Sorry for the broken english lol, thanks a lot, keep going strong.
I have been encouraged by the success of UA-camrs over 50. We have stories and experiences to share! Just got monetized last week after what felt like slow growth but growth can be exponential 🤠
I did 3 videos a week for about 18 months from 2016-2018. It really did kick my channel growth into high gear and I grew very quickly after a while. 2 things I've learned since then: 1. That was a winning formula for UA-cam in that era. It might not be now. 2. every decision has its ramifications. I went for volume of output over technical quality. That's not the right trade off for others. Everything was one take, one shot and very little editing. Eventually, that didn't work as well for me. Everything changes. Thanks for the great video, Kevin!
I just found your channel and I love it. Thanks for all the great info you give. I live in Myrtle Beach, SC, I am a solo creator and I do Scuba Diving and Spearfishing videos. I am 52 and it is so much fun. Thanks again,
I appreciate you so much! I've had my channel since 2013 and only have 40 subscribers! lol I think I may just be awful at it, but I still love doing it. I was let go from my online tech job of 13 years at 56 and then again with a coaching job after 8 months at 58. I'd love this to work and be my 'job', but I'm just not getting it moving. You're videos are helping so much and giving me hope. I'm also a Jesus freak. lol Thank you for what you do from Oregon!
I'm in the "Older" UA-camr zone as well and enjoying every second! I'm slowly going down my own kinda path... Thanks for the video! From dark and a bit chilly Ireland! ☘☮🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮☘

Just found your channel and subbed cheers. Ive been uploading my photography based channel for seven years it's done well the last two years gone from 1k subs to almost 3k so it can be done. I pretend not to care when a video absolutely tanks but In truth it's frustrating there's no obvious reason why some do well and some dont. UA-cam Creation still fun though.

Hey Kevin, I do enjoy watching your inspirational content. A bit long in the tooth myself :) at 66. I have a UA-cam channel focused on overcoming low vision challenges as a legally blind UA-cam creator and one-man band. I appreciate the amount of time and resources you dedicate to your videos, thank you so much for that. I have recently started including recommendations, tips, and tricks focused on age-related vision loss problems. Make it a great day for your special needs child. God bless!
Hi 👋. Liking your positivity about "just do it". I just started a channel and I'm not seeing much but I've watched my videos and I know why. I'm working on being more interesting and editing all videos.
Another good video... thanks Kevin! There are a lot of "click bait" videos out there ("How to make $3,000 in 3 days!" :)) that are very unrealistic of how easy it is to create vidoes on YT and to gain subscribers. I'm glad that you're telling the truth... watching from Canada.
I'm from the US and I have just started giving thoughts to starting my channel up. I actually wanted to several years ago, but did not. Now I'm starting to get things going. I've seen 2 of your videos so far and they have both been so helpful and encouraging

I love UA-cam … it’s so challenging and excited. Plays with your emotions like no other. I am a new subscriber to your channel. I love how real and authentic you are. You seem like such a kind soul. I hope you continue to make content about your journey. It’s so inspiring and helps us more than you know.,At the end of it.. do what makes Kevin happy. I’m so glad I found your channel… I’m looking forward as we grow as fellow UA-camrs.Thank you for your awesome content .. Hope to keep learning from you💪🥰
Last year I came across a video of a guy interviewing kids at a HighSchool Robotics competition. Apparently this is a world wide thing i never heard about and not having any kids of my own never gave much thought to such programs in HS. I've always been a hands on, do it yourselfer and thought that would be fun to pass along skills I've learned to younger generations as I see more and more kids not knowing how to even change a tire or charge a car battery, etc. Well I checked the local HS and found they have a Robotics team (FIRST Robotics Competitions) and volunteered as a mentor and I love it! Now with your inspiration I hope to grow my YT channel and teach these skills to not just the local kids but to whoever finds my channel.

