Sweet update DD!! Cats 🤦♂️ I feel you pain or have at least with my past layout builds. This new layout I have I've been pretty fortunate not having any problems with Cuddles YET!! 🤦♂️😅 Look at Holly comforting crash cart 🤔😅🤪 I just went to Home Depot this morning and picked up 2 more pieces of the backer board/hard board. 7.37 a board🤦♂️ I remember I could get a board for under 5 bucks not to long ago. 🤷♂️ Anyways your layout is looking awesome and definitely look forward to watching your progress with the scenery. Thanks for sharing and have a good day. Happy modeling!! -Jason 🤟🤙😎
I'm with you Jason as I was @ HD on Sunday and looked @ their 3/4" 4x8 sheets of Plywood and back when the economy crashed in 2008 I bought 5 sheets for $100.. now they would cost me $380 and dont look as good as to what i bought... luckily I'm pretty much past the lumber part except for more fascia stuff.. yea crash cart had a good nite.. 🤪🤑🤗 DD
Cats are or can be mischievous 😸😼😺but still love them👍, your landscaping is going to look great when you get done with it, you’ll come up with a good plan👍. Looking at your layout is giving me a bunch of ideas 🤨🧐as always 😄😆😁, great football action today for sure Dave, Wash/ NY tied in OT, Balt 10 Denver9 (tight one )& PAC’s 28 Bears19👍👍🏈, Chief’s losin to the Bengals bummer, Manhomes great QT win or lose.👍 Well Dave ,buddy have a great week ahead, looking forward to seeing your progress of scenicing ,take care.🍻👋😎🛤🚂
Yea I saw the Packers won.. I didn't get the game and since it was an early game didn't go out to catch it.. here I thought they would lose after losing to Detroit.. I did watch the 49ers win.. that was fun! See ya 🐬! 😊 Have a good week Jeff DD
Very nice Dave. My new rabbit is a electronics expert too, she knows which wires stop operations. I used real dirt on my dirt track, I got it from up the hill from my place, it gave me the color I wanted too. To to the track, I used an old Matchbox roller, and some of the old trucks, to give me that effect you are looking for. Just a tip. With the bridge piers, to save money. I used Lego to make plaster molds for the tall piers. This way I was able to make them custom fit on that spot. I will show this sometime next year. (I still need to confiscate some Lego from the neighborhood kids lol). Looking great Dave, catch ya. Arty
Yea sum good tips thankyou especially the Lego one.. I did two plaster tunnel molds way back when and still have them but they don't look as good as the store bought ones so they just sit in a box.. someone mentioned sifted sand so I'm gonna try that first.. cheap and easy.. 🤑😜 DD
Oh no Double-D! Crossing activation failure! Gotta treat that as an X-S, train must stop and flag the crossing before proceeding! Scenery looking good around Pleasanton! Earth tone grout would be my recommendation for doing a muddy service road too! Good luck repairing those crossing signals!
I think I told you this story but we did have a stop and protect order at that very xing... so Im on the ground (conductor) and up comes #14 @ track speed and blows thru the xing... I kept my mouth shut... not sure if they had the order for sure or not!... I ended up protecting them as well... 🤪 DD
@@daylightdave9405 Oh wow! I'm pretty sure they had to protect that crossing if you were out near Fruitvale/Coliseum! They're lucky this was before cameras were installed on the head end. Ya that's the first I've heard of this story and from working with some Amtrak engineers out of Sacramento, it doesn't surprise me that they highballed the X-S order!
@@ApproachDiverging013 They must have had the order out of SLO... Since I was a conductor it was between 12/98 and 6/04 and I do remember it was nite time... If I said something on the radio it would have all gone down,.. We had a xing order at that xing on the Coast Sub just North of the Newark Triangle and crawled up to it and noticed all the gates and all the lights were functioning properly and it was protected my MOW Track guys with Red flags on each side so as a Pilot to a fellow engineer I told him we can just crawl thru it... Not 10 minutes later the dispatcher gave us a cell # to call and turns out it was a track mgr and he said we were supposed to STOP anyways... He wasn't happy but we handled it over the phone and apologized... thankfully end of story... I never did that again!!... 🤪 DD
@@daylightdave9405 ya even if the gates, lights and bells are working, an X-S or X-G means you treat the crossing as if it was an activation failure and flag it. There were plenty of Amtrak conductors that didn't realize this. Even if there is an MoW or flagman present, you have to stop and protect the crossing UNLESS they convey to you over the radio that they are flagging you through and crossing is clear. Glad to hear the track manager didn't try to charge you guys. There was a San Joaquin crew that was accused of highballing an X-G, (box 2 on the BNSF) near Denair after a stack train went on the ground. But after an FRA rules instructor reviewed the charge letter, he determined the crossing was out of service and blocked off from traffic (had the concrete barriers and signs marked "Road Closed" and therefore the box 2 was unnecessary because the crossing was blocked off from traffic already. So the charge letter was dismissed.
@@ApproachDiverging013 oooh that was good.... we had a UP Rules Examinor and every once in a while they would get involved... I always thought that would be a cool job.... its like you're the Judge and Jury!! 😜 DD
DD, me and my buddies we tried grout for roads. Didn't like they way it came out. Perhaps you will have better luck. For a dirt road, there is no better way to go about it than real dirt. Cats are great except when they become Katzilla
I stopped @ HD yesterday and a box was $21 while a medium size tube was $9 so I scratched it... maybe dirt or just buff ballast... thanks for the input.... 😜 DD
@Daylight Dave HHMMM two options Dirt easy to get and cheap. But you should really sterilize it before use. Gotta get a cheap baking pan. Turn the oven on bake the dirt for a bit to kill any critters. Buff colored ballast rip open the bag and go to work. 🤔🤔🤔 A little Jeopardy music, and unless you have the dirt, go with the ballast. Remember Model Railroading is Fun🤪🤪🤪 have a good one DD
DONT CUT THE TOWERS!!! That kind of looks like the bridge over highway 80 in Auburn and THATS a steep cliff, also maybe modeling the highway in there could bring up the bottom some..?🤷♂️ Awesome work though man, really love your switching vids 👍
If interested on ebay the seller WeHonest has inexpensive grade crossing signals. They have a threaded base an nut which gives you a pretty sturdy base.
Thanks so much Jeff... I currently have enough and was able to get that one back up and running. i do need a couple flasher units... Walthers hasnt put any out in a few years now... Take care 🤗 DD
Yea Im not going to cut those towers!! 🤪 You reminded me of a funny story.... Im running my F-Units over that bridge and they just about took a nose dive as my cat knocked the piers out of alignment... oooh boy! Oh Randy J is gonna come over next month and bring me a bunch of Porta Potties.... Im so excited... lol... DD 😜
Excellent update Dave, have a great week our friend! (Dave).
You too buddy... rain is gonna stop today... ⛈ DD
