  • I say possibly because what I cover in this video may or may not fix your dead VCR...but it worked for me! Electronics and circuit board experience required.

    for your information if you use the Elektrolytic Caps to change use the 105°C and Types from Nichicon or Panasonic they have a very long lifetime. SUPER i like that what you'r doing!

    Thanks for this databits. i have this model and got it out today for the first time in over 10 years. It was working just fine 10+ years ago. Now I have a full time blinking "VHS" in the display and 0 audio or video ouput from any of the multilple outputs. Tapes seem to play and eject just fine. Any thoughts or direction would be appreciated!

    Don't ever recall seeing DVHS in England JVC or Ferguson badged, many later ones claimed 'digital tracking (using sensors) but of cause the VHS cassette itself was tricky (poor internal guiding) even if decks improved , still JVC VHS machines came along way from early 'dead finger' front controls! I often wished the Philips VC2000 had led the market (used its own flip-over cassette but because it was fully digital tracking before VHS had it it came out on the market late and JVC beat Philips with what was later recognised as a poorer system (in early version) still, VHS was decent for its time and I still use a Bush VHS when I can't be bothered to find a R/W DVD . The real beauty of the Philips VC2000 was the splendidly pure sync. it could 'lock' on a very weak video signal whereas VHS tracking faults were the result of a basic weak sync. Replacing electrolitic capacitors is always worth while on an older unit but dry joints can give false clues too, I recall an expensive 4 head (Mitsubishi made) Salora VHS full of the buggers! In UK and Aus/NZ the wall socket power is 230/240v AC so we have to be even more carefull replacing charged-up power suppy electrolitic capacitors!

    I have a very strange issue with that exact same model D-VHS VCR. With mine there is no sign of life at all on the front display and it's completely unresponsive to any button being pressed either on the unit itself or via the remote control. But, and this is where it has me stumped and I can't figure out what's going on, is that the fan at the back does spin and the unit does also accept a tape. I should say that it accepts a tape if the cover of the unit is on. If you have the cover off and there is any direct light shining into the unit, it ejects the tape. So, upon a tape being inserted with the cover on, what it does is it immediately tries to rewind the tape and once it has done that it starts to play the tape. Crystal clear picture, so no issues on that front, but as I say it's completely unresponsive to any button function. To get it to stop and eject the tape I remove the cover and I reckon the sensors or whatever pick up that light and the unit stops playing the tape and ejects it. I have swapped out the whole internal power supply and replaced it with one from a known working unit. But the issue persists, so it's not the power supply. I've also checked all the ribbon cables throughout the unit and reseated all of them. No idea if you will ever read this and this is probably a shot in the dark but if you did read it, what do you reckon I should maybe try or look at next?

    these have a record feature. can you record from TV and have it be HD? Or does it need a special tape? Or do only the prerecorded movies play in HD

    • @databits
      @databits  6 років тому +1

      You could only record from specific satellite set top boxes in HD. It does need to be a special DVHS blank tape.

    but how do regular vhs tapes look on this. i shot VHS in the 80'S and would love to do HDMI out.

    • @databits
      @databits  7 років тому

      Regular VHS tapes look about as good as you can get from a consumer VCR on this deck.

    I plan to digitise VHS, HI8 tapes to DV (Digital Video) quality then convert them to DVD do you know any high quality profession SVHS VCRS i should use, I find Jvc's can sometimes cause tracking issues for certain vhs tapes, i have used a Panasonic, good but want something for professional use.

    • @databits
      @databits  9 років тому

      Shaan Awaz Any D-VHS VCR is a good choice. There were Panasonic, Marantz and of course JVC models. All will play SVHS tapes.

      Allright i should probs consider a DVHS VCR Instead of an SVHS VCR

    • @databits

      Shaan Awaz - I would Shaan, DVHS has a built in "time base corrector" to clean up the analog signal.

    Can this also record in the D-VHS format?

    • @Allen-ps6bx
      @Allen-ps6bx 5 років тому

      Yes it can. You can use D-VHS tapes or S-VHS tapes . With S-VHS tapes after you insert the tape you push a button on the front panel marked D-VHS and it will record in D-VHS mode.

    This is the absolutely best deck to transfer VHS and S-VHS to digital. With the image stabilization and noise reduction, you can transfer VHS and S-VHS looking better than the original. Here is a tip on a transferring system that will blow away any transfer of VHS you have ever seen. Hook the HM-30000U via RGB to a Sony DSR-45 DVCAM RGB input. Take the firewire output of the DSR-45 and hook it to a firewire input on a computer. Then use the freeware program WINDV to do the transfer. You can use the DSR-45 to tape the transfer to a mini DV or DVcam tape but I use the DSR-45 as a digital conversion unit and the files rendered on the computer are uncompressed .AVI files. You can than edit the avi files. I edit the avi files and then author them to a Blu Ray for the best VHS or S-VHS tranfer you have ever seen. You can see my UA-cam channel for many examples from this system....

    help please! my jvc vhs/dvd player won't work! I got it yesterday and tried putting in a tape put found out there was one already inside and I managed to eject it normally. but when I inserted my home video tape it won't eject! also for a while it didn't play so I left it unplugged the whole night then plugged it again the next day and it played but didn't eject. I was able to change the channels, rewind and fast forward, and stop, but the power button and eject button just didn't do anything. it doesn't even make a noise. so I unplugged it again and then replugged it and it kept showing the numbers for the video's time. but now I can't even play it! I can only change the channels which are like: f-1, ch2,ch9,ch42, etc
    am I doing something wrong?

      +databits I have since cleaned my JVC SVHS VCR using Isopropyl and used a lint free cloth (nonabrasive) cleaned the capstan, tape mechanism, drive belt and heads, it works perfectly well after i had cleaned it, no more error code displayed on the LCD, so now i know the error code was caused by it needing a clean...☺😊

    And there's STILL a few movies on D-VHS that aren't on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, including True Lies (which is a crappy movie anyway, but this is the only way to see it in HD. The DVD isn't even in 16x9!)

    These decks are not solid! They are very cheaply made considering what their original price was- mine squeaks when the tape starts up, but at least it works.
