‘Modi is Not Caring Enough, It’s His Greatest Weakness’: Prashant Kishore I The Wire I Karan Thapar

Prime Minister Modi’s greatest weakness is “lack of benevolence” says Prashant Kishor, the electoral strategist widely credited for devising and executing the electoral campaign that got Mr Modi elected Prime Minister in 2014. Asked what he means by “benevolent”, Mr Kishor said “caring and forgiving.”
In the second part of his 2 part interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, Mr Kishor said Mr Modi’s greatest strength is his incredible experience. Mr Kishor pointed out that Mr Modi had spent 10-12 years as an RSS pracharak, another decade as a senior official in the BJP culminating as a party general secretary, 12 years as a Chief Minister and, now, 6 years as Prime Minister. This, Mr Kishor said, was the explanation for Mr Modi’s unique ability to know or sense what the people of India feel or think. “It’s the outcome of his incredible experience,” he said.
In the second interview, which is nearly 40 mts long, Prashant Kishor told the Wire he first began working with Mr Modi in 2012 as a public health consultant. During that time Mr Modi recognised Mr Kishor’s political talent and started to use it. Thus began the second stage of their relationship when Mr Kishor became a political consultant to Mr Modi. In turn that established Mr Kishor as India’s foremost political strategist. Since 2014, he has played a critical role in the election or re-election as chief minister of Nitish Kumar, Amarinder Singh, Arvind Kejriwal and Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Asked by The Wire if this meant Mr Modi both spotted and nurtured his political talent, Mr Kishor said he was aware of its existence from his university days but the opportunity to use it came through Mr Modi and then “one thing led to another”.
However Mr Kishor made clear there was no question of him ever working again with Mr Modi. “We have gone our separate ways.”
Speaking about the Congress campaign for the UP elections of 2017, which he masterminded and which is widely regarded as his only failure, Mr Kishor said the problem was Congress kept changing the target and as a result he had to keep changing the strategy. He said long before voting day he had realized that things were not going right and wanted to opt out but each time was persuaded to continue. Mr Kishor said he had learnt a lot from this experience but when asked if that meant how not to run an election he merely laughed.
In the interview to The Wire, Mr Kishor speaks about the role he plays when he takes on a campaign. He says he gets involved in all its facets including ensuring its proper execution. He works very closely with the chief ministerial or prime ministerial candidate and there is great trust and free expression between them.
Mr Kishor said he had refused to work with individuals or political parties far more times than he has agreed to take on their campaigns. Responding to the charge he is a ‘political mercenary’, Mr Kishor said in each of the campaigns he has managed the key or core element was an issue he agreed with and identified with. Asked how he explained the fact he had worked with Shiv Sena last year and is now working with Trinmool, two parties that are polar opposites, Mr Kishor said his association with Shiv Sena was small if not minimal.
Finally, speaking about his own future over the next two decades, Mr Kishor, who is 43, said he did not see himself as an MP of either house of parliament over the next ten years. His priority was to work at the grass roots. This was why he has launched the Baat Bihar Ki platform in February. He completely ruled out converting it into a political party to contest the Bihar elections which, if held on time, are six months away.
However Mr Kishor revealed he would be willing to become an MLA during the next 10 years because this is part of working at the grass roots.

Prashant Kishore is a great strategist, he is unbiased, he chooses his words wisely and so politically. I started admiring him. He is man of the hour.

t delivered on basic promises like (removing false narratives from History books), freeing temples etc. Protection against Alien aggressive religions etc. They have abandoned their loyal supports (Kashmir, Bengal being most notable).. if they can't distinguish between Swamy vs (N Sitharaman, Jaitley types).. they are making basic mistakes which ppl won't forgive. The only reason they are winning is because of lack of opposition.

@@asubmani Yeah obviously, if any political party is in dire need of a political strategist that means they only wants to will the election at any cost. But whats different in this guy (PK) is, he and his team does ground research and then makes sure the political party for whom he is working they acknowledge the problem of the people. That's where he is different from so called Chanakya Amit Shah and his party BJP.
@@knightbruh Yes, but IMHO doing ground research should be considered basic. My point is that since everyone else (journalists, politicians, IAS types) are so focused on short term goals. They miss obvious long term goals. So while someone like PK who does course correction is definitely a step in the right direction, it is just common sense. It is a sad reflection on our socicety that basic common sense is equated with "Exceptional greatness".. This is regardless of ideology and journalists, politicians, administrators (good and bad) are all part of it.
when Yogi went after molesters/hooligans etc. many said Yogi is great.. to me it is very basic. All indian govts have not done basic stuff to develop Bharat. It is ok to have a goal like Atmanirbhar.. but you can't achieve it with hammer and nail factory. A factory that produces Bullet and Ambasador vehicles cannot produce a Tesla. So here if some minister were to invest in Gigabyte style factories, recognize importance of AI etc. I consider it basic pre-requisite to progress.

