- Buying a USED Campervan or Motorhome? WATCH THIS FIRST!
In this video we discuss an issue with buying some secondhand Campervans or Motorhomes dependant on when they were first registered in the UK. Some, like our Roller Team T-Line 590 Motorhome, suffer from a bigger tax bill.

You can check the tax value of a vehicle prior to purchase by using the V5C (log book) 'document reference number' on the 'check tax' link below. Enter the vehicle registration number, confirm the information on screen matches the Make and Colour of the vehicle and then scroll down to the link 'view the tax rates for this vehicle.' You will then be asked to enter the V5C document reference number.

It's odd, whilst you may be looking to buy, by the time you do, this video is probably the last thing you remember. I think I've seen you mention this before in passing but only really remembered about buying second hand and what you may end up paying depending on when the van was bought / registered. I'd never even considered the SORN aspect to have any impact at all. Thank You, top advice.
Thanks. We briefly touched on the subject in a ‘tips’ video but felt it deserved a standalone one and more research. The aspect about SORN surprised me and it means that a van that is maybe 6 or even 7 (or more) years old could still be taxed with an additional rate if it has spent months each year on SORN.
Useful, informative video. Thank you :-)
Thanks for watching and for feedback.
Thanks for this info. It is certainly worth knowing for when we change our older van.
Thanks for watching and your support.
Thanks.❤
Brilliant information on a very confusing situation the Govt caused.
It would be nice if the Govt were to reverse that law that lasted for 6 months and make you whole by refunding what you overpaid and then put you on the same tax rates as other similar vehicles, we all know that's not going to happen but it is unfair.
It blows me away how the British Govt set Vehicle tax rates, they are always flipping and flopping, I look through Autotrader, a small car can be taxed more than a large car, I know its emissions based, but some or most of it just doesn't add up to me.
Thanks. Yes they are terrible at vehicle tax (and other things) and there was no way they were going to refund. We didn’t know that they were going to change it back and until researching for the video wouldn’t have known that SORN affects the date the additional rate stops. They want that 5 years… no matter how long it takes.
We had our van uprated to 3650 so they gave us back £1800.
That’s interesting. Will be doing some more research about that.
Hi, please forgive me as I'm a little confused, Is this blog a retrospective look at motorhome road tax?, my MH is the same vehicle as your T Line, mines also a 21 plate. I'm currently paying £325 per year, this was also confirmed with a call to DVLA today. is this what you're paying? Appreciate the video 👍
No need to forgive. All questions welcome. Our van is a 20 plate. Registered 1st of March 2020. As mentioned in the video, the tax change was from 1st of September 2019 to the 11th March 2020 inclusive. Yours as it is a 21 plate would have been registered after 11th March 2020.
@@LiveforTravel ahah! I’ve followed you for ages and have always thought you’re T Line to be a 21 plate. 😬
@@jontremaine1no problem. We wished it was 😂
The Tory’s are really good at robbing the genuine guy who just wants to retire in peace
I don’t think we will ever be able to. The financial system only cares about the financial system.
