    There are 7 wonders in Rome: Total War. Here is my opinion on how good each wonder is and how to get them in a campaign.
    In this episode of Game Guides, I will be talking about the seven wonders in Rome: Total War and their benefits/how to get them. This game guides series consists of short, to-the-point gaming commentary videos that teach players how to accomplish certain tasks in different games.
    The seven wonders are:
    1) Statue of Zeus at Olympia
    2) Colossus of Rhodes
    3) Hanging Gardens of Babylon
    4) Mausoleum of Halicarnassus
    5) Temple of Artemis at Ephesus
    6) Great Pyramids and Sphinx at Giza
    7) Pharos (Lighthouse) of Alexandria

    If religious buildings were as expensive here as they are in medieval 2, reducing the cost by 30% would be a bigger deal

    The gold Zeus in Corinth and the colossus of Rhodes are hands down the best wonders to have. Increase in loyalty and increase in trade. The pyramids are also good because they allow you keep loyalty over the Egyptian region which is the most fertile land in the game.

    And that's why Kydonia is so important -- it's the springboard to taking the most powerful wonders.

    I wish CA had done more than just the 7 wonders. For example, Stonehenge would have made the British isles a more interesting area of the map. Or Rome's Colisseum.

    • @BetaDude40
      @BetaDude40 4 роки тому +10

      The Colosseum couldn't have been added into the game, as that was only beginning construction 72 AD, about 300 years after the game actually starts.
      Stonehenge might've been interesting though.

      @@BetaDude40 although you are right I don't know whether CA would actually objected to that. I mean maybe but although there are some nods and references to "lesser known facts" of history you just have to look at the factions of Rome and the Greek city states or the army of Egypt there all historical accuracy was just thrown out of the window just pure for gameplay sake and I think it was a good call although there might have been better ways to keep "the balance" or to make it interesting enough.
      Anyway I don't know whether it not being there at the start of the campaign would have been enough of an argument, I think they just thaught that they would include the 7 wonders and then putting some other famous "ancient wonders" un top of it would subtract of that, just guessing though.

      @@Chris11231 There is recent evidence that the Hanging Gardens of Babylon did existed but we were simply looking in the wrong place. There is a theory that has major evidence to back it up due to recent discoveries that Hanging Gardens were never in Babylon but were instead in Nineveh and were built by the King Sennacherib of the Neo-Assyrian Empire instead of King Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon

    I'd actually switch Mausoleum and temple of Artemis. At the start of the game you don't have any city that would be able to construct a building that takes 5 turns or higher. Temple of Artemis gives its bonus from the very start of the game, saving you lots of money as temples become more and more expensive. If you go from a shrine to pantheon in one city, TOA will save you 3720 denari. If you have an empire of, let's say, 28 provinces, the amount of saved cash would be 104160. Combined with Mausoleum, your temples would be both cheaper and go up faster, leaving you both cash and time to create other buildings.

    • @Qladstone
      @Qladstone 3 роки тому +2

      The bottleneck usually is building time rather than building cost in mid to late game. To make a military province that makes all your top tier troops while also having good public order and trade it takes 50-100 turns. Reducing that by 10-20 turns is quite a big deal I feel. In early game of course the Mausoleum would be better.

    • @VonKrauzer
      @VonKrauzer 3 роки тому +1

      @@Qladstone I think it relies more on a style of play. I tend to be very aggressive and attack all of my opponents from turn 1, so by the time I've made 50 turns I tend to have from 25 to 30 provinces. At this point building cities up is rather low priority, because I am already on my way to win the campaign and by the time I take over required 50 provinces there will hardly be a single fully built city. So what I need is more money in the early stage, as it's most important for me. Extra 2000-3000 denary saved up can mean a lot.

    Numidia has Carthaginian culture so it wont count towards the pyramid of giza. Anything that egypt builds counts towards egyptian culture. Also Antioch is the Seleucid capital bud.

    I've always wondered how the +4 Loyalty Bonus the Status of Zeus translates to Public Order. Or is Loyalty something different entirely?

