@@therewasnoattempt8373 You mean SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab? I personally like this video game and would argue it's worth checking out. Although the game is weird and has long levels. If you haven't done so already, I would recommending watching UA-cam user Fred5107's review of SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab. He has the best review of this game on UA-cam which might steer you in the right direction.
I certainly loved this game Sure it wasn’t perfect. The graphics may be dated and the tone is a bit dark and surreal, but I still consider it a fun game to play (especially considering it came out after the first movie and the show was on its 4th season at the time)
The idea of SpongeBob going to worlds with one specific character as the focus sounds awfully familiar to what the Cosmic Shake is beginning to sound like, but that game is focused on dimensions rather than dreams.
21:53 That game concept is dated May 6, 2005, the same day that SpongeBob Season 4 premiered with the episodes "Fear of a Krabby Patty" and "Shell of a Man."
I honestly prefer the Movie game as the best game in the series, but I just love CFTKK’s atmosphere so much, and I replay it often. Way more often than bfbb and the movie game
Then I highly recommend playing if you haven’t: Battle for Bikini Bottom, the movie game, Cosmic Shake, the DS Atlantis Squarepantis and if you’re looking for something different: Beach Party cook-off for the DS!
Who needs Normal I'm gonna straight up tell you this: if you keep up content like this your gonna be something REALLY big! Keep up the great work and stay safe man! :)
It feels like the focus of the team slowly shifted from dreams to nightmares which I.. really don't mind! It gives such an unique flair to this game! Having a Spongebob game with a slightly dark atmosphere is honestly very cool and not only makes for a very varied plot but also for an amazing ambiance, especially inside the Alaskan Bull Worm imo! Also, great work on this video & the BigSky one! I just watched them both yesterday and they were really entertaining and well-documented! I look forward for your future stuff as you gained a subscriber! ^^
This game creeped me out as a kid, but in a good way. I had an absolute blast playing it as a kid. That fucking Krabby Patty scared the hell out of me, so it was really cathartic for me getting to play as a 50-foot tall Plankton and getting to terrorize that stupid burger, chasing it across town while smashing everything, before switching to SpongeBob and Patrick to fight Plankton for the finale. It was one of the last good SpongeBob games before the Battle for Bikini Bottom remake.
I'm so glad I found your video on revenge of the flying dutchman yesterday, lead to this too. Never played either game. a history on blitz games (and a mini documentary on codemasters technically) was super interesting. Keep it up.
Heeey man! Been subbed to you for a couple years lol. I actually tried to reach out and ask if I could use your footage when working on the Dutchman video before I had the means to record my own, but it all worked out haha. Glad you liked them. My next two videos are on a different Nicktoons series and then a Disney property, but I plan on doing SuperSponge in the near future.
@@WhoNeedsNormal Hey, that's awesome to hear. I would love to see SuperSponge, since I just recently played through that game for the first time and even though I didn't play it as a child I thought it had something. Sorry that's just not my style. It was important to me to explain where the company came from and I like to be thorough. Maybe I'll add chapters later if I get a chance.
Creature from the Krusty Krab will always have a special place in my heart, as a strange, beautiful mess of a game. It has its issues, and I won’t argue. I know a remaster could iron out a lot of these issues, but that doesn’t seem like it could happen anytime soon. As the game currently stands, I absolutely love it. It has that silly Spongebob charm, along with that spooky dreamlike trippy-ness with it- and that alone makes me appreciate it so much. I absolutely just love Starfish-Man, being able to partake in Plankton’s shenanigans, and drive around a gritty version Bikini Bottom in Spongebob’s dream scenario. OH and especially the MUSIC~ That aspect was done so much justice. I hope that someday, they do remaster the game and give it the fullest justice possible. :)
I remember back in August 2019, I watched your Big Sky Interactive video. It was so high quality for such a small channel. Sadly, I forgot about your channel in 2020. When I was watching a video about various SpongeBob games, I remembered that there was this documentary about Big Sky. I'm so glad I found you again. I hope you channel soars high, have a great day man.
