    Video Script
    Hello this is Nick with Albert Air and today we are looking at the VERY POPULAR Carrier Performance Series heat pump condenser 38MURAQ
    In this video I’m going to switch it up bit from what I usually do. I have done a lot of videos on the this Carrier heat pump condenser and if you have seen any of those you already know the units stats, features, and other characteristics. So, instead of doing another video like that I am going to go over some of the questions people ask me because I think that will help you decide if this unit is right for you.
    As always please LIKE this video and SUBSCRIBE to my channel. If you have any questions about this system please leave a comment in the section below and I will be sure to answer it for you. And if you are located in the ORANGE COUNTY, CA area and would like me to give you a free estimate on a CARRIER systems please fell free to reach out to me at 714-526-6368 or visit us at albertair.com
    Questions:
    1 - Who makes this unit?
    Answer: This heat pump condenser is made by Midea in China. It is branded and sold by Carrier. Midea is a very large ductless split manufacturer and is a very trusted brand. The technology they have put into the ductless split condenser over the past 20 plus years is what they have done with this unit. It looks exactly like a Midea ductless split condenser it just has the controls so it can be paired with a fan coil or furnace.
    2 - I thought this was a heat pump, why are you using it with a gas furnace and coil? It is even listed as a heat pump on the Carrier’s website.
    Answer: This is a crossover condenser. Meaning it can be used in a variety of configurations.
    First it can be paired with the Carrier 40MUAA fan coil and be a heat pump condenser. Meaning it is an all electric system for heating and cooling.
    Second it can be paired with a Carrier gas furnace and evaporator coil and be an air conditioning condenser. Meaning the condenser and evaporator coil does the cooling portion and the gas furnace will do the heating.
    Third can be paired with a Carrier gas furnace, evaporator coil and compatible duel fuel thermostat and be a duel fuel system. Meaning you can program the thermostat to switch from electric heating to gas heating based on the parameters you set. So you get the best of both worlds. This unit would run as a heat pump or an AC condenser depending on the settings.
    NOTE: The wiring and thermostat you use will differ with each of those configurations. How you wire it and program the thermostat will make the system work differently.
    3 - Can I use the any thermostat I want like an Ecobee or Honeywell WiFi thermostat and still get the variable speed capability?
    Answer: You can pair any thermostat with this system but you will only get the true communicating variable speed system when you use the Carrier communicating thermostat model #KSACN100
    4 - What’s the point of buying a variable speed heat pump system and not getting the full variable speed capabilities?
    Answer: This system will still operate with some variable speed functionality with a non-communicating thermostat like the ECOBEE Premium or Honeywell T6 Pro Wifi. It will fluctuate the fan indoors and compressor and fan outdoors using temperature and pressure sensors. So for many customer the Wifi is more important than the true variable speed functionality.
    And here’s why -
    It offers a very compact design that fits in a side yard. The 1.5 to 3 ton sizes are 37Lx16Wx32H and the 4 and 5 ton sizes are the same L and W but 52H
    It requires only 4 inches behind the unit, 20 inches in front of the fan.
    It is very quiet. 54 to 61 decibels depending on what size system you need
    It comes in 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4 and 5 ton sizes. So no matter what size of house you have one of those sizes will work for you.
    It gets good efficiency ratings from 14.7+SEER2 to 17.3+SEER2
    It can paired with a fan coil or gas furnace. Giving it a range of functionality that no other unit offers
    It qualifies for the Carrier Cool Cash instant rebate anywhere from $50 to $350
    It also qualifies for the Clean Tech CA rebate of $1,000 in the heat pump version when you replace a gas furnace with it.
    And it’s price point is comparable to a standard 14.3+SEER2 system.
    All that makes it a constant option on every estimate I give my customers.
    So, I hope this helps you in making a good decision on whether or not this Condenser is right for you. If you have any questions or need more information about this unit please leave a comment in the section below. Please LIKE this video and SUBSRIBE to my channel for more videos like these. Thank you for posting this video and explaining the proprietary thermostat. It wasn't explained to me that my nest wouldn't work as a variable speed and only a two-speed. I discovered this on my own and when I asked the HVAC that installed it they had no idea what I was talking about. When I asked them about a proprietary thermostat, they also had no idea what I was talking about. Asking carrier, they told me the nest is compatible. If I was to get the proprietary thermostat, can you make schedules and programming on it? I understand it's not Wi-Fi enabled.

