According to this logic, jedi are actually more effective in large groups, as having other jedi around strengthens the ambient force energy in the area. That being said, the jedi would've been much better off had they deployed themselves as elite squadrons instead of generals during the clone wars.

There are two reasons that didn't happen. One, the Republic lacked much in terms of experienced combat personnel in general, leading them to pulling in the Jedi into such roles. Two, the CIS had few who could match Jedi, thus reducing the need for the Jedi to gang up.

If order 66 was activated after the first battle of Geonosis, it wouldn’t have been successful as the Jedi had not yet fully trusted the clones and would have been ready to eliminate the clones if need be. The reason why order 66 worked was because by the time the order was issued, the Jedi had come to fully trust the clones with their lives, so when the men they trusted with their lives all of a sudden started shooting at them, they were caught off guard and didn’t have enough time to process what was going on. Also there was the fact that the Jedi were weakened by warfare and spread thin across the galaxy during the final hours of the Clone Wars and the fact that The clones received the order all at once and in only a few short minutes, 99% of the Jedi Order was dead.

Well it was also a Surprise Attack, which was THE BEST way to murder Jedi. It was near instant, and frequently the Jedi were ALREADY distracted by the enemy in front of them. Few Jedi would be in a position to BOTH See/Sense the attack Coming, AND have the time to react.
Even if the Jedi weren't distracted by Combat, they could have had their Lightsaber too far away. Like Shower/Bath, Sleeping, etc.
An of course the Jedi would have had a bunch of PTSD and weary of combat. Weary of being on the Front Lines. Morale was getting lower all the time. With a War that had ZERO end in sight, thanks to The Emperor controlling BOTH sides.
An with their enemy being Droids, it wasn't like losing their best members was that harmful. Doubly so when at least 1 Droid could escape or transmit Data for Future Upgrades.
Meanwhile when you lost a Jedi you could not quickly or easily replace one of that level of Skill, like you could a Droid. After all, it's not like every Padawan could replace a Jedi Knight or Master of the same power so quickly. You could only progress Jedi Learners & Padawans so fast, as a problem of Organics.

Basically the Sith stacked the deck before the Jedi even knew they were in the game, and all they could do was react. And the sith had so many contingencies and back-up plans in place no amount of reacting would stop them. And it's not as if the Sith didn't have set-backs. The war kicking off before everything was completely ready, multiple unanticipated losses, more than a few times the senate nearly put the brakes on things, but in the end they still managed to bring things to fruition, with the only major failing being Vader's injuries from his duel with Obi-Wan.

Well, Anakin also a) had a way stronger connection to the force than all the others (so even as a pure lightsider he wouldn't have easily been deafened!), not to mention that b) he did use the darkside rather frequently (the others might not have seen it, but frankly: Anakin enjoyed fighting and taking risks etc.) so that also strengthened his connection, so Anakin was able to perform up to standard despite being in the thick of it...hell, most Jedi who survived until order 66 were the stronger and more well trained and skilled! Most pure diplomats had died by that point (hell, on Geonosis the strike team led by Windu also lost all of its weaker members, those who more or less only carried a lightsaber as a badge of membership of the jedi order! The one proficient in its use survived Geonosis! Hell, that Jango Fett could simply gun down a jedi shows that some of them aren't cut out to be fighters at all!)

Plus there was never enough proof until it was too late. The Emperor wasn't a nobody or even a normal politician. He was basically a President or Prime Minister.

One point of disagreement at around 3:30 when you mentioned that the Jedi had been preparing to fight the Sith the way they had in antiquity. They weren't preparing at all and were fully convinced the Sith were extinct and final victory had been achieved. That's what created so much tension between Dooku and Yoda because Dooku did want to be prepared, leading to his leaving the order and eventual fall. And I may be mistaken but I think that same determination to stick their heads in the sand was why Sifo Dyas hid some of his visions from Yoda and was so easy to convince to help secretly create the clones for the GAR.

Thank you for this one. It's cleared up something about the storyline that's bothered me for a long time.
WHY did Palpatine construct such a Rube Goldbergian plan? Why not something much more straight forward - using the droid army to assault the Jedi directly. It's hard to decide which part of Palpy's plan was more important - destruction of the Jedi or absolute power. Probably destruction of the Jedi. That seems to have been his emotional core.
Start the Clone Wars, push the Jedi forward as generals - a role which they never wanted and for which they were manifestly unsuited - as Qui-Jon Jinn said. And, of course he was correct. The Jedi were not soldiers. That's a central truth that the Jedi clearly understood but they seem to have surrendered to fate. As if they couldn't escape their own destruction so, Zen-like, they simply submitted to it. Perhaps Yoda felt this was the Will of the Force? Perhaps. It might explain his own peculiar passivity.
It makes the byzantine plot more coherent.

