Kingdom and the Fire Nation were inspired by Ethnicities of East Asian and South-East Asian Minorities like Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, People of Thailand, People of Laos, Burmese, Indonesians, People of the Philippines, and even Malaysians.
Guru Pathik should obviously be played by an Indian Person, and Swamp Benders are based off of Vietnamese Fishermen.

Man I was ten when the movie came out, and I freaking loved it! Didn't put much thought into the casting as a kid, and man was I crushing on princess Yue. I understand that people are upset about that now, but also think the hatred is sometimes blown out of proportion. Like the general public decided they hate this movie so you have to conform and if you don't you don't have integrity or class. I've watch both now and I love both and that's that.
Hated the 2010 movie got so much wrong:
- Character name pronunciation.
- Acting was wooden.
- Special effects were trash.
- Script both the lines they were given and delivery of the terrible lines was so cringe.
- Bending looked awful and what was required to bend (fire benders needing fire nearby to use fire, Earth benders having 5+ guys to do a dance only to make a small rock float slowly towards fire benders)
- All the was cut from the film from the animated series.
- Exposition dialogue.
- Race bending.
- Cast not looking anything like their animated counterparts.
- Comedy removed entirely.
To say that everyone that didn't like the movie was conforming legit sounds like your in denial about how bad it really was. I walked out on the movie when I went to see it at cinema. I gave it a solid 30mins or so before enough was enough. I only gave it a 2nd shot as I purely wanted to see how bad it really got, this only confirmed it was a good choice to walk out of cinema. This was only time I've walked out of a movie in my life.
The Netflix adaption although not perfect definitely hit closer to the mark my only major gripes being the dialogue at times spent too much time on exposition and telling rather than showing and their choice of combining the events in the northern temple and Jet episodes into the Omashu episode.
Overall a solid 8-9/10 for the Netflix adaption with the movie been a solid 1/10 the 1 been a little generous for the odd cast member that tried.
In my view, the 2010 movie is like a fanfiction of the avatar the last airbender. Like, they make the avatar their own version. I like it, and the emotion is great too, even though Aang is so serious than in the original but it kind of makes sense, y'know. His whole people died, because he left them, even though he didn't mean to, imagine the guilt that consumed him. Anyone who experienced that will surely have some trauma, if that was me, i dont think i can be as happy as the original Aang, and the guilt shows in the final scene of the 2010 movie. I can feel his emotion.
Sure the bending is not that great, but I like some of the choreography that the characters show when they do bending.

I was also 10 yrs. old when the movie came out, I loved it too. Honestly, the effects, and bending there looked realistic given that the technology then was not the same level now. I know a lot of people, even some of my friends and classmates didn't like the movie. Still, we have different thoughts in this matter. I respect others decision that they don't like it. Btw, I have watched the Netflix series, I also loved it so much! The actors portraying their characters were definitely spot on.
How can you say the direction of the last airbender was better simply from the filmography??! In fact it puts Night into a much higher standard and his failure to capitalize on his experience drops him waaaaaaayyy down

I'm a devoted fan of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender, and I was excited for the live-action adaptation. Unfortunately, the creators of the live-action version demonstrated how a once-great concept can be mishandled and turned into something far from its original brilliance................. suckerssss. hope netflix wont disappoint me..........

Totally agree with comments on end scene of 2010 movie. It hits more emotionally with great action from Aang and the score, connecting with his fight scene and giant wave scene. I felt the Netflix series just didn’t deliver a high enough climax emotionally, with music even being silent in some places.

I really liked the arrow tattoo from the 2010 movie. It was sick. The kid casted was perfect as Aang, he looked just like the animated version and was even a martial artist. He just got fucked over by terrible writers.

Personally, as a big ATLA fan, there is nothing worse than when small but important things feel extra misrepresented throughout the entire 103 minutes of the film. 🤷♂️
i just finished watching avatar (netfix) and watched avatar (2010) and i must say comparing to 2010 version everything including casting and vfx is 100× better in latest one.

