Nope, in EUROPE the warranty is 15 years from late 2023, for all Toyota vehicles les than 10 years old. Or 250 000 km which comes first. I received 2 emails for new 15 year warranty extended from 10 to 15 years if you maintenance of official Toyota service centre.

Test driving one soon, looked at the competition but you don't get as much kit as lots comes standard on Toyota's + 10 year warranty is not to be sniffed at 👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great review , was wandering if you could do a little video on the HUD , keen to see what functionality it had and if it integrates with CarPlay for navigation , messages , music etc .
I appreciate the real button and knobs. And unlike all the European cars, it has seat with separate head rests, not those stupid integrated head rest seats. @5:12 the glove box is large but there 's no lining mean anything you put in there will be rattling around with every turn. @5:17 Large shifter? Because its in the way of a lot of useful storage space. Most other car manufacturer have already moved on from the bean bag shifter. On the bright side none of that horrible piano black so that's something to be happy about.
I really wanted to buy one of these after driving thousands of miles in a rental RAV4 abroad, but it seems they have a big theft problem in the UK. Insurance is over 2x higher vs an equivalent XC40 or Tiguan. The extra security key is a good idea but it won't stop the opportunists in the short term, since they won't know the new model isn't vulnerable like the older RAV4. They'll still trash the car trying to gain access.
I don't think they will trash the car. The thieves use electrical devices for fobless entry and copying your fov's signal. If they can't get access, they leave. Some people use Faraday material to stop this by putting their keys in it.
Take security into your own hands, buy some rhino telescopic bollards, a disklok and an immobiliser with tracker. All this may cost you up-to £2k but you get peace of mind when you go to bed at night.
@@UnseenSpiriti had a faraday pouch, they came in the house through the back doors and took my car at 5am. After speaking with forensics they told me faraday pouch are a criminals best friend because they give you false sense of security and risk of home invasion. You need actual security like immobiliser and visible deterrent like bollards and disklok that covers the entire wheel.
Thank you for a very informative review. We are moving from the U.S. to Spain in November of this year, and are planning to purchase this vehicle in the Plug In Hybrid version. Do you know if there are any shortages or if the availability of this car is plentiful? Thanks again.
i didn't know which to buy this or the 3008 GT until i tested drive both and oh booy i bought the 3008 immediately the 3008 interior and a luxury brands level and the driving experience is much better than this and it looks better in my opinion and it's so reliable so far after a 250000km
Thank you for a fair review of an all too ordinary but market leading 4x4. In many ways what a manufacturer of top selling but not premium vehicles does is more interesting than what a premium manufacturer of exotica does. It was obvious that the RAV4 even GR Sport is not a thrilling ride. What is impressive is just how much you get for the money, how it works with a UI with proper buttons without looking like a teenage star ship, and how it just works day in day out. The PHEV version would suit my journey patterns (lots of local journeys) and also my charging at home from renewables. A PHEV is not just for city driving and it works for me in reasonably remote Worcestershire countryside away from major conurbations. That said, I would not want one except as some sort of second car.
its 2.5L Hybrid 306 HP is the best mainstream spec, I just hope, its 300 HP-mark be also available in other models too: -Sienna 2.5 Hybrid (top spec) -2025 Camry Hybrid (top spec) -Highlander (top spec) -Alphard luxury van (Japanese market) -Avalon (Chinese market)
Extra security token? Is this standard in Germany? Is Toyota starting to accept liability for the recent theft plague? Is the additional security measure coming to UK?
Hey Thomas. Nice review. My friend has 2022 Rav4 and ive been in it on long drive on czech motorway. Very impressed with the fuel economy for such large box on wheels. And the comfort was very good. Btw do you think you could invest in a decibel meter so we will have a real data?? I'm now in proces of choosing betwen Honda civic 2017 or Golf 2017 both 1.5 turbo. And some reviews also say that golf is much better insulated then the honda. But the Honda is much a bit bigger and also the pathetic parcel shelf on Honda WOULDN'T HELP MUCH with noise insulation from the massive boot!! We know golf is the dady in comfort but just how much more noise really is in the Honda?? Would be great to actually see the real numbers difference on lets say 70mph run. Im in UK. Just an idea? Love autogefuehl🙃🫠
@adamek9750 I live in Cambridge. I drive aprox 5 miles each way to work. And a lot of short journeys. Trust me diesel is the worst option for me. I'm also thinking about new corola 2.0hybrid.
@autogefuehl yes there will be always someone on the internet blaming you for not doing it in an airtight lab with moon suit on🤣🤣🤣 BTW I've been watching your channel for about 4 years now and sometimes I just play your reviews and close my eyes and listen to your voice. Sometimes there are ASMR moments and your voice has the ultimate qualities for it... Especially when you speak calmly and slowly with the quality large microphone and tge Thomas rumble in your voice. I think you would absolutely kill it in ASMR. Let's put it this way. The door closing sound and the clicking noises are by far my favorite from the reviews 🫠🤣 Love you work. Have a great Christmas and Happy early New Year😉
Why aren't the tail lights LED?And why is there no air conditioning system in the rear seats? I'm stuck on this No need to look for adventure, full package, full options, new Tiguan would be my choice
Thanks Thomas for the review. As an enthusiastic mechanic, I always wonder how good is for an engine to not drive on the its optimal conditions, which means around 90°C... When an engine starts once in a while and can't reach its running temp. I have a doubt on durability. Even though it's a Toyota, I'd like to have a technical explanation that no one gave me so far.
Well yeah I agree but reliability figures show that Toyota hybrids score well, consider that hybrid EV power also takes off load from the engine rpm wise
Good review but I can see that this driver is not used to the Toyota CVT system, you have to be very precise on the throttle , no need to for such frank accelerations to get a good strong engin feedback ..
I have a doubt... I already understood that the RAV4 HEV version does not charge via an outlet: the car's own intelligent system manages the use and recharging of the battery while we are simply driving the vehicle. The RAV4 PHEV version, on the other hand, can be charged via an outlet. But does it only charge via an outlet? Hypothetical situation... I'm going on a trip with the RAV4 PHEV. I left home with the battery fully charged (via an outlet) and a full tank of fuel. At a certain point during the trip, the battery runs out of power, so the combustion engine automatically kicks in to continue moving the car. From this point on, and until the end of the trip, will the combustion engine work only/exclusively to burn all the fuel in the tank and move the car? Or will the combustion engine also recharge the battery while the car is moving, as is the case with the HEV version? Asking another question... Is the battery only charged via an outlet in the RAV4 PHEV? Or does the car itself, when in motion, have the same intelligent system present in the HEV version that recharges/uses/recharges the battery?
The PHEV charges the battery just like HEV. The PHEV is an improvement over the HEV. It can do everything the HEV can AND allows you to charge the battery AND has a larger battery and more powerful electric motor so you can drive at highway speeds for ~40km on just the battery alone. In the Toyota eCVT drivetrain, the engine cannot work without the battery and electric motor. The electric motor is used to regulate the power output of the combustion engine. Search for videos on how the Toyota eCVT works and that should answer your questions.
Staid, boring, with a sea of shabby plastics in the interior, but it's practical, reliable, and comfortable enough. That sums up modern Toyota for you: when you're ready to retire from this mortal coil, you drive a Toyota.
Hi, Thomas, Great as always. I am waiting for mine to arrive in aprox 1 week, can't wait, even though I'm transitioning from a German vehicle. I have one question related to the EU regulation when going over the speed limit. Does it have any way to turn it off easily?
Cheers! The new EU regulation speed warning is tricky indeed. Activated with every vehicle start. And only few manufacturers have shortcuts yet to turn it off quickly (Mercedes, BMW, Tesla). However this RAV4 should not have it implemented yet in a fierce way, the very strict one only applies to newly homologated vehicles.
I actually expected much better performance from a GR vehicle. Seems like the GR badge is getting watered down just like the TRD badge got watered down in the early 2000's
@@grisellimay yeah but look at Honda: Type R. That's it, just Type R at the top, and no "Type R-sport" shenanigans to water down the name. Instead, they have badges like Si or Type S that carry their own pedigree.
@@TheBreakfastLover Perhaps Toyota is following many European brands, like BMW with their M and M Sport, Mercedes-Benz with AMG and AMG Line, and Audi has RS, S and S Line. Here in Europe, Toyota is clearly doing something right as they have overtaken Ford in both market share and sales. Honda is nowhere to be seen.