Whoa! This is one day old, and you're already past 23k! Kudos! I'm in the over-40 (now over-50!) crowd, and am a baby UA-camr (old channel, recently active). Even at this point, barely over a year in, I am already feeling pressure (from myself) not to pivot-or refocus. "I am building momentum, I can't disappoint the people the people who are watching..." Still, I'm also highly aware of being a fledgling channel and UA-cam trying to figure out what the heck it is that I do. You're right, though: Everyone has something to say! Love your style and your delivery, and glad you happened into my suggested videos. See you again!
Hi Kevin! Always such helpful and encouraging advice in your videos! I'm 59, from the US and at the beginning of my journey! Learning something new that is so far out of my comfort zone is already teaching me so much! Your video on starting a channel after 40 snagged me into your world along with some of the other creators that you mention. Thank you and I look forward to exploring and getting started! Have a fabulous day my friend!
Hey Kevin. Enjoyed the video! We started our vlog - mostly travel related - about a month ago. It’s for our friends and family to come along on our journey as we transition from kids at home to life on the road in our 50s. It’s really gotten me to be creative which doesn’t come naturally but I’m loving it! Thanks for your content and encouragement.
Bonsoir Kevin from a small portside village in the South of France. New subscriber here. Thanks for the pep talk - just the ticket. I've literally just posted my first ever video at 62 years old and was feeling a wee bit wobbly. I know that it's far too early to judge anything at all but great that you encapsulate how to deal with some of the negative chat in the back of my mind. Actually one of the reasons I started it is because I have a strong gut feeling that us baby boomer and gen x-ers are a really powerful audience. Queue music track "Talking 'bout my generation". Good stuff.
Hi Kevin. I just came across this video on my Home page and I like it. You have a great voice, have down to earth quality, and are providing useful information. I have a faceless art tutorial channel and have been on YT since 2021. I really started to get serious about it in Dec 2023 and went from 100 odd subscribers to 1000 in 3 months. I took 3 months off this past Spring and started up again in July. One video took off all because I released it on a different day and time than I usually do. It got me the rest of the watch time that I needed to get monetized and I am now at 8700 subscribers! I have found that 1 video per week is what I can reasonably manage and sometimes I will release 2/week. As a lot of people say, you just have to hang in there if you are serious about being a content creator. At some point it may take off! Thank you for this video. Warm regards, Tracey.
I’ve been posting as a hobby, just things i think are fun. Inwas thinking of it as a legacy in case i get hit by a bus or something so my kids could tell my future grandkids hey look, your grandma was fun. But now I’m thinking of doing it to grow a channel. Your video was helpful.
Hi Kevin! Thank you so much for the inspiration. My wife and I have a UA-cam channel and right now we have 171 subscribers. We have gained about 50 subscribers in the last six months or so. Our content is about travel, discovery and connecting with nature and each other. We are both over 55. I’m very much looking forward to growing this, however, my wife, and I agree that, if anything, we’re doing this for us. I think the most important thing is doing something that fulfills you, not the UA-cam algorithm. We will keep going and thanks to people like you we will find our inspiration. Thank you so much!
Really appreciate you sharing that. I think your both spot on about where to focus on. People > Algorithm is 100% true. Hope you keep enjoying the journey!
I am in my mid-50s and getting active on my channel and I am still working on creating quality content, learning every day and have been binge watching channels like yours giving advice to new UA-camrs. Keep up the good work and I agree there need to be more content creators in the GenX generation, keep encouraging them to get on the platform and share their story.
Thank you for sharing this story. I myself am a 45 solo content creator and I will agree with everything you just shared. I don’t think the general viewer have any idea 16:36 how much work and effort goes into creating Yt content. Altho tasking at time I have found to be very rewarding when you read that one comment that someone really appreciates your hard work. Thanks again for sharing and you definitely have another sub from this guy. Oh and by the way from southern utah and looking forward to hitting 20k subs

