I agree, Randahl. I may just replay this video each day and especially before I visit my doctor. If I could only find a video that lowers my cholesterol.
Myles, I really appreciate that you produced an interesting film showing how a careful teardown of an engine can be done. Also, systematically evaluating the engines condition and what you are going to do to it. Too, I was pleased that you did your best to provide close ups of the parts with lots of lighting. You voice is clear and easy to listen is consistent and a pleasure. Feliz Navidad, and kind regards, Blaine Halley Santa Cruz, CA.
Great video- and really nice to see a motor in such good condition to start with. And I love the 383's...such a reliable big block with potential for more power if so desired without breaking the bank by looking for a 440- with good ones getting harder and harder to find and now commanding top dollar in comparison.
Good stuff, Myles. The 383's are such awesome, awesome engines. Love 'em!!! Someone obviously needs a big round of applause for doing regular oil and filter changes. Can't wait to see you get 'er done and fire it up!!!!
Myles is so exceptionally blessed with that entire project, it's a legitimate 44K machine! Probably was somebody's project that never happened to completion, like so many out there, stashed in secret corners of spare buildings waiting for many years until somebody like you guys buys it from an estate.
Thanks for the video, Myles! That nut has probably been in there since assembly. It's looking good. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress. Cheers!
Your attention to detail is very good Myles, thank You for sharing the work on one of my favorite engines. Best Wishes to everyone at Cold War Motors for the Holiday Season !
For someone like me who’s only ever changed spark plugs and filters, this is absolutely fantastic to watch! And so was the Buick 364 rebuild. Myles is a master. Merry Christmas CWM!
Agreed. When my father was swapping out a Olds 350 Diesel for a earlier Olds 350/403*, the one engine had someone's key ring in the bottom of the sump... about 4 keys on some bead-ball chain. Engine didn't appear have been apart, so either someone dropped them in at assembly or purposely dropped them in the oil filler tube... which goes straight to the sump on an Olds. * - I mention 350/403 because there was some issue if it was a 350 or 403. Dad thought he bought a 350... but the car had a lot of power for a 350... and at the time, we weren't aware of the 403. Dad was a Chevy guy. Later research leads me to believe it was a 403... but Dad is no longer available to debate with. One day, I will drag the car out of the woods and check the casting.
Hey Myles, my '66 Satellite could make good use of another 110 cu in if you feel like throwing together another! Thanks for taking us along! Scott, looking forward to seeing the freshly coiffed Miss Frankers - see you Saturday!
Looking at those bearings, I would have a hard time believing that engine had over 100k on it. Very clean. Thanks for recording Myles and thanks for posting Scott.
What a clean machine, Myles! My parents had a '67 Chrysler Newport with the 383 and even in that big car it was spirited and I enjoyed driving it. Nice job!
Watching those rope seals getting cut reminded me of a vasectomy I got years ago. I was stretched out on white paper that covered the table, to keep things nice and clean. I was given a local anesthetic. I heard that same snipping sound. When I got up, there was a sweat ring in the outline of my body where I was lying. However, my seals were not soaked in oil but rather I soaked my brain in alcohol for 24 hrs. (Not continually for 24 hrs. but over the course of 3 evenings). I did not spin freely like the 383 crankshaft for over a week. Cheers from KCMO Merry Christmas.
Myles is going to have a killer driver! Watching him methodically go through that engine could almost make me believe, "Hey, maybe I could do that!" But I'm not deluded enough to believe it! 🔧
Looks cold...almost feel guilty for being out on the bike this AM.... Man, that seal cutter is one fine finger amputation tool. Well done Miles and thank you! Can't wait to see Frankers mess up her do!
I had not thought of that sort of thing but if you're going to go down that road, I would say it wasn't Dean as that seems like something like Ashley would do! Dean? Too good natured for that, a goofball. Ashley? Definitely a calculating schemer!
When Chrysler was the engineering company, the cranks were forged, the bearings were top shelf. My dispatcher sang dirges of what Chrysler had become and left for Honda in 1975. Here's to you Luther, where ever you are. Great find. Best to you all. Who made the cutters?
Mopar brother *Myles* In the House! The over-square design of Ma's 383 really was the special sauce for why it was such a good engine. For a big block, they revved happily as a result - and if any Mopar engine of the 60's had that trademark Exhaust note, it was the 383. As a kid, I fell asleep on family trips many a time to the tune of Pops' 383 in the family Monaco wagon as we went down the road - and I guarantee it's why I've spent the bulk of my 60+ years owning and loving Mopars ever since; that was the inception of my love of the marque. Looks like my Mopar brother has got ahold of a sweet one here for sure! - Ed on the Ridge
Dude Myles you scored with that engine. It looks almost like new inside. Definitely 45k miles. If it had almost 150k you’d be seeing some wear on the bearings and cylinders for sure.
Love the Monaco 🇲🇨. The 383, Myles and CWM. Had a friend with a 66 Newport, that thing is a beast. Have a great Christmas everyone. And don't forget to Stay dirty 👍👍👍
Great video Myles. Seeya after Christmas. All you CWM guys and gals have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year. I heard you Canadians might get a new PM soon. The sooner the better.😊
One trick I learned decades ago in regards to zip tie ends was to hit them briefly with a torch. The idea is for the plastic to melt a little bit thus losing the sharpness. Yes it takes a little bit of time and effort but it works if you're willing to do it.