    • @BetaDude40
      @BetaDude40 4 роки тому +11

      As far as I can tell, it adds a flat public order bonus (called "Glory") in all your settlements. I think it's +20%?

    • @fatnootz3466
      @fatnootz3466 3 роки тому +4

      so it adds a bonus to public order (glory 20%) its a big increase but thats not it. It decreases the damage of riots and makes it way less likey for a full on revolt. aka the riots kill less people and in return make it harder to have them revolt

    Not gonna lie i like the pyramids in Memphis wonder. If you’re going for a 100% game but starting out in Britania, Gaul, Germania, Carthage, Spain, or Roman. That distance from capital penalty really starts to add up. But man if you’re armenia, parthia, or pontus, selucids for instance…it’s just okay and a nice convenience.

    I take the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus just on the second turn while playing as Seleucid Empire or a Greek Cities. Hire all the mercenaries in the region and here we have got a new wonder of the world. I am not talking about a heroic victory against a pretty strong warband of the rebels for this battle))

      I know this is an old comment now but this isn't possible. The engine has a hard cap of 30 factions on the map I think, that's why they just had to make a massive rebels faction.

      I know it's an old comment, vut you can modify the descr file that says what you can play as. You cam set the Senate and the rebels as playable factions there, but it apparently leads to crashes. Not sure whether these are so severe it becomes unplayable though.

    The Hanging Gardens of Babylon and the Colossus of Rhodes are the best. They both provide more income for you which provides everything you need. With more trade in farm and port income, you don't have to tax as much and you can have better public order than a 4% world wonder gives.

    Can you do one about how to keep Rome Total War how to keep citizens happy?

    • @AaronPaden
      @AaronPaden 7 років тому +8

      Easiest thing to do in vanilla when you get those huge cities with massive squalor in the late game is to just raze the military buildings, abandon the city, let it revolt, then retake it and exterminate the population. It'll give you a few turns of peace anyway. I also avoid building farms. Ports give tons of cash anyway.

      I agree with Aaron Paden. I actually made a video on the topic today and am in the process of uploading it now. It goes a little more into detail about how to keep cities happy without having to let them revolt, and it discusses the many other factors that contribute to public order other than squalor.
      If you are concerned specifically about squalor, then yes, allowing your cities to revolt and exterminating the population when you retake them is a sound strategy (just make sure to destroy the military buildings first so that you only have to face an army of peasants). I actually made a video on this topic, and other ways to control squalor, here: ua-cam.com/video/QwMDZJyuJN4/v-deo.html
      I hope you this helps and you enjoy playing the game as much as I do!

      By altering the export_descr_buildings file and giving more bonuses to law and happiness.
      Criticize me for cheating all you want, but i'm not playing total war to constantly having to worry about public order. Besides, the AI gets the bonuses as well so in that sense it isn't even cheating.
      I have
      +1 and +2 for happiness on walls. Protection makes people happy
      +1 to +4 for happiness on health buildings. Healthy people are happy people
      Buffed faction specific buildings (colosseum, odeon, tavern, execution square) to make it 2, 4, 6 for happiness/law instead of 2, 3, 4. Upgrading those lines past the base building was weak anyway if it only gives +1
      +1 to +3 to law on academy line
      +1 to +5 to law on government buildings you need to upgrade your cities
      It's really easy modding, just by looking at the file it should be self-explanatory, just copy paste bonuses under building capabilities.
      Even with all that I still need to pay attention to public order, but at least it's much more manageable.
      Edit: I also gave paved roads to the barbarians and Easterners and highways to the Greek factions. Only having access to dirt roads sucks heavily for any faction IMO. And I gave the greek cities and Thrace macedonian cavalry because they really lacked in the cavalry department. Also Armenian heavy spearman to Parthia because I didn't like that they didn't have any decent infantry and basic archers for Carthage (only slingers sucks). That's really just personal preference though and if you do give units to factions it's best to keep it within the same culture or else the unit card is fucked up.
      Go nuts, just make sure you save the original file if something does go wrong
