  • I've never played Final Fantasy 1 before, this is the first time I have ever played it. I did my playthrough on the Pixel Remaster for PS4 on my PS5 and got all the trophies /achievements including the platinum trophy.
I've played a lot of the other FF games from 7 to 15 but never 1-6. But that is going to change. I will be going for every platinum trophy for every FF game.
Is It Worth Playing FINAL FANTASY in 2023? What do you think?

I hate to be “that guy” but the Cid reference in this game was retroactively put there. There wasn’t any mention of him the the original version of the game. It is nice that they did add him but it wouldn’t be right to say he was introduced here.

Nice video. I actually really like Final Fantasy 1 compared to other entries in the series even though its comparably more basic. It's up to people whether or not they want to play it, but I'd say it's not a bad idea to jump into the game with the Pixel Remaster because you can choose to turn off random encounters if you want.

I'mma be real, I decided to give FF remasters a go a week ago, I just beat FF1 (honestly started using the walkthrough by the time I got the Levistone because the random wandering around and one-shotting everything via auto-battle anyways was becoming tedious) and for a +35 y/o game, yeah it's not bad, but as far playing it nowadays goes it's extremely basic and story is practically non-existing. I hate the idea of even the boss fights being a cakewalk outside of maybe the last few, but even then you just hasten and strenghten your auto-attackers as BLM and spam heal/protection as WHM and it's practically impossible to lose. Ironically I'm currently playing through FF2 and while I heard people hate that one for it's gameplay systems, I'm about 5 hours in and think it's FAAAAAAAAR better so far. So much more interactive and fleshed out in every way, there's an actually story this time around too, it's not bad.

  • @johns783

while i admit the qol differences are great in this they actually detract from the difficulty in a major way, it's hard not to just turn off random encounters while you explore, because the rate is just frustrating at times, but doing so also means that getting through dungeons is just easy. you fight as much as you need to beat the boss, then move on. you also collect all the best items in the dungeon easily without the trial and error and risk of the battles. same applies to the ability to quicksave anywhere. it was nice to replay but it didn't feel like any sort of accomplishment to get through whereas the original punished the hell out of you for going in unprepared.

On the flipside - you can make the game way more challenging for yourself by minimizing the number of battles you participate in. It also makes learning the game a LOT less frustrating.
I don't know FF1 half as well as I do the other games, and it's incredibly replayable - having just learned the ins and outs of it on my first playthrough of the Pixel Remaster, I started a new save with a different party composition immediately. This go around I'm not toggling anything. Next time I'm thinking I'll do x0.5 EXP the whole way through the game.
If I were to change anything - I'd like a mode with the original game balance and level cap intact as well as the original save system. Alternatively - give me a mode where the booster toggles can't be adjusted once you start the game. There's a lot of creative challenge runs you can do with the options this version gives you. That makes this my definitive way to play, finally replacing the Origins version for me.

I got the NES game on launch day at a toys r us. It was my first JRPG, before then it was Ultima and so forth. This is my favorite FF game of all time, but not the Pixel Remaster; that’s not FF1. Pixel Remaster is a nerfed FF1. The standard settings still gave you twice the XP and the goods at stores cost half as much. In NES FF1 the only healing item you had was a potion that healed for 30hp and you could carry 99. It was a way more difficult game, you had to grind, and trash mobs could kill you. There was no Cid in FF1; he was added retroactively. It was a great game. Strategy was very important because if you killed a target before others could attack it, they wouldn’t retarget; they lost a turn. I encourage you to play real FF1 if you want the true FF1 experience. It was a challenge for the uninitiated.
Also not sure why you are trash talking Stranger; that game was the first action based JRPG game I played that had good combat. Stranger also had the ultimate toxic masculinity action hero for someone who grew up in the 80s watching Schwarzenegger and Stallone to truly appreciate. I love Jack Garland; he’s a treasure and my favorite FF character now.

Can you talk about ff6 trophies?