Where do you have the additional security token from? I own the same car and believe it or not there is no additional security token available. Maybe someone made a joke with you....
TBH, when I look at this version, that entered market in 2020, and new Prius / C-HR PHEV, I can't wait to see new version of this platform. New revision for the 2.5l, that was introduced in new Camry, same size of the battery with new tech - same dimension, weight would probably be around 20 kWh of capacity now, stiffer body and BAM 😀 we would have new RAV4 with 100 km potential range and more refined 5th gen hybrid gen.
0:08 US sales 2022 366,741 (supply chain shortages limited) 2021 407,739 2020 430,387 2019 448,068. I would assume the rest of the world matches or exceeds those numbers, which would make your statement questionable.
4:13 Physical controls. No AC controls on touch screens. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. If touch screens which have AC controls brake, you have lost some form of control of the vehicle.
Japanese cars have annoying turning indicators. They’re so small and dimly lit that here in Australia on a bright sunny day you can sometimes not even see them properly. Overall love the car best bang for your buck!
I drove a 2024 RAV4 hybrid yesterday and the new GSR speed limit sound alerts were really irritating. Is there a way to disable them permanently? There is supposedly a 16 click path at the start of every ignition cycle. That is too long.
Exactly, especially when you look at how far Honda goes to protect the Type R lineage over the past 25 years. You don't see Honda ruining the Type R name with any tomfoolery like "Type R-sport" or "Type R-line".
GR and GR Sport are two totally different things. Mercedes-Benz have been selling AMG models and AMG-Line models alongside each other for decades without any issues, the same goes for BMW M models and M Sport models.
@@TheBreakfastLover Watered down in the eyes of people on the internet who have no intention buying one. Those who are actually going out and spending their hard-earned cash are clearly happy with the cars the brand is offering them.
Hi Thomas and team. Mid next year will switch car (currently driving a v60 t6 ) , that needs to be a phev on the same price range or lower of the v60. Since I have 3 kids, need a lot of boot space and. If possible more rear space then the current one I have with the v60 (kids are growing). However I would also like to have the same power train capabilities that I have with the volvo (and that high level trim feeling that volvo also offers). Is the new rav4 a candidate? Any other candidates (like Mazda cx60)? That I should consider?
@@Harrythehun idk i didnt asked him his old car was diesel he went with ev so thats more efficent and in europe car gets roasted mainly by its price we have ens1 over here its basically the same car as european eny1 but its 2 times less expensive and for the money one of the best EVs to get
LOVING MATCHING CAR COLOURS WITH CLOTHING! WELL NOTED WITH APPRECIATIONS. HOWEVER I CANT SAY I AM ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT THAT CAR. BUT WHO KNOWNS , MAYBE THE NEXT MODEL… THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR WONDERFUL PRESENTATION
Drove the 2023 model for 2 weeks while my main car was in the shop. Idk, the build quality in terms of reliability is always good, but the actual build quality in terms of how things fit together, how it all feels, is so incredibly cheap. I definitely wouldn't buy it for the price it sells for, they're way too expensive for what you get. Also fuel economy is quite horrible on the petrol engines, in real life driving.
What mpg did you get on the petrol? I guess the appeal is hybrid for these cars. They are expensive and hold their price because in the long run you're less likely to pay for repairs etc. Over 150k-200k miles, I wouldn't touch other brands for example.
@@UnseenSpirit It was the 2.0 petrol, I got roughly around 22 mpg, which is utterly horrible for that small engine. This was during winter time, with not a lot of snow around and this wasn't even me driving aggressive, it's just basic driving. I'd personally never get hybrid, resell value is horrible for them and more things to go wrong.
@@dudarsky fair enough. That's bad mpg. Hybrid in the UK retains a lot of value, well Toyota anyway. The summer sand winters are mild compared to other countries and the batteries seem to last well here. The cost of ownership per mile over it's lifetime on a Toyota is pretty good because generally servicing it with oil changes etc is enough. Having had issues with Nissan and Ford, I'm sticking to Toyota. Cars in the garage is just stressful for me.
@@UnseenSpirit The thing that bothered me about that MPG was that my main car, a BMW X5 G05 40d mileage would only be around 29mpg, and that 29mpg is with me flooring it and always driving it like a mad man, also with all the horsepower behind it. While with the Toyota engine you would get horribly high fuel consumption and absolutely no acceleration as a result of it. I prefer punchy engines, that's why I avoid most car brands and always avoid smallest engines.
Thomas, great review. Toyota sells mechanical reliability and all round mediocrity. They don’t worry about the quality build of the car body, they invest more on reliability of drive train and transmission but then for that reliability they charge you as if it’s a bmw interior. If you think about it, it’s an ingenious model, offer them less overall but charge them more for what truly makes you a trustworthy brand…..as I go to Toyota to buy my own rip off 😂.
@@autogefuehl the Toyota connect you must pay for is not for everyone. Eg: if you don’t have a cell phone: no connection. If you have a cell phone and in a dead zone: no connection. Under these two situation: no navigation. Also Toyota has cancelled the GPS. In the end you end up with a very expensive radio. I have shared my concerns and they don’t care. All they want is your money with that money grabbing scam system. Other then that the vehicle is fine.
Pros Real buttons & switches Good soft materials in the rear Some amount of recline in the rear seats Heated rear seats -- nice but not that uncommon Rear view camera Reliability Cons Flimsy arm rest Bland monotone interior Legacy USB A Tiny volume knob Small door bins No panoramic sunroof No spare tire Small infotainment Buzzy engine at speeds The RAV4 is a great car for what its designed to do. Probably the best all-around SUV in its class. Very practical, but zero fun-to-drive. Precious little creature comforts, e.g. not the best place to spend time. I don't like the big awkward shifter on the center. Other manufactures have a better use for that space. The RAV4 is on my short list along with the VW Tiguan, and the Hyundai Tuscon, and Kona N, but it has a boat load of comprises, including its depression inducing interior (the Tuscan leads in this category). Thanks for another great review.
The RAV4 just had its second best selling month of ALL-time December 2023 only slightly behind August 2019 when the new body basically debuted. And that’s with its shortages and inflation around the world which didn’t exist before!
Toyota. Depressive .. stingy in technology and design.. look at the Camry 2025, they just changed the headlights! RAV4 suspension need tuning and the car needs refinement to reduce its high road noise. Only thing about Toyota is reliability and economy .. but no fun factor at all
Toyota, why no turbo engine, why no bigger capacity battery, why no phev capability, why the headrest is so much inclined forward, why ecvt and no transmission, why no 4x4 option, why no direct steering , why no good noise insulation… why no good steering and agility, why no better range , why no ev mode over the speed of 35km! why you only depend on reliability.. most of cars now are reliable! This is a vanilla product
Have u seen the model y sales? Outsold the rav 4 at a higher price bc the product is much better. Toyota is selling you on tech from 1999. Not interested.
To call this a sport SUV is really not ok. My 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper 1.5 Twinpower Turbo is much more capable than this and equally reliable and fuel economy is really sufficient at only 6l per 100km when driven at long highway trips, 7l when driven on short trips or sporty country trips. My RAV 4 would be way more the comfort and luxury approached style and not this so called sport style, because this ain't no sport configuration.
Why is it so popular? Because people buy the marketing bullshit and they are convinced they need an SUV to drive around town most of the time. Meanwhile they could've purchased a regular sedan or SW which makes more sense, costs less and consume probably less fuel but hey...If you want to burn your money on something useless who am I to judge? Having a GR badge on a bloody SUV is a disgrace to the real GR cars. Such a shameful trend which should be stopped.
This is a very practical car, much more than a sedan. My father owns one and it occasionally delivers even better mileage than my hatchback, drives over everything and is very roomy.
You seem confused between GR and GR Sport, which says more about you than it does about Toyota. Brands like Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have been successfully using things like S and S Line, AMG and AMG-Line, and M and M Sport for decades, without anyone crying about it.
@@bw1376 You mean Gazoo Racing? Does this shitcan look like a sporty car to you? Because in my vocabulary sport and SUV doesn't match. Can't recall that BMW or Merceses made any AMG or M version SUVs when they created the sporty lineup. But yes, it is me...