Hi, I'm 66 years old, a German UA-camr, I've been living in Thailand for years. And yes, sometimes you lose focus and get bogged down, I know that ;) Thanks for the video, for your inspiration.
Good stuff man, I love so much that there are so many people around my age (50) doing their thing! I started a couple weeks ago and am seeing slow but steady growth and I'm learning from results. Most of all I'm just enjoying it. Also I'm on the surface of the Sun, Arizona. Appreciate you brother!
I just found your channel and ..at 53... These channels I am finding of 50 plus folks on UA-cam are so refreshing.... And I appreciate your faith. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the pep talk... I working in a very technical area that everyone uses, but few understand, Wireless (Cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth/Public Safety). I am working on planning out the "right way" to make it easy for "regular" people to understand and apply to their homes/work/church/etc. At 68, I have a lot expertise to share, but I don't what to be overly authoritative. What can I do to make sure I am not assuming to much understand and at the same time, not talk down to people? Thanks Kevin.
I am 52 and just started my second UA-cam channel. I had lost track of my first one (popular music with pretty photos as a background) and recently recovered that channel after 10 years and one of my videos had 41 thousand + views. It was people like you that inspired me to really try this time. I've been doing it now with my new channel for a few weeks with minimal but clear growth. Thank you for all you do!
Recently found your channel. Starting a channel has been on my mind for quite some time. Im 53 with 30 yrs in the film and tv world, amongst many other things, maybe I do have a thing to two to share. Watching form Gold Coast, Australia.
Thanks for this, Kevin. I started my channel in late May 2024 and I'm truly loving it. I'm a retired 57 year old from the Puget Sound area of Washington state. This video was exactly what I needed right this moment. I'm trying to stay realistic with my expectations (AKA premeditated disappointments) and most of all, stay authentic to myself. I might just put this video on repeat when I need a pep-talk! I appreciate you.
Thank you so much for your channel, I started to pivot my channel to motivational videos and adventure myself to put my face into them, I still don’t know how to grow my channel or monetize it because I just upload shots. Is a fun journey!
The algorithm brought me here today. I’m Skye from Australia and I’m a landscape and travel photographer. I started vlogging my travel and photography trips this year, and all though I struggle with posting consistently, I’m enjoying the challenge that creating video brings. My intention for my channel is more on personal level. To serve as a memory keepsake for when I’m older to remind me of my adventures and mishaps. But I also hope to create something that others find of value, especially the travel vlogs as there is not much targeted for my age group. I do hope to monetise my channel in a bid to help find more adventures, but I’m not even close to the subs required
All great advice. I started faceless because I'm an introvert and was afraid of being on camera. But my niche wasn't conducive to faceless. The subject is too deep and personal. Just started with my face, learning along the way. You offer the type of advice I need. ❤
Thanks for the solid advice, Kevin. I'll be starting my UA-cam channel shortly at the young age of 77! @@TamarKnochel Yay! Let's go for it. I have a sewing machine gathering dust in my office ;) There's no downside or "failure" when we frame our channels as a knowledge inheritance...it becomes a learning time capsule for our family line! That's not the right trade off for others. Everything was one take, one shot and very little editing. Eventually, that didn't work as well for me.
Everything changes.
Thanks for the great video, Kevin!
Appreciate you sharing those tips! Thanks so much!
I just found your channel and I love it. Thanks for all the great info you give. I live in Myrtle Beach, SC, I am a solo creator and I do Scuba Diving and Spearfishing videos. I am 52 and it is so much fun. Thanks again,
Very cool!
Thank you for sharing this information. "God Defines You and People Don't" that's great sound advice.
You are so welcome
I'm in the "Older" UA-camr zone as well and enjoying every second! I'm slowly going down my own kinda path...
Thanks for the video! From dark and a bit chilly Ireland! ☘☮🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮☘
Dude! Nothing wrong with doing your own thing! We need that! Hey back from the US!
New channel here, I put out 2 videos a week. 3rd week now, 42 subs. Slow but hopefully steady! 20k seems like a lifetime away! Amazing milestone for you :D
Keep creating. Glad you started.
Keep Grinding it will pay off sometimes takes a while
@@shanacookthecanukgypsy9527 Thanks! It's only been 3 weeks but fun so far
I'd be lying if I said it doesn't sting but you learn it's not personal and just keep creating.
@@KevinKolbe exactly where I'm at I know I'm leaving something for my grandkids to look back on when I'm toast 📸
Thanks for sharing your experience and the creative journey on UA-cam, great tips and reminders for all ages.
Thanks for watching!
I'm 55 and just starting. It's fun learning new skills! Thanks for the encouragement :)
You are so welcome!
👍😁Great UA-cam channel and very good info about being a UA-camr influencer.💯💯💯
Great advice! Thanks! I like your saying God defines you I absolutely agree with that fist 👊
