Thanks Syl... early in the week I buzzed out one signal decoder and in the process two others are not working properly.... Its at my busy BNSF diamond in Stockton.... I pretty much had to walk away from it... there is always something going on with them... Have a good weekend DD 😜
There is only one problem Randy... those are NJ international Signal heads.... I bought a bunch for $1.25 ea. yrs ago but they dont make them anymore...Oregon Rail Supply makes them but they are smaller so I think only 2 LED's would fit... THose Atlas Darth Vader heads are really nice .. good luck. and feel better... DD 😜
Boy Dave, I’ve got a long way to go yet until I even think about a signaling system, but this infro is very informative 👍& you definitely have got me thinking of stuff I need to pick up,I’ll know that I will be looking at this vid a lot 😊, electrical & lighting& signaling are not my strong points but will learn. Enjoy your vids , you take care Dave. 👋😎🛤🚂
THanks so much Jeff..... I hope your family is doing okay.... what a mess down there! btw I just made an addition to my description only if you wanna take a look at it.... Have a great weekend buddy! DD 😜
Im glad I found it on one of my SD cards... I should have walked out to my shop and shown the real thing... I was too lazy... That was an original piece of paper I had but I threw it away as one of my cats pee'd on it.... Im sure you needed to know that.. 🤪 DD 😜
THanks so much Gary... it was alot of work but they look good on the layout and it only took me a couple minutes to wire them to my Bus line... Have a great weekend!! DD 😜
Highball 10th Street, CP RV001 Double D! So that's how you build your signals from scratch! Sweet! I'm planning to do the same thing with my Bachmann and Model Power signal bridges. I've seen plastic versions of those target signal heads on eBay and they look pretty good. I was thinking of picking up some and trying them out. Before UP went and replaced most of the old SP and WP signals, you can see those type of signal bridges around The Bay and Sacramento. I think there's still that type of bridge by the Davis Depot at CP RV077 on the east end by the interchange track with the Cal Northern. Nice job on the finished signal bridge! Take your early quit and have a cold one!
Thanks so much I just put in the description that NJ stopped making those heads years ago... I have one pack of Oregon Rail Supplies heads but they are smaller and maybe only 2 LED's could be stuffed in them.... btw I just went on Google Earth to see if that bridge and search lite signals were there... it was... whenever they took that pic clip...there was one at Elvas as well... in fact one day it was raining and I noticed the red light was dark (out) on the opposite track and the signal maintainer was in his lil house and I said "I hate to tell you this especially in the rain but your red bulb in out on the #1 track" He just said its okay... Stay marked up and have a good weekend... DD 🤪
Dave, I have many HO Tomar SP lower quaudrent style semaphores but I don't know how to make them operate, you should check out Tomar Signals, lower and upper quaudrent semaphores. Their out of Washington State, you should goggle them! They have all kinds of Signals! If you ever make a video how to make these Semaphores work, I will learn how to make them come to life! 😎 you rock Dave!
I kinda wonder if that C&NW Semaphore I was talking about was by Tomar.... Ill look into it... I wonder if Azatrax has something to make them operate them properly 'cause I dont know either.. I wish I could make a video.... good luck and thankyou for the info... Happy Sunday! DD 😜
Hey Brian I checked out their website and sure enough they are the ones that have that C&NW semaphore and also have the mechanism to make them work, its #870.... do you have an-online Hobby Shop that you bought them from or did you go direct thru Tomar?? DD🤔🤗
@@daylightdave9405 Hey Dave, I actually bought all mine off of Ebay.( private owners) I saw your CNW lower quaudrent semaphore on the Tomar site, pretty cool looking signal! My old SP style signals are the #H-841 and #H-860. I have a few of both styles. I've seen the device your talking about that operates them, just always wondered if it would be easy or difficult to install it? Have a great Sunday Buddy!
@@brianbenson1973 That I don't know... Im going to call Tomar early next week to see if they have them in stock... I'll probably get 2... like I mentioned I would see them alot on the C&NW in the Milwaukee area.. especially on the Lake Shore sub. Even saw a commuter train once going N. to Green Bay.. they eventually changed out the signals to strictly 3 lights then later they took out all signals and made it Track Warrant Territory.. Thanks again and I'll check out your signals! DD. 😜🤗
Thanks so much and here I thought people wouldnt be interested in it.. I just tried calling NJ International to see if they could re-make those signal heads and apparently they are in FL and phone service is out.... Ooooh well.... I wish the best for those people down there... Have a great weekend... DD 🤗
That is awesome DD!! Sometime soon I'll get into making some signals. Maybe on a rainy day or my upcoming layoff season🤦♂️🤷♂️🤣 Great job and thanks for sharing. Happy modeling!! -Jason
@@jaybird111207 Guess what!!!! I was thinking I had your address in the old e-mail but I dont.... can you shoot me yours again too....??? the way this is going the car will show up back on my door step a week later again.... 😃 🤪 🤣
Dave, Looks great I see you use NCE Light-ITs. My entire signal systems has NCE Light-ITs lost count on how many I have now good to see others using the same
I have a ton of those Light-its as well... easy to hook up.... on sum of my control points I add light sensors and relays in combination with the light-its so they are more realistically functioning.. Have a nice weekend Tom! DD 🤗
Great video DD forwarded to a friend who is just starting to mess with signals. Heck I'm far enough along to actually start myself 🤔. Have you ever thought of using liquid electrical tape to close up the back of the signal to prevent bleed through? Have seen it done that way, I found out through a friend he was a electrical engineer. I'm not🤪
After I stuff the LED's in I use white glue in the back to hold things together intentionally so there is slight bleed thru and if an operator is working the yard and another guy is on the main he does not have to bother the yard guy... he can see the signals from the back side... again they are not over bearingly bright like the front side. Thankyou for the idea of the liquid tape though... have a good weekend... 😜 DD
For years that signal bridge has been sitting there without signals.... its just one of those things I had to get motivated on! The wiring is the biggest pain in the butt! Thanks and good luck with the track work which is fun!! Take care DD 😜
Dave, when you worked for SP, did you ever have any experience with SPs old lower quaudrent semaphores? I'm sure UP removed them all from former old SP lines, like G and W did here on the old SP Siskiyou line ( here in Southern Oregon Medford) back in 05? I've seen old SP blue prints of their crossbucks as well, very similar to WPs.
I hate to burst your bubble lol but I hired out in 1998 right after the UP-SP merger so no I did not... Ive only seen pics and real ones in museums but as a young kid I lived in N. Milwaukee and would ride my bike about 2 miles to the C&NW in the 70's and watch the trains and their unique upper quadrant semaphores. It was cool watching them drop to red when the train went by them. Like an idiot I think it was NJ international made a run of them and I did not buy a couple but if they make them again Ill jump on them... I think Im gonna call them this morning... 🤪 Have a good weekend. DD 😜
Hey Brian.... here is a quick add on... I just tried calling them and apparently they are in FL and the phone system is completely down.... Ill try again in a few weeks.... DD 🙃