Thanks 🙏 i think I showed it briefly, didnt I ? It doesnt have much functionality though
This RAV4 actually looks good
Agreed, especially after the face lift of the front light from model year 2022.
Toyota number 1 when it come for reliability that's why people buying them I'm looking to buy one rav4 soon too
I can't believe in this day and age they're still using non LED bulbs. It beggars belief, especially considering the cost of the car.
Comfortable, reliable and cheaper than German cars 😘
Thank you for a very informative review. We are moving from the U.S. to Spain in November of this year, and are planning to purchase this vehicle in the Plug In Hybrid version. Do you know if there are any shortages or if the availability of this car is plentiful? Thanks again.
i didn't know which to buy this or the 3008 GT until i tested drive both and oh booy
i bought the 3008 immediately
the 3008 interior and a luxury brands level and the driving experience is much better than this and it looks better in my opinion and it's so reliable so far after a 250000km
Smart looking SUV
11:33 - "Hold mode" allows you to release the brake when you're stopped, in D (drive). It has nothing to do with battery. Otherwise, great review! 😁
O love that car❤❤
The GR version is simply fantastic😍😍
That said, I would not want one except as some sort of second car.
its 2.5L Hybrid 306 HP is the best mainstream spec,
I just hope, its 300 HP-mark be also available in other models too:
-Sienna 2.5 Hybrid (top spec)
-2025 Camry Hybrid (top spec)
-Highlander (top spec)
-Alphard luxury van (Japanese market)
-Avalon (Chinese market)
Extra security token? Is this standard in Germany? Is Toyota starting to accept liability for the recent theft plague? Is the additional security measure coming to UK?
You didn't show the length of the boot with lowered rear seats. Please always include full length, width, and height.
Love autogefuehl🙃🫠
honda 1.5 not that good, 1.6 idtec better

