I interned at McQueen during this collection. Was truly amazing to be there....the entire company moved from Amwell st to I think it was Clerkenwell rd in London right before Paris FW and so a lot of materials were thrown away which we were allowed to take (I still have some of it). At the time I wasn't fond of this collection, but seeing it now, I'm blown away by the digital print implementation. So unique and visionary....really miss his genius.
Finally i saw the referenes from his working during early days. Outrageous, Complicated and adventurous but in a much refined and polished way. Great show with his own DNA and advanced
I don't think there has been a single more influential collection by anyone since this one. Though Raf's last at Jil Sander affected mass market products more, this one influenced the clothing industry immediately.
This was the first time we saw engineered digital prints of this calibre. The lengths also changed the prevailing mood and the London-based designers generally followed this cue: Katrantzou, Erdem and others. The fringe work was completely new. It wasn't immediate, the influence, it took a few seasons for the major houses to feel it.
It didn't change everything for everyone, it just stands out for me as the last time in recent fashion times that anything stood out as a kind of game changer. Galliano at Margiela is still throwing out new ITEMS and fabrics that are influencing things, but we don't see strong, singular direction from anyone anymore. It's all a mish mash of production management and market research now.
@@ughstfuu She somehow manages to always be a badass publicly it seems. Perfect combo of innocent-looking, dangerous, and even dorky... one of the few models that gets hotter when you hear her talk, not the opposite lol.
Yes, I heard that that the corset the she was wearing was too tight for her, as she couldn't walk and breathe properly. So that's why we didn't see her at the finale. I felt so sorry for her! 😢
It's a stunningly beautiful collection, minus all the dead bodies strewn about the stage. I am delighted that the designs don't focus on animals skins and furs though.
thrivesurvive Agree, Though I do appreciate that McQueen gives faux fur as a option for products and What I really appreciated of Alexander himself is that after he died, he gave four animal charities large donations.
The Highland Rape, AW 95-96. It was about how the English invaded and pillaged and raped Scotland hundreds of years ago. The collection got a lot of immediate negative press here in the UK. Put him on the map, though.
what an amazing story and collection. Forever live Mcqueen.

I was not aware of that. :) Yay!
Well it's a spring /summer collection so it would be weird to use leather or fur..in large quantities at least!!

É um estilista que as roupas tem frente e verso isso se chama virtuose
I saw that Alexander mcqueen made a collection inspired by gender violence, Someone could tell me the name?