It was BOTH. The War was just the best way to kill the Jedi since he could do it the best.
The only way to get Ultimate Political Power is through War as we saw.
But ONLY The Jedi were strong enough to REMOVE him from Power.
Doubly so after he showed he was NOT a benevolent dictator, but an evil one.

Wouldn't it have been easier for Palpatine to just keep the clone wars going, until most of the Jedi were already dead. Jedi loses were greater then Jedi recruitment so it would just be a matter of time. Perhaps arrange a few accidents for more troublesome Jedi like Joda and Windu (good luck protecting yourself with the force when a hacked droid botches a hyperspace jump into a star or blows the reactor of your vessel).

The problem was that the Separatists had lost their two main front-lime leaders. Losing the Count and the General removed a huge driving force that the Separatists could rally behind, especially as many of their decorated leaders were dead. Without a replacement leader, the Separatists were doomed to petty infighting and incompetent leaders. More importantly, Palpatine had lost nearly all of his Jedi Killers at that point.
While a few more might have died in the fighting, the war was as good as over at that point. The war might have been able to stretch for another year or two with sheer combat strength, but the Separatist Council and the true leaders knew there was no winning. Palpatine knew this all too well.

Short answer: Maybe. Long answer: No. The Jedi, when order 66 was enacted had no army to back them up. Planets with droids present were enemies. Planets with clones present were enemies. Even planets with relatively neutral powers like planets controlled by the Hutts were enemies. Armies, sympathetic to the Jedi such as the Wookies and the Naboo Defense Force were localized and better suited to planetary defense/policing said worlds. And in older lore, Kashyyyk and Naboo very quickly came under Imperial clone assault to destroy some remnant Jedi.
The reason for the short answer being maybe is because theoretically, the Jedi could retreat from galactic affairs, as they tried to during the Mandalorian wars, if they were co-ordinated as this scenario suggests. But ultimately, given the long answer is no and the reasons detailed above, the Jedi would eventually be overwhelmed and massacred by a nearly endless imperial military if any attempt to brazenly resist the rise of the Empire was attempted.
The war was lost, the moment the Jedi decided to use the clone army. If they didn't accept the clone army, then the nearly endless droid armies would overrun the Republic and the Jedi would be wiped out either way. It was a no-win scenario. The only chance they had to avert the demise of the Jedi in my view was for Dooku to realize his stupidity and reveal that Palpatine was a Sith Lord before he, himself was used to commission the clone army. Dooku held Palpatine's plan together after the unintentional 'loss' of Maul jeopardized it. Although, what Palpatine's plan was, if Maul wasn't defeated on Naboo is not clear because Maul didn't have Dooku's charisma.

    • @papapalps2415

@@Dalek7823 This....basically neigh-on perfectly summarizes the situation of the Clone Wars for the Jedi. They were in, to burrow a term from another franchise, a Kobayashi Maru. There was no winning, just different degrees of defeat. I would actually go even further and say the Jedi virtually lost the moment Palpatine became Supreme Chancellor. Everything after that was just finalizing the details.
The only real contention I have is that Maul almost certainly was intended to fulfill Dooku's role. He doesn't display overly much personality at all, nevermind charisma, in TPM, and still doesn't show much of the latter during most of the material set before the Clone Wars, but TCW has shown quite convincingly that he can be charismatic and cunning when he needs to. Desoure popular belief for many, many years, Maul wasn't just a blind brutish assassin, meant to be fired like a missile and forgotten just as fast.

    • @Dalek7823
      @Dalek7823 2 роки тому +1

@@papapalps2415 You're right, Maul did have charisma but I don't think it was the type of charisma needed to hold a vast number of star systems together. Dooku was a respected speaker. The type you'd invite to speak at dinner parties. Maul didn't really possess that quality, he could certainly be charming though as evidenced during TCW, yes.
So thinking on it further, I'd suggest that Palpatine's plan if Maul wasn't defeated on Naboo would be to assassinate the council members one by one using Maul to destabilize the Jedi. Sending Maul to Tatooine then Naboo was Palpatine beta testing this plan and if Maul was able to defeat Qui-gon, one of the strongest swordsmen of the order then he could potentially take down a good number of the order's Jedi council 1 by 1.