BTW I've been watching your channel for about 4 years now and sometimes I just play your reviews and close my eyes and listen to your voice. Sometimes there are ASMR moments and your voice has the ultimate qualities for it...
Especially when you speak calmly and slowly with the quality large microphone and tge Thomas rumble in your voice.
I think you would absolutely kill it in ASMR.
Let's put it this way. The door closing sound and the clicking noises are by far my favorite from the reviews 🫠🤣
Love you work. Have a great Christmas and Happy early New Year😉
I always wondered how hard to put on a heated steering wheel, this is annoyed me since 2018
Why aren't the tail lights LED?And why is there no air conditioning system in the rear seats? I'm stuck on this
No need to look for adventure, full package, full options, new Tiguan would be my choice
Great review
Thanks Thomas for the review.
As an enthusiastic mechanic, I always wonder how good is for an engine to not drive on the its optimal conditions, which means around 90°C...
When an engine starts once in a while and can't reach its running temp. I have a doubt on durability.
Even though it's a Toyota, I'd like to have a technical explanation that no one gave me so far.
Well yeah I agree but reliability figures show that Toyota hybrids score well, consider that hybrid EV power also takes off load from the engine rpm wise
@@autogefuehl Thanks for your response!
Meanwhile German cars running +100°c😭
Any VW runs at 90°C...100% sure.
New CR-V looks much better. Waiting for the test drive!
talk about boring, lol!
Good review but I can see that this driver is not used to the Toyota CVT system, you have to be very precise on the throttle , no need to for such frank accelerations to get a good strong engin feedback ..
Thanks! We do acceleration test as an acceleration test. I do drive it calmly otherwise
Cheers Thomas.I enjoy all your reviews.Do you think there will be a review of the Latest Toyota Corolla Estate 2.0 hybrid 2023 model.
Thanks! It is in here: ua-cam.com/video/s3okm3Qtc_Q/v-deo.html
Hi Great review, some interesting features, nice soft areas, good bucket seats, Do you know what the CO2 figures are, Thank you welshman 2081

