I don’t even care about big zappers, I just support you and your videos. Great channel.
Totally agree
The ants are going after the carcasses because they are all about the fine grilled nom noms you are giving them.
I live in Va. and ive use zappers of all kinds in and around my chicken coups. My biggest get is flies and it provides my birds a continuous stream of protien. BUT I promise you Ive never ever seen a grass hopper crawl through the cage and into electric grid though, lol... awesome video.
lol
A few years ago Consumer Reports did a review on bug zappers. The biggest issue it found with them is that they attract bugs to your property, as you noted at the end of your review. The suggestion was to give the bug zapper to your neighbor. Let the bugs go there. It's great advice.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Or you could just use it inside your house, Close all doors and windows. Sleep without the nuisance of buzzing in your ears.
The trapper wont make sound because it doesn't zap. The light attracts them and the fan pulls then in and holds then in bottom chamber hence the small mesh to allpw airflow oit of holding chamber but keep bugs in. Zapper works better but trapper is quiet. To each there own for preference
James was right not to do bug control in Las Vegas. The whole video is rather naive and misguided. Most bugs won't bite you, and even grasshoppers aren't a long term nuisance. Zappers are annoying both the light and noise and pretty much useless against mosquitoes.
I think so as well. Not sure if it there are models that combine the two into one device but for the most part the fan pulls the insects in and either there's a sticky surface at the bottom, or the fan is powerful enough that it "dries" the bugs to death.
@@Pyrolonn I completely agree. This wasn't a review what keeps bugs off of you, but what is most effective at bug genocide. And I sure hope the idea isn't to kill every bug you see, as is implied by keeping it on all night even though noone is on the patio...
Pyrolonn yea in wooded areas it’s more useful but the only thing that you’d want to zap in wooded areas that would be attracted are moths (they can infest your house). Soo.
ah now I get it.
So it just sits there and sucks
Here in Thailand, bugs would eat your devices.
These devices are probably made in Thailand
I've seen videos of some of your nightmare inducing bugs!!
@@ebuff57 Made in China I'd say.
I love π
You ever Ben to the deep south?
I lived in Thailand for four years and there they eat some of the bugs.
"I believe, get me a bug zapper and a 6 pack of beer and I'll show you quality entertainment"
Jeff Foxworthy
Very cool
What I like about your reviews is how thoroughly you test the products. Great job!
Here in Alaska, mosquitoes are a real problem when it comes to outdoor activities such as BBQ, etc. If you're serious about getting rid of mosquitoes, they sell devices that use a 20 lb. propane tank (same size that you use on your gas grill) combined with a bug zapper. It burns propane at a very, very low rate which produces CO2 which draws them from the surrounding area. Ticks, fleas, horseflies, mosquitoes (pretty much any biting bug/insect) are attracted to the smell of CO2, which is produced by any warm blooded animal. Those zappers really aren't intended for larger bugs like grasshoppers.
I heard about test that was done with a CO2 bug trapper/zapper in the Florida Everglades (since there's TONS of mosquitoes there) and it was found to be very effective. They are in the pricy side, but work if you're serious about getting rid of deadly blood suckers.
Glad you mentioned the thing about mosquitos, they're really the only bugs I want to get rid of at night and they don't seem to be interested in the zappers.
LOL - "I do notice a couple of grasshopper legs, so some grasshoppers must have LIMPED outta here."
I heard grasshopper said so many times in this video, all I could think about was The Karate Kid movie and couldn’t stop laughing every time James said. Great video as always. Now back to watching the video I had to pause it because I was laughing so much.
My father always said that if you want to get rid of insects at your house simply buy your neighbors a bug zapper. Works perfectly to this day. 😁
I would like to know which bug zapper you purchased. I've researched for hours upon hours, falling on bad reviews. I had a great one on for a full year, unfortunately, it's no longer made.
Found your review very useful, We have been thinking about getting one mainly for a mosquito problem. Thanks for the good work. Always enjoy the honesty in your reviews.
