Every home game and many away games, he stays around 1.5 - 2 hours after the game to sign EVERY AUTOGRAPH. People who speak so negatively of him would BEG for a player and young man like him.
Nobody roots for Goliath. It’s sad they can’t just enjoy Zach for what he is, one of the all time college greats.

His mentality is his strongest aspect. No doubt. WIll he thrive in the NBA?! That's still unknown. That's a different game than college.

But to my point, no one knows what Zach is capable of besides Zach and his current coaches. He's only played basketball for 7 years, not 15 or 20 years like most kids have when they enter the draft... and look at how far he's progressed already.

I think for edey to be successful in the nba is if he proves that he can atleast move his feet in the perimeter when being switched out there. Hes mobility on defense is the key for him in the nba.
There are two discussion that intertwine and confuse the issue. Is he a dominant college player who will succeed at college level? Absolutely and 100% yes. Will that dominance, will his type of basketball translate into today's NBA game? That is debatable. You can compare Edey with Boban Marjanovic. Same height, similar skill set. Marjanovic was an amazing finisher around the rim shooting an insane percentage. His lack of footspeed and agility made him a liability on defense and limited his usefulness to teams. That could well be the fate of Edey.
Kareem Abdul Jabar was tall also.
Just think only 15 years ago he would be a top 3 pick I'm hoping raptors take him at 16 with kelly as a mentor he could be a starter for 12 years if not at least a solid bench player

I've watched Purdue play 4 games last 2 years. I been watching NBA for 25 years. Edey will never see meaningful minutes in the NBA. He might bounce around but never play real minutes.
He will certainly get some minutes somewhere, have you thought that maybe the reason he doesn’t step more than 5 feet away from the basket is because he doesn’t need to? He can shoot the ball from distance he has a great shot. But why would he in a game at the college level where all he has to do is stay under the basket to dominate. His mobility and endurance for being 7’4” 300lbs is fcking insane. It’ll be an adjustment for him but he’ll get minutes.

He can't play the game when there's 9 other better player on the court then you and your height can't make up the difference. 1. Paint defense in the NBA is not comparable to college, might as well be a different sport.
2. A college 3 and NBA 3 are different, he hasn't proven his shooting at a professional level.

What does any of this have to do with what Zach Edey is currently doing in the college game. His NBA future has nothing to do with the fact that he is one of the all time great college basketball players. It's ridiculous to hate or come down on Zach Edey because you feel that he won't make it in the NBA. If you dislike him because he has no future in the NBA then I'm pretty sure you should probably dislike almost every player on whatever team it is that you cheer for.

That’s a false argument. When the opposing coaches KNOW they can’t match him straight up they will throw goon after goon on him. It’s their plan to foul him and foul him often because they know refs won’t call every one of them, and by the way, they don’t.

Yes, there are missed calls often in the game off basketball but if there is a missed call on Zach Edey fans are going completely ape shit every single time in every single game. It's sad and tired. For every foul Zach Edey makes that didn't get called there is 10 fouls that didn't get called when Zach Edey was fouled.
@@benj3911 have you ever watched a full Purdue game? If a guy makes it past him for a layup he lets it go usually because he knows how it will be perceived if he swats at it. He purposely doesn’t foul so he can stay in the game. I’m sure there’s a missed call here and there, but anytime he’s gotten rough it’s because the whole game had gotten rough a long time ago. In fact, that’s part of the opposing strategy (hasn’t really worked) to see if they can goad Zach into getting a bit emotional and upset.

Zach Edey is perfect for the college game, but he is not an nba player. His game doesn’t translate. He can’t shoot and can’t guard the pick and roll.
You obviously didn't see his pro day video. His game is more refined than we get to see in Purdue games. I wouldn't count him out for an NBA career before he gets a shot.

@rayrey90 He is playing how the team is built and where he is needed. When you watch Jokic play, most of his production is feet from the rim. He can make other shots, but they are less common. Watching Edey's footwork, he has come a long way in 6 years of playing basketball. His times at Pro Day were reported to be neck and neck with KD's before entering the NBA. I think people are too quick to judge and don't know what they are talking about most of the time.

People don't realize how hard it is to make it to the NBA. There are guys in the G league that are a lot better than Edey. No knock on him, it's a really hard club to make.
Edey averaging 20 pts doesn't put him on the list of greatest all time. People have such recent biases.

Player of the year is graded on a scale. There were a bunch of guys that won it that were more dominant. Did you even look up previous winners stats? Do some research and get back to me. He's good, but not all time great.
He's had several 30 pt 20 rb games. Only a handful of players can say that and all of them were all time greats. Sampson David Robinson bill walton Kareem Lionel Simmons etc

You want to say he's one of the greatest centers of all time or are we saying big men which includes power forwards? Women's sports and mens sports are two completely different things. One is sports, the other is a novelty act. There are a hundred other guys who would take that position who have forgotten more about basketball because they have played MENS basketball, that would take that position in a minute, and it would not be ridiculous to have to listen to them.
He's really good. Partly due to focus of the ENTIRE basketball work switched to perimeter game though and young players don't know how to play or defend post play. He shows up being tall and a fairly good post player and these untrained players just don't know how to handle him. Hopefully he can carve out a Boban Marjanovic role in the nba and make himself some nice money for a while.
Lol, but he is just tall. The reason he gets the assists he does is because he's tall and demands double teams. He gets easy buckets on give backs, and he's good about tricking his defender on what his post angle is actually going to be in the play. He plays in a style that doesn't work if you're playing with parity. NBA Zach Edey has to much work harder than Purdue Edey

Jamarion Sharp is 7'6" but doesn't average double figures in any stat. In fact, he's under 5 in everything. Same goes for Connor Vanover, who is 7'5". If height is all it takes, then why aren't those guys putting up better numbers?

The game has changed, he's not a rim runner, he can't shoot the three, he can't facilitate, and he averages over 11 FTA PER GAME. He will not get those calls in the NBA. Edey will maybe get drafted late second round, average 6 pts 5 rbs 1 block per game for a year or two then bounce around the G League.