Driving hopefully soon
Does it have B mode?
Simply a great car.
Staid, boring, with a sea of shabby plastics in the interior, but it's practical, reliable, and comfortable enough. That sums up modern Toyota for you: when you're ready to retire from this mortal coil, you drive a Toyota.
That can be said about a lot of mainstream cars today. Where Toyota differ is quality and reliability.
Hi, Thomas,
Great as always.
Seems like the GR badge is getting watered down just like the TRD badge got watered down in the early 2000's
it's a "GR Sport" not a "GR"
a la M Sport vs M
AMG 35/53 vs 63 AMG
F Sport vs F etc
@@grisellimay yeah but look at Honda: Type R. That's it, just Type R at the top, and no "Type R-sport" shenanigans to water down the name. Instead, they have badges like Si or Type S that carry their own pedigree.
It is a style package with worse suspension.
@@grisellimay those have been diluted too especially amg
@@TheBreakfastLover Perhaps Toyota is following many European brands, like BMW with their M and M Sport, Mercedes-Benz with AMG and AMG Line, and Audi has RS, S and S Line. Here in Europe, Toyota is clearly doing something right as they have overtaken Ford in both market share and sales. Honda is nowhere to be seen.
Where do you have the additional security token from? I own the same car and believe it or not there is no additional security token available. Maybe someone made a joke with you....
Tiguan killer 😎😁
TBH, when I look at this version, that entered market in 2020, and new Prius / C-HR PHEV, I can't wait to see new version of this platform.
New revision for the 2.5l, that was introduced in new Camry, same size of the battery with new tech - same dimension, weight would probably be around 20 kWh of capacity now, stiffer body and BAM 😀 we would have new RAV4 with 100 km potential range and more refined 5th gen hybrid gen.
No led fog lights :(
What is the real world fuel consumption?
6,5l summer +1l winter

