This unit is 5 inches off the house wall with several feet to the left and right, as well as 44 inches in front of the fans. This we exceed the recommend manufacturer clearances required. The manufacturer clearance specifications can be found in the installation manual on Page 8, figure 8. Here they are for your reference - 4 inches from the wall, 24 inches left, 24 inches right and 24 inches in front.

Great video. I am in the same boat. Although I had a duel fuel system installed. 38MURAQ48AA3 paired with the 57TP1. The installer originally thought they would need to run the 2 wire but once they started the install they told me they wouldn't need to and they could use the existing wiring from the old system. They also installed an ecobee. How would this effect my system operationally not having the 2 wire? Does this mean I am not getting variable speed without the carrier thermostat? Is it worthwhile to have it installed now? Thanks for the awesome info. Btw, I am in San Diego. Do you service this area?

    • @albertairinc.1140

Yes, when paired with the Ecobee thermostat the system is not a true variable speed system. The outside condenser will go up and down in speeds but the inside blower motor will not. To have the true variable speed capabilities you would need to pair your system with the Carrier communicating thermostat. Unfortunately the Carrier thermostat is not very nice looking, does not have wifi or some of the other features of the Ecobee. So other than being able to have the variable speed communicating capabilities with the system it is not very good. For those reasons I have not installed that thermostat with this system. My customers are buying the 38MURA unit for the lower sound rating and compact design.

Ok, so I have a deck that cantalevers off the house, and the traditional unit is out in the heat of the day and the fan exhaust is vertical. The fins, although fenced are exposed to the hazards of hail and debris (lawnmowing). So, the unit can be set under a deck and exhausted horizontally, yes? And the fins (don't see them in your video, are on the backside, facing the structure, yes? Minimum setback from vertical and horizontal surfaces?

I'm confused on the heat pump vs a/c distinction when it comes to the federal tax credit and the SEER2 >= 16 requirement.
Is this unit not labeled/marketed as a heat pump meaning it would always fall under the heat pump criteria for the rebate?
When paired with a gas furnace, is the reverse heat pump ability disabled or something, invalidating the tax credit?
What if it it was paired with a 40MUAA Fan Coil, is it a "heat pump" then?
For contrast, I'm aware that Carrier has specific, dedicated Central A/C units, like the 24SPA6 Performance 16 that could never function as a heat pump.

    • @fijiman88
      @fijiman88 Рік тому +2

This Carrier 38MURAQ can be wired as a heat pump condenser with the Carrier 40MUAA fan coil or Carrier FV4 fan coil and would qualify for the split ducted heat pump Federal Tax credit up to $2,000 if the system meets the 15.2+SEER2/11.7+EER2/7.8 HSPF requirement (note: not all sizes will qualify). An AHRI certificate for the system match up is needed.
The Carrier 38MURAQ can also be wired as an AC only condenser and matched with a Carrier gas furnace and evaporator coil. This would qualify for the split AC Federal Tax credit up to $600 if the system meets the 16+SEER2/12+EER2 requirement. (note: not all sizes will qualify). An AHRI certificate for the system match up is needed.
That is correct. The Carrier central AC condensers can only be AC condensers. By contrast, any Carrier heat pump condenser can be a heat pump when matched with a fan coil or can be wired for AC only and be an AC condenser.
I hope this answers you questions. It can be very confusing. And to make it more confusing there are different efficiency criteria for the tax credits based on your location in the country. All of the efficiencies listed above are for the south region tax credit criteria. They will differ if you are located in the north.

Carrier does not make this unit in 3.5 ton. It comes in 3 ton, 4 ton and 5 ton. The 4 ton and 5 ton are the same size as the condenser in the video. Right now there is a Carrier Rebate and other rebates depending on configuration and size you install. These condensers are based on the Carrier ductless split condensers that have been out for many years. So they are very reliable and we have had no issues with them so far. They are similar to the AC Pro slimline condenser in the way they are designed and work. Thank you for your comments.

Nice unit! I got the 2-ton version installed and it is quiet and efficient. Mine is paired with the 40MUAA fan coil. The hvac company that hooked it up used "wiring scenario 3" so there are 24v wiring from the ecobee thermostat to both indoor and outdoor units. After looking at the manual, it seems like they should have used "wiring scenario 1" which uses a 2-wire communicating connection between indoor and outdoor units, and 24v wiring between the ecobee and indoor unit. We usually use the Ecobee thermostat with this system as well with the same wiring hook up you have. If you do the 2 wire scenario you would have to use the Carrier thermostat for that to work. My neighbor installed a 5 ton just like it and it's 76 dB at high speed and the noise just passes right thru a block wall, vinyl fence and my house wall so that I hear all the low frequency noise 63 hz and 125 hz and my thought is that's compressor noise and maybe something wrong with this unit or the install! I'm sorry to heat that. The units I have installed have been true to the manufacturers sound rating specs. Compressors can make more or less noise based on many factors. Here are a few factors that we check when installing these units. 1 - Refrigerant lines are correct size and install a by-flow 163s filter dryer. 2 - The condenser is set to the manufacturer specs for clearances from walls and other obstructions. 3 - The return and supply air is correct for the size of the system being installed. 4 - The unit comes critically charged for 25 feet of refrigerant lines. For every 1 foot after that the unit needs .6 ounces of refrigerant to be weighed in. 5 - The unit is wired correctly for the type of FAU and thermostat being used. I hope this helps.

Ecobee so they only get low and high speeds and the high speed runs for 45 sec or more after every cycle. The Dealer here says it's not his problem and building walls doesn't help for the 63 and 125 hz peaks driving these levels.
OH I wanted to add, it's 5 tons for a 1987 2475 sq ft house with new vinyl windows and good insulation. Oversized and that's typical of dealers here ignoring Manual J calc and using the "rule of thumb"

Hi Nick! We just got a Carrier 4 ton 38MURA installed to replace a 4 ton Bryant Preferred slim line that had amp draw issues. The MURA runs much, much quieter especially on start up and when it shuts off! However at the end of every single cooling cycle it stops then it immediately runs again for 1 minute with the fan running in the opposite direction and the fan runs at a much higher speed (most likely max speed) than when it is cooling creating a lot more noise which is very annoying at night. My installer called someone at Carrier and they said this is a locked in setting to clear out any debris from the back of the unit after every cycle and cant be adjusted. Do you have any insight on this? Is there any way to reduce the fan speed on that 1 minute cycle that runs after every cycle or even disable it completely? This is the only annoying thing about this model, it sounds like a jet engine taking off immediately after every cycle. Thank you!! And great videos!