These things really don't work for Mosquitoes. They are attracted to carbon dioxide. What people and other animals exhale. There are traps designed for Mosquitoes. Generally, they run on Propane. They create carbon dioxide that attracts them. You can use a zapper, but generally, you need to attach something that will draw them to the zapper. I never really had much luck doing that. Amazon has something like the "Flowtron MA-1000-6 Octenol Mosquito Attractant Cartridges".
You may want to look at something like the "Koolatron Guardian Bite Shield Cordless Mosquito Trap"
www.amazon.com/Koolatron-Guardian-Shield-Cordless-Mosquito/dp/B0033J6KQ8/ref=sr_1_34?crid=3T3SR0FGN794K&keywords=mosquito+trap+outdoor+propane&qid=1565234114&s=gateway&sprefix=mosquitoes+trap+outdoor+propane%2Caps%2C210&sr=8-34
There are a number of them. Really design for large areas.
Great video.
Everytime i see videos about bug zappers it reminds me something i was once taught. Best way to get bugs out of your yard is to give bug zappers to your neighbors.
Or to put them along your perimeter.
7:49 I can't wait for the new grill you will review real soon for BBQ :D. Great review on the bug zappers I remember u did one before those 2 keep up the work. Funk Up Salute :)
Thanks for the review!! I was wanting to get one of them and now I will get one!!
The trapper doesn’t zap bugs it just traps them and the die due to dehydration
"We don't get many bugs in Las Vegas"
Pulls out a full tray of zapped bugs.
Bug zappers will also attract bug eating critters such as lizards, which results in a pretty grizzly demise for the lizard. Found this out the hard way.
Tiger2Tone
Lol sounds like lize got the electric chair😂 hit em again boss he still shake’n
But foreal tho it sounds like ww3 when one gets in there.
Hey, would you please review "Top Coat?" It's the amazing wax for the car that looks too good to be true. There's another product out there that makes the same claims but I can't remember the name of it. Thanks!
Looked at that product on Amazon.. never seen so many ONE star reviews... Think I'd pass on Top Coat.
@@Kafka451, that's interesting! Thanks!
@@taylorvanbuskirk8040 I'm a professional detailer. I do paint correction and ceramic coatings all day long. F11 Top Coat is criminally overpriced garbage. For a DIY guy, your best economical option is Turtle Wax Seal & Shine. You can buy it locally for under $10 and it is incredibly durable and chemically resistant, so it holds up to repeated washes.
It is just as easy to apply as F11, lasts ten times as long at a fraction of the price. Use it sparingly, not like a detail spray, one spray per section on a clean surface is all you need. If you have trouble with streaking and removal you're using too much. Apply it to all exterior surfaces, glass, trim, wheels, etc..
@@jdisdetermined, wow! That's a great review! Thanks!
Are they different bulbs available for the Bug zapper and BugTrapper like UV bulbs. If so would that make a difference in their performance?
I had a bug zapper about 20 years ago and mounted it on top of a 4x4. Large bugs would not fit in it, so I got a brainstorm to cut some of the outside plastic off to allow larger bugs in. When the larger bugs got in they stuck on the electrode part and burst into flame causing the whole zapper to burn. It looked like a torch on top of the 4x4.
Great video. Short informative to the point
Would you try the bug zapper that looks a badmitten? There are several different brands.
J.Wilde I used to have one I used it to keep my rowdy friends in line😈
I had to re-watch parts of the video because I get distracted by Bailey walking around 😂🐾. Anyway, great review as usual mate!
And all her tennis balls lying around. One was strategically placed in a puddle for maximum fun
@@mszoomy ha ha yeah I completely agree with that.
I have that same bug zapper but it doesn't zap like it used to.Believe it needs a resistor after a frog got into it?
I have something similar to monster trapper I got from QVC and love it. Mine doesnt zap but sucks them in cage if the fan doesnt slice em then they will dehydrate and die in cage.
I have the monster zapper, love it.. All it needs is a digital counter so you know exactly what the death toll is..
To be perfectly honest I don't think these things are for outside use, and to also state I have tried 2 other blue light devices with no much success, so just have to carry on with my electric tennis racket thing.
