    Great =) It's a good idea to recreate common faults like this, I am sure people will find these videos very useful in years to come!

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  9 років тому +2

      Yes I know. This is how I was trained 30 years ago when I worked for the Sony corporation. The instructor would plant faults in the circuit, and the students had to figure out what was the problem. Fix the problem - a pass on the course. Not find it and it is back to the classroom for you. It is a good way to see what faults look like, and how to spot easy fixes.
      I will be doing many more of these with different machines over the coming weeks.

      Absolutely! All I was trying to say (badly) is the approach of creating faults is great - to show people what they might encounter, and the sequence of steps to take in order to try and diagnose the fault! I love your videos! Awesome stuff, keep up the great work ;)

    12voltvids I'm having a little problem with my Panasonic NV-SD435, sometimes when i put a tape to play, whether i got a blue screen or the TV says "No signal", it solves when i clean the head drum. What could it be? i recently made an overhaul on it, because the tape transport system wasn't working properly.

    My Sony SLV N51 VCR has the same exact problem but after cleaning the control track there is no improvement. Could the heads be damaged? I get a picture in Pause and Rev and FF but a blue screen on Play.

    I'm having a similar issue with various cassettes from 1979 and 1980. They are all from Magnetic Video. The audio tracks play perfectly but the video only plays when in FF or Rew. These cassetes are in immaculate condition for their age. The ribbons are prefect. Ive tried other cassettes and they all work with the exception of these few older ones. What could be the issue?

  • @chrismifsud7154
    @chrismifsud7154 11 місяців тому

    I have a JVC and have same issue. No picture (sound works) but if I search forward or reverse it gets a picture. If I play around with the flat cable of the track head it switches to LP and shows an image but plays slow. I tried cleaning the tracking head. If I disconnect the tracking head same, plays (with picture) in LP mode, albeit in severe need of tracking. When playing in SP (sound yes but no picture) the Super VHS logo lights up on the VFD. What could be the issue ?

    Hi good video, but if possible when creating a new video on how to fix such issues please rename the title based on the problem that would face the user in this case VCR can only play for a moment or something like that so ordinary folks can find your videos quicker, as most folk may not even know what a control track is or how it affects the VCR.

    i recently attempted to start archiving 9mm video from a camcorder. (sony ccd-trv17) playback worked fine, then after 10 mins, video was blue and audio was ok. perhaps this is what I need to do

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  3 роки тому

      8mm not 9, and no that isn't the problem. It will be capacitors in video circuit. On 8mm the sound is recorded along with the video using the same heads and there is no control track on 8 mm tracking is done by signals recorded in with the video. If you have sound and no picture there's a problem in the video playback circuit. if it was something simple like a bad head or dirty heads you would have no sound or picture because the sound and picture are both recorded by the same heads. If it was a problem with the head preamp for example it would also affect the sound.

      @@12voltvids a 1 mm typo, oops. If I forward search or reverse search the video can be seen, only during playback does it go blue. • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  3 роки тому

      @@dirtyoledog519 yeah it's going to be capacitors in the playback video circuit, likely the Video sync pulses are low thus triggering the blue screen. When in pause search forward or search reverse external sync is inserted and the mute is turned off

      @@stonathanjokes2142 Are you suggesting that my videos are staged?
      Well some are, if I find something and miss the shot because for example the camera shut down, which does happen, especially with Sandisk SD cards (shots fired at Sandisk for their shitty memory) then sometimes I have to re-shoot, the scene, and since the problem is already fixed, I have to go through the motions. Say I have already aligned the machine, I won't actually turn the guide, and will use camera angle to ensure that the guide can not be seen turning. On other cases, I will be shooting say the scope screen when I do the actual alignment, showing what it happening, and when I shoot the shot of the guide post, it is a retake, or it is done before I shoot the scope.

    All I could see was your back when cleaning 5:25 😥I cleaned what I think you were cleaning it did not work it plays great for a minute then goes blue screen for 10 seconds. Great 1 min blue 10 sec . On and on. when it's blue if your rewind you can see the visual. Or fast forward the visual does not ever leave, only in play for 10 sec.

    I have very similar symptoms on a Sylvania-branded VHS made in Japan in Jan 1992 (believe it is same as Panasonic). But cleaning the control head did not solve it. I get a picture on Pause or Fast Forward, just like this. Difference is there is no color in it. Picture is grainy and has several wide gray horizontal bands on it.
    Any ideas on what to try next? Don't see any obvious bad caps. Have owned this machine from beginning. Problem started after I cleaned all the heads and rollers to solve graininess problem. Worked well for about 10 to 20 hours after that.