These types of interviews makes sense to watch....unscripted and spot on !!!
I think still it's scripted. Karan did not touch some of tough questions, for example, what strategies that he followed and Karan did not criticise his strategies followed in the past elections.
It looks unscripted, because even Prashant kishor a great strategist was a bit uncomfortable... questions were great and he did reply nicely.....overall a great interview..

Prashant Kishor does not uttered a single word about VALUES and TRUTHS. He is too much acting on the phrase 'political strategist'.
In the case of Narendra Modi, before 2014, he promoted many false allegations. One among them is 1.76 lakh crores of Telecom scam. After winning of Modi, nothing happened in this scam.
Modi and Prashant Kishor used pro BJP Media (all most all media houses at national level) to crush congress. Now the same media does not bother about the 4.5% GDP growth rate which is all most 50% down compared with Manmohan's regime. Now the World Bank predicting that Indian GDP will go below 2%. Still that is OK for Indian media.
Prashant strongly believe in LIES. I will give 2 examples from Andhra Pradesh where PK worked with Jagan Mohan Reddy.
PK said Jagan fought with TDP and BJP combine which is an utter lie. The AP election was held in 2019 April 11th. A year before that TDP came out from the NDA government. In Telangana Elections (2018 December 7th), Chandra Babu Naidu's party TDP joined hands with Congress.
In the year 2018 and upto national elections, there was a bitter fight between Narendra Modi and Chandra Babu Naidu. Still PK saying that he worked for Jagan Mohan Reddy to fought with TDP and BJP combine.
PK is national level figure in politics. He should not detract from the truths.
In fact, Narendra Modi and Telangana CM KCR joined hands with Jagan secretly to defeat Chandrababu. Modi felt that Chandrababu may unite all opposition parties at national level if no party get absolute majority.
Second example.. Just before a month to Andhra election, Jagan's uncle murdered with axe. And Jagan's close family relatives tried to erase the evidences. Jagan and PK team said Chandrababu and his son Lokesh were behind this brutal murder. It was an absolute false allegation. It is an almost a year, Jagan being a CM of AP, nothing happened in this case. Why Jagan and PK team are not proving their allegations.
In sum up, PK does not have any values. He propagate unimaginable lies to get the advantage in election.
This type of guys are threat to Democracy

First point:He has a professional admiration for Modi, the title actually spoils the essence of his speech.
Second point: We truly need political coaches like PK for a country where maximum leaders are clueless about good governance.

Modi is a person who want to become immortal in history. For him, party 1st and country afterwards. Demonetization was done to win UP elections. I have reason to say this. India is a country with 80% Hindu population and marriages are fixed by pandita and that was marrige season, it was sowing season in agri sector . So why these factors were overlooked to do demonetization. Because UP elections (with an aye on 80 MP seats in future)were round the corner and model code of conduct would have come to force with election announcement. Now opposition parties were empty handed.
GST started without prepration and that also at midnight. I see it as to replicate Jawaharlal Nehruji famous mid night speech of 15th Aug 1947, 'Tryst with Destiny'. That's why a special parliament session was called at midnight and was said that India enters a new era with new tex regime.
Now lock down was announced on 24th March, waited up to 23rd march to form BJP govt in MP and didn't care thar corona endemic can spread in the mean time. The 1st case was reported in India on 30th Jan. This lock down is also totally without planning as poorest of poor are most affected and are starving in different parts of country. If special buses can take Gujarati tourists fro Haridwar to Gujarat and now more then 300 special buses can take home students from Kota to UP, why the poor people can't be sent to their homes. So Modiji only cares for his name and his party and his business men friends who fund his party and during these BJP years, the net worth of these a few persons increased manifold whereas country's economy is sliding downwards and people are loosing their jobs.

Well it's pretty obvious he cares only about his image and being popular and immortal considering he starred with Bear Gryllis in a survival show( and sadly most Indians don't realise gryllis is a fraud and disapproved by many health experts and continue treating him like a wise guy) takes one fraud to know another. And clearly he cares more about being famous than the welfare of ALL the people of India and not just only hindus and other non Muslims.
Everybody is entitled to their opinion based on their intellectual quality...