Storyline feeling intense and sad
To be honest, I'm not a fan of the 2010 version of Avatar. I hate the execution and the casting. The chorography was lame to the point of zero, Aang mostly look like he wants to cry and I HATE the tattoo on his head...it wasn't true to the original in my opinion. The movie was a letdown and irritating to watch. But Netflix version looks promising from what I've seen so far....I really don't have much to say except I don't like sokka's casting choice,...he looks too serious for my liking and I can't see the cockiness and the joviality in him but I may be wrong....only time will tell.

The movie seems horrible to me but it would be unfair to compare something that we didn't see in the series even because of the neutral points, and the budget is bigger, the director has more experience, I can't lie about that even though it was horrible. I don't remember what other plus points it had but it was almost torturous to see it.

I'm sorry but it feels like all these opinions are to bias. The movie was beyond bad, I would say it set a GREAT Eternal stain on the avatar universe. Netflix had been stinking too the story line, customs, action and as far as been release whole vibe of the original series. Aang excelled in waterbending! Now in 2010 he struggle. If tht embarrassment of a movie had a sequel.. would he struggled with earth or excelled? If he excelled tht whole fun play off of him and Toph be gone. The bending in groups looked liked sad ass dance teams without rhythm. The blue spirit was a Joke! The whole episode with a thousand Easter eggs base on Zuzu's redemption ruined! And the whole spirit world nonsense.. OMG, I can't even start. Just murder the movie. The only thing I agree with was good was Aang's tattoo but again tht movie is a STAIN on the master piece tht was the original series. I mean, they couldn't even say the Names Right!
Even if Netflix fail I cnt believe they do worse thn wht the movie did. Cause of the movie the franchise almost died. If it wasn't for Covid and the huge refollowing the show got cause of isolation there wouldn't had been even a Netflix creation. Korra isn't so bad but it completely washed away all the likeability Aang and his gang had. It was a whole different feel and it really wasn't the greatness of the original. It was way too advanced for wht Aang's time had left us.
I have great high hopes for the series cause in all honesty too many people are involved and u can see they are trying to perfect it as best as they can. They even given a backstory more and let us into the bigger world of the series no one even thought about.
Netflix u have my support but if u fail I can say 2005-2008 was a blessing.

Both movie and series are good, the series just did it better. The movie was one of my fav movies until now!! The movie actors did so good it's just the movie itself did it bad thou.
Just like the 2010 version I will give the 2024 version a shot. I hated the 2010 version due to the actors (I’m sorry who thought putting a twilight character as sokka okay?), CGI of the bending (also the fact that they made the fire bending not come from them but from a resource which is inaccurate), saying the names of the characters WRONG and just the overall acting in the movie. Looking forward to your after commentary once it airs. I do have a higher hope for the new version only cause technology has come up in the last 13 yrs but also they are staying more true to the series and even though there will be changes it seems minimal which is okay.

After the Netflix release, I’d say the visuals in the latest one is more anime-accurate. Also, I don’t think reviewing the first live action VS the Netflix series given the time difference of over a decade won’t make a lot of sense. The technology would be really different. I’d focus more on the casting, the writing, and /or which ever is closest to the OG cartoon series-but the evolution of the story line is also a good thing too for more depth. Visuals is subjective depending on the time it was created. The first live action might be the best one during its time. IMHO
But overall, the Netflix series is successful in building each of the character VS the 2010 LA.

I really enjoyed the Avatar series set in 2024. Aang, Zuko, Katara, and the rest of the cast and the film team did a great job. In particular, Aang's role in the film is very good for him. Aang's choice of character was very good 😱❤️❤️

A movie for avatar will never be sufficient because there were sooo many memorable moments in the series the show is too good to be rough drafted! Also dont tell me who directing if they are not an avatar fan and has watched the series. I just hope these directors know wat they doin cuz i will just watch the cartoon and be happy, too focused on making a movie and not enough focus on bringing beloved characters, art, and martial arts to life.

most people say that the original creators left the Netflix adaptation and it is a bad sign. But what most people don't realize is that the original creators were involved in the 2010 adaptation too. Watch the interview of them being proud of the 2010 movie on UA-cam. So they being not involved is really not a bad sign.

