I cant not tell you how grateful I am for these videos. I have been in pain for almost 5 years..I am bone on bone in my right hip. This has been the most help!!!
Put off getting a hip replacement for as long as possible! I just had my right hip replaced. There’s no words nor anything else to prepare one for the excruciating pain that is arthroplasty. Solid 10 level for the first month. At month three I still cannot lie on that side. It’s tender to the touch. I have no pain moving around. I’m back at the gym doing long workouts that includes swimming. Good luck peeps!
Great series of videos, but I have a question. I had one hip completely replaced 10 years ago in Thailand, and my new ceramic hip has given me no problems. However, now my other hip is giving me trouble. Any suggestions gracefully appreciated!
Same here and I absolutely refuse to have a hip replacement!! Research med beds. Drs are now being trained in Texas on how to use them! Exciting times ahead!
I am 67 and live in NZ. I have had one hip replaced (didn't know any of this stuff back then). My other hip has been problematic for a few years now (severe ware - bone on bone). I have gone on several regimes, but it is worsening. I have recently begun to eat an anti inflammatory diet and take the obvious supplements. I also read that intermittent fasting helps with the healing too. I discovered your channel last week. Your videos are amazingly helpful. As you said, not once have I heard anyone talk about glute strengthening, It makes so much sense. I have been doing some of these exercises and in this short time, I can already feel a difference. I also started your 'walking right' method today - It feels so much better. I have signed up for your course starting on the 14th . I can't wait to really get into it. I am confident these exercises along with the diet and supplements will help me heal and I won't need another surgery.
You have helped me so much with sciatica. I used to hurt everyday so bad I couldn’t walk without cane. After doing your exercises for the glutes I am 98% better and rarely have sciatica pain. Thank you so much. Now I’m on to these hip exercises!1
I have arthritis in my hip as diagnosed by my MD and also displaced disks in my lower vertebrae. Your exercises have helped immensely and you are appreciated
I love love love your videos. I have had chronic "hip pocket" pain for several years which makes it often painful to sit in a chair for long. I know i have lordosis and was tilting my pelvis but it never occured to me that my glutes were weak. Suddenly this week, acute medial knee pain and i couldnt bear weight for a few days. Aha! Also glut weakness according to your vids. I am faithfully doing all your exercises. Your approach is proactive and prevention oriented. Thank you so much! I will be checking out your knee course. ❤️
Hey Miriam! We're glad we could make you aware of your glute weakness!!! It really is a root of so many hip, knee and lower back problems. Please update us and let us know how you are doing!
Hi Dr. David. I have been doing many of your recommended hip rehab exercises to deal with a brutal hip ache while in bed sleeping. The exercises worked for about 6 weeks, but now, I'm waking up in the middle of the night with a deep hip ache on the side that I lay on. Neither hip hurts while doing normal activities, including working out, training legs, etc. Any suggestions? Thank you.
These seem like they will help me. I think I have a combination of sciatica and other stuff. Hip and Knee pain. Not debilitating but very, extremely uncomfortable. I am very active and have had to back off significantly. Your exercises are better more effective than what my PT prescribed. Got some relief immediatley. Thank you!
I have arthritis pain start from my hips and it goes down to my legs these starches are so good it ease my pains thank you so much for your help great video

I have pain in my one hip in the joint. Not stiff with the arthritis in the morning just the pain. Should I keep doing the exercises? I know you won’t get this for a while. But I would love to come down and be your patient maybe I’ll just make it happen. Grateful for all your video help with people. It’s wonderful that you’re so giving
Hey Val! That's great news that you don't have stiffness in the morning, but sorry to hear that you've still got pain in the hip. Yes, you absolutely should continue to strengthen your glutes. It will help you to get rid of the pain all the way. Keep going!!!!
Thank you so much Dr. David for sharing these remedies for Hip pain. I have been watching your many videos since morning....brilliantly explained and with heart. I will do these for my sore hip. God's spirit be with you. 👼
Have been doing knee stuff for about a week. I has worked amazingly. Still have a ways to go. I did similar movements in two knee therapies in the past few years. It seems their similar motions were too jarring like bending your knee and placing your foot about a foot to your rear to your side and pulling on a rubber band. IIt seemed to help, but now I can see that it was actually overstressing the knee and its various joints, etc.
Thank you very much! Very helpful! I noticed that because I drive a lot, that's why this right hip is not good. I'm always using this side to press on brakes and gas
I know my knee pain is better from strengthening my hips. These help me be aware of just how weak my left hip is than my, yes, weak right hip. 5hank you so very much for sharing these and giving me purpose and hope for better mobility. God bless you!!!
Ever since I first discovered your videos I've been doing what you suggest and getting positive results. Thank you so much! In this one with the Glute Buster, you say to kneel but the hip I have bursitis on is the left one. I've had total knee replacement on my right knee and can't kneel on it (it's painful on the scar tissue). Can I do this exercise while standing or is there another work-around?
Thank you for the encouraging advice. I am hoping to be able to defer hip replacement as the doctors have suggested, I do feel I have improved since I have been doing your exercises. Thank you so much👍❤️