Once again, thank you Myles for bringing us along. That is one sweet engine. 👍
Watching and listening to Myles work keeps my blood pressure within factory spec. See you all Sat... Cheers
Glad to hear Randahl--don't want you to blow a gasket!😉

Yes I agree Randahl ! ☺️

I agree, Randahl. I may just replay this video each day and especially before I visit my doctor.
If I could only find a video that lowers my cholesterol.
The 8-23-65 is the casting date for the block, and the 9-22 stamped in the deck surface is the engine assembly date.
Myles is the Bob Ross of engine work. So relaxing to watch.👍👍🇨🇦
Awesome, I just rebuilt a 383 and stuck it back in my 66 Monaco 500! I pulled the car out of the woods after it was left there to die 25 years ago!

Those cutters look like a good investment
Thank you Myles!
Just goes to show how long things will last when to maintain and don’t abuse. I’ve had a few 383’s and now have a 400. Great engines. Cheers
Just Stellar work Myles!
Good one
Thank You Myles! Thank You Scott!
Myles has a winner with that block that looks just run in after he cleaned it up! Hope the bodywork doesn't disappoint either!
Many thanks to Myles for filming his build.
I was going to watch a video about how to shoot down a drone and then saw a vid that has myles in it so that's a no brainer.
The drone isn't going anywhere...👽😆
Those drones are a false flag to make the tax payer demand a trillion dollars worth of drone defense lol
Thanks Myles! Bet that rod nut was 'misplaced' at the plant :-)
Yep, that was my thought too.
Myles sure does good work, his son-in-law will have no worries with that mill. I like those pliers too. 👍🏽
Cheers Myles Thank you for the video! It's really great the way you document things like this for us. Have a great few days see you on Saturday.
Thank you Myles, another great video. Cheers
Thanks Myles for taking us along. See ya all on Saturday. Cheers!
Thank you for sharing, Myles. That engine is looking good! Thank you Scott for posting this video. See you Saturday! Cheers!
Great stuff Myles. Thanks Scott and Myles
Going to be a fun project to follow Myles, glad the extra nut proved to be nothing. Probably been bouncing around in the pan for the last 30 yrs!😎
Thanks Myles.
Happy Thursday!
Thanks for sharing Myles. Looking forward to seeing more. Cheers ❤️😎✌️👍
Thanks Scott & Myles for the video.

383 looks great, Myles. Nice project.
Looking good Miles👍🇺🇸
Myles you’re doing a great job !! Merry Christmas 🎄🎅🏻🍻

383 squad is back!
Myles takes a very systematic approach to his work! Great video and yes the Chrysler 383 is a favorite of mine also!
Good stuff, Myles. The 383's are such awesome, awesome engines. Love 'em!!! Someone obviously needs a big round of applause for doing regular oil and filter changes. Can't wait to see you get 'er done and fire it up!!!!
Proper maintenance and the high probability that they weren't taking it on quarter mile trips regularly if ever...
Always appreciate myles bringing us along for his adventures. Dude definitely knows how to build a good sounding mopar.
absolutely some of the best on youtube yet again from coldwar motors!
Myles is so exceptionally blessed with that entire project, it's a legitimate 44K machine! That has to be the cleanest nearly 60 year old 383 I've ever seen. You can tell Myles is not new to these engines. Another great Thursday short.
Awesome job Myles your engine looks awesome thank you for the video
Scott, thanks for having Myles' video shown to us. He is such a GREAT MECHANIC as well such a nice Gentleman!
Happy Holidays to all! Rich
Miles is doing a great job by the looks, can't wait, thanks for sharing, all the best to yous and your loved ones
Your attention to detail is very good Myles, thank You for sharing the work on one of my favorite engines.
Best Wishes to everyone at Cold War Motors for the Holiday Season !
Great progress, crank and cylinders look fantastic.
Enjoyed watching Myles' calm and considered work style. Nice and relaxing. Thanks for making this content available. Mart in England.
For someone like me who’s only ever changed spark plugs and filters, this is absolutely fantastic to watch! And so was the Buick 364 rebuild. Myles is a master.
Merry Christmas CWM!
Myles, Very nice 383! Merry Christmas to All!
Myles is awesome.
Im thinking the rod nut was dropped in assembly and not found. Then it fell in the pan and sat there. Nice clean engine.
Agreed.