0:08 US sales 2022 366,741 (supply chain shortages limited) 2021 407,739 2020 430,387 2019 448,068. I would assume the rest of the world matches or exceeds those numbers, which would make your statement questionable.
correct, the 400.000 is the US sales only, overall it is 1 million per year
Why bestseller? Cheap and it doesn't self destroy after 100 000kms
It's a shame that Toyota is busy watering down the GR Sport name just as they did with TRD.
Exactly, especially when you look at how far Honda goes to protect the Type R lineage over the past 25 years. You don't see Honda ruining the Type R name with any tomfoolery like "Type R-sport" or "Type R-line".
Toyota TuRD 😢
GR and GR Sport are two totally different things. Mercedes-Benz have been selling AMG models and AMG-Line models alongside each other for decades without any issues, the same goes for BMW M models and M Sport models.
@@bw1376 ironically, the AMG badge IS getting watered down. The GLC 300 AMG is slower than a Honda Odyssey minivan.

That I should consider?

thanks keep tuning in :)
"No fake exhausts at all" is a bit exaggerated... Like Stelvio... My question is WHY?????
I disagree. Toyota should stay Toyota. People buy them because of reliability. If you want a fast and fun car, buy something else.
Then buy a Lexus. The RAV4 is made the way it is for a reason.
Toyota is boring but reliable :). You know you will not have expensive problems.
a GR RAV4 Hybrid. Best we could do in the US is Hybrid XSE 😂
Thomas, great review. Toyota sells mechanical reliability and all round mediocrity. They don’t worry about the quality build of the car body, they invest more on reliability of drive train and transmission but then for that reliability they charge you as if it’s a bmw interior. If you think about it, it’s an ingenious model, offer them less overall but charge them more for what truly makes you a trustworthy brand…..as I go to Toyota to buy my own rip off 😂.
cheers m8 !
I got excited thinking this was a real GR. Toyota is being sneaky….
But it has a real GR badge on the front grille, from factory.

The RAV4 is a great car for what its designed to do.

Yearly sales coming down...
The RAV4 just had its second best selling month of ALL-time December 2023 only slightly behind August 2019 when the new body basically debuted. And that’s with its shortages and inflation around the world which didn’t exist before!

It’s a joke to put GR badging on this. Shame on this lame company.
This is a vanilla product
good points yes

It is not sporty though, the GR here is only styling and very light at that
Why is it so popular?