Really liked the video. It's so interesting seeing so many ideas planned that sadly were never realized either due to time or budget contrains, some of it really reminds me of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (which I'm a big fan of). Blitz may not always have had the best programming or level designs in most of their games, but it's the creativity of their concepts and usually great music that somehow keeps me coming back to some of their titles, and Creature is one of them even if it's not even in my top 5 SpongeBob games. Other games from them that I think would make for interesting future videos are Pac-Man World 3 (which is reported to have had a VERY troubled but still somewhat unknown development history) and Tak and the Guardians of Gross (more specifically the early concepts that were more similar to the first three games and were about the four main elements of nature), the latter of which I will keep saying is not as bad as most of the series' fans insist. But for now, feel free to work on other things you personally want or maybe even take a brake if you feel like it. Regardless, I wish you the best luck.
It’s a shame how underrated you are! Other documentarys id like to see is a video with all of supersponges cut content, the rise and fall of thq and a video on heavy iron. Id love to see more documentarys on more regular gaming stuff
32:25 Yea, I agree with you on the art style being kinda disturbing. The fact the console version even has a 3D model transformation for it is kinda scary. It looked less disturbing on the DS and GBA versions. 33:46 Ok, this is definitely going to give kids nightmares.
43:36 It's unfortunate that the other characters didn't appear in the game and that there wasn't too much dialogue between SB, Patrick and Plankton, but at least we got some little interaction with Mrs Puff, Sandy, Squidward and Mermaidman in the DS version. :-)
So glad I came across your channel. After seeing your Big Sky video, I immediately subscribed. I loved this game growing up. It's not that bad. Its in my top 5 Spongebob games. So the original idea for the game was basically the episode Sleepy-Time but in game form. Cool. They REALLY wanted to get all the Spongebob crew into one big game like they did with Lights, Camera, Pants.

i have no idea how 40 Winks ganeplay is going to be like, it feels more like exploring-based inspired from Revenge of the Flying Dutchman instead of Heavy Iron Studios series action gameplay-like i thought if THQ Nordic ever want to remade 40 Winks, maybe they can keep Creature from the Krusty Krab's Heavy Iron inspired style gameplay but incorporated several elements from 40 Winks like companion character and SpongeBob's ability to morph into various objects. Since each dream only have one theme and SpongeBob can visit the dreams at anytime, the best way to represent this is to hava an Open world gameplay like Battle for Bikini Bottom as it seems that 40 Winks was intended to be more exploration than linear narrative. well i hope THQ Nordic can see this and make it into real deal... for the name, i guess they can keep the title Creature from the Krusty Krab - Rehydrated rather than uses 40 Winks. i felt that using Krabby Patty as the key plot is already interesting an keeping what SpongeBob plot should gonna be
The idea of “40 winks” reminds me of another game with a similar idea. That game would be Piglet’s Big Game. In that game, Piglet must travel to his friends dreams and do certain tasks for them. Such as getting Pooh some honey (of course) in a candy themed world, helping Owl find his memory book in a gigantic library, Find tigger’s stripes, in a world where everything is Tigger themed. Either way, “40 winks” could possibly be done, but the way I’d do it while maintaining elements from CFKK (Mainly the giant patty (as a villain) and giant plankton).
Thank you for this. I watched your video on flying dutchman a few months ago, And went to rewatch it again, Saw this and watched it as well. I'm very surprised that such a long string of events resulted in all this! And I'm even more surprised that blitz games helped make Breakin' Da Rulez and Shadow Showdown. Your videos are great, Keep it up!
Fantastic documentary so far I like how it starts, it made me... emotional. One thing I would really appreciate, is a list of the background music in the description.
I grew up with the DS version of CfTKK as well. I enjoyed it. But now that I look back on it, I wish they wouldn't have ""benefited"" from the DS's touch screen, because D-Pad controls would've been better in my opinion. Controlling Plankton was the worst, because he was so tiny and wouldn't move into the right direction but instead fall of a cliff.
I watch this and the revenge of the flying dutchman video every couple months, they are so good and deserve way more views. These obviously took a shit ton of research, dedication and time to make them. Thank you

Dude, I loved this video. I literally watched it in time for CFTKK’s 15th anniversary last year. The overall history of CFTKK is really fascinating, openly speaking as a researcher. Seeing how dedicated you were to explaining the important details is extremely admirable and respectable. Keep up the great work, man.
