In her photos I see my childhood, I am brought to tears, Oh how time take the things we love away so very fast.

I need southern folks in my life, please. I'm from Amsterdam and Dutch city people are just not working for me. I'm a cityboy myself but I LONG for the southern countryside of the US. I have never even been there.. just seen it through pictures like Mann's, Egglestons, Christenberry.. you name it. I mire in the willow of southern memory lol. Such honest and melancholic folk. I listen to bluegrass and it almost has no meaning listening to it walking through my city. The way the interviewer and Mrs. Mann relate to eachothers southerness is something I envy. Beautiful and honest without saying too much. Alright y'all I'm done. Shoutouts from Amsterdam though.

Sally Mann is one of the photographers I look up to the most in my work. I am not trying to copy her, but a lot of my photography work is centered around what she does (I can not even come close to the level she has gained) but I work and work to be as good. (I am not about the nudity, however I do not have an issue with it, but I do not have it in my work) I just love the feel to her images, the lighting, the black and white, everything about the composition is amazing.
I really love black and white so that is what I do most of my photos in. Such an amazing artist.

As much as I love the work with her children. Mostly i think because as a dad I remember all those moments she has captured on film. I really like her work with the southern landscapes on wet plate even better. They remind me of being child and exploring the forest and how our imaginations would create entire worlds to live in.

I got the chance to see her actual prints in a museum exhibit one time. The real prints are far times better than digital scans of them. They don’t even do justice

I have a copy of Immediate Family which I bought more than 20 years ago. None of the images it contains are offensive or outrageous to me. They show life as it was for Sally Mann's family when her children were young. Emmett and the White Boy is one of my favourites, as is He is very sick. There are some images which fill me with nostalgia, even though I wasn't there when they were made. It is an interesting collection of images and memories of real childhood where innocence exists alongside real life.

A woman so disturbed to no end is what is praised as talent in our society. What she did to her babies should land her in a place where there is no daylight til end times. But noooo, we are so cultured and advanced we praise her. There is no mother I know, who would take such disturbing pictures to her babies and sell it as "art.' It is just all so evil.

Im surprised she wasn’t jailed for the inappropriate pictures of her kids. Im also surprised that as adults the kids were fine that their mother took those pics of them.

@@hamzahassan7730 you are right i reported this guy named chris on etsy for selling photos of the children [females] naked for 899 ... they are obviously children and its exploitation ... not to mention of the girls who was taking a photo with her boyfriend didnt want to reach in close to hug him.. come to find out he was abusing her. DISGUSTING

@secretshadow1262 Personally I don’t think parents should be posting full nudity pictures of their children publicly, even if its not meant to be sexual. They are not respecting the privacy of their children

@secretshadow1262 Media involving nude children that shows the whole body. You can take such picture and keep it only as a family picture but then when your publishing it for everyone to see, thats what disturbs me. Especially considering there are monsters out there who are interested in these sorts of pictures.

I just remembered that when I was about five years old my dad took me to the barber shop for a haircut and the barber noticed that I had a a bump on the back of my neck. Didn't notice it until he pointed it out, except it itched a little. I think it was an inch in diameter with a good lump . It eventually went away so it may have been a spider bite or some kind of irritation. When it comes to some of the appearance of the pictures, you have to be careful about how you read into them. Sally's the master of challenging the viewers initial take on what a viewer sees in the picture. Artists of various genres do that.

Different photographic processes such as orthochromatic or wet plate can have different effects on skin tones and eye color due to the wavelengths of light they're sensitive to. She also could have selectively darkened areas of the images, eyes included, in the darkroom in order to achieve a moodier effect. Either that or you're just seeing things.

she means taking photos and creating the art. if you seen how detailed her prints are in person you would understand. you can see right down to the blade of grass as you see it, but digital doesnt show it. its not as high definition. taking baths in creeks are normal where im from like her family. we used to all swim and take baths in creeks for generations, but most of the world hasnt had that luxury of being able to do that. being dirt poor almost can have its pros-not many will be able to experience that.