  • @bahamutskingdom
    @bahamutskingdom 2 місяці тому

There was a reason for these older games being far more difficult in the older days of the NES/SNES.....
Cost of the games. Final Fantasy on the NES was $75.00 on the NES new for me. VI was $79.00 on the SNES new. (So please no more complaining about paying that much for all 6 of them)
What this meant was not a whole of ability to buy games all the time for parents. You either got the new game for Christmas or your birthday. These games needed to last.
SIDE NOTE: Pixel Remaster IS back to the base game. But is still done in the PS1 FWD "Easy Mode" release. This game was 10x more difficult on the NES. 10x more expensive to get things. Hardly any of the items in this game are in the original. And 10x more level grinding.
Seriously in XIII I could stand at a save point, and see the save point ahead and behind me. WAY TOO EASY.
I do love these. I finished I, half way through VI, and in the middle of V. Pixel Remaster are indeed the closest to the originals I have seen.....without putting my originals in.

Why was FFX 13 on Xbox 360 then?

  • @NickDyers

FF1 and other classic FF entries are already obsolete.
8hrs of realistic cinematic interactive movies with 2hrs of actual gameplay IS the new STANDARD for videogames QUALITY.
story should be spoonfed to players by watching INTERACTIVE MOVIES, not by reading cryptic messages across the game playthrough.

Only if you play the PS1 version, and play on the original difficulty (Hard). Otherwise, there's nothing that makes this game interesting in my opinion. In that case, you're better off playing newer entries that focus more on the story.
Honestly, the way you're playing it's just grinding achievements, which looks super boring, instead of a tense game of resource management and survival. You do you, but I would never dare recommend this way to others.

Well I'll admit grinding trophies is boring, grinding levels and progressing in the game is not boring, I've always been a gameplay over story gamer, especially in RPGs, min maxing, battle systems, leveling, equipment and skills, abilities and magic have always been what drives me forward in RPGs, yes story and characters are important but not more important than gameplay, at the end of the day we are talking about games, so of course gameplay is going to be a Main focus for gamers, what do ya know, gamers care about gameplay in video games, who would of thunk?

@@mathewhosier9739 Nothing wrong with that! Like I said, the only thing that makes FF1 fun is the gameplay. And that only works if you play one of the older versions, because the gameplay doesn't make you think in newer versions. Personally, I don't think any Final Fantasy ever forces you to grind, not even the first ones.
The fun in FF1 is choosing which piece of equipment to buy, which spells to take for your next dungeon, decide whether or not you can finish the dungeon in one go, or if you need to exit to stock up on items. All that is great stuff. I never said gameplay isn't important. It's just that FF1 Pixel Remaster neither has good story OR gameplay. It sucks out all the good gameplay, and it never had an engaging story.
If you prefer story, go with the later games. If you prefer engaging gameplay, go with either the later games (they have great gameplay too) OR the older versions of FF1. The new versions are just lifeless tutorials.

If anything the older games focused more on story because they were extremely limited by what they could do with the gameplay, but as time went on and hardware got better they have focused more and more on gameplay, seems to me that the older games focused more on story, characters and world building while the newer games focus more on combat, progression and exploration, there's a reason why developers, coders and artists get paid more than writers in most cases, again, not saying isn't important but it's clearly not as much of a focus as it used to be when story was all they had due to limitations, I'm just saying story and writing overall is much less of a focus than it used to be, and there are outliers, especially in the indie world, but for the most part gameplay is the main focus as it should be seeing these are video games

@@mathewhosier9739 Huh? Since FF4, the games began to have more cutscenes, more scripted battles, more plot points, more twists, more characters, and more character development. How is that less story than "Warriors of Light, restore the Crystals to Grace!"?
Also, personally, I think being so static in what games "should be" only limits their potential. Games like Outer Wilds do so much more than just being "video games with gameplay" and they're better for it.

The games got progressively more story heavy after 4 and 10 had infamously long cutscene's. 16 is probably the most cutscene heavy mainline game.