Graham Johnson
Yea I think these are for screened in porch’s and such
Wow! Living in West Texas I think I need the monster zapper , mosquitos everywhere, army ants , moths , tree aphids. Thank you for doing the comparison 👍
create home for bats and birds ;) problem solved
I live in the south and misquote's will carry you off, so I'm glad you made this video and now I know what to get. Thank you! Keep up the great work your awesome!!!!
I have one of those big bug zappers, I too live in the south, and have the zapper on my back porch by the door. Before I got the zapper the mosquitos would attack and swarm me when I walked out the door, that does not happen with the zapper on duty.
@@elainemagliacane Thank you so much that is helpful.
Those misquote's are terrible! One got a hold of my grammar and now she's in a comma.
Lisa H I'm jealous of your ❤️ from James 😂 but I think you meant "mosquitoes" 😂😂😂
Thing is if you specifically want to target mosquitoes, you can do a lot better with a shop-fan and a screen. ua-cam.com/video/6BhV-o77RqQ/v-deo.html
My husband is a district manager at Ecolab under the pest control division and his bug light is awesome. WAY better than any other one I have seen. We have one in the back yard, one in the garage and one in the gazebo and they are amazing. Not sure how these would compare to his but I'm so happy that I don't have to worry about insects around my house!
Why, oh why, did I decide this would be a good one to watch while I ate lunch? Haha!
Okay James, hear me out: take these two zappers up to Alaska! I would love to see these bad boys take on the giant mosquitos of the North!
I wondering how the zapper works on fly. Here in Texas and many other states the flys are really bad. Wondering you could use the these zapper inside the home? Thanks
It works great.
The light from the round one is just illuminating blue columns and not broadcasting the light frequency needed to attract the bugs. Maybe?
hey James ... that metal hose in the back .... is it the same Metal hose you've reviewed back in march 2017 ???? thx !!! love your work !!!
It's the Hercules Pocket Hose. I went out and bought one because of this channel!
I'm I the only one sleeping with your vids on? Your voice is so relaxing!
Review the "Katchy"!!!! We're using a small army of them around our house to take out mosquitoes and are seeing a beyond 90% reduction in indoor bugs. Its not a zapper type, but uses a sticky pad.. however resembles the M. Trapper. I'm curious if the M. Trapper was just uniquely bad at attracting bugs into the area where the fan could suck them in.
James can you review the tac series of as seen on TV products. They advertise a solar charging pack, a hearing aid, flashlight, and a visor. Thanks for all the quality content your family provides!
i have a device similar to the monster trapper but with a strong purple neon bulb in it, it only trap them and they die overtime, they arent zapped. work very well here to trap all these night butterfly, mosquitos, and other flying things, maybe they juste dont attract the same kind of insect each ??
And how long did the zapper last before it quit? 1 month, 2, or even a week?
11:25 - looks like beetles and pistachios 😂
Does the non zapper one just attract and pull them in but the current keeps them in the bottom to die?
Its pretty dumb.
I have the monster zapper and it does work, I have had it for 2 years. I just wish it didnt make the pop noise when it got a bug. Sitting on the porch and jumping everytime that thing goes off isn't my idea of a fun evening. It reminds me of the old square ones when I grew up in the 90s. Still works great though.
The ultimate bug zapper is from Gilbert industries, it's called "The Don" 601T it's spendy, but amazing!
Keep it up love these vids
I use to have one of those racket type bug zappers. It's pretty good for flies and mosquitoes and give you some workout too! And I don't think it will give the same problem with lights attracting bug to your property, you're just killing what you can see/hear already
The Monster Zapper looks a lot like the commercial units that are wall-mounted. About the same form factor, but those anchor to a wall and get wired to the mains.
Was In Vegas seen a few grasshoppers , and some in the casinos only bad at night with all the lights
Compare the Zapp light bulb u did in 2017 to the Monster Zapper?
love the muse t-shirt!
Great review!
I forget how to make links, but someone must have a link to the scene in Grown Ups with the bug zapper. Hilarious 😂
ua-cam.com/video/MfiAwhUR3SY/v-deo.html Enjoy!
@@Blue-moon12 Thank you! I don't know how I haven't see this movie. 😂✌
Are they weather resistant at all?
Great video, thanks!
Please do an ice maker review. Not the expensive ones but the one ranges from less than 150.
it would be awesome to do a virual co-op video with you for new product reviews. if possible.
also was woundering if you would be able to do as seen on tv tool reviews as well and the multi use tools. (tools for building and fixing kind lol)
From what I’ve seen they work best when you can direct the bugs near you to the zapper but not have the zapper too close due to bugs swarming around it. Also good long term to knock down the bugs a few weeks before a barbecue.
The monster zapper-type machines have been sold for years. They are so old news, I've bought and worn out one of them and I'm on my second now. Not this ASOT version but the actual product. They're on Amazon for about $40 or less. I use one for flies which are a real pain where I am. It works. But again, I use a "real" one not this one from a TV ad.
I wonder if having a bug zapper attracts more bugs then would normally be around. Like having one out causes more bugs to be around
bad thing about these bug zappers specially here in Florida the bugs get trapped on the zapper and start a fire
True story bro. I once saw a wasp get caught in one when I lived in Florida and it just kept zapping him like a Tesla coil and eventually he caught on fire and smelled like roach carcass
Fire bad! Fire bad!
Dope shades
This is probably a stupid question. Are either waterproof? Dang it! I need something for monster mosquitos. Guessing I should just by a portable mosquito repeller
No. Hang it under a cheap plastic garden table when meteo is bad. Fuse inside and earth third cable connection prevent electrical demage in the worst conditions.
So Vegas doesn't have much flying bugs? Is that due to the heat? I'd have thought they'd be loads.
It’s due to low humidity. Bugs thrive in hot, humid environments. Louisiana is hell
@@Kingbaylei Thanks for the info
I live in a suburban area outside Chicago. Lots of woods and tall grass. I bought a Dynatrap a few years ago. It’s like your monster trapper. But the set up looks different. The Dynatrap post between the lamp and fan are black so the bugs are not attracted to landing on them. The heating on the fan is larger to get the bigger bugs like Junebugs. The entire unit is black but the fan is glowing white from the black lamp. And to be honest it is half full every night of mosquitoes and moths. I could not be happier with its results. Another thing with the zapper is the smell and noise along with electrical usage is my problem. And they don’t work on mosquitoes. They kill around here the wrong insects. So it depends on where you live to get the results you need.
Thanks for the review.
It's a good thing the strip attracts most of the grasshoppers. But we have them like crazy out here in NLV.
where I live we put the bug things away from the house so the bugs do not fly near where we are sitting
Why is the back of your house dark when you have angle lights??
The trapper actually good indoors because it doesn't work. I had a moth and mosquito problem so I kept something like it in my house. It doesn't zap though, it's meant more for little nuisance bugs. They can't be compared to each other though
Just seen the MonsterZapper on TV to use it indoors. Hahaha.
I hang out this plastic thing with tape and it works great. I guess the tape has something that attracts the flies.
So...flypaper?
@@tequilamokinbrd a little different but pretty much haha works great.
James I like your T-shirt where did you get that.
Over 40 years ago we had a bug zapper at home. It popped and zapped continuously. I don't know what brand it was. But it was big and round. Dad finally took it down and did not replace it.
Un vero piciu cun l'elica.
I use
PIC Repelling Coils, for Mosquitos, I am not a fan the the electric zappers. We had one when I was a kid in the early 70's.
We used to have several bug zippers in both our barn and yard. The only things we found were, yes, bugs were zapped and if you were in line between them and the zapper you were fair game for food .
In fact if you were within X number of feet mosquitoes gnawed on you more.
Needless to say those zippers were removed and cheap Non electric fly strips went up instead.
We found that the lights on zippers actually attracted more bugs to the area.
In short pass on these gadgets that seem to be more for human entertainment than actual necessity
6:05 I've seen the movie several times, and the ants always win in the end, cause the grasshoppers are lazy...