Absolutely!
45 and was always active on my Facebook account about creative ideas and projects I worked on. Mainly was just my friends. Started my channel around May/June 2024 and currently growing. At 135 subscribers, 40,000 views, and 800 watch hours. Continuing to learn, improve and implement new tools. Thank you for sharing great ideas and inspiration.
Nic!
God bless!
Appreciate you sharing that. Glad it helped. Thank you for watching.
Hi 👋. Liking your positivity about "just do it". I just started a channel and I'm not seeing much but I've watched my videos and I know why. I'm working on being more interesting and editing all videos.
Watching you from DR.
I’m 25 and I love what you are doing.
Thank you so much!
Appreciate that! Hey from the US.
Love that!! God defines me people do not therefore don’t take it personally just keep it moving forward regardless of age or anything
I'm from the US and I have just started giving thoughts to starting my channel up. I actually wanted to several years ago, but did not. Now I'm starting to get things going. I've seen 2 of your videos so far and they have both been so helpful and encouraging
Very cool.
Kevin .. I love that you share your journey, and how long you been grinding for. It’s so nice to see you are gaining traction now. I think you’re not giving up… is better than any story. Listening to you share your journey is just magic to us.. trying to get were you are. I’m a new subscriber. I’m 52 years old and have been grinding hard at UA-cam for the last 1.5.. like 12/14 hours a day .. trying to learn as much as possible. Just got monetized this month before my 52 B-Day. Hope to keep learning from you💪🥰
Really appeciate that. Thanks so much for sharing and watching too.
Oh that is SO cool! So excited for you to do that! Thank you so much for sharing too!
41 years old watching you from Latvia 🇱🇻 & feeling very inspired listening to you & feeling blessed UA-cam decided to plaster your thumbnail in front of me & I clicked. Thank you so much for all that you do & sharing your gift generously 🙏🏾🙌🫶🏼💖 learning lots here, your experience and efforts are appreciated 💖🙏🏾
Very cool! Glad it helped. Hey from the US.
Love this message! As a 50 something, empty nesting, retired-ish, grandma who just started a desert gardening channel, this is just what I needed to hear. Thanks for your positive input on coming into the UA-cam universe as an "older" creator. Looking forward to hearing more. 😀
Sounds great!
New Sub here! I’m 49 and started UA-cam tutorials a few months ago. I’m currently at 1060 subscribers! My watched hours are still pretty low I only have 15 videos out. I’m determined to be more consistent because I have great content. Just need to focus more and trust Gods timing 🙏🏾
1060 subs is great! Keep creating!
Kevin, I"m having so much fun doing these videos. It's really allot of enjoyment that I'm getting out of this, but I love a challenge. Appreciate your knowledge
Thanks!
I appreciate you brother for sharing your insights and lessons learned. Praise God for speaking through you. I’m 58 and I almost accidentally started my channel about a year ago. I’m enjoying it and I’m continuing to learn from folks like you. Thank you!
I appreciate that
Hi Kevin, I am so glad I found your channel. I am 63 and are planning to start my own channel. Ronel Prinsloo from South Africa ❤
Cool! Hey from the US.
Thank you for an excellent video. Im 59 and trying to figure what to do. Im aged out in my field and I have several hobbies and avid bad sci fi reader. I am one of the ones whe doesnt think they have anything. What Id like to do is just videos of my opinion on some events/happenings/schtuff as well as commenting on some of the really bad paranormal stuff out there. Thank you you for some insights
And lastly, thanks for the recommendation about "The Final Cut Bro" as this will be another invaluable resource for me to use along with your videos to learn all things Final Cut Pro. I truly appreciate your authentic, genuine, human approach to YT. So much so I gave you my very first "Thanks". You're worth that and so much more! 👏🏻
Really appreciate that. Thank you!
Whoa! This is one day old, and you're already past 23k! Kudos!
I'm in the over-40 (now over-50!) crowd, and am a baby UA-camr (old channel, recently active). Even at this point, barely over a year in, I am already feeling pressure (from myself) not to pivot-or refocus. "I am building momentum, I can't disappoint the people the people who are watching..."
Still, I'm also highly aware of being a fledgling channel and UA-cam trying to figure out what the heck it is that I do. You're right, though: Everyone has something to say!
Love your style and your delivery, and glad you happened into my suggested videos. See you again!
Appreciate you watching and sharing too. Keep creating!
Just a beginner in youtube with have 40subs rn. I hope all small UA-camrs will grow someday. Keep grinding and exploring new ideas.
40 subs is something! Keep creating.
First off, Congratulations on the 20k! Secondly, I’m curious if you are related to the UA-camr Nate Black. Totally the same vibe.
Nope.
@@KevinKolbe Oh wow! I was so sure….lol. Thanks for verifying.
Just got monetized a couple weeks ago. Congrats on your tremendous growth! Still working on finding what works best with my audience.
It took me a while but you can do it!
Appreciate that. Just start and grow as you go!
Very cool. Love the channel name too.
@@KevinKolbe thanks Kevin! My wife is writing her first novel and it’s both our third marriage🤣!
Congrats! Wow you’re at 27k since this video, amazing. Great quality and videos, keep it going.