Gotta love a 383 👍🏻. That a beautiful Mopar 2 door car love the body style 👌🇦🇺✌️.
Good stuff, Thanks Myles.
Yay! midweek CWM, thanks.
Very interesting video
Thanks Myles! Very through inspection I must say
Low mileage for sure
Hey Myles, my '66 Satellite could make good use of another 110 cu in if you feel like throwing together another! Thanks for taking us along! Scott, looking forward to seeing the freshly coiffed Miss Frankers - see you Saturday!
Good morning from South Wales, UK.
Nice job Myles !
one date is a casting date, the other is a production date
I'm not a Mopar guy so I'm not familiar with them at all but I was thinking they were both casting dates?
Looking at those bearings, I would have a hard time believing that engine had over 100k on it. Very clean. Thanks for recording Myles and thanks for posting Scott.
Great work as always Myles, and what a sweet engine!
What a clean machine, Myles! My parents had a '67 Chrysler Newport with the 383 and even in that big car it was spirited and I enjoyed driving it. Nice job!

* Great story ! Well told ! Heard you shouldn't Break Dance after one of those either !!! 👊🤣👍
Cheers Miles
Great video Myles, thank you.
it's Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas. magnifique
Nice job Miles. Thanks for sharing your work.
Myles is going to have a killer driver!

Great Tutorial
Yay it's time for the show!
Thanks Myles! That engine is looking good, low mileage no doubt. Looking forward to future updates. Cheers! 😎👍🏎🏁🏁
Howdy from Wv USA
Looks good Myles. Cheers from here.
...that old Mopar 383 is in phenomenal shape....good job, Myles!...and I enjoyed the dramatic Myles tear down fast motion music, Scott....
Rust Rules!😊
Thank you, Myles! That engine is in spectacular condition! It almost looks like it was built/rebuilt not too long ago!
Bonus point 🎉
Looks cold...almost feel guilty for being out on the bike this AM.... Man, that seal cutter is one fine finger amputation tool. Well done Miles and thank you!
Can't wait to see Frankers mess up her do!
It was likely close to -30°c when this was filmed
I bet Dean put the extra bolt in the pan as a practical joke! Good job Myles!
I had not thought of that sort of thing but if you're going to go down that road, I would say it wasn't Dean as that seems like something like Ashley would do! Dean? Too good natured for that, a goofball. Ashley? Definitely a calculating schemer!

Gotta love a 383.That such a nice body style 2 door Mopar . 👌🇦🇺✌️.
The Redline Rebuid aesthetic is great - FF engine disassembly/reassembly is good fun.
Wow is that bottom end in great shape. Great news for Kyle.

I'm jealous. My 383 needed a sleeve, as one piston was seized through sitting. Free nuts is how we get boxes of nuts and bolts. nz.
Los of good news on that one - and an extra rod cap nut for the next build as a bonus!
I doesn't appear that the engine has been clocked. She looks great. Thanks.
CWM!
I like the flush cuts for the rope seal. I have a pair dedicated to zip ties as I hate getting cut by a sharp tail.
One trick I learned decades ago in regards to zip tie ends was to hit them briefly with a torch. The idea is for the plastic to melt a little bit thus losing the sharpness. Yes it takes a little bit of time and effort but it works if you're willing to do it.
Ahh, the rope seal.... Did that, then did that again. Did not leak after the second attempt.
🇺🇸👍 383s are great motors !!!
Nice Myles, but do change freeze plugs and clean out the waterjackets.
Miles, if you happen to think of it, in the next episode please mention what you did about ring gaps?
383 are usually not this easy and clean. Exceptional car was loved and maintained
Ive been waiting patiently ❤ yes 👌 bout time 👍
