CAT UPDATE: Turns out i have actually severe allergies to cats, that resulted in an asthma attack... So unfortunetly we wont be able too keep her, but we will never forger her. Praise Sam
I think the optimal setup for this run is actually using one staff of the guilty and casting with an albinauric staff while leveling arcane. That way you increase the bleed buildup way more
I feel a small change that could be made to slighty improve the sorceries is removing the fp cost and just making its resource fully hp at least that way you don't have to worry about maintaining both hp and fp
That feels so much better on paper but the more I think about it the more I notice that maybe it’s not better. The main reason it sucks is because it also takes HP are we sure we want it to take more? Plus we’re gonna have to refill it with flasks either way and we should have both types on us. With the last part being maybe FP is more “efficient” because I know a FP flask fully refills me while HP doesn’t. Not that I disagree with you, those are just some potential downsides I noticed
I was a bit surprised by the choice to use Lusat's instead of dual Staves of the Guilty, but it does offer 13% more damage at 80 INT (vs 80 FTH). Which is a bit more than Lusat's usual ~10% advantage over Carian Regal. Going 20 INT (for Terra Magica) 80 FTH would give access to defensive buffs and heals on the way, but that didn't seem to be necessary. 👍
Briar's of Punishment has a true combo with Brians of Sin. If you cast punishment and immediately cast sin after you can skip to the second stab. Of course, the windup is still atrocious but you can get a few spells off much faster. You can even do it back and forth. So you can do punishment, combo into sin, combo into punishment, into sin.... and so on.
I really wish fromsoft would buff a lot of the incantations and spells considered the worst, even if they are viable, like these sorceries, I wish they would make it actually versatile enough to use
In some ways that’s unwinnable because you kind of need “bad” versions to make the good ones feel powerful. I’m honestly not sure if a game where all spells were truly equally viable would be more boring. Maybe the freedom to switch would overrule the disappointment that nothing is stronger. Hard call
There needs to be a briar sorcery that functions like a whip. Think carian slicer but it’s a whip that does less damage but with added bleed instead of a sword
Aberrant sorcery needs int but it also needs faith. Meaning there is some cruel bloody outer god that favours the faithful and gives them the sorcery in exchange for sacrifice, and it especially fits cast out wizard criminals.
the aoe follow up attacks have increased damage the further you go, and they actually have different recovery frames, the second hit has the fastest recovery
I’m so sorry the kitten didn’t work out, I got a new kitten myself about a month ago and thankfully none of us have cat allergies. Also, amazing run! I really wish there were more of these sorceries, they have such a cool concept, they just suck ass.
I would like to see this school of sorcery expanded in the DLC. I would like to see a throwing pot that explodes into thorns but also an ashes of war that makes the weapon (whip?) extend an extra long segment of pure thorn that after you hit the enemy it wraps around them and when the hit is over and you pull your weapon back, they inflict damage to the enemy that was wrapped. Also, a jar-cannon type of bolt ammunition that results in a cloud of thorn would be cool. Like the exploding bolts but these do thorn damage instead. Maybe an ash of war that applies to shields and make the shield completely covered by thorns, so if you attack with the shield you do thorn/bleed damage but even if you just defend with a shield the attacker still takes thorn/bleed damage. On top of this, please add two or three normal thorn sorceries. It would be really cool. With some more spells and options I think this could be a fun school to use. But I will not suffer myself through a playthrough with just these two, lets say, hard to use spells.
Toto: “I now know why it’s called briars of sin, because it’s a sin that this spell is in this game.” Also Toto at 17:44: “These spells are actually not bad at all!”
One thing I've noticed about the sorceries that take a long time to cast in any case or have a penalty of some kind for casting them, like abberant or bubble sorceries, they usually deal very good poise damage compared to other sorcereries.
Speaking of the glitch with Godrick, I encountered a glitch where I perfectly timed a stagger riposte with the phase transition so there was no cutscene, he was just in a dragonless phase 2
it upsets me most with these spells because I loved the look of Briars of Punishment the most.. they look awesome but they were absolutely the opposite unfortunately.
just going to note: Instead of lusats staff you could have gone albinaurics staff. Since it has arcane scaling it actually effects the bleed. yeah you loose out of a fair bit of raw per hit damage but that sweet bleed buildup is great for bosses that can be bled.
@@tototriceps Honestly didn't realize how much damage the thorn sorceries could do; I wonder if Briars of Punishment is actually good, hard for me to tell how this was performing compared to a similar optimized build for a spell like... I dunno, Night Comet or something
looking more like toto biceps after that morgott kill. i love these spells. i thought these were so cool after my fight with Alberich so i became a sorcerer my first run. been waiting for the totothorn run, but yeah briars of punishment basically does no bleed
You took down the Tree Sentinel in under 10 seconds. Sure man, this spell sucks. TBH, this looks even more OP than IronBall. I think I must do a thorn playthrough right now. Insanity. Pure insanity.
i wonder if someone actually played like this in their first run of the game, like they picked some very specific spells that seemed cool to them and started applying every buff they came across and then they started doing some insane numbers and trivialising late game boss fights because you didn't really go that much out of your way to optimise your build lmao
These spells actually look kinda fun to use shame they have such a high commitment barrier, but nonetheless, I might try them next time when I'm playing elden ring.
I made the mistake of seeing the thumbnail and quickly assumed that this was just an Alberich cosplay run, which wouldn't be too hard, because his scythe is actually a solid weapon, but with just the thorn spells? Damn, this one must've been rough.
Elden ring challenge runs are challenging, until you can get the forbidden over 90% extra damage buffs lol. Btw as an aberrant sorcerer enjoyer, using the albinauric staff you get an arcane scaling on your spells, increasing their bleed proc!
Since we talking optimization, i think two staff of the guilty full faith would have done a bit more damage. Plus you wouldn't have to split stats between int and faith as much.
@@tototriceps yeah, but staff of the guilty stacks. And i think the way buffs work in elden ring you'd get over a 40% boost, cause it'd be 120% + 20% of that 120. Also this might be just me tripping, but i think they nerfed lusat's, cause i'm looking at the wiki and it doesn't have that "boost sorceries by x%" effect anymore, it just has the big scaling numbers.
the one thing most people and i get tho are not dumb to are not every spell and incantation is for everything so its not the worst the worst would be healing as u can do damage but only to undead the thorn stuff works good in pvp i used it a while it caught people off guard and has versatility in that regard

I think the optimal setup for this run is actually using one staff of the guilty and casting with an albinauric staff while leveling arcane. That way you increase the bleed buildup way more
That is actually a good variation to the build!
I think one thing that really holds back these spells is the fact that there are only 2 in the category meaning they severely lack versatility.
That and that they are too slow to cast.
It’s ironic how your least favorite spell turns out it be one of the best challenge runs
Funny how life functions sometimes haha

Super Super optimal optimization takes more time and levels, i try to optimize it with the least amount of work Thats why Lusat is always superior.

u dont do bleed build up cuz u didnt level up arcane

I was thinking the same thing. Just imagine how much more damage you would be causing...

Elden ring players when boss doesn't follow a set attacl pattern: boss is bugged