Nice. Impressive. Hello from beautiful Norman, Oklahoma; home of the Sooners. I'm a 72 year old; a 10,000 step a day guy. 10,000 steps a day solves all hip problems.
Hey Tom, Greetings from Texas! Thank you so much for your kind words and your inspiration. You are staying active and keeping that mobility. We appreciate you!😃
I Had serious hip, lower back and knee pains for 2 years. Walking was excruciating, sore for several days. PT prescribed Pool exercices + some I can do on my bed. I’ve done those religiously, high intensity pool exercices for 2 hours every other day (much easier and fun in a pool than elsewhere !) and daily the exercices at home for 1,5 hours. I made all prescribed exercices more intensive and much longer than prescribed (‘hold for 5 seconds became ‘hold for 20-30 seconds’ ; pull up knee became ‘rotate feet too’. I found out that doing those exercices after dinner results in waking up without pain. I keep going at it but in 5 weeks, I’m almost done with the pains. It’s not because the exercice is hard and painful that the result is better. Just get the right exercices for your circumstances and consider, in this exercice, that a slim person’s leg can weigh half of that of an overweight person. In a pool, everyone is the same…. Highly recommend individual pool gym if you have access to it.
Hey Servant of The Great I AM Loving kindness!! Your kind words mean everything to us! Thank you so much for your support! It means so much that these have helped you 🙌🏽✨
@@epmanualphysicaltherapy yes they have, I was super scared that I was going to need surgery and right about the time I was planning to return to work Now with these exercises the pain is almost completely gone and I’m walking a lot better and less stressed

@@epmanualphysicaltherapy It has been just over one week that I have been doing some of your exercises and I definitely experience the difference. It helps me in my general day to day movement and I do not experience that sudden sinking feeling that I used to get when I walked around. I cannot for instance do the figure 4 squeezes in a sitting position but manage to do do them in a lay down position. It is also getting easier to do the exercises every day. I must also tell you, I have an electronic acupuncture machine that works with pads instead of needles. I also used that specifically to strengthen my gluten muscles. So, your exercises plus the machine helps me a lot. Thanks for the great work you are doing. It is really appreciated.
Absolutely love your videos, both content and presentation - no nonsense straight to the point! Have been doing for a week and feel the difference:) questions: how do I avoid pinching pain on inside of hip when doing figure 4? What is the difference in muscle target between clam and reverse clam as you demo? Thank you!
Hello, thanks for your video. I will start these exercices this evening. I have been suffering from hip bursitis and tendonitis for over 3 years now. Hope this will finally help me get rid of the pain so I will be able to get good sleep again. I now wake up several times each night because of the pain while lying on my right side, and this for over 3 years... Thanks for your advice!

Thanks so much Dave for this valuable information!… I did these 6 stretches/ exercises. It took 20 minutes to get through them. And they are very, very effective!!!!!!!! These along with prayer and I should be up and running in no time!!! Thanks again.🙏🏽
I have been having back stiffnes and hip stiffnes for a long time then my spine started to hurt at one spot I figure it probably was caused by the muscle stiffness I tried this video and also the 3 back stretches you recommend for arthritis in the spine and I feel much better already thanks great videos.

Hello David Unfortunately I had a calf tear and my leg and foot are still swollen and feel uneasy while walking and standing. I would like to get your advise on what execises I should do to recuperate. Thank you for your past and future suggestions.

