New rider here. I figure I just have to be more careful because the Scout wins hands down for me. The looks are something HD can't compete with. I will be fine with slightly less handling and I can upgrade the shocks if I decide I need to. And since I am looking for a cruiser I am not really worried about having tech. I just want to ride and chill.
If I was a new rider and wanted something that looks like the Nightster I'd save four grand and by the Honda Rebel 1100, but yeah the Scout wins hands done with the Triumph Bobber and Speedmaster taking 2nd and 3rd depending on taste.
Sat on both, strong preference towards the nightster straight out of the gate from being used to low rise bars + mid controls. Obviously I can change that out on any bike but the Harley fit me like a glove. It does feel lighter as well. If the Harley dealers weren't so rigid on the Out-The-Door price I'd be on one right now.
I absolutely love the Scout and the Nightster. Something about a light weight cruiser with a bit of power finally, is what i love the most. I like the Scout a bit more but would be more than happy with either.
tbh i like the nightster better (got to take one home for few days) but the exhaust is the only bad thing i can say about the bike. going from a empty tank to full makes the bike feel lighter n handle better.
The Indian Scout Rogue is the cooler alternative - AND It costs about the same. The Indian gives a more premium feel. The details seem to be of higher quality. Harley-Davidson should have put some more work into the fit and finish on the Nightster. The "gas tank" / Airbox does not seem to fit gainst the frame. On the Indian Scout Rogue this is perfect. Harley-Davidson has filled up with plastic pieces in the back (of the airbox) - There are wires and components - unfortunately quite visible between the frame and the box. Also a bit strange that Harley-Davidson has slapped such a thick og bulky radiator in front of the engine? - The Indian Scout Rogue ... well, it just looks a lot better.
Glad to see HD finally made it out of the 20th century. 3rd bike was a scout and I loved it. 4th bike is a Challenger, Indian is doing it right. First two bikes were HD, btw.
My first bike will be a Scout. I fell in love with Indian back in the early 2000s and have wanted one since. Then they disappeared. So glad to see they are back and doing amazing things.
I was torn between these 2 bikes. As far as looks the Rogue definitely wins for me. However, me being a brand new rider the nightster felt easier to control and the added tech features made me feel that this was the bike that I can grow into better. So I went with the nightster
@@stubbingtonmarigold3032 the z900rs is not my type. The rebel 1100 is nowhere available and dealers are charging a premium that made it cost as much as an harley. @@flipkoofx1137 I think you made a good choice. They really should have been comparing the Nightster to the Scout 60 which is still 25cc larger than the Nightster. That would have been a fair comparison but the Nightster makes almost the same HP and TQ as the Scout with its 275cc advantage. I hope you enjoy it. I started on a 2016 Forty-Eight myself. I am a new rider. This video was super helpful to get your head around two outstanding bikes. I understood your point on engine cover on Harley, one side is finish and other side left behind. With that being said,in my opinion Indian bike engine area, seems my college car, lost hub caps. But that is small piece. Bike is awesome. Due to all the techs and more dealer network in Windy City, I am pick Harley Davidson. Thanks for awesome video.
Very good review. I prefer the Rogue. Price point and style for me help make that choice. I believe HD missed the mark on many things.... design, plastic, tech, price point.....etc. I'll be test riding both as soon as they come in to my local dealership. 👊
I like both bikes, both look great, I think out of these two I'd go the Harley, the extra bits of tech especially cruise control is a great addition, but if anyone gets either there isn't a wrong choice they're both stunning
While I see your points, I think crusie control on this bike is a waste. This nightster will never be a mile muncher, it's meant for around town and afternoon crusises through the twisties. My reason for thinking this is the tiny 3.1 gallon tank that is under the seat and can't be upgraded to hold more fuel.
I like the Scout a bit more, but I don't think I'd go for the rouge package. I'd have to ride them both back to back to see which one I like more, but I suspect it would end up being the Scout.
I'm a Harley lover and owner, but the win goes to Indian here. I'd even tell people to look at Rebel 1100 before the Nightster. Nightster looks like a Walmart bike, and is far too overpriced.
This two bikes cannot be compared to each other. Scout, beautifully finished, old school, Sportster homage built to be what a Sportster should be. The Nightster, modern, agile, amazing handling, (the V-rod and a Sportster had a child, the new Nightster). They are so different that cannot possibly be compared. They are both great. I got the Nightster because it meet my very personal style and handling preferences, but the Scout is also great bike.
The Harley has maintenance free hydraulic valve lifters -- automatic adjustment. It costs Harley more to manufacture, but they wanted their new bike to have it. The Indian doesn't ; it has shim adjustment with a recommended inspection/ adjustment interval of 20,000 miles, costing the owner hundreds of dollars each time. I suppose that's not a big deal to someone who doesn't ride much. I do like Indian's styling better, but between these two, I'd still have to go with Harley. But being old school, I still like my old Sportster best. It's not complicated, goes fast enough, and looks and sounds awesome.
I was about to go demo the nightster today, but didn’t due to cold weather. I can see it as a good beginner bike, moving up to intermediate level. I’ll definitely demo the rogue whenever my local dealer gets them in. Lucky for me, I’ve got a Victory Octane, which is faster than both bikes and probably handles just as good. (Only down side it doesn’t have the tech features like the HD.)
Me too!!…that is especially after a little bit of modification: RaceTech shocks & fork modified by GMD/ATL; JW Speaker headlight; 4” slant cut Vance & Hines slip ons. Pirelli Night Dragon tires replaced the worthless “Indian” branded Kendas…& when I can’t find them, Metzeler Cruisetechs. Love that little cruiser/rocket ship
you know, I really like Indian, but the people who were selling me the bikes were just Dicks, so I went to Harley and had the best experience ever buying a vehicle and couldn't be happier with the way I was treated and it made how I felt about the bike 1,000,000 times better, love Harley Davidson
Well i have been pondering this same issue for some time and today i decided to purchase the 2022 model. I do agree that the indian styling is beautiful and had made it hard but the nighster 975t came home with me.
The Nightster is made in Thailand so not American, Polaris has an assembly plant in Poland which supply Scouts to Uk/Europe but is mostly manufactured in USA
Revisiting this video after your Jan '24 review of Moore Speed Racing's custom bobbed Scout. Had my '17 Scout since new - although I only rode my BMWs last year. The Scout is a great bike and the standard (i.e. not the Bob er or Rogue models) haveli ver-travel suspension for a plush ride and full-lengthmudguards for better weather protection. As much as I tried to like the Harley I just didn’t bond the the new motor, that’s not to say it’s a bad bike it’s an amazing bit of engineering but I felt at home on the Indian Rogue better touring with the upgraded rear shocks and better two up, sound like a proper v twin engine and I actually will purchase one. It’s the scout for me thanks for the great work.
I'm a Scout owner and owned it before the Nightster existed. That being said, glad Harley is embracing more liquid cooled engines. Personally I trust Polaris on the manufacturing end more than HD, heard too many horror stories about Harleys constantly needing work and my Scout has been hassle free.
Only issue is technically the engine size makes the Nightster more comparable to the Scout 60. They just added all the fancy stuff like, the riding modes, Brembo brakes. All that to say, the add ons are nice, but to relate engine size to engine size, the prices are not similar at all. At the end of the day though, you ride these bikes for how you feel doing that, and the Scout lineup, in my opinion has been the best looking and feeling cruiser for the last few years. Perfect lines, great engine and keeping it simple.
Yeah, fancy stuff, like an actual fuel guage. Why would you ever want one of those on a motorcycle? Indian and Moto Guzzi, no fuel guage in this day and age? Sure, you can reset your trip meter and do some mental math. But why would you want to.
The Indian, hands down better looking bike & handles just fine with lots of pep & very nimble. Some of the newer (2018 +) Softail lineup are pretty nice but oh do you pay $$$
Rode my friends 2018 scout quite a few times. It's the better bike in terms of handling and acceleration, but the scouts seat feels like your sitting on a cinder block after 30 minutes of riding. Get an aftermarket seat for sure
When i would be looking for a "sporty ish" bike that i also could cruise on for short distances, i would rather compare it with the FTR1200 that is in the same price range as the Sportster. (In Netherlands €18500 cheapest model) And then, the choice would be sooo easy, FTR1200 hands down, eyes closed. To the scout, it is more close, but still the scout wins with ease.
I really wish at some point in the future people will STOP COMPARING DIFFERENT CLASSES OF BIKE. The FTR is a more expensive naked/standard, the Nightster is a cruiser. They're nothing alike. They're not made for the same purpose. Nobody is cross-shopping them. The Nightster competes with the Scout, the Rebel 1100, the Bonneville Bobber, etc. Besides that, how does the Scout win "with ease?" What does the Scout offer or do better? Be specific.
