I’m 62. I’m a singer-songwriter. I’ve had a channel for years but I’ve mostly used my channel to showcase shelter dogs.via want to start sharing more music but i’m completely unknown and only have 100 subscribers and I don’t even know if those subscribers are even legit. There are so many singer-songwriters out there I feel like I will just be a drop on the ocean. I don’t really have any knowledge about anything that I can share. Just my music and my rescue dogs. Sounds like to me you DO have knowledge and passion and skills for music and shelter dogs. Can you do both on the same channel? Might be a stretch but depends on how you showcase it. Don't sell yourself short. Take a shot and put it out there. Oh by the way, I'm a hybrid introvert/extrovert...if there is such a thing. 😃
You should definitely do it! ❤ I’m 50 years old, and in the very early stages of creating a singer/songwriter community. I really want to build a welcoming community! 🥰 ☠️ 🏴☠️
Ordered my simple camera for vlogging today. I’m 54 and every now and then starting a YT channel popped up in my mind. So many things I like to do, riding my motorcycle, traveling with my camper going abroad, my dogs always by my side, so many interesting things to talk about. Still thinking about how to ‘shape’ my channel, taking my time. But…. I’m definately going to do this ☀️

I am greatly encouraged. I just started an educational channel at 64. I have multiple identities as a music artist, music professor (on my way out) and motivational speaker. I have therefore created three channels, two of them just a few days ago. Thanks for sharing this
Kevin, you have me convinced to share my 40 yr. Illustration career know-how, as well as my watercolor painting knowledge on UA-cam! I believe God has put upon my heart to give back and teach, and this is the opportunity I've been looking for. Blessings for your selfless sharing and encouragement!
I am being very very called to start a UA-cam channel and I have been for years. Great FEAR is holding me back though! Fear of being seen, saying the wrong thing, failing, looking silly, getting attacked, and THE TECH STUFF. I get SO frustrated with tech and then my creativity is gone. I have tried a few times but tech doesn't seem to be my friend. I know in my gut, this will change my life in so many ways. I wish I had more support.
There's a whole community here that supports others. And there's someone out there that needs you however you happen to create. Mistakes will always happen. Don't let any of that define you. Just create.
I’m 56! I have as much equipment as I need to get going. But (and here’s the but) I’m struggling to get going. Will it be good enough? Will I be good enough? do I actually do anything interesting? Yes I do, I moved 100 miles away from my family to start a new life by the sea. See, I do have enough content to get going. The tech side frightens me tho. Editing is not my friend.