@@epmanualphysicaltherapy Thank you Sir! I am honored that a busy Doctor like you would take time to write me! I have been sending your videos to others and told another contractor today at Lowes how I am rapidly feeling less pain. My wife and I plan on 2 years from now climbing to Mt Everest Base Camp at 17,500 feet. So, I am taking your advice very seriously! I will be 65 when we go to Nepal, and we will start a program funding sweet old ladies to give orphan kids one on one attention. Worked hard labor starting at 13 working at a pig farm. So, this old body as seen a lot of hard labor. We finally have money to try to do some good in this world. Our motto Empty Hearts and Empty minds cause the world's problems! I have bursitis & sciatica in both hips. Are the Figure 4 Squeezes supposed to make me feel the burn in the hip joint? For me it feels painful. If I am supposed to feel the stretch, I will push through the pain. But if I am not supposed to feel it, should I skip this exercise? Normally, when sitting, I cannot cross my legs or sit Indian style because it causes hip pain. I am questioning whether to do this exercise or not because it makes me feel the same pain. Thank you for your videos. You're a tremendous help!!!
Thank you for helping the many, including me! Can you help with questions so I don't cause more hip damage? I am building bone density and have been jumping rope, using the mini-trampoline, doing squats and walking backwards (cause it's fun). Will this harm my osteo-arthritic hip?
I really appreciate you and find your videos to be helpful but unfortunately I'm having a hard time laying down on the floor to do the exercises and a even harder time to get back up. Can you please recommend a good therapy table to use for these exercises. Thank You!!
My left hip is or has been in a great deal of pain for the last year and I have noticed a huge difference between the size of my right calf giant and left smaller. Could it be that getting my left calf stronger is the key? Have you come across this? I am finding the calf hard to strengthen thanks for your videos very helpful. Any ideas about the calf thing?

Thank you so much Dr.David! I have hip pain for the last 2 years because I was misdiagnosed and sent to pain clinic for pain killers shots. 2 month ago I was diagnosed with chronic tendinitis by chiropractor and I am getting treatment. Do I have still chance with treatment and those exercises to heal my hip or is now to late? I am 68 years old.
Hey Lidia! Sorry to hear that you've had hip pain over the past 2 months :-( Have you seen our hip tendonitis videos? These may be able to help you even though you're 68. I don’t know if it’s a miracle but I’ve had hip pain for three years, I’m very active I work out with many leg exercises I’ve gone to physical therapy had an X-ray indicating arthritis. Nothing has helped until I did my first glute squeeze for 10 sets of 10 seconds and the pain is gone! This is surreal! I’ve given it some time before I commented it’s been three days and still no pain I don’t know what’s going on! Why does this help so much?
Hello Doc. Good afternoon. Very useful exercises but i want to tell you that I cannot lie on my back even for five minutes and pressing my hands against any part of mybody hurts my elbows and my right shoulder bone. Thank you and God bless

Hey John good question.😃 At El Paso Manual Physical Therapy we specialize in avoiding injections and surgery and do not have any specific videos geared toward hip replacement recovery at this time. We appreciate your suggestion and will certainly consider it in the future.🙌
Thank you Dr Middaugh for all your help. I have a general question. If you have hip arthritis (bone-on-bone) and bouts of tendonitis and bursitis on that hip......is it advisable to bicycle (stationary or otherwise)? I ask because I have yet to see that on any hip-related exercise. Does the motion of cycling/peddling aggravate an arthritic hip? For me, it seems to make the tendonitis (inner groin) worse. Thank you!!
Hey LisaDawnn! Using a bike will be helpful if you can get your glutes to work during the exercise. If you feel you are using your quads more than your glutes while using the bike, then you will likely make your hip pain worse :-(
Hi my name is Ingrid . At the moment I live on an island i in thr Caribbean called Curacao . I want to thank you for your very informative video's. Very helpful. I just want to know which supplements to you recommend for hip arthritis . Thank you best regards
@@googledude5704 Sam with me... I used to sleep on my right side until the hip pain started, so I changed to sleeping on the left ..... but now the right hip hurts even sleeping on the left... Hi Dr D , I have been doing your exercises for a little more than a week, but I was wondering if you have any exercises for a forward tilted pelvic. Your response will be greatly appreciated. I am in a lot if pain , cant bear weight without pain.
Hey Wendy! We're glad you can do these! Balance boards can help as long as you feel you're using your glutes more than your quads. It all depends on how you use the balance board. It may help your balance but make your knee worse.