Fun fact, the design of the Spongebob racing levels and character designs when he, Patrick, Plankton and Gary are inspired by Ed "Big Daddy" Roth art style, a cartoonist and custom car designer famous by creating Rat Fink
Glover is underrated, had the a better camera than most platforms on the console, music is super catchy, and great set pieces. Also the speedrun is amazing, highly recommend watching some AML if you haven't.
This and your Big Sky video are great. I wonder what you could do with one about Awe Games. They made most of the PC versions of Spongebob games back in the day and there's very little info on them.
I believe this cutscene is actually supposed to be a backstory of sorts, showing how Gary got all of these wacky ideas, as well as the Krabby Patty which caused his weird dreams.
I'm not gonna lie, Creature From The Krusty Krab is in my top 3 favorite Spongebob games ever. There is so much personality, style, and love put into the game, and the gameplay is just pure fun. I love the ethereal dream-like quality, and vibe the game has, which fits because everything is in a dream. Lol I could gush about this game for too long so I'm gonna cut this comment short here.
I had this game as a kid and I remember liking the Diesel Dreaming level, which makes sense considering I'm a mechanic now, but the rest of the game was nightmarish to me and really didn't feel like Spongebob at all. I especially hated the Alaskan Belly Trouble level, I hate being inside living things and it was the longest level. I still have it and still find it weird and borderline horrific, just now I find the gameplay more boring and tedious than I remember. It has a really good soundtrack in my opinion though, Diesel Dreaming and Hypnotic Highway being my favorites. Excellent video by the way, really interesting to see where this bizarre piece of my childhood came from.
While I'm not personally a fan of how Blitz Games was doing super linear "beat up enemies, push buttons" platformers like Pac-Man World 3 during this period, I cannot agree with the reviewer who called the game unfunny. The French narrator lines in CftKK's loading screens are some of the best in the game, and they even use the correct voice.
Going to need more videos from you bro. You are so close to 1000. This conent is extremely interesting. I probably haven't watched a whole video through like that and subscribed and watched a whole nother in 5 years.
you forgot to mention that THQ & Blitz Games teamed up with MGA Entertainment to develop 4 Bratz games, Rock Angelz, Forever Diamondz, The Movie, and Girlz Really Rock.
Story: The story is unique unlike anything I have ever seen in a spongebob game before. It doesn’t really tell an overarching story, it tells mini stories from each of the characters but they all sort of link together. Yeah it is a little confusing but I think it suits the game. Gameplay: There are multiple different styles of gameplay present which does add a decent amount of variety and it doesn’t stray too far from the core concept of the game. Music: The soundtrack is really good. Each track suits the environment and it fits in well with the dream aesthetic. Flaws: Quite a few of the levels drag on for way too long and definitely outstay their welcome. It doesn’t help that the game likes to hold your hand constantly, the best example is in starfishman to the rescue when Patrick is constantly stopped for telephone calls every 5 minutes. This isn’t bad on a first time play through but was it really too hard to be able to skip the cutscenes on repeat play through? I have never played the Wii version but I hear the motion controls don’t control as well as it should. The visuals are also a little on the ugly side as it looks very foggy and unrealistic (starfishman to the rescue was the only decent looking level). Is it worth it?: Yes, I think so. It is a little different from BFBB and the movie game but blitz games did create an interesting product here. I think it is very under appreciated and more people should get to experience it. Overall: 6.5/10
the thing i respect the most about this game is the music, it's so amazing when it comes to "purpose" like themes, its something creators like toby fox do, were they mix certain elements of music for it to gain a certain feel, even thought this game's version of that is way way less subtle i still apretiate the silent sounding themes and then transitioning to the action based themes that are esscentially faster remixes of the slower ones.
Ir propale knew that SpongeBob Heropants was a thing, people would good scores for this underrated game. Personally I think it was a diamond that could be polished, and I would love if gets the Rehydrated treatment.
Honestly, that game is just a different experience compared to the original. If you really want to torture yourself, play one of the Activision SpongeBob games.
