My father Ake Gille ( 1919 - 2004 ) was president of the Waloon organization of Sweden. He received a prestigious medal from the king of Belgium . He sponsored and lead my trips to the Walloon areas of Belgium and the 1970’s . I have saved all the newspaper clippings . Thank you for this UA-cam presentation
I’ve always wondered why I don’t “look Swedish and Finnish” and I recently found out from my mum that it’s because we have Walloon ancestry, which is very prominent on me, my mother and grandfather. I don’t know much about my Walloon ancestry (like how much or when my ancestors came to Sweden), but here I am making research so I can know more about my Walloon ancestry!
Shhh... I can't tell you here that's too private lol... no just kidding, it's darker brown hair, dark green eyes, bigger hands in relation to size. It's on my mothers side... A lot of people have thought that I'm a dark haired russian hehe... but I'm a Swede just with this spice added to my mixup :)
@@Almansur8 You're welcome hehe :) They have pale/fair skin and almost black hair, dark eyes (brown or green mostly). They came to Sweden in the 16th/17th century as blacksmiths and craftsmen with great knowledge to help build up the industry and the military. Many left Sweden later on, but a few remained here. From wiki. Five to ten thousand Walloons emigrated to Sweden, mainly working in the steel industry.
Not all Walloons have black hair or dark eyes, there are real Walloons with pale skin and blond hair. Greetings from Belgium from a half Walloon half Fleming.

Got to know recently we have walloon ancestry in the family.
Does anyone know when they stopped speaking Walloon?
I got the walloons to thank for my western european traits, haha.
Does anyone know what the wallonian language sounded like? I guess like french?
It's close to French, with a stronger Germanic influence.

Not quite that though, these have heavy french pronunciations and accents