    If 38MURA is not a communicating system, and outdoor and indoor units are both variable speeds - how do they synchronize? Do they work independently? I thought if an outdoor condenser slows down - the air handler should also slow down. Can you explain please?

      @albertairinc.1140  22 дні тому

      Thank you for watching my video. They are hooked up by low voltage wiring and the thermostat is telling the system what to do in that case. Thus they are not a communicating system. The only way the system will synchronize is with communicating wire and the Carrier thermostat. If you use an Ecobee, Nest, Honeywell thermostat etc... the best you can do is two stage.

    All Carrier ductless products are made in China by Midea. As a Carrier dealer, we sold many and they were our low end brand. Pretty reliable.
    Our high end brand for ductless was Daikin. Great stuff!

    Hi! I have the same unit, it was installed this spring. Every time the heat pump runs, the electric panel and meter box buzz and the lights flicker. We’ve installed a new electric panel and rewired everything between the electric panel and the heat pump, but the issue still continues. Any thoughts? Thanks!

      Did you replace the main electrical panel or just the disconnect next to the condenser and the wire going to the main panel? Also what size is the wire from the condenser to the main panel? What size is the condenser?

    I have two carrier units ( infinity series) that are crap. The parts are ridiculously expensive and unreliable. I did not expect you to say anything negative as you probably sell carrier exclusively.

    • @albertairinc.1140
      @albertairinc.1140  5 місяців тому +1

      I'm sorry to hear that you have had issues with your Infinity units. We install a lot of those as well. We are a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer. Carrier products account for over 80% of our installations. I don't like talking negatively about any brand let alone Carrier because it usually comes down to proper installation and not the equipment. Obviously there are outliers and a small percentage of any brand of equipment will have problems in the field. At that point is up to the installing dealer to make it right for the customer. We stand behind the products we install and make sure the customer gets the best possible system and installation for their budget.

      I agree with the installation. I got a second and third opinion on the installation of my carrier units and they all agreed installation was by the book. It’s the product. Most brands are basically the same, it just depends on what incentives the manufacturer is willing to offer. It’s always about the money. If carrier is so great, the warranty should include both labor and parts for at least 15 years at no cost to the customer. I didn’t think so !!

      25vna036a300 and 25vna024a300. I had to replace the 2 ton unit recently. Had to change the condenser ecm fan motors every two to three years on both units. ECM motor now costs 1k not including labor. Muffler on the liquid/ high side rusted out and leaked 13lbs of Freon @ $100 per pound. Both air handlers were replaced about four years ago due to coils leaking and rusting out. Had txv valve and blower motor replaced on one of the air handlers. I had one tech come and replace one of the condenser fan motors and he called tech support which showed the fan motor was only replaced one time. I’m not sure what the a/c company was doing but apparently they may have eaten the cost on the part and collecting the inflated labor cost from me in order to keep in good graces with carrier. I make sure the filters are replaced/clean, coils and condenser units are clean. Also make sure the drain lines are clean and condensation is flowing. We have mild winters for the most part but when it does drop below freezing, the heat pump is loud and seems to be under a lot of strain. I appreciate you asking what are the issues but when the units are replaced, you can bet it won’t be carrier/ Bryant. I recently installed a voltage regulator and surge protector for each unit along with a home surge protector. Thanks for your concerns. I know you are just trying to help 😊

      @@albertairinc.1140 I'm looking at Carrier heat pump units. It seems like most of them fail for the tax credit, I think due to not making the heating (HSPF) threshold. But if it exceeds for the AC (SEER2), can you claim anything for that?

    • @albertairinc.1140
      @albertairinc.1140  Місяць тому

      @@jwhite4 All Heat Pump rebates are based on the SEER2/EER2?HSPF2 ratings. So it will just depend on what rebate you are trying to get. For example all heat pump installations with an AHRI Certificate will qualify for Clean Tech CA and Comfortably CA rebate but you need a higher rating to get the Tax Credit.