Spongebob game tier list, only the ones I've played. S: Atlantis Squarepantis, Creature from the Krusty Krab A: Battle for Bikini Bottom, Revenge of the Flying Dutchman B: C: Lights Camera Pants D: Spongebob TV game F: Boating Bash DS
Greetings from Italy! It's a bit sad that I've found your SpongeBob videos just now, but still it was an interesting experience to see what happened during the development of these titles. I wonder if you could do something with Truth or Square? I swear that some curious facts (and unfortunately cut processes) happened in the offices of Heavy Iron Studios too.
Heavy Iron has eluded me unfortunately. I've had multiple contacts reach out to them for me and I've never heard anything back. If I ever find anything worth talking about for one of their games I'll certainly do it, but unfortunately I am currently not able to find anything.
I enjoyed playing SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature From The Krusty Krab on Nintendo GameCube in 2016. I thought it was good. It may not be perfect, but it’s a good SpongeBob game.
(POTENTIAL SPOILERS): Having played Cosmic Shake (and being VERY impressed), I think Purple Lamp took ideas from: BFBB’s original ideas (two prominent pieces of cut content. BIG hint) The Movie Game (linear gameplay with backtracking) CFTKK (Costumes, and entertaining cutscenes to make the story complete, and a few other bits) and 40 Winks (traveling to wish/dreamworlds, and a few other things listed in the Pre-Draft presentation) If you liked BFBB, Movie game, and CFTKK, and are interested in 40 Winks, try the Cosmic Shake. You will be VERY pleased with what Purple Lamp has to offer
As I've started playing through Cosmic Shake, I have definitely had similar thoughts. I doubt they looked at the 40 winks pitch when making the game, but you can definitely feel its DNA there. The wish worlds are exactly the same as I imagined the original dream worlds would have been. It's a lot more narrative focused and has you doing tasks for specific characters, rather than trying to collect spatulas or whatever. Patrick is your companion, and there's a lot of that back and forth dialog. It's pretty cool to get a game that uses so many of those concepts, even if they weren't intentionally looking at 40 winks.
I mean, you never know. Maybe someone on their team watched my video during the first Rehydrated Relief and got inspired by Blitz Games' ideas. But I think it's just a coincidence
I'm currently in the middle of playing The Cosmic Shake, and it is just all around wonderful. Now, comparing this game to CFTKK, both games have incredible concepts. However, The Cosmic Shake's ideas feel much more properly implemented and expanded upon, compared to CFTKK which feels like Blitz Games spent all the budget on ideas and ran dry for the actual game.
@@WhoNeedsNormal Your channel is a success like whenever I went to the revenge of the Flying Dutchman videos, people were talking about your video no joke

I actually understood the Ratfink artstyle in CFTKK when I was little because my dad took me to auto shows when I was little.
This and your Big Sky video are great. I wonder what you could do with one about Awe Games. They made most of the PC versions of Spongebob games back in the day and there's very little info on them.
41:48 I have no words for these extremely random cutscenes at the end of this game. I didn't see this coming lmao
I believe this cutscene is actually supposed to be a backstory of sorts, showing how Gary got all of these wacky ideas, as well as the Krabby Patty which caused his weird dreams.
Great video! I loved it!
Very interesting information.
Lol
I could gush about this game for too long so I'm gonna cut this comment short here.
Never really noticed that CFTKK was developed by Blitz Games until recently, only things I really knew them for is the two FOP games and Chicken Run.
This is truly the moment that Who Needs Normal released his second SpongeBob Video (he needs to make more SpongeBob videos)
Amazing content
I would love if you uploaded more content. I will share and tell more people about your videos! You’ve got a great channel.
Probably the only person who saught after a video like this, fantastic work
While I'm not personally a fan of how Blitz Games was doing super linear "beat up enemies, push buttons" platformers like Pac-Man World 3 during this period, I cannot agree with the reviewer who called the game unfunny.
Are you planning on coming back? I really like your content. Very informative.
Yes. I've had a lot of health issues lately but I intend on making more stuff soon.
@@WhoNeedsNormal Cool. Personal health comes first and I hope you're doing better.
