    Ren is one of the most talented artists in the game these days. The poetry and storytelling he creates, reminds me of the Troubadours of the 70's. The Tale of Jenny and Screech is haunting and beautiful at the same time.

    Violets Tale was written in 2019 at 29.
    He says the worst year of his life was 2015 (25). He still did not have a correct diagnosis after 6 years of illness. He made a wonderful video with his former girlfriend Bibi called Crutch. I highly recommend this jewel.

  • @Penddraig7
    @Penddraig7 Місяць тому +12

    In Welsh the term is Bardd which is anglicised to Bard and so this kind of music that Ren does comes under the genre of Bardcore.
    Bardism originated with the Welsh.
    To give a bit of context to Jenny once you find out the plot twist at the end, Jenny is 14 years old, she is the twin of Screech who we are told was 14 years old.
    This means Jenny was walking the streets late at night wearing high heels and she had walked those streets a thousand times before and so we can infer that Jenny must have been a “lady of the night” to put it in a non explicit way and that would suggest that her upbringing was not good either and especially as a 14 years old doing it, so they were both failed by the system and both ended up in a dodgy part of town and both doing bad things to get money to survive and it ended in tragedy. She wanted to escape that life and ultimately she got her wish just not the kind of escape she was probably hoping for.

    Thank you, I enjoyed your reaction. Ren has also been compared with medieval troubadours (Southern French) and bards (Welsh), in fact he calls this style "Bardcore". Ren's well of inspiration goes deep. He transcends genres. May I request "Penitence"? No one else will ask for it but it's a hidden gem.

I'm not sure Ren coined the term 'bardcore', I think it was a comment on a video that took hold and he's happily embraced it. Either way it's a brilliant name for his unique genre!

    Also, Ren is not technically a rapper. He's a musician who has always incorporated some rap into his music, but he decided to make a hip hop album for fun (Sick Boi), which went on to become #1 on the UK charts. He's said his next album is getting back to more singing and guitar. The boy can (and does) do it all!

    By the way, a cool thing is before rewinding, hes doing violets experiences backwards, so at 12:48 hes portraying violet arriving in the afterlife, hence why it sounds ethereal/spooky. And right before that portrays the moment violet reviews her entire life. And the playing before that, the Renaissance-like theme i believe is shes frolicking through heaven.

  • @3404sammy
    @3404sammy Місяць тому +7

    Ren shines the light on dark sides of society.. but its done in such a creative way and done so well that you can't look away.. this reflects the cycles of abuse.. Violet ended up with an abusive man like her father.. Jenny responded to a threat the same as the mother she never even knew.. froze and went silent.. Screech went from a threat to violence in response to her silence just like his father did with violet.. it depicts the abuse cycle and as you said many other important messages. I recently stumbled on a song that is an alternative to this on a page called Renegade. It is performed by AI.. but sounds really good and the lyrics are smart.. its a what if type song and when Screech gets out the blade instead of repeating the cycle.. Jenny steps forward and speaks to James.. and it breaks the cycle for them both.. its actually really nice. Worth checking out.

    Jenny was a 14 year old girl in the streets late at night. She was likely a prostitute. And Screech’s buddy wasn’t home while Screech’s gf was busy late at night is a sign they were together. Also Jenny basically froze and went quiet like their mother Violet while Screech exploded into violence like their father Stevie. It’s a sad tale of generational trauma and nature vs nurture.

    Yes.Its a nod to the Wandering Minstrels of Medieval Times (& styles of music) where thry are Storytellers, Enertainrers, Minstrels, were not only entertaining at Royal Courts, but also functioned as Town Criers, bringing the news (& juicy gossip ) of the times - from town to town, and village to village. Those artists in the UK, doing Bardcore are usually finding abd resuumrrectinh ancient songs abs bringing them to today's audiences, often dressing up in Medieval garb as well abd hairstyles etc
    But what Ren does is something completely different. It has a BARDCORE. Flavour, But it's really more REN-CORE! 😂
    Because he onstantly blends the ancient with multiple genres of the new. With Melodic Rap, singing, slam poetry, street theatre, and all tailored for a multi-media- mostly online - audience.
    Singer- Songwriter, Composer, Master Lyricist, Director, Producer,Audio-Mixer, Set / Location Design, Lighting . Ren does it ALL, and all on a Shoe-String Budget.
    ( Think about that... and compare with talentless grifters,- who are given $100 million by Netflix for eg to produce a bland podcast !
    But REN can not - nor should no - be confined to a single genre. Such creativity cannot be confined.
    And lastly, but by no means least, Ren is a Powerful Social Commentator. He wants to use his talents, not just for recognition or personal gain but to make a positive difference in the world.
    He draws our attention to the human stories and dillemas, tragedies of our times. He says; listen! Look here! These lives MATTER! We should be trying more to prevent such tragedies, prevent such waste of innocent lives.

    The mark of a true Renegade is when you share his work with someone you love. Good on you, sir.
    I've never heard or thought of Ren as a Cross between the Robin Hood rooster and Witcher's Jaskier, but that's a pretty accurate description (he's more than that, but you're still absolutely accurate).

    Ren is certainly compelling.
    If you are thinking that Ren just has messages in his works, you are just scratching the surface and seriously underselling him.
    Ren does not impart messages; he encourages listeners to think for themselves and to openly discuss topics they would otherwise not think of or speak of. The more tough topics are discussed, the more chance communities have of discovering solutions to the problems Ren highlights.
    Ren is not telling us not to walk the streets at night. He is telling us there is a subculture of people on the streets who should not have be there if they had better lives. Jenny should not have been having to sell herself out of necessity. Screech should have had a safe and loving family home to go to...... That is the message Ren is imparting.

    In the lead up to Screech's Tale, Ren did some IG Reels on Screech's backstory. It gives you a bit of insight into why Patrick and the GF may not have had time for Screech. ua-cam.com/video/BICvZAS1FR0/v-deo.html - Recently a fan did Richard's Tale from the police officer's perspective, it's very good. ua-cam.com/video/TRz3xNtACWM/v-deo.html. Amazingly self-taught musician. The realization of the twins hits us all EVERY TIME. Generational Trauma is never easy. Jenny & Violet - Silent - Screech & Stevie - Violent - Jenny's tale was inspired by a news story that Ren read in a police blotter. The Tales took 2 years to complete. There are bridges between the tales on the streaming services that add another layer to the Tales. You can see him put on the minstrel's mask with each tale, Violet's being the most visible. Bardcore... - Late night filming. They were shouted down at least once to STFU.