I can’t thank you enough. I am going to add this to my routine & check back in
Well the hinny will look great.
Thanks.

Great videos, thank you for all your expertise trying to educate and help us
Thanks for a great video with excellent explanations on every exercise. I really appreciate your assistance in helping all of us with hip problems.
You're welcome Frank!!! We're happy that you're getting help from our videos!!!
Excellent! Thank you!
You're welcome Macr Larsson!!!
Absolutely love your videos, both content and presentation - no nonsense straight to the point! Have been doing for a week and feel the difference:) questions: how do I avoid pinching pain on inside of hip when doing figure 4? What is the difference in muscle target between clam and reverse clam as you demo?
Thank you!
Thank you. R. Byrd; Carmel, Indiana

If we pull this climb off I will high light you BIG TIME in the film, that we will make. Here is a list of our other films thus far. www.youtube.com/@jeffandjodifilms2896/videos THANKS AGAIN!!!
Thank You!!
Can you do the knee press crossed over the other knee be done floor based lying down with one leg bent and other crossing over and pressing ?
My left hip is or has been in a great deal of pain for the last year and I have noticed a huge difference between the size of my right calf giant and left smaller. Could it be that getting my left calf stronger is the key? Have you come across this? I am finding the calf hard to strengthen
thanks for your videos very helpful. Any ideas about the calf thing?
Awesome exercises!!!

Hey Lidia! Sorry to hear that you've had hip pain over the past 2 months :-(
Have you seen our hip tendonitis videos? These may be able to help you even though you're 68. You're okay to give this a chance and see how much you can improve.

Are these ok for hip bursitis pain?
Hey Kelly! These exercises should be good for hip bursitis. If an exercise hurts, then it may not be a good time to do that exercise. Hope this helps!
Great video Thank you

I have poir range if motion, so pointing my toes out at 45 degree angle is difficult. Will my range improve as I strengthen glutes?

Hi Dr. David.. Your videos are helpful. Keep up the good work.
Do these exercises work for Hip tendonitis , Piriformis syndrome related hip pain?
Hey Fouzia Begum! Thanks so much for the kind words, we'll pass this complement over to Dr. David! ❤️
Yes, these exercises should be helpful for hip tendonitis and piriformis syndrome pain.
Give them a try and let us know how it turned out for you!
thank you so much! the best exercises ever! i just want to ask how to do №4 if i cannot put the ankle on the knee?

I have an hip replacement do you have an video for this one.
My outer hip pain on my left side is making me toss and turn at night while trying to sleep, thank you for this video, I am going to give these a try!
Hey Jessica! Sorry to hear about your trouble sleeping with the left hip pain :-(
Please let us know how this goes for you!
Same here. I have very little discomfort during the day but my nights are really bothersome. There seems to be no position that would not bother me.
@@googledude5704 Sam with me... I used to sleep on my right side until the hip pain started, so I changed to sleeping on the left ..... but now the right hip hurts even sleeping on the left... My future includes hip replacement if I don't conquer the inflammation/soreness. I don't savor the idea if 20 years of ibuprofen....so here goes with the exercise !
Hi Dr D , I have been doing your exercises for a little more than a week, but I was wondering if you have any exercises for a forward tilted pelvic. Your response will be greatly appreciated. I am in a lot if pain , cant bear weight without pain.
I like this I can do most of these, what about a balance board for hip stability? Do you recommend the boards?
Hey Wendy! We're glad you can do these! Balance boards can help as long as you feel you're using your glutes more than your quads. It all depends on how you use the balance board. It may help your balance but make your knee worse.
@@epmanualphysicaltherapy The balance board does hurt my knees so I think I will stay off of it for now thank you so much!
Done it.
OUCH! These are great! 😄 It make such a difference in walking!
Could you do a video on getting rid of that loud hip popping sound when you're doing exercises?
Hey E H! It could be possible that you might be dealing with snapping hip. It is important, to know that the popping won't just instantly disappear after a series of exercises or after a few days/weeks. It is very likely that it will take longer than desired.
Anyhow, here are some additional video that could help with the popping you are currently experiencing. You can access them here:
