    Thanks for info paul
    My thoughts with payments are another way to get money out of as if we don't pay enough as it is for insurance tax . We pay all these charges but look at state of our roads .
    But like that's my view

      I think all the new charges are more to do with revenue than improvement.

    Nobody seems to have said it so far, so I will add for your information...
    You can travel to the Isle of Wight by motor vehicle from Lymington as well as Portsmouth and Southampton, however the ferries used are fairly small and booking is essential. - It's a wight link service.
    Very informative video which should help people who are not aware of the Clean air zone policies. Thank you.
    Ps, I visited a friend in Bath recently using my Campervan with no prior knowledge of it having a clean air zone (He forgot to mention because he is exempt) - his road is one away from the charge limit and one wrong turn almost cost me an unnecessary fee! Needless to say he was very apologetic and I am grateful that I was able to turn the van around unlike I could have done in many of the adjacent roads.

      Thanks for the info. Yes as more of them appear we will be either finding we are having to pay (dependent on vehicle) or find alternative routes. Thanks for watching and your comment.

      Thanks. I do try to cover most things and on these types of video we research heavily to reduce risk of any errors as we want to have a “trusted” channel. However, we do find we have to be really clear about things like “check your specific vehicle” etc because if we didn’t there would be one person who would complain that due to our video they were charged or something. Thanks for your support.

    Additional information you may find useful:
    On the “Brum Breathes” website (link below) they say “Your vehicle is only chargeable when in motion. The ANPR cameras record vehicles when they are moving, so you would receive a charge for each individual day the vehicle in question is picked up by the cameras.” This means a vehicle parked for days within a Clean Air Zone is NOT charged for every day it remains parked. It would be charged for the day of entering and the day of departure of a Clean Air Zone.
    They also state that the charge is “per day” but NOT per 24 hours; instead it is from midnight to midnight. Although I would always recommend to make your own enquiries, this sounds logical as a vehicle that remains parked is by definition “not polluting” so even the UK government obviously believes they can’t obtain monies for that.

    This is so frustrating as I have always wanted a motorhome & now I have recently started looking for one after finally convincing my wife lol but trouble is now I can only afford to buy a motorhome that will be older than 2015 so not a euro6 classification & with more clean air zones emerging is it worth buying one older than 2015? I don't plan on driving through any cities thats not what you buy a motorhome for but if they start with boroughs which I have now seen signs put up near my house then I will get stung by the caz charge just by leaving the house to drive away from populated areas the government need to consider motorhomers as they are not the problem. I am all for clean air zones in city centres with dirty buses being the biggest culprit. Another informative video by the way keep up the good work.

    • @LiveforTravel
      @LiveforTravel  2 роки тому +1

      I agree it is very difficult and it is probably only going to expand further; although I believe the Manchester CAZ is on hold. For those who don’t live within one there is of course a way of avoiding them but I can’t imagine what it must be like for people that have a zone applied where they live. Campers make up such a small percentage of the environmental problem but the government are not known for looking at the bigger picture. Thanks for your feedback and support.

    Enjoyed your video, I live near and used to work on the motorways near Birmingham. So we have M5, M6, M42, A38 Aston Expressway, and that lovely Spaghetti Junction. As you know there are houses very close, underneath to these roads, which have been expanded to use 4 lanes, smart motorways. Yet these zones don’t apply to some areas. Personally I believe this is a way of pricing some out of the city centres, and creating areas for elites, rich. For me to go to say NIA or a music venue I go by car, park say at the Mailbox, and walk. But there are no late buses, trains past 10pm, if any that run. So any concert that finishes after 11pm I’m stuffed. This is a money making scam.
    I’ve stood on the side of the motorway, or actually in it dealing with incidents, and I would say the constant noise levels are more of a pain than fumes. Q. Why does the Toll motorway not get used more to avoid the city limits, COST. Even when the motorway has issues, motorist cannot be diverted onto M6 Toll, only on recognised diversion routes. That’ brings it own issues

    • @Andy.Gledhill.Models.
      @Andy.Gledhill.Models. 2 роки тому +1

      I agree mate. The M6 Toll Road is a complete joke. Traffic on it is always light, because most drivers do not want to pay the toll. I am a HGV driver and I am told to not use the M6 Toll Road. The result of the creation of the M6 toll road, is just tons more traffic on the surrounding roads like the A5 through Cannock etc.

      I think you probably noticed I’m more than a little sceptical as to the motivation with Clean Air Zones. The ability to drive for many is becoming more and more of a challenge; cost wise. The lack of semiconductors and hence new metal isn’t helping but generally the price of new cars is climbing quite steeply and is likely part of the reason more vehicles are being advertised on PCPs and lease as the manufacturers are desperate for people to buy but the same people are unable to afford. The future isn’t bright for those who drive or enjoy driving.