I am only on Ep. 2 but am really loving it so far!! I am a huge fan of the original. My son and I bonded over the show. It has been our thing, he is now almost 22. The 2010 version was sooooo disappointing!!
I will understand with the lack of cgi tech in 2010. But, they really messed with the casts selection. And, that detail of aang tattoos was too much. For me, spent my teenage with this avatar last airbender animation series as my favourite. That 2010 live action movies was a shame. They should never had released that kind of trash 😎

My biggest problem with The Last Airbender movie is that there are more moves & less effects also the fact that in the cartoon the firebenders produce the fire that they're bending in this movie they need a fire source.

And the Netflix adaptation is 4.1 they definitely fixed a lot of major flaws from the movie if it’s at 4 stars
I loved the Netflix series. My favorite character is Uncle Iroh. Paul Sun-Hyung Lee is perfect as Iroh. The cast of the Netflix is closer to the animated series. I am no longer a fan of M Night Shamalan. I think The Happening was the worse movie he ever made, but he was on a downward trajectory for a good while before that. It was great to see Daniel Dae Kim. He captured the firelord so effectively. I have seen the series twice now and I really love it. I probably will watch it twice more, but now I am also watching the animated series. Frankly, after watching the Netflix series, I find some of the animated series flat emotionally and dwells too much on comedy, which detracts from the story and the drama.

The 2010 have good story telling good costume but too many skip (in the story) and the editing are just somewhat lacking.

Well, they produced a *103 min film* to portray _very significant events_ of a *60 episode tv series that spanned over 3 season/years!* The film was doomed to fail from the very beginning with just those optics alone. But as a big fan of the series, I gave it a chance anyway.
Having TLA produced as another series is the correct way to go and how it should've been handled previously. As a series spanning several seasons, there's a chance to retell the *_FULL_* story carefully and sequentially rather than speeding through everything to the point where new watchers don't know what the heck is going on, and to where loyal fans are disappointed that more time wasn't spent on _this_ or _that._ Hopefully, the 2010 version just serves as a way how _not_ to do things.
Also, as for how much money was spent on the film vs the series first season, please keep in mind that the film *RUSHED* and _attempted to encapsulate the series'_ *3 ENTIRE SEASONS **_(with 20 episodes each)_** into ONE FILM!!!* That's lunacy! The _dollar per minute_ head-to-head should've compared the first 1/3 of the film to the first season of this Netflix series.
So, it's actually more like *50 Million vs 120 Million.* Do the dollar per minute equivalency on that! Also, by the time the entire series is wrapped, likely years from, then we can do the _dollar per minute_ versus again to see. And even though money spent doesn't equal a good product (as proven by the 2010 film) this would be a fairer comparison since The Netflix version looks to do a _much better job_ of taking it's time to _focus_ on telling the story rather than spend money on CGI and visual effects, which probably led to 2010's _blowing $150Ms._
The point of adaptation is to respect the source material by adding accurate details from the source. I don't know WTF Shyamalan and his team were thinking when they cast Europeans/Indians/Middle Easterns for Fire Nation members, when they should've been East Asians (Chinese/Japanese/Koreans). That alone is worthy of a plus point for the new Netflix Avatar 😂🤣

I think your point system needs work i loved the netflix series 😁 I bringed all 8 episodes in one night i hope they continue the whole series. the movie on the other hand i didnt like any of it. and ive watched the original probably 10 times since it has come out 🤣 i like how even though they couldnt make every episode exact they still found ways to reference the things that was left out.
