Hopefully we will see this in future...Mr. Blume changed the Designer and ID2 is the first car/EV again looking like a VW...and Golf 9 will be a pure electric car, too.
Thomas is absolutely the best car reviewer out there. This is the absolute best review of the new Tiguan. Super informative. We were scheduled to replace wifey’s 2014 BMW X3 in late summer when the 2025’s come out. We were looking only at the Honda CRV, but now the 2025 VW Tiguan looks most promising. Design and engineering of the new Tiguan looks awesome. I had a VW ID4 on order. But when it arrived the design and software was awful so I rejected it after waiting 6 months. I am glad that VW returned to its traditional , well executed design rather than rounded lumpy awful aesthetic of the ID4. Kudos to VW. Is the new Passat coming back to the US? I hope so.
I super happy that they are bringing the normal buttons back! That’s a good sign, it might set a trend in a good way. As for the rest of the interior, I find that huge screen way too big and in your face, kind of unnecessary tbh. Thank you for the review!
Does it still come with the neat USB at the rear view mirror for a dashcam plug? I found that a really useful touch. We all need dashcams for manufactures that don't offer them from the factory. One in the rear would be even better. While I'm at it, a clip and port for an iPad on the rear of the front seats. I'd happily pay for those options, just to keep the kids entertained on those long road trip without having to hold the cell phone for hours. Lighted emblem is a gimmick but I wouldn't mind it if there was an on/off toggle. I like it better with the name to the side rear panel rather than the middle. I glad to hear the larger infotainment screen is an option. The 15" is way too big and not esthetic at all. Other than that. the interior is greatly improved. Save the hard plastic at the rear sill. @2:26 A portmanteau.
I personally don't agree. I like this way more. But maybe its because the mk2 is driven by old man or woman alot here in germany. And this looks really different, so it does not remind me that much of old people.
As the owner of MK2 pre facelift, I have ordered MK3. The interior is much better than MK2 material and option wise, also the physical buttons on the steering wheel are back. The mk2 facelifted climate controls are more or less the same, easy to access touch buttons with backlight. The only questionable thing for me is the gear selector placement and less control over the wipers because of this. I like the exterior of new R-line with black style package, looks fresh and distinct enough from the other car brands.
@vadimsportactually it’s perfect. Much Better than searching through different menus just for climate while driving. Turning a knob is always easier and safer.
What do you prefer, smooth plastic over hard plastic, thats great🤔 no! Only more garbage! High quality materials make sense in the area where you touch! The tiguan is considered one of the most durable and reliable SUV in Europe, that is quality!

31:35 high battery buffer keeps the battery degradation lower. I don’t know any PHEV which allows user to choose the level of charging so most of cars are charged to 100%. Which degrades the battery significantly. So it’s clever idea to use 80% of the battery and keep it healthy for years.
Hey, it's really good review with lots of details! Can I ask you to include more details on the PHEV driving. You did good including the information on driving EV only. But can you tell us about the sport mode. Can you drive in manual? Can you rev the engine hard and then change to the next gear? Can you down shift manually and accelerate? Basically can you drive it like a petrol car on the track? A PHEV is a good car for someone home charging and mostly short drives, but it is important that 1 it can drive in EV only without jumping to ICE. 2 it can drive relatively efficiently on longer drives, with regen etc.. 3 it can be driven hard, preferably with manual gear control when you want to and have some fun roads. Many thanks 👍
There are a few things I want to point out that I would really like to see in cars again but first idk what vw is doing with theirs designs right now. The id2all looks again really classic vw but they seem now to go more and more in this ev look directions with a design that was clearly only made for the id3. And it is kinda sad that we need to point out felt in the doors with cars at these prices (looking at you 5er bmw). A thing that also made me curious after your materials video I would really want to see more higher trim premium fabric seats. Like cord and such. Like the Japanese used to do. Microfiber is cool and all but why not more options? 😅😅 nevertheless enjoyable video as always👍
I have not found very good information on the PHEV powertrain specs, but it looks like power outputs are (petrol+electric=total) 150+54=204hp and 177+95=272hp. I would expect the difference in electric power (54 vs. 95) to have a significant impact on pure electric use. Then again, some source say the difference is only the electric motor power, but that seems unlikely. Are you able to clarify, or at least tell which you tested?
Great video! I always get excited when I see a new upload. Has there ever been a car door closing sound that has been amazing (apart from G-wagon). Because you said ‘good’ but not amazing so I’m curious what cars have a super premium door closing sound
Let’s be honest, they also made it $3500 to be a status symbol. They did the same with the AirPod max when compared to other headphones in their class.