@@stevem4783 The FTR1200 is €2000 cheaper than the Sportster. FTR1200 is €16.500 and the Sportster is €18.500. Look it up at the Harlley dealer, it is listed under Sport bikes, not under cruisers.
@@MercilessGuitar151 Ever tried to cruise on a Sportster? you would be better of on a FTR1200. Even Harley Davidson is listing the Sportster under "SPORT"bikes, and not under CRUISER.
How does this compare to a Triumph bobber in your opinion? IMO, the Triumph is closer to the Harley in terms of spec and tech (TC, ABS, rider modes, cruise control) - the Indian doesn’t have all that. The triumph has less power though, at only around 77hp and 78 lb-ft torque. Both the Indian and Harley have more juice. But to be totally honest, as a Bobber Black owner, I’d go for the Sportster S as it’s the ultimate package with what seems to be the least number of compromises. At least on paper. Yet to ride Indians and Harleys, though, so maybe I’ll change my mind! :)
That harley-Davison is so disgusting between the tank and forks. Indian is 30% more pleasing to the eyes. The ascetic value of the Indian is the winner for me. I've been checking into all kinds of motorcycles for quite a while. Just started watching the maintenence of the Indian, and im still happy with it
Indian every time for me,every Harley dealer i have ever been into have been so far up themselves because I don't look like a typical harley rider. Indian dealers on the other hand even though I've said I'm merely window shopping have been superb.
I personally would go with the Nightster. I like the beginner aspect of it. No disrespect to Indian they make great bikes, but since I m a beginner rider i would choose the Nightster.
im on a 2018 t100 bonneville with 9500 miles on it .... im trading it in for the rogue it just feels like the right thing to do ... bike is just too damn sexy
@@dco956 The Octane is basically a Scout 2.0 with a nice shorter gearing amongst other things. Plus Victory is no more so it's a rarer motorcycle as well.
I like the Harley Nightster but coming from a Honda Rebel, the frame had a lot of similar designs which I didn’t really like. Also the seat was uncomfortable, and the exhaust sounds weak af, has a lot of amazing features that come stock though! I personally went with an Indian Scout Rogue Sixty. Got it for half the price as a new Nightster
I am a scout fan however, lets be honest, indian specs show crank hp. If you dyno the scout you will find it is around 83 hp. Still a great bike though.
The Scout range looks amazing, the Sportster S looks stunning but the Nightster looks like a Rebel 1100. Considering the Sportster S isn't that much more expensive and the Honda is much cheaper I think HD must've been on something when they decided the price point for the Nightster.
The Indian scout has a low fuel indicator light. I find that I can get at least 20 miles before I have to refuel once the light comes on. I don’t use the motorcycle for long distance trips so I don’t really miss having a fuel gauge. I do wish I had auto canceling turn signals but I can live without them.
My '19 Scout bobber has turn signal canceling, it drops the blinking signal when you shift into second. It won't if you are quick shifting though, so for awhile I didn't think it had it bc I was just slamming gears when I first got her bc I was so amped
I really don't understand how the design people at HD think. Instead of doing it right, they make covers in plastic to hide all the errors. There are wires, cables and hoses all over. Ugly covers over a radiator that doesn't fit in. The Indian on the other hand, that's a well designed bike. No problem for me to chose between the two. Between the Rebel 1100 and the Indian, that's another story! Maybe a story for you mr Bob?
Yeah that would be a fun video to make - as always it’s just getting the bikes. Having ridden both I’d go for the Indian tho. Cruisers need to have a bit of soul!
Sportster is going for close to $17k out the door US dollars anyway…. Not worth it anymore. I’ll dig one up with an Evo engine instead. I feel the scout is a much better option too. Modes and rider options are waste of money. If you don’t have enough sense to be gentle on the throttle when it rains, you shouldn’t ride.
I'd take the Nightster any day over the Scout, but I think both have pretty lousy price points next to a Honda Rebel 1100. so... if I had to make a judgement based on looks, features, and price... Rebel 1100 > Nightster > Scout ... but the Rebel and Nightster are near a toss up and only edges out that the Rebel is MUCH cheaper and has cruise control... and the Scout is no where close... it needs some major updates for me I'd never buy one.