      Thanks. You’re not being thick. That’s my job 😁 on rare occasions where a video doesn’t attract sufficient attention, comments etc, I decide to remove them. We try our best to make informative, and hopefully sometimes entertaining, videos and choose subjects that we feel would be useful. However, I am also a bit ‘fussy’ or maybe it’s just OCD with the channel as a whole and as a result the odd one or two are removed. Really appreciate your support.

    I recall when "company cars" were taxed only for "Directors and higher paid employees" earning over £8,500(?) supposedly to stop the "drive the "company" Jag to the station" perk.
    .
    My colleagues were all relieved since we earned less than that (our cars were essential for carrying tools and spares).
    You wait! I said, and they laughed.
    3-4 years later we were all paying the tax..... They simply left the limit as was and let wage inflation do the dirty work.

    • @LiveforTravel
      @LiveforTravel  2 роки тому

      Exactly this. People who think that any savings made will continue are not really using logic. The plug in car grant has been reducing each year and the threshold has also been reduced to £32K (including VAT, On the road costs etc) which with the current availability of vehicles seriously reduces the options. Zero tax for EV’s will be culled at the earliest “they” believe they can get away with it.

    Very informative, as always. Having checked the Gov website any foreign registered vehicle is not accepted. As I live in Portugal my future motorhome will have a Portuguese number plate, so how do I, or any other motorhomers, with foreign number plates vehicles check whether they have to pay or not. Do you have any information? Thanks

    • @LiveforTravel
      @LiveforTravel  2 роки тому

      That is a very good question. One that will affect a few people but one I don’t currently know the answer to (and I’m uncertain the UK government knows currently). You might find this article interesting on the subject. www.ukauthority.com/articles/dft-plans-digital-register-of-non-uk-vehicles-for-clean-air-zones/
      Also, I would be tempted to use the enquiry form at the bottom of the Gov website page here: www.gov.uk/clean-air-zones

      I know that Transport for London has an "Auto-pay" facility on which you can register, removing the need for manual payment. Not sure how that works for non-UK vehicles?
      I suppose that if you register, but the system can't cope because the vehicle isn't in the database, they simply won't charge you, but you could if challenged provide proof that you attempted to comply?

      Googled "TFL ULEZ foreign vehicle"
      "All foreign registered vehicles are subject to the ULEZ in the same way as those registered in the UK. To administer the ULEZ for UK registered vehicles we predominantly use the vehicle data held by the DVLA. This allows us to establish whether a vehicle is compliant with the ULEZ emissions standards.
      As we do not have access to data relating to vehicles registered outside of the UK, we operate a ULEZ registration scheme. This allows motorists to contact us and provide evidence that their vehicle complies with the ULEZ emissions standards. On receipt of this information we register the vehicle as complaint with the standards. This allows the vehicle to be used in the ULEZ without payment of the charge or risk of receiving a PCN.
      In instances when a penalty is issued to a foreign registered vehicle, and the recipient of the penalty confirms their vehicle is compliant with the standards, the penalty will be cancelled."

      I do think both BEV and Hydrogen vehicles will improve (both environmental and cost) and believe Hydrogen may play a key role with larger vehicles. Prices of both are prohibitive to the majority at the moment (unless signing PCP’s etc) so there is much time to pass before the dust even looks like it is going to settle.

      The consideration with hydrogen?
      Grid energy in / "mileage" out.
      It's only 20-25% efficient at best in that regard (even Toyota agreed that, posting a diagram years ago..... Since deleted?)
      .
      The other issue relates to yesterday's topic, clean air.
      .
      Until "the grid" is 💯 "green", any green energy produced should be used as efficiently as possible (?) thus effectively offsetting the maximum possible capacity of "dirty" generation required.
      .
      Using even "excess clean energy" for hydrogen simply throws a high percentage of that resource away.
      .
      For similar one off investment in infrastructure, electrical based storage (NOT "lithium") can capture at least 90% for later use.
      .
      Therefore I suggest that since use of Hydrogen actually contributes to a greater proportion of the dirty generation *remaining* on the grid, it's not "green".
      Not to mention cost.
      The end user will pay for the grid energy at a proportionate rate (even if it was otherwise "excess").
      In an industry (Haulage) where pennies count, I suspect that will become at least "a talking point"?

    • @LiveforTravel
      @LiveforTravel  2 роки тому

      @@rogerstarkey5390 I am aware of how low the energy used vs waste is with hydrogen. What I am unable to say (because I am neither an expert in the field or privy to the multi billion pound investments companies are currently making for both battery and hydrogen applications) is what the future will definitely look like.
      Anyone that suggests using a fuel source that is [currently] so inefficient is not appreciating the effect on our environment. I accept that. However, there is a lot of work going on to build a hydrogen infrastructure for many applications (whether or not such future applications are as clean for the environment as they state).
      I am lucky, insofar as, along with the majority of us, we will simply end up driving (or walking) the path chosen by government and big business alike; thus there is no requirement to impart my view into real world practice.
      This particular page on the government website hints at the investment that will be happening with hydrogen: www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-government-launches-plan-for-a-world-leading-hydrogen-economy
