      The best thing to do is get a friend who has a boat. Honor invitations to go boating by bringung wonderful things to eat and drink (responsibly, of course). Whatever you spend on catering is a bargain!

    So... been following Acorn to Arabella for several weeks, and just found SV Seeker about 10 days ago. And been following you, Stu, for a couple of months (in all cases, binge-watched the episodes prior to my discovery of these projects to catch up on everything). Gotta say I've been hugely happy to see you visit the guys at Arabella and Doug at SV Seeker while you're visiting the States!
    This is incredible to me! All the guys I admire doing the work I enjoy seeing all meeting up and supporting each other-- what a gratifying thing all this is. I truly love it.
    I follow a couple of other projects as well: a young man restoring a 109 year old sailing yacht, Tally Ho! And a young couple building a George Buehler-designed (not positive on the spelling of that name), sail boat from scratch-- “Redivival” (Salt and Tar is their channel). Very impressed with both.
    (A word about George Buehler designs: in the general snobbery of boating, his name is scoffed at due to his 'hard chines' and usage of materials considered sub-standard for marine usage. I read his book years ago (or one of them, anyway-- unsure if he wrote more than one), and found his methodology and philosophy on all that entirely plausible and sound. His designs have all been built dozens or hundreds of times over throughout the world, and apparently no-one has perished due to poor design. A builder using his designs can certainly make it more robust as they build. Enough on that...)
    The Salt and Tar duo are four years into their build, and Garrett has certainly shown some major woodworking skills-- he just completed the bowsprit, and it's truly a work of art! They're in Central California, along the coast. Perhaps you can pop up there from Pasadena for a moment or two while you're in California? Just asking...
    Anyway, I love all that you do: from the Green Machine to engine rebuilds to your major trawler refurbish... love it all. And I look forward to your videos every week. Carry on!

    • @shaddec55
      @shaddec55 4 роки тому

      A side note: also been following a guy building a 41' George Buehler- designed boat, and he's making some stunning progress. He's no boatwright or shipwright, but he is a competent carpenter. I don't begin to agree with all his methodology, but he does command his talents with skill and determination. Worth a look...

Keep up the video's buddy cant wait to see what happens when you get home. Hope you got a friend keeping a eye on your boat to check for leaks or make sure the bilge pumps are still working.

    Hi Stu.
    That word appeared again. I found this:
    "American readers are used to aluminum, while British audiences prefer aluminium. While aluminum was the original spelling of the element, many scientific communities have standardized around aluminium, so if you are writing for a scientific journal, that might be your best choice."
    Thanks for another great vlog.

    Laughed when you said "see how I'm not trying to interrupt so much". Best interview/overview yet, barely a cringe moment mate haha. Great to get the macro details on SV Seeker, so many videos of the smaller stuff on the channel makes it hard to see the overall picture.

      R P bit of a different rhythm in conversations in different countries. As a Midwesterner I do find the Australian rhythm sometimes exhausting - it’s so fast back and forth.

      Apparently there's this new thing called binge watching. The back episodes of these 2 channels would give you a couple of days of that. Add Brupeg and Life on the hulls and there's a week's worth.

      @@earthwizz There would also be S/V Mistress and the liveaboard-on-water outfitting on a shoestring Rhys of S/V Zora did/does in the metal branch, and, to look into "other" materials, too, You could add Leo Sampson's Tally Ho, Steve'n Alix with Arabella (from -scratch- Acorn... ), Tapatya and the occasional earlier Lou Sauzette project vid called "tips of a shipwright". You probably don't have to leave the telly-armchair for the rest of the year this way (should there be a snooze-function ... 😄)

    In the main cargo hull with "decorative" bracing you will see that those as well, are works of art. In he shape of a beautiful woman. Quite fitting if you ask me. Embracing the safety and vitals of all that is important for the journey to come. Love this boat and bless all on board. Can't wait to see what explorations and discoveries to be. 28:40
