I’m looking forward to this series of videos. Short and to the point. In particular why your preference is using half measurement is for inches rather than using centimetres. For me, inches are easier to judge on the table rather than calculate what 18 or 24 centimetres is in inches as I still think in imperial measurement. Being a napoleonic wargames mainly since 1970 I tend to be more strict about ground scales (one inch = 20 yards) then unit frontages, musketry and artillery ranges, and all the effects that they have on a game. Also if 1” = 20 yds. = 720 inches or. a ground scale of 1/720th. And a figure scale for 28mm miniatures = 1/56th. which also includes buildings. So saying you have a barn measuring 10” x 4”it will easily hold 6 bases wide x 2 bases deep. That same barn is 46’ 6”which may well be your extreme musket range so the easy way is to agree that the barn is actually a built up area represented by the barn. It’s easy to agree this before the game starts before a heated argument develops during play. The other thing is hedges and fences. A snake rail or five bar fence will not provide soft cover from musketry so no minus for musketry fire, but that same fence will give some feeling of security while firing a musket while behind it. Hedges are more or less the same. I suppose you can be unseen while behind a hedge but the moment you make your presence known you become a target.

I like your idea of having ranges. I still haven't played a game of Warlord's ACW but when I do, I think I'll follow your lead on the ranges. I look forward to seeing your other "epic" videos.

Only difference we use is NOT halving command ranges. Because the unit frontage and base sizes remain the same, we found that halved command ranges really skewed towards more units getting penalties to command. Didn't suit the feel of ADCs running around to nearby units giving orders.
Great, thanks for the comment and feedback. As I use 3 stands for standard units, I found that 6” works ok for command ranges, but that’s the good thing about Black Powder, it’s fairly flexible, so whatever works for your set up and preference etc. appreciate the support 👍🏻👍🏻
Brilliant, as I start to learn to play Blackpowder with the ACW that I am busy painting at the moment :). I think the change to the weapon ranges etc works great on a 6x4 table.

The ranges you mention sounds more like a 28mm game instead of an Epic scale game, which is why halving the ranges works so well.

Thanks for sharing! Black Powder is not a good ruleset to play ACW. My go to ruleset is With Hot Lead and Cold Steel