My zapper is the same size as the one your using. Just that i took off the safety grill so bigger insect can get zap
Awesome. I have the Aspectek indoor zapper. It works well. The design is a little different. The zappers are rods instead of plates and the bottom tray has a surface under it so that it is a solid frame on all sides, but that allows bugs to hide under the collection tray. I wish the zapping bars were on both sides of the light. I'm not sure if the ASOTV can be hung, but my Aspectek has hanging hooks that slide into the frame if not in use. It zaps loud. I love it, I now have 2 and got a friend to get one. He said the same as you, that it bothers his dog. A word of caution, the spring loaded protective grates are a little flimsy and difficult to remove/replace and the zapper holds a charge after you turn it off, I zapped my finger on it a while after i unplugged it and was cleaning it, so my advice for cleaning is to just leave it assembled and turn it at an angle and hit the frame against your other hand and (for me) nearly every stuck bug will fall off (unless they are ultra tiny and stuck good). It's okay if you leave dead bugs on them because i think the voltage vaporizes all the water out of them, effectively preserving them, sort of like freeze-drying, assuming they aren't juicy or huge things like grasshoppers.
The Aspectek works great! Put it in our spare bedroom we don't use, where a horrible fly infestation occurred, and it worked great. It zaps really loud even with the bedroom door shut, but I liked it knowing the demise of those pests.
I wish there was a on-screen counter counting the number of times "zapper" or "trapper" was said :)
One thing I've learned with insects, you gotta bring a tank to a knife fight. Overdo it. I like the big one.
Have you tried some indoor bug zappers?
Grasshoppers aren't the focus of bug lights, gnats, mosquitos, moths and the like are their focus as they are attracted to light/heat.
Grasshoppers were attracted to the lights in vegas because of the amount of light and heat they gave off, something bug zappers don't offer as much of.
does that work on stink bugs?
Trouble with bug zappers is that they zap beneficial insects as well.
I saw a product ad you can review: Fuller Window Washer. You attach a container with some cleaner in it to your hose. Was away!
I want a puppies only video! Hahaha
PS Love Tesseract, saw them live in 2012.
13:07 It's too bad that these bug zapper devices don't have some type of Carbon Dioxide Cartridges and the device when something flies within a certain area it will slowly spit out that scent so it will attract the bugs to the zapper where they will want to leave us and will be attracted to the zapper?
I tried the monster zapper and it wasn't a monster. It didn't work for me. It was full of bugs and no zapping. I might modify it if I can find a high voltage source that plugs into 120VAC.
As for my favorite bug zappers I have my 35 year old flowtron lantern zapper which now needs a new transformer. Also the hand held tennis racket style zappers. I have a larger hand held zapper that I call "the big boy" as it puts on a good show. I put it in front of two flood lights which draw in lots of bugs and all you hear is zap, pop. zzt.
You can have put glue boards in the bottom of the tray. Might help kept the bugs there
or also some diy mosquito atractant possible?
Or fly paper may be a cheaper idea for the bottom, easy to replace also.
Nice shirt 🤘
Love the Muse t shirt! Also a Muse fan 👍🤗
What kinda bugs were those?! Omg they looked huge lol
You’ve got a TesseracT tee on? What a great band man. Amos Williams is the man!
Lol I was wondering if when on your wall it was annoying to neighbors because of the light and noise. Still an entertaining review!
5:35 wow thankfully you don’t get a lot of bugs in Vegas...
Perhaps the trapper would be better suited for indoors use?
Well, considering the names of these products, I'm completely unimpressed.
There were exactly ZERO monsters zapped or trapped.
Use needle nose pliers on monster zapper to widen multiple "holes" so that the grasshoppers can make it in.
yeah ,James
I have a DYNATRAP from Bed, Bath and Beyond. It is a very small unit and I keep it on my screened in front porch. (No matter screen or not, here in Florida, we get little flying bugs)
The 1st day I could hear the fan, but now, about 2 weeks later I don't even hear the fan. It is not intended to zap any bugs, however, it does trap the and while there isn't a whole lot inside when I do my weekly emptying, there are plenty of little bugs inside. I do notice that I'm not swatting at any of those pesky things flying around me here on the porch anymore. To me, that's fantastic and it seems to be doing what it claims to do. That's all that I ask of it. And I don't have to listen to that annoying zap every time something hits it.
Just my opinion, for my small screened in front porch (10' x 18') the DYNATRAP (Their smaller unit) works great!