Hi Kevin 👋🏻 I'm Lia from Australia 🇦🇺 and I wanted to say this was refreshing to watch and listen to. As a 52-year-old Retired Veteran, it's humbling to find a fellow mature UA-camr to learn from as I begin my creative journey and tell my story of Lia 3.0 (third times a charm they say). I look forward to watching more of your videos and learning from someone I resonate with. And agree, there's a gap when it comes to mature Vloggers + UA-camrs so here's to shortening that gap. 👩🏻🦱
3 things i noticed on my other channel. 1. Make clickable thumbnails 2. Make a good, descriptive title (shortish so it can all be displayed) 3. Don't do it for validation by chasing subs, do it because you have a genuine interest in what you're sharing.
Thank you so much. This is timely and encouraging. I am 73 years old and wanted to do this for years but fear stopped me. Now at this beautiful age I care about me and the message planted in me. Thanks again❤
59 and I've had my channel just over 3 years. I thought about it for 2 years before I actually got up the nerve to do it. I love the creativity of it, the community, and learning all the things. If I were just doing it for the money, I'd have quit long ago. I'm now at a place where I can give more consistent attention to my channel and I'm working hard to get my last 400 watch time hours so I can get monetized. I am already making a little with affiliate links.
Hi Kevin, I’m 56. I’ve been planning to do Utube for a few years. Written scripts. Researched topics. My voice and my face holds me back. I’m not totally hideous just self conscious and not photogenic. Also not totally sure my niche is profitable. I’m a massage therapist and want to teach new MTs the ropes for being mindful and developing specialized modalities that put them way above the churn and burn franchise style clinics. 😅🤷♀️
Great video, my hat's off to you! I started two channels a few years back now and couldn't agree more with your sentiments. People will tune in to your content because of what makes you unique. Content will always win over video quality, lighting, fancy gear, etc. If you are speaking from the heart or sharing art that is genuine, people with resonate with it. Greetings from Hungary!
Hi Kevin. What a lovely channel. I love your laidback style and personality, also that your'e a Jesus freak and oh yes, thanks for the info about starting my own channel. I am a 52 year young singer/songwriter/musician who has a UA-cam channel for my music (literally starting out now), but I also want to start one to encourage and inspire people my age to get out there and live again. Kevin, I'm a 39-year-old advertiser, on the verge of turning 40. Throughout my career, I’ve been on a constant creative journey, always looking for ways to tell stories that connect with people and offer a fresh, challenging perspective. Over the years, I’ve worked in massive agencies and led creative marketing strategies within big corporations. Today, my role as a creative director is as varied as it is challenging, and that relentless pursuit of new challenges, consulting, and pure creativity is what drives me every day. Watching your video came at a critical moment in my life, and, as they say, it caught me by surprise. As you put it, it's not just about "inspiring," but sometimes it’s essential to find that unique vision and perspective that only someone with a professional journey like yours can offer. Thank you for that, and you’ve got a new subscriber here. Greetings from Chile, in the far-off south of the world!
Feeling disheartened. I am leaving this comment here so that after some hours, days, weeks, months or years when someone likes or comment on it, I will be reminded that I didn’t give up
Also remember that chances are that the biggest fan of the content that you share will most likely not be anyone you know. Family may want to support but those that have a personal interest in the content develop a relationship with the content. Just keep sharing.
Thanks Kevin , I’m 55 , 12 years of retirement . No kids , not married , self employed massage therapist for 31 years but decided to take chance and test early retirement even though I don’t have thousands of pounds. So Thailand here I come for 6 months and thought why not start a you tube channel to see if a new life , a better life can be achieved by filming it on you tube so people at my age thinking about it can also make that move . It may or may not be the right move but to document my time will tell the story to others . Thanks for your inspiring video to go for it
@@memyselfinasia I agree! Very cool, quite an original perspective. I loved Thailand and spent time there when I was young. Learning about how it could work for me now - many decades later - would definitely pique my interest.
Hi Kevin, thank you so much for your UA-cam videos. My name is Jason Jackson and I just turned 50 and thinking about starting a UA-cam channel and watching your content inspires me to start, thank you so much for being who you are and for that I thank you 🙏🏼
My guy! I turn 31 next week and I still get the feeling of “am I too late to start?” It is NEVER too late! Awesome travels coming up this month to give myself a lot of footage to start with. Let’s do it!
You have already pension you should enjoy of your life and travel, not working anymore. For where need anymore collect more money if you have already enough passive incoming money in every month (pension).
I was in my 40s and started making game tutorials explaining things that nobody else seemed to understand…I thought 12 people from Reddit might watch, but a shocking number of people got really into them! 😮 So yeah, I gotta agree. People over 40 have done things. They have valuable experience and knowledge. If you can make something unique or present it uniquely, usefully, or in an entertaining manner, you can succeed with video. Just don’t rely exclusively on UA-cam ad revenue because it’s flaky. Merchandising, memberships (whether YT, Patreon, Locals, Twitch, Substack, etc.) and donations are great ways to diversify income streams without ever taking on paid sponsorships.
I recently started my channel. Thank you for the encouragement to keep going. I get frustrated with editing. Mainly because I need to master my editing program. However, at 69 years old, I hate spending time learning that when I have videos I want to make. But I will prevail.
If you could do a series of super-duper beginners “how to start” like, what software to buy, how to hook up equipment to each other, how to stay safe online and not over-expose yourself to scam artists. I’m concerned about safety when my face is all over the internet. Eg: good tip to not give out the gmail account associated with UA-cam. Idk that!
Hey Kevin, I started my channel in March 2024 at age 69. I love it. It's a legacy for my children. I don't have a niche; I post when I want to, I'm no beauty, but I get in front of the camera for every video, and my lighting is not good. I use my laptop to make my videos. I'm not pressured to be what someone wants me to be; I'm just me. You folks out there who want a UA-cam channel...jump in; the waters are just fine!
Kevin this is the first time I've watched one of your videos and I just want to say, thank you. You said you're not trying to inspire anyone. Well, you have. I'm 41 years old, with a background in journalism and writing. I'll spare you the gory details but basically, as I write this it's December 22nd and I just found out two days ago that I'm being made redundant in three months time. I teach English. And, I've been mulling over moving into blogging/UA-cam for a while. This video clinched it for me. I'm going to go freelance. Sure it's a risk, but I think it's worth taking. Thank you again.
Great video. I'm definitely one of those people who keep saying "I want to start a channel" but never do. I keep making excuses like 'my house isn't nice enough', or 'I don't have enough money'. And I know these are just my own personal insecurities and not actual hindrances. The only thing that's really stopping me is ME.
Love this Kevin. In my 40s. Had my channel for a few years, coming back after 6 months off. Burn out is real, so doing what you want to do is the key rather than chasing the metrics.
What’s holding me back is every time I click on an “anyone can do UA-cam” video, I see someone who is obviously gifted and experienced with editing, producing, etc. lol! You have a great presence and such an amazing voice. I’m afraid I would sound like the one person they always interview after the tornado takes the above ground swimming pool!😂 Thanks for the encouragement! ❤
Or maybe you wouldn't. Its way to easy to compare ourselves to others, especially if its something we want to do. Everyone starts someone. You were created with a purpose. If you want to do video on UA-cam, just do it.
1. EVERYONE hates hearing their own voice on a recording at first! That's because we've been listening to ourselves with the ears that are, well, attached to our heads! - Our voice comes from the inside. - Everyone else's voice comes to our ears from the "outside". That's why our own voice seems flat, strange, foreign and often higher then we're used to when we hear a recording of it. --> You'll get used to hearing yourself in your videos and soon become comfortable with it. 2. Resist comparing yourself to others. You are unique. 😊 Everyone is. Their circumstances and starting point are different. You start from yours and - just be you! OK. Now go and shoot your first video.
Kevin, you just made a new friend! I’ve been a Cinematographer now for 20+ years. I can appreciate your background and perspective. I just made the switch over to creating my own media for UA-cam. I’m 54, and super stoked about the opportunities that exist like never before! You did a nice job here bringing awareness to that.
60+ here. I enjoy making content. I don’t ask for likes or subscribers. I just do it as a hobby and a nice historical record for my kids and grandkids. It other folks like my videos; that’s great too
Thanks for this. 51 Years old here and I was also a "Creative Services Director" but in radio... and was decades ago now. Always think about doing something here on YT... not even for the money but just for a challenge. Someday maybe an idea and inspiration will overcome the apprehension.
Thanks Kevin. I’ve been on UA-cam for a while with some popular videos. I (finally) am back on weekly uploads and really enjoying it. Thanks so much for your thoughts and insights.
Great video! I started my UA-cam channel at age 60. I wanted to prove that an old dog could learn a new trick. In under two years, I have 12k subscribers and wonderful community of supporters. It’s been gratifying and at times quite humbling.
After being an obsessive photographer for 20 years I've recently become interested in video and have just created a new channel for the various outdoors things I do, it feels like starting a whole new adventure!
Just found this for the first time. Positive & pragmatic stuff. Encouraging me to get started at 74. As a former creative pro with decades of rich world wide experiences & amazing stories I've become so discouraged by my age & poverty that I've basically given up on ever sharing my voice or caring. Your downhome attitude has make me rethink what's possible. Thanks! Subscribed!