Thanks for your reply. Theres , natch , elegance , r line. I want the pan roof as well. Also there is another contender the cx 5 homura. Just want a comfortable car for my family. Something I can look at and say yes that’s a good car. 🫢
Hi! Love the video. is it certain or confirmed that this Tiguan will have an illuminated VW emblem? I don't think that will happen anymore. It would be cool! 01:36
Looking forward to it! 😎@autogefuehl We're buying a passat r-line shortly and hoping to get some insight in the DCC, whether it is a must have or not 🤔 If i'm not mistaken all press cars up untill now have all been with DCC Pro.. (nice one VW 😋)
I have to replace my Golf 8 later this year and want to go for a 320i then. But this car seems awesome for long distance driving and looks great also. So I might stick with VW 👀 really excited for the 2.0 TSI tho
Looking forward to the upcoming PHEV Tiguan with the 50 mile ev range. Hopefully Volkswagen will allow a "camping mode" for owners to be able to use the climate controls (air conditioning/heat) while car camping in the Tiguan-- so that we enjoy battery powered AC/heat while camping! Please do this VW🎉🎉🎉
I have the same car as you and like the design better.. wish it had a little more horsepower though. I do like the inside a little better of the 2024 except for the giant TV .. lol.. why it can't be integrated into the dash!?
Not sure about the gloss black wheel arches. I own a 2018 Tiguan R-line and I honesty wouldn’t change a thing on the exterior. I almost like the elegance over the R-line in the new model.
Thanks for the excellent review, Thomas, however I must say I am disappointed with the roundish design of the recent VW models that follows the Japanese and Korean competition and doesn't feel typical VW any more... I personally prefer the straight lines of the previous model.
VW needs to start selling PHEV models in North America. Until battery technology greatly improves the PHEV solution is the best solution for going electric for many people. I do cross country travel, but around town up to 50 miles on electric would be plenty.
it's really expensive unfortunately for what's offering.. In my country(Romania), a mild hybrid it's sold for 42k euro which it's really a huge price... I think the PHEV will be way over 55k which it's a shame, with this money you can go for a GLC. Also, the waiting time of 9months+ it's really a shame.
@@japanwatchconnection thanks, makes sense all you said. I was just sitting in new X1 in a showroom. The steering wheel has the worst "leather" (or whtever it was) material I ever touched. It feels like some kind of rubber, just awful. These (small) things can easily turn me off from that choice. I will wait to see Tiguan definitively.
Hey @autogefuehl. Thank you for the great review. I'd like to ask for your personal opinion about how does this new generation Tiguan compares to XC40 which I'd say was class above until now. Did VW manage to catch-up on comfort and luxury level with Volvo?
i need the TIGUAN R released yesterday..i dont understand why the new model comes along yet the halo model isnt even revealed or shown to be even in development.
Hi Thomas, how it's 1.5eTSI comparable with 1.5TSI from the previous generation? Is it the same engine? Is it enough for new Tiguan? I am considering whether ordering now or wait for 2.0 TSI.
This engine has been out for the Golf for ages, the mhev system can save some fuel. Engine is fine for the car unless u dont expect much performance. For quicker autobahn driving the 2.0 is better
PHEVs could be a good solution for some people, but automakers view them only as “compliance” vehicles, which means they perform poorly, have lot of defects, have high consumption both in electric mode and in combustion mode at highway speeds (when you’d need the engine). A good PHEV which consumes less than 16Wh/km in EV mode and can do more than 15 km/l at highway speeds (130km/h) would be an excellent car. But no one makes it. All PHEVs are shit.

31:35 high battery buffer keeps the battery degradation lower. I don’t know any PHEV which allows user to choose the level of charging so most of cars are charged to 100%. Which degrades the battery significantly. So it’s clever idea to use 80% of the battery and keep it healthy for years.
Really like recent VWs both electric or fossil.
Looking forward Lancia Ypsilon review
Cheers! Yea you can do that!
it's so cute how thomas is flustered more often when his sweetie lea....😻
Which of the PHEV was used in the test drive, 204 or 272hp?
I have not found very good information on the PHEV powertrain specs, but it looks like power outputs are (petrol+electric=total) 150+54=204hp and 177+95=272hp. I would expect the difference in electric power (54 vs. 95) to have a significant impact on pure electric use.
Then again, some source say the difference is only the electric motor power, but that seems unlikely.
Are you able to clarify, or at least tell which you tested?
Great video! I always get excited when I see a new upload. Has there ever been a car door closing sound that has been amazing (apart from G-wagon). Because you said ‘good’ but not amazing so I’m curious what cars have a super premium door closing sound
cheers m8 !
I cant learn to like the Taigo style lights on the back
Let’s be honest, they also made it $3500 to be a status symbol. They did the same with the AirPod max when compared to other headphones in their class.
Great video. Thank you. I’m unsure if to go for the elegance or the r line trim . Please help 😊.