Rebel 1100 reminds me of my old V-Star back in HS. UGLY DUCK... Indian Scout Rogue = Solid Bitchin' Powerful Cruiser > Suave >> Classy >>> WICKED INDIAN!!!! Yeah baby!

I like the Indian. The HD reminds me of the new Honda Rebel 1100.
I currently own a V-Rod among other bikes but the nightster may be in my future, years from now, when the prices come down a little bit
I pick the Nightster! 👍 (My back does not allow forward controls anymore).
There is absolutely no reason to not have a fuel gauge on a new bike. None whatsoever.
I personally would go with the Nightster. I like the beginner aspect of it. No disrespect to Indian they make great bikes, but since I m a beginner rider i would choose the Nightster.
Definitely the Scout!
Both just seem high for the level in the market. But I do like the looks of the Harley other than the exhaust
Either one, you won't think about choice. Choose what you prefer they both look cool!
I'm a harley guy. But i'd buy the indian.
Torn between the two of them. So I got the Rebel 1100 as it’s not pretending to be any thing other than what it is.
im on a 2018 t100 bonneville with 9500 miles on it .... im trading it in for the rogue it just feels like the right thing to do ... bike is just too damn sexy
Look into Victory Octane if you can't stretch the budget out for new bike.
They're alot bigger bike...I like these bikes....but I'm a budget buyer myself
@@dco956 The Octane is basically a Scout 2.0 with a nice shorter gearing amongst other things. Plus Victory is no more so it's a rarer motorcycle as well.
Rogue scout all day… that nightster is comparable to a Honda Rebel
I like the Harley Nightster but coming from a Honda Rebel, the frame had a lot of similar designs which I didn’t really like. Also the seat was uncomfortable, and the exhaust sounds weak af, has a lot of amazing features that come stock though! I personally went with an Indian Scout Rogue Sixty. Got it for half the price as a new Nightster
I am a scout fan however, lets be honest, indian specs show crank hp. If you dyno the scout you will find it is around 83 hp. Still a great bike though.
I'd be happy with any of the two models.
Your definitely going to get after some upgraded rear shocks and pips
I have to give the vote to the Harley Davidson😉 but I wouldn't say by much 👍
The real choice is between the Scout and the Rebel 1100.
The Scout range looks amazing, the Sportster S looks stunning but the Nightster looks like a Rebel 1100. Considering the Sportster S isn't that much more expensive and the Honda is much cheaper I think HD must've been on something when they decided the price point for the Nightster.
So went to buy the Indian and wound up with the Nightster. Love the look on Indian though
Luv the scout, at 4min 45 sec is that a scrape on the exhaust pipe?
I think I prefer the lower weight and more aggressive riding position of the Nightster. Harley have definitely made huge strides.
The nightster radiator looks like a microwave. The exhaust is bad. And not in a good way. The scout looks much better
I’d take the scout over the nightster. But I’d take the Sportster S over the Scout.
You really should compare both to the Honda rebel 1100 :) It seems these three are very close in specs :)
As a new rider I am gonna go with the scout
The Indian scout has a low fuel indicator light. I find that I can get at least 20 miles before I have to refuel once the light comes on. I don’t use the motorcycle for long distance trips so I don’t really miss having a fuel gauge. I do wish I had auto canceling turn signals but I can live without them.
My '19 Scout bobber has turn signal canceling, it drops the blinking signal when you shift into second. It won't if you are quick shifting though, so for awhile I didn't think it had it bc I was just slamming gears when I first got her bc I was so amped
@@aaronsalinas518 good to know! I’m gonna keep an eye out for it.
So, HD has caught up to the rest of the motorcycle design industry, circa 1994.
@@motobob The Rebel is probably better of the two...but if I could pick one of them for free, I would happily take the Indian 😁
Why we don't ever see the uglier left side of the engine on the Nightster?
I’d like to see bobber and café racer versions of the Nightster.
I like the Harley
Biggest fan Powamoto says let me test ride Dat Thang 🤟💯🔥🚀🤘👍
on indian we see metal engine. on hd we see grey plastic
Yeah baby!
Scout easy pick for me. HD did a horrible job with the exposed plumbing and wiring especially on the left side of the bike.
I’d go with the Indian.
I have the scout bobber my next is the chieftain or rouge. What’s a Harley ?
Luv d HD Nightster more..
Agree. Scout. And my previous was 2007 Nightster. Loved her . Really don’t like the engine look and the 3 style gizmos they put on the Nightster