I'm 66 and still work at my Day Job, so I can't upload as often as I want to, but I've had opportunities to appear on TV as a result of having the channel, as well as lots of interesting collabs and sponsorships. I started my channel after my wife died, we'd been married 37 years. I've made some amazing contacts as a direct result of having the channel. Only 52k subs so far but watching you reminds me to Just Get It Done, working on my next vid today!
Left my fulltime job in 2019 as a national broadcaster / radio DJ in Singapore. It has been 5 amazing years being a fulltime UA-camr. No regrets really.
i was holding back thinking it had to be perfect. thousands of pages of notes and research. this video encouraged me to embrace imperfection and gradual improvement and explore as i go. 😊 thanks again. i needed to hear this encouragement. ❤
Of ALLLLLLL the videos that I've watched recently hyping me up and telling me I can (and should) share as a creator, this one for some reason has the greatest emotional impact on me. Why? I could analyze this all day, and in short I'm not completely sure. You mentioning how ad sense works, the fact that YT can put ads on your videos regardless of if you have followers or not, and talking about organic search results leading to your video were "ah ha" moments for me. Who knows? Maybe I ACTUALLY finally begin my (consistent) journey of content creation. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for this vid! I am a 50 year old Hammond Organ Player wanting to do UA-cam for a long time. I have made quite a few vids but I’m always struggling with perfectionism which is why I don’t put out content consistently. I have about 7k subs now so I should just continue and go for it.

But…. I’m definately going to do this ☀️
Perfect timing! I’m 48 years old, and I just released my first UA-cam Video today. It’s only 2 minutes long, but it’s something to build of off. Thank you for making this video! It was great, and what I needed to hear.
Same. 47, my video is nine minutes.🎉😂❤
Nice!
I'm 67 now. I started my UA-cam channel in 2020 I just now got 118 subscribers. I didn't think I would get this far but now it seems to be growing fast. I appreciate your experience and input. It helps. We are never too old to learn. Thanks
Thank you for your advice.I'm 47 years old japanese man.
I'm into practice piano now.
Cool. Thanks for sharing and watching.
So cool! Go for it!
Yeah me too, all that stuff. I'll subscribe to your channel. I hope I can be brave enough at 57. God bless you.
My prediction - that "good enough" voice will stay there until you say "shut up!" and just create. Be good enough for you!
I hear you guys, in the same boat! I just turned 60 and unemployed at the moment🥴
Just turned 52 and finally started UA-cam last month to document our family’s Stroke Recovery Journey. Thank you for the tactical tips and encouragement for this generation.
What a great reason to start!
I'm 64 and I've been thinking about it for a while, it's a bit scary to put myself out there and share with others, but there's no better time to monetize on your passion.
It is never too late.
I am 68 and do UA-cam videos every day! Love it!
Dude...was just thinking of you! Appreciate you!