First off.. your vibe is amazing 👌. You remind me of my uncle 🥹.
2nd. Thank you for the openness and sharing your knowledge. Mad Respect and Love 🤘❤️
Really appreciate that! ✌️❤️
Good stuff.
Great to hear it struck a chord! Thanks for watching. Hey from the US.
Thanks for sharing your story!
Trying to grow as a small youtuber can be so frustrating but won't give up💪
YES!
Every time I listen to you, it gives me confidence to do more.
Alright! Let's go!
I’ve been posting as a hobby, just things i think are fun. Inwas thinking of it as a legacy in case i get hit by a bus or something so my kids could tell my future grandkids hey look, your grandma was fun. But now I’m thinking of doing it to grow a channel. Your video was helpful.
I am doing something similar so I would encourage you to go for it
You are so funny, love your vibe AND your transparency! 👌
Awwww, thank you!
@@KevinKolbe Thank you so much.

Hey former news peep! I miss some things about TV - my team, FOX swag 😁, but overall, yes, LOVIN' the online video life!
Amazing keep going ❤
Thank you so much for sharing that.
Thanks so much for the good information. I am 37 and started making videos on UA-cam and now you are my best teacher..love from Pakistan. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Nice. Hey from the US.
Always nice to hear from older people(not old but wiser).❤️🥰Learning something meaningful is always a blessing. May God bless you and your family as you continue to be a blessing to us all.🙏🥰

Good for you for starting! Keep creating!
Well done on your channel, it's a great achievement.
Thank you very much!
I just found your channel and ..at 53... These channels I am finding of 50 plus folks on UA-cam are so refreshing.... And I appreciate your faith. Thanks for sharing!
Appreciate you watching.
Good question. Maybe try it just like you're talking to a friend who's curious but doesn't know what to ask.
Nice. Hey from the US.
53 and new UA-camr. From the Netherlands but living in the USA . Love your channel 😊
Thank you!
So glad to hear it helped. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your channel, I started to pivot my channel to motivational videos and adventure myself to put my face into them, I still don’t know how to grow my channel or monetize it because I just upload shots.
Is a fun journey!
Congrats Young Man. ✌👍
Sounds like a cool channel. Define your own consistency and do what works for you and your life. Thanks for sharing too. Hey from the US.
@@KevinKolbe thank you
So very encouraging. Just started my UA-cam channel and trying to make one per week. Caught up in the technical stuff, but am persistent.
Congrats for starting. Don't sweat the tech stuff. Do simple. Create when you can. Enjoy the journey!
Good on you Kevin mate. Great video as you move towards your UA-cam 100k Play Button.
Appreciate it.
Great video again, thanks Kevin. Gudday from Australia mate 👍
Appreciate that dude!
All great advice. I started faceless because I'm an introvert and was afraid of being on camera. But my niche wasn't conducive to faceless. The subject is too deep and personal. Just started with my face, learning along the way. You offer the type of advice I need. ❤
Appreciate that! Keep creating!
Did you find that it was showing your face that made your channel grow....?
@TheBanjoProject I believe so. I am providing the same information I did when I was faceless, and I've gained over 500 subs.
Thanks for the solid advice, Kevin. I'll be starting my UA-cam channel shortly at the young age of 77! I've been listening to some of the creators who are over 40 years old and now have the impetus to begin. Your channel has given me the nudge that I needed. John from the Tar Heel state of North Carolina.
That's so cool! Let's go!
Congrats 😊 hope to be there soon got 13 now but I'm just enjoying sharing my talent☺ just enjoy guys and keep going, God bless😚

I have a special needs son too. I’ve been procrastinating with just starting, but I want to build something that outlasts me. I want my children and grandchildren to be able to listen and learn from me long after I’m gone.
Stop thinking. Start creating. 😁
@@sowhappy "something that outlasts me" oh my goodness! I'm in tears now! I've been feeling called to start a UA-camchannel with my sewing, but I've been dragging my feet a LOT out of fear of the trolls. But this comment right here says it ALL! ❤️❤️❤️ I had never thought about using my channel as a legacy for my children, grandchildren, great grandkids, etc. I can teach the generations, I'll never meet, how to sew and tell them my story while I'm doing it! ❤️ You may have just convinced me!
@@TamarKnochel Yay! Let's go for it. I have a sewing machine gathering dust in my office ;) There's no downside or "failure" when we frame our channels as a knowledge inheritance...it becomes a learning time capsule for our family line! When my mother died, she left nothing behind but old polaroids...sometimes I forget what she sounded like. Sewing, like gardening, is such a great skill. I'm starting a channel that teaches design.
Again, excellent advice as always. Inspirational! Very many thanks Kevin. Scotland calling!!!

Just turned 74 and thinking about getting into UA-cam. I like that you have a history of doing creative videos and that helps me to I trust what you say. How nice! Thanks for watching.
I’m 45 and just started my channel last week. I’ve made 7 videos, 4 of which were shorts. Shorts have gotten me more views. I’m just in it for fun to see if I can do it, but I also enjoy reviewing gear and have a nice studio now. We’ll see if I grow.
Its fun talking to myself ❤❤🎉