@@WhoNeedsNormal I hope you feel better
I wanna see SpongeBob 40 Winks become an actual game
At least we got Psychonauts and Piglet's Big Game, right...? 😅
Dream plot aside, this was a great analysis.
Ir propale knew that SpongeBob Heropants was a thing, people would good scores for this underrated game. Personally I think it was a diamond that could be polished, and I would love if gets the Rehydrated treatment.
If you want to see an actual bad SpongeBob game, play the PC version of CfTKK - alternately titled Nighty Nightmare. 💀
Honestly, that game is just a different experience compared to the original. If you really want to torture yourself, play one of the Activision SpongeBob games.
@@Q1_Enjoyer What games did they do?
@@KrabbyPatty Plankton's Robotic Revenge and the 2nd movie game
Oddly enough, I didn't think Plankton's Robotic Revenge was bad, just way too short
@@KrabbyPatty Activision did Plankton's Robotic Revenge and SpongeBob HeroPants.
when he said they made dizzy it was such a plot twist, like "THAT dizzy??? the one from avgn???"
Aaah. CftKK was a blast in my childhood.
Please do the review of Atlantis Squarepantis :) :)
39:43 I think that issue is only in the GameCube version of that game. In the other versions, they move a little bit.
your videos are freakin great you're super underrated
Spongebob game tier list, only the ones I've played.
S: Atlantis Squarepantis, Creature from the Krusty Krab
A: Battle for Bikini Bottom, Revenge of the Flying Dutchman
B:
C: Lights Camera Pants
D: Spongebob TV game
F: Boating Bash DS
Came here after you got a shoutout from Shadow Streak
Checks the time: Oh boy 3AM!
I'd love a video on the development of BfBB or the Movie Game.
I find it interesting that the Oliver twins partially made game modding a clearly legal thing with the Game Genie.
We need normal, that's who!
Honestly, the original concept seems pretty interesting
But I still like the game
I enjoyed playing SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature From The Krusty Krab on Nintendo GameCube in 2016. I thought it was good. It may not be perfect, but it’s a good SpongeBob game.
I love this game its the game from my childhood
Creature from the krusty krab is a pun on the movie creature from the black lagoon
Love this game
(POTENTIAL SPOILERS):
Having played Cosmic Shake (and being VERY impressed), I think Purple Lamp took ideas from:
BFBB’s original ideas (two prominent pieces of cut content. BIG hint)
The Movie Game (linear gameplay with backtracking)
CFTKK (Costumes, and entertaining cutscenes to make the story complete, and a few other bits)
and 40 Winks (traveling to wish/dreamworlds, and a few other things listed in the Pre-Draft presentation)
If you liked BFBB, Movie game, and CFTKK, and are interested in 40 Winks, try the Cosmic Shake.
Reggie: Breature from the Krusty Karb!
Did Reggie say that? 😂 I didn't watch any of Nintendo's promotion.
The trailer for Spongebob: The Cosmic Shake looks like it will be what 40 Winks would have been.
You know I thought the same thing. It certainly has similar elements based on what we know.
Do “The Story of Heavy Iron Studios”
and now all of Blitz Games development stuff is being archived by somebody with permission from the Oliver twins, what an ending to Blitz's history
That guy is a really toxic person, but it's good to know he is finally posting the stuff he convinced them to send him.
@@WhoNeedsNormal Wait someone is archiving Blitz Games dev stuff, but they are really toxic?
What's going on? I'm really curious.
imagine if thq nordic gave creature the bfbb treatment... i mean they never will but imagine...

I have the Nintendo DS version and I liked it though I don't understand why it uses touch screen controls rather than the buttons. It would also be great if the GBA version gets added to Nintendo Switch Online in a surprise update.
let's GOOOO
Ill admit I this game did scare me at parts.
Honestly Cftkk was weird but it was still a great game not as great as bfbb/the movie game or lights camera pants but a great game as a launch title for the wii. Highly deserves a rehydrated version
The only good Spongebob platformer game outside of heavy iron studio
Super Sprint was actually published by Atari Games, not Activision.
I don't recall saying who published it, but the point was Daylight developed the game