Thank you for the confidence for me to try again!
Appreciate that. Totally agree with sharing our wisdom too. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video. I'm almost 42 and I paint miniatures as a hobby. Been thinking of making a channel of my painting. This has pumped me up to try.
Kenneth LaDuke here…I am 74 y.o. And just starting a youtube channel….you said you wanted to hear from us, so…I am a retired UMC clergy who feels I have something to say to help people think thru some things. I have listened to hours of your UA-cam posts and they have helped!!!!! Thanks. I am not a Mac user, but otherwise I appreciate your posts. My channel is: Love Live Lead. Thank you. I love your casual approach.

Wow! This hits home. I’m 56 and my job was just eliminated and here I am starting my own channel. Thanks for sharing. This is super helpful.
Sorry to hear about your job but glad this is helpful.
Go for it! There is a lot of information available on UA-cam that can help you get started.
Hey from the US! Thanks so much for sharing and your service too! Can't wait to see you on UA-cam!
Kevin - Loved this video. I’m 71, have bought gear, am afraid to start. If I do, you are a big reason why. THANK YOU BROTHER!!!❤😊
Thank YOU! That really means a lot. Thinking of doing a short course to help creators just get going. Would you see value in that?
3 things i noticed on my other channel. 1. Make clickable thumbnails
2. Make a good, descriptive title (shortish so it can all be displayed)
3. Don't do it for validation by chasing subs, do it because you have a genuine interest in what you're sharing.
Hi. I am 7 and started a gardening channel. Keep making videos! 🎉
@@AndrewsVeggiePatch Well done you👍
Hi Kevin I’m 57 and just got laid off from my job at a Hollywood studio. I’m subscribing to follow your journey.
Sorry to hear about the job.
Good for you! Glad you shook off the nerves and jumped in! Thanks for sharing. Thank you for watching too!
@@TinaHBeautifulJourney I have sat on it for years also, but I knew the time would come and it would resonate and I just started back up🤍
Hi Kevin,
We will always be our worst critics. Give yourself grace and just start.
Well said! Totally agree! Hey from the US!

After watching this video I have moved a few steps closer towards actually doing it. By the way, an 80 year old gentleman referred your channel to me, so here's his link below
Super cool! Thanks for sharing that and watching too!
Kevin,
I'm a 39-year-old advertiser, on the verge of turning 40.
Appreciate that, especially coming from someone who's worked in the Creative Industry like I have. Thanks for watching and hey from the US.
The great thing about the online universe, whether it's video, writing books or starting a business, is that you're never too old to do what you love.
Say it again for anyone in the back! True words too. Appreciate you dude.
I appreciate your content, Kevin. I’m 47 - a few weeks ago, I decided to take up guitar and share my journey as a beginner guitarist on UA-cam.

fantastic.
I was in my 40s and started making game tutorials explaining things that nobody else seemed to understand…I thought 12 people from Reddit might watch, but a shocking number of people got really into them! 😮
So yeah, I gotta agree.
That's great to hear! Let's go!
Idk that!
Those are really great ideas! Making a list. Thank you!
I got help from Collin Michael gave me a good starting point being all I have is my phone rn....bout as broke as can be 😅
Very encouraging. I’m 62 and just getting into it.
Nice! You got this!
Very cool! Great advice too!
Go for it! I was laid off in January, and I'm happier than ever. Money is tight, but I have joy and freedom!
You can do it!
Love this Kevin. In my 40s. Had my channel for a few years, coming back after 6 months off. Burn out is real, so doing what you want to do is the key rather than chasing the metrics.
Agree!
If you want to do video on UA-cam, just do it.
ai has come a long way with voices. Most people would never know it is ai and it gets better every day.
Welcome! Glad it helped.
@KevinKolbe I really like that you deliver content that can help us along the way and not the get rich quick on UA-cam now videos
Go for it!
There's a guy on UA-cam that does cooking videos. The camera shot is from directly above, and it only has music, no talking. It is so relaxing.
Thanks for this vid! I am a 50 year old Hammond Organ Player wanting to do UA-cam for a long time. I have made quite a few vids but I’m always struggling with perfectionism which is why I don’t put out content consistently. I have about 7k subs now so I should just continue and go for it.
