    Careful up there Gary.
I recently purchased a 21 foot Silky Hayauchi pole saw. Not cheap, but it cuts like a knife through butter. I feel a lot better cutting my queen palm fronds from the safety of the ground. Just have to be careful when cutting the seed pods; they drop from the sky like missiles!

I personally would leave the leafs on. But amazing job!

Little correction. Santa Catarina is not an island but a southern state of Brazil. They have the most southern natural ocurrences of the Queen palm and they also grow at higher elevations in foggy, rainy, moist hills. I'm not sure if Silver and Santa Catarina are the same variety though. Santa Catarinas are supposed to be more cold hardy which from what I've read has been confirmed by several growers in Europe and the southern hemisphere. In the most southern mountainous parts of Brazil temperatures regularly drop down to -5°C or around 25/23°F.

Funny, grade school nickname was "Bigfoot" due to my size 12 foot by 11 years old. Move to a new school, different kids, nickname became "Sasquatch" and often, "Chewbaca" cuz of the hairy legs, move to a third town and new high school, different kids, nickname became "Cro Mag". Work at an Italian restaurant and the owner called me "Animal". Go to college and the guys on the SDSU soccer team called me "Link". Go on a surf trip to Mex and the locals call me "Chupacabra", move back home, join an adult soccer league and the guys called me "Beast". Interesting how a consistent overriding theme of independent origin arose.

The way I trim Queen palms is to take a chainsaw to the base of the tree and cut horizontally until tee falls. Sorry I couldn't help my self, I really don't care for Queens.