Thanks! Mid trim will also be just fine. Dont buy animal skin seats so u ll have better comfort and care about the animals 🙏
Thanks for your reply. Theres , natch , elegance , r line. I want the pan roof as well. Also there is another contender the cx 5 homura. Just want a comfortable car for my family. Something I can look at and say yes that’s a good car. 🫢
The aerodynamic shape looks a bit like that of the Audi Q4.
Great video as always, looking forward to see that peugeot 3008 review.
yes working on it as we speak!
Will also be super interesting !
Hi! Love the video. is it certain or confirmed that this Tiguan will have an illuminated VW emblem? I don't think that will happen anymore. It would be cool! 01:36
supposed to come at a later stage !
Yes, bring back all them buttons, knobs! Get rid of shiny glossy piano black inlays, and here we go, back to the good old 2010s VW interiors
Top review as always, thanks Thomas!
When can we expect the VW Passat driving review?
thanks! March 6th!
Looking forward to it! 😎@autogefuehl
We're buying a passat r-line shortly and hoping to get some insight in the DCC, whether it is a must have or not 🤔
If i'm not mistaken all press cars up untill now have all been with DCC Pro.. (nice one VW 😋)
„Hey Aldär!“ Endlich kann der Assistent auch Jugendsprache 😂
I have to replace my Golf 8 later this year and want to go for a 320i then. But this car seems awesome for long distance driving and looks great also. So I might stick with VW 👀 really excited for the 2.0 TSI tho

Looking forward to the upcoming PHEV Tiguan with the 50 mile ev range.
Hopefully Volkswagen will allow a "camping mode" for owners to be able to use the climate controls (air conditioning/heat) while car camping in the Tiguan-- so that we enjoy battery powered AC/heat while camping! Please do this VW🎉🎉🎉
PHEV driving part is also in this video :)
@@autogefuehl thank you! Is there a camping mode or setting that allows owners to use the air conditioning or heat while sleeping in the car? Thanks!
Hallo Thomas, Any chance of a detailed / driving review of the new Skoda Superb anytime soon? 🙂
Yes! On it!
I think my 2022 Tiguan R-Line Black is a WAY better design, it's a sexy car. This new one looks so boring.
I prefer the pre-facelift as well. This one looks as if it's designed by Toyota.
Me too. The general external design is a step back and just looks like all the other id cars.
So true other one looks like proper suv
I have the same car as you and like the design better.. wish it had a little more horsepower though. I do like the inside a little better of the 2024 except for the giant TV .. lol.. why it can't be integrated into the dash!?
Thanks for the upload!
It looks great. Probably get a water down version here in America if we even get it here at all
great review
🙏🙏
Not sure about the gloss black wheel arches. I own a 2018 Tiguan R-line and I honesty wouldn’t change a thing on the exterior. I almost like the elegance over the R-line in the new model.
Thanks again for sharing
Tiguan getting more premium and more sophisticated 🙏🏻
At a price of course. Getting far too complicated with too many unnecessary gizmos.
It looks good specially the R version
Thanks for the excellent review, Thomas, however I must say I am disappointed with the roundish design of the recent VW models that follows the Japanese and Korean competition and doesn't feel typical VW any more... I personally prefer the straight lines of the previous model.
VW needs to start selling PHEV models in North America. Until battery technology greatly improves the PHEV solution is the best solution for going electric for many people. I do cross country travel, but around town up to 50 miles on electric would be plenty.
Toyota already has the RAV4 phev, it is a better package
Looking forward to the first review by Lea from Autogefüll 😇.
it's really expensive unfortunately for what's offering.. In my country(Romania), a mild hybrid it's sold for 42k euro which it's really a huge price... I think the PHEV will be way over 55k which it's a shame, with this money you can go for a GLC. Also, the waiting time of 9months+ it's really a shame.
Love the grown up design! Thanks VW.
Car looks really nice. I am considering it and how would you compere it with new X1? Or even q3?
@@japanwatchconnection thanks, makes sense all you said. I was just sitting in new X1 in a showroom. The steering wheel has the worst "leather" (or whtever it was) material I ever touched. It feels like some kind of rubber, just awful. These (small) things can easily turn me off from that choice. I will wait to see Tiguan definitively.
2:10 very important moment
Animals symbols or …. The other reason to look at 2:10 😍
Hey @autogefuehl.
There sadly wont be any Tiguan R my friend
I hope we get this Tiguan in the U.S. as a 2025 model.
For 21:36 Thank you (VW programmer here :D )
Thanks for the review! Is there going to be Tiguan R for this gen?
I like these so much! Can I trust reliability? Or should I just lease it?
Looks like VW has taken some ideas from Kia with the part over the glove apartment. Ps nice work as always Thomas and co 👍🏻

It is better because you will save money in fuel. Unless you need AWD, 1.5TSI is better.
So to summarise this Phev in cheapest variant isn’t any good?
well, we do need some real world tests, given this is a new drivetrain.
